First Brodie Croyle and now Damon Huard is gone for the rest of the 2008 season, supposedly with an injured hand. That leaves the Kansas City Chiefs with Tyler "Bones" Thigpen, just-signed former Jaguar Quinn Gray and Ingle Martin. Thigpen will start, with Martin as the backup and Gray as the #3 QB.
Here's the only link I can find to this online, which is from The Fort Mill Times. I have confirmed this elsewhere though.
Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson will be deactivated for the second week in a row and quarterbacks Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard were placed on injured reserved on Wednesday.
What a week for the Chiefs. The loss of Huard is minimal and frankly the guy probably is glad to be out for the rest of the season. Huard to IR doesn't change much. The Chiefs are still going to pursue other avenues to find their quarterback of the future because that player is not currently on the roster.
NFL.com is also reporting that Larry Johnson will not play this Sunday. Anyone else ready to move on? He's become Terrell Owens without the production.
H/T to Eric in the FanPosts.

wow
what a year for the chiefs.
nfamous209 - October 22, 2008
If He's Glad To Be Out For The Season
I don’t blame him in the slightest. It’s a crap offense run by a crap coach who constantly ran down Huard’s ability to play despite the fact he was the most productive QB they’ve had the last two years.
I hope Huard ends up on a real football team next season and I wish him nothing but good luck with his career. He was a class act while he was here.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
He'll be a backup
…probably for Miami or Arizona.
THE_TRUTH - October 22, 2008
He was a class act
I’ll agree with that. His body language indicated he was pretty fed up with football though.
Chris Thorman - October 22, 2008
I Don't Think He Was Fed Up With Football
As much as he was fed up playing for Herm. Seriously, all Herm ever did was run him down. How much respect would you have playing for a coach who runs an offense this inept who treats you like you’re the problem?
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
Yeah...
…that was sooooo obvious. I wonder if there’s any BS to the degree he’s been hurt? I’m thinking any sane person wouldn’t want to make their chances next year worse (by having a career ending injury) by playing on that offense. Can you say “Daunte”?
THE_TRUTH - October 22, 2008
Judging By The Wrap On His Hand Last Sunday
I’d say that it was probably more than a thumb sprain. Probably broken or some torn ligaments.
Rotoworld and the Star aren’t reporting this yet…wonder if you guys scooped them? :)
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
Or
…to quote Kid Rock….maybe he was “giving the next generation a big F*&^% You”
I’m sitting out and bide my time Herm. You didn’t want me. Now you can’t have me at all.
OK, I know, I’m reaching :)
THE_TRUTH - October 22, 2008
If Chris put it up
Then it’s been confirmed.
Joel Thorman - October 22, 2008
yeah
he had no life left him. I mean, it’s not like the guy ever had the most competitive fire.
Definitely a professional. Good luck, Damon!
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
Seriously though
…when had Herm EVER voiced confidence in him. I always got the feeling he was “disappointed” in having to put him in. Like a red headed step child.
THE_TRUTH - October 22, 2008
It's hard to voice confidence
in a 35 year old quarterback that can’t run, throw, or make plays. Still better than Bones, but that’s probably why Herm doubted him. Huard had one good season in 2006 and we overestimated his value based off of his peak year.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
He Was Still The Best QB On The Roster
And we kept benching him for a rookie who couldn’t outperform him or stay healthy and a guy who has no business suiting up at QB in the NFL. We didn’t overrate him at all…we overrated every other piece of crap that Herm and Carl brought in to play QB by assuming they were somehow better than Huard.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
A guy that couldn't stay healthy.
Right, because Damon is definitely the pinnacle of toughnes.. Wait! That’s him next to brodie!
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
and Gray will be sitting there too
in say……..3 weeks ? I’ll bet he makes it through one maybe two games – mobile or not !! No Q.B. is going to survive for long until our pass protection improves.
HankerChief - October 22, 2008
All due respect...
But Damon’s shot to “be the guy” was in Miami after Marino, and they screwed him, much like we screwed Rich Gannon. Seems like we’re both paying for it now. We were his second tour of duty as an aging backup, his superbowl days were well behind him when we got him.
Official Arrowhead Pride Parade - October 22, 2008
Of course he was disapointed
because it meant that his guy Croyle was hurt. Before Huard’s move to the I.R., the sense I got from Herm when listening to his press conf. was that he didn’t want to have to use Thigpen this weekend.
Good luck to Huard !!
HankerChief - October 22, 2008
I 100% agree
Damon Huard was a great player and a top notch backup. I liked his play and his smarts he just didnt have the right abilities behind this line.
CBaller13 - October 22, 2008
Probably
the end of Huard’s career.

All Aboard the Thigpen Train, One Last Time!
We’ve got one week until Gray’s up to speed or Ingle gets put in.
Let’s all enjoy the painful hilarity of the Bones era while we can, shall we? There’s no point in being mad, it wouldn’t matter even if he could throw!
Come on the train… and ride it (choo choo!).. come on the train… and ride it (woo-woo!)…
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
You think he'll survive that long?

THE_TRUTH - October 22, 2008
We'll See How Gray Does
But if we’ve got to play Thigpen in that game, we’re fucked. Fitzpatrick isn’t good, but Bones is unarguably the worst starting quarterback in the NFL right now.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
I retract
my statement about Gray not playing this season. I can do that right?? lol
ChiefsDude - October 22, 2008
Aw come now
you supported Damon, he got hurt, as 35 year olds do, it’s time to support Bones. You’re out of options till next week. Give the kid a week of the benefit of the doubt. It’ll do your black heart good.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
Alright
Well, Tyler is top dog now. Maybe that’ll affect the way he plays. Before, he was just filling in, knowing he was going to have to give the job back at some point. Now, the job’s his to lose. Let’s hope he doesn’t fall victim to the Herm Edwards curse.
ChiefsDude - October 22, 2008
Oh no
He’ll be terrible. Don’t have any expectations for the kid. EXPECT him to go 10 of 28 for 76 yards and 4 INTs. But have some fun with it! We’re not winning anyway, we know that.
But hey, at least he did throw that pass to Bowe last week and scrambled for 60.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
Why
Seriously…there are five or six quarterbacks on that free agent list who could do a better job than Thigpen if they were plucked off the street today and plopped into the game on Sunday. I’m not going to support Thigpen because he’s terrible. He’s a fraud. He’s not an NFL QB, he’s just another mistake by Herm and Carl that they refuse to own up to. And I’m not going to pretend that it’s otherwise just because there are no other options.
Like I said, I’ve got nothing personal against Thigpen…he seems like a nice enough guy who does the best he can. But he’s got no business being on the Chiefs’ roster.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
Surprise surprise
Crawford refuses to take any option that results in anything positive. Shocker.
Look, you can’t just plunk down an NFL quarterback. You just can’t. Ask anyone. You have to learn the offense for at least a week. Next week, sure! Throw him in. I understand what you’re saying about anyone doing better than Thigpen, sure, that might be right. But he won’t even know where the handoffs go. He won’t know the plays. There’s no upside to bitching about this. There’s upside to bitching about Carl and Herm like you do 24-7. There’s no upside to bitching about this kid. It’s just hate on your part since the guy you liked isn’t any more healthy than Croyle.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
No Shit, Matt?
Exactly how positive should I be about our team being the worst in the NFL? Seriously…how up should I be on Herm Edwards and Carl Peterson for dropping this steaming pile on us? By all means…point out the positives here that I should be cheery about.
I call them exactly as I see them and what I see with the Chiefs is the worst team in franchise history that is a direct result of Herm and Carl’s incompetence. Fuck ‘em if they don’t like the criticism for it…they haven’t done anything to merit a positive response.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
False.
We’re not the worst.
We’re equally bad with Denver (they’re horrible, too). And, we’re both better than Detroit and Cincinatti.
JacinB - October 22, 2008
Then stop being a fan!
YOu obviously think nothing positive about any member of this team, and hey, I can’t blame you! So why come here? Sit it out until they make some decisions you can support?
We’re at the bottom here. This is the shit. And you’re right, it’s probably Carl’s fault. And you’re right, we should have another quarterback. But who cares? It’s football! Let’s at least get some enjoyment of rooting for our team out of it.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
I'm Still A Chiefs Fan
I’m just not a Carl or Herm fan…and I’ll continue to beat that dead horse about how they should be fired until they finally are.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
But we're not talking about that.
We’re talking about the team. We’re talking about the only quarterback who’s actually practiced with the offense, three days out of gameday. Worse quarterback? Absolutely! If he doesn’t magically get better this week (which we all know he won’t), should Gray start? Absolutely! But let’s make the best of what we’ve got as fans, even if we disagree with everything in the front office.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
hey

Or a Thigpen fan.
And you think most of the Offensive and Defensive players suck.
JacinB - October 22, 2008
Agree
Bones is a waist. Lets just put Gray right on the field
GHOST OF DT - October 22, 2008
No seriously.
He won’t even know the plays. It won’t just be Tyler throwing to the other guys. It’ll be mass chaos. We won’t even get plays off.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
Hey
kid wracked up 63 yards rushing. He can’t throw worth a damn but he’s better than any of our other QBs at getting away from pressure. He can’t do anything with it, which is more important, but he is quite the nimble little bugger.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
Which Is Great
Until the other teams finally KO him when he’s coming out of the pocket and we’re hoping that Richard Bartel might be available.
There’s a reason that QBs with questionable passing skills who scramble aren’t highly sought after in the NFL. They tend to get hurt.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
He has actually
shown some poise in terms of hits. No passing poise,I understand. But he slides way before he can get hammered and he’s not trying to do too much on scrambles. He just picks up yards and then slides.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
Thiggy runs like a crappy Sage Rosenfels on a worse team
Official Arrowhead Pride Parade - October 22, 2008
No helicopters.
Big difference. Kid had a shot at a first down last week, knew he was going to get creamed, and slid.
Look, I know he sucks, and we all know he’s going to do terribly. But unlike the Carl Peterson/Herm Edwards or Huard v. Croyle debates, we don’t have an option. Gray simply hasn’t been in camp long enough to even play, and Martin… I have no idea about Martin, but we’ve got no reason to suspect he’ll be any better. So let’s have some fun with the kid, hey? We need some fun around here after the last two weeks. We’re not even supporting something wrong, because there’s no choice involved here. Gray will probably be the starter in a week and that’ll be fun then, too. But for right now, we have a kid who’s thrown some touchdowns (a lot more interceptions, I know), can run a little bit, and at least came in last week and tried, even if the Titans had let up.
Let yourselves have some fun.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
with you !
HankerChief - October 22, 2008
Fun????
Fun. Really? Do you consider prison rape with rusty shanks fun? Do you know what fun means? Did you ever consider that Tyler Thigpen, god love his bone humping bullsh*t university absogodamhorrible performance thusfar, might be a known quantity adding up to opposite of FUN???
UCrawford’s a d*ck sure, when it comes to a lot of things, but Brodie screwed us, screwed us royally, and so did herm be screwing brodie, you can’t get away with 10 step drops in the NFL and you sure as sh*t can’t do it with absolutely no god"DARN" o-line, man is right, by foresight or dumb luck grant him that!
No, Thigpen will not be fun, unless you consider an ass pummeling in levenworth fun, unless your a fan or snuff films instead of game films. FUN! How is a proven failure more fun than a QB roulette wheel????
It’s not.
Ingle Martin now! We have no reason to trust anyone in the organization, THERE IS NO DE-VEL-OP-MENT, is blind man’s bluff with steroid infused crazy men! Gimme a nutty meathead with no idea what he’s doing over young dumb and full of no talent. At least an Ingle Martin ass whooping crosses two losers off the list instead of double xing out one.
IT’S THE FIELD GOAL LAST WEEK SON!!! WE’VE BEEN HAD!!! HOW DO CHIEFS FANS NOT GET THIS NOW, TYLER IS AN “INSTITUTIONAL MOVE” PRETENDING LIKE WE STILL MIGHT WORK OUT. HORSESH*T. THIS IS ALL COVER MY ASS COACHING BS, HERM SHOULD BE A MAN, ADMIT THERE’S A SERIOUS AMOUNT OF SH*T IN THIS BED AND CUT LOOSE.
YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME, OR AT LEAST TO PROVE YOUR NOT A BUNCH OF BALL-LESS LOSERS TRYING TO SAVE THEIR JOBS WITH SH*TTY FIELD GOAL DOUBLE DIGIT LOSSES!
Official Arrowhead Pride Parade - October 23, 2008
PARADE-CAPSLOCK DAY WAS YESTERDAY
The thing is, we keep hoping for this magical white knight to save us. “Oh, Brodie has a better arm. He’ll save us.”
“Oh, no, Damon Huard completes it more than 50% of the time! That’s all that matters!”
“We need Daunte Culpepper!”
There is no savior people. There is no hope.
I’m all for Ingle Martin coming in after Bones throws his second pick of the day on Sunday, probably in the 2nd quarter. But he’s starting now, and we can either just take this and bitch about like we’re bitching about EVERYTHING (and don’t get me wrong, we’re right to bitch), or we can appreciate the insanity of this situation and start making completely unrealistic optimistic predictions.
We’re going to be wrong and we know it! We’re going to pound-me-in-the-ass prison regardless, so why not take this lighthearted. At least Bones is an interesting complete failure. I’m tired of being angry, petulant, and outraged for just this week. Next week we can demand Gray starts. But I see no value in just yelling about something that doesn’t matter anyway because our team sucks and our o-line is a sieve.
Ridiculous Matt - October 23, 2008
Seriously
Who fucking cares about his “poise”? He can’t hit his throws with any consistency and that’s the most important quality for an NFL QB. He’s crap.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
Look on the bright side
….
….
….
I got nothin.
ChiefsDude - October 22, 2008
Yes, but he's YOUR crap!
We’re fans! If you’re fed up with the whole team, that’s fine! I understand completely! But if you want to stay a fan and watch this season, let’s at least have some fun with the few things that can’t be changed at this point for the better.
Sure, he can’t throw and he sucks! He’s probably going to throw four picks on Sunday. Who cares? Let’s have some fun with it!
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
He's Not MY Anything
He’s a QB who performs below replacement level. He’s worse than guys who are available now. He’s worse than Gradkowski (who isn’t good). He’s probably worse than Ingle Martin. He can’t run an offense, he can’t complete throws, he can’t help this team win, and he’s not part of this team’s future. It is utterly pointless for the Chiefs to put him out there or to keep him on this roster.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
Wait a tick.
You said a few weeks ago that anyone that lines up for the Chiefs you root for. You said you didn’t like the direction of management or the coaching, but on Sundays, you at least rooted for the guys. Now he’s not yours, just because he’s not your special 35 year old duck cannon?
Sure, he’s worse than guys that are out there now. I think you’re right! But we have to get those guys time. Look, we’re going to lose anyway. We might as well lose with someone with energy who we can laugh at.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
UC
woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.
ChiefsDude - October 22, 2008
Hey
I can understand being disgusted and frustrated. I’m that way with LJ. But at least with Tyler, I see a kid who genuinely looks like he wanted to play last week. Which is more than a lot of the guys did.
I’d just rather have someone to root for than just constantly talk about how anything that happens is bad and there’s not hing good ever that could possibly happen ever ever ever.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
Like I Said
Nothing personal against Thigpen. But he’s not an NFL QB. He’s a kid with a strong arm who can run a little bit. And continuing to have him play significant minutes for this team is a travesty. Most of the scrub free agents available right now are better suited to lead this team than he is.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
I agree!
so next week when Quinn’s had a week to practice, let’s put him in. You can start the calls for Quinn as early as the second quarter of the game if you want. But it’s not really realistic for Gray to learn the offense in three days. He’s just got to have time to study the playbook.
Again, let’s just lighten up and have some fun with it since it’s not the kid’s fault he sucks. It’s Carl’s.
And your answer to everything is sitting next to Brodie for the exact same reason you doubted Brodie. So to me, that says there are no answers here.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
Learning the Playbook
How tough is it to learn how to get sacked on every drive. Hell, I could do that without bothering to read the playbook.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
Okay, that's a joke. And a funny one.
But you’re a smart guy. I know you know that you need a week to learn the playbook. Martin can probably come in if/when Tyler throws his first two picks. Wait till the second quarter, then you can say “I tried to support him, but he’s the worst quarterback to ever put on a uniform, there has never been anything worse than him ever, I want him out and it’s all Carl’s fault.” ANd that will feel GREAT, UC! Come on, try it!
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
His arm's not that strong
At least I haven’t seen any deep passes actually caught by our team,
Official Arrowhead Pride Parade - October 23, 2008
His Arm's Strong
His accuracy is just for shit.
UCrawford - October 23, 2008
Indeed
Parade, you see what you want to see. There is no spoon, friend. There is only Bones. He’s actually got a lot of velocity on his passes, which we need since he’s going to be have to throw it inside three seconds anyway.
Ridiculous Matt - October 23, 2008
If I Were Doing The Madden Ratings For Thigpen
I think I’d put his throwing power somewhere in the mid 90s with a throwing accuracy between 30 and 20.
Actually, make that between 20 and 10. I just wish that Madden had enough crowd realism that wild throws could peg fans.
UCrawford - October 23, 2008
I'm Just Irritable
About the prospect of having Tyler Thigpen QB this team for the rest of the season. It’s unacceptable. The Chiefs should never have reached this point…not even in a rebuilding year.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
Absolutely agree
we should definitely have a better backup than Tyler. We should. We should have signed Simms when we had the chance or drafted a QB last year.
But we didn’t. And we can blame front office for that. Definitely a fuck up.
But Tyler’s going to start, and that’s what we got. So let’s have some jokes, joke like he’s going to tear it up, and enjoy the ridiculousness. If you can’t laugh at this, you can’t laugh at anything.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
I Laugh During The Games All The Time
Mainly because I’ve finally reached a point where I want them to lose every single game this year in a blowout because I sincerely believe it’s the only way that Clark Hunt will ever fire Herm and Carl. And I hate that I’m in the position where I’m rooting for the team I’ve supported for 20 years to lose badly every week…I honestly hate it.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
You seem to love talking about it.
But again, come on. Even if Gray was a better quarterback, he’s not going to be able to make plays. Our O-line isn’t going to let anyone do anything on offense, and if you double Bowe, you’ve essentially limited us completely.
It’s over. Let’s have some fun while we continue the war chants against Peterson and Herm.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
Just Let Me Know
When you guys decide to storm Arrowhead with the pitchforks and torches…I’ll drive up to help you burn Carl and Herm in effigy.
Hmmmm…maybe burning Carl and Herm in effigy wouldn’t be a bad idea. The KC Star would certainly take notice.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
I mean, come on
you spend so much time devoting hour to tomes on how Carl sucks and is the cause of cancer and has never done anything worthwhile in his life. Don’t you want a one week break just to root for a kid who NO ONE BELIEVES IN? Just for fun?
Sure, he’ll fail. But then we can laugh at him. It’s fine! Enjoy it! Think of it this way. Every failure by Tyler leads us that much closer to forcing them to find a solution at quarterback instead of stop gaps and glass figurines. Think of it that way.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
Problem Is
As long as Carl’s picking the QB, we’ll never go with anything but stopgaps and glass figurines. Those are the only things he has any success with.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
Okay, again, we're offtrack.
And Carl did bring in Joe Montana and Trent Green. So we’re not exactly 0 fer the century. But regardless. We’re just talking about the next four days. Thats’ it.

can out-throw Damon Huard. True story. If we brought Scott Bakula in, I’d be intrigued.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
Scott Bakula?
Never heard of him.
Best quarterback I’ve ever seen was Paul Blake for the Texas State University Fightin’ Armadillos.
Joel Thorman - October 22, 2008
Bakula
Is less mobile than Huard so he’d be a poor selection. I saw him run in one episode of “Star Trek: Enterprise”. :)

No, we’re talking about Paul Blake.

UCrawford - October 22, 2008
Ok
Our top 2 QBs got taken out for the season in the same game. Our defense doesn’t understand the scheme they’re playing in. Our offensive line doesn’t have the talent required to be successful. I’m sure we’ll all look back on this day and laugh… a long time from now… but this pretty much just sucks all around. I hope Tyler doesn’t get killed. Hell, why don’t we just start snapping to LJ??? After this week, of course.
ChiefsDude - October 22, 2008
To Be Clear
I hope Thigpen doesn’t get killed this week either. I don’t wish harm on him, I just don’t want him playing for us.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
Come on.
You’d be a little happy, wouldn’t you? Little bit? Or would it be better so you could still talk about how much he sucks?
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
I'm Happy About Poking Fun At His Suckitude
When there’s little to no chance that I’ll have to watch it every game for the rest of the year. Right now, it’s not really that funny because there’s probably a 50-50 chance he’s our QB.
Incompetence on this scale is really only funny in hindsight.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
Or

UCrawford - October 22, 2008
I think it's HILARIOUS.
A guy who threw four picks in a game and overthrew tony by about ten feet last week is OUR STARTING QUARTERBACK.
This is amazing. Does it suck? Absolutely. But who cares? We can’t change it! Next week we can rail agianst the decision to start Thigpen provided he plays like we all know he’s going to. But right now, let’s just root for the little bastard to have the game where he gets it.

The first time he is disgusted? He wasnt disgusted when he waved a gun, or (allegedly) slapped a woman? What a load….

Nah.
Back then he still thought he was a pretty good guy.
Now, he still thinks he’s a pretty good guy, but his lawyer told him that if he wrote something up that made it look like he felt bad about it, he could probably get the penalty reduced.

It’s entirely possible that his lawyer wrote it up for him.

As a law student
It is beyond possible that his lawyer wrote it for him. His lawyer did write it for him. If you were his lawyer, would you trust him to come up with that statement on his own?

L.J. as Kansas City's T.O.
I read something on FoxSports yesterday that L.J. is quickly becoming a locker room cancer and, at one point over the previous weeks, when he was told to come out so that they could put in a play that featured Jamaal Charles, refused to come out of the game.
He supposedly told the coaches that, if they put Charles on the field, to plan on getting an illegal procedure penalty for having 12 men on the field because he wasn’t sitting.

THIS IS WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!
Let’s start a new campaign.
Instead of wishing for our quarterback to make plays, let’s root for him not to get killed! Like gladiators against the lions!

Official Arrowhead Pride Parade - October 23, 2008
Let's put it this way.
What’s the baseline we’re hoping for on Sunday from Tyler?
I’d say that 15 of 35 for 140 yards and 1 TD, 2INTs is a pretty good day. Especially if he gets some rushing yardage.
What’s more important to you guys, completion percentage or turnovers? What if he throws 2 picks, but completes 70% of his passes? What if he throws 2 picks, completes 40% of his passes, but throws 3TDs, including a long one to Bowe?
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008

Positives
Thigpen has had his moments. They’re overshadowed by all the mistakes he’s made, but when he’s comfortable, he can throw accurately. He can scramble and he’s gutsy mofo, I’ll give him that. He’s not afraid to bang it up with the LBs. He has two really great receivers to throw to.
The offensive line will play hard out of guilt this weekend. They will play to save Tyler Thigpen’s livelihood. They will play harder than ever because losing 3 QBs in 2 games is beyond inexcusable.
Our RBs will benefit from this newfound energy from the O-Line.
I’m full of shit.

Bridled optimism that we fully understand is false is our only recourse here. The only other option is to stop watching, and we don’t want to do that.
So let’s talk about how Tyler’s going to turn it around and Charles is going to sieze this opportunity and Chan is going to sneak some fade routes and screens past Herm and we’re actually going to put some points on the board. We won’t be surprised when it doesn’t happen, but we can at least have fun talking and thinking about it.
Imagine it. The kid comes out of nowhere after the worst performance in Chiefs’ history (outside of last week), and actually puts together a good game! He finds Bowe on a deep route! Touchdown! KAN-SAS-CITY! He overthrows Tony, but Tony tells him to calm down and just run the offense. On the next play, he finds Tony wide open over the middle for a first down!
Why the hell not? Our only other options are talking about our incompetent front office and our woman-beating running back who’s betting paid millions of dollars not to play! Why not have some fun?
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
This is how low we have sunk.
The news came out almost an hour ago, quarterback on IR and deactivating starting running back. Neither ESPN nor SI has posted these stories.

a conversation
Doctor: Coach. I’ve got bad news. We’re going to have to shut Damon down.
Herm: What? Thank God. He didn’t “get” my system anyway. I am surprised though. Young feller like that.
Doctor: …. Young? Coach, he’s 35.
Herm: Is that old?
Doctor: Coach, the man was on Soul Train. He owns bell-bottoms. That Seventies Show was about him!
Herm: I don’t understand what you’re saying.
Doctor: And I mean, it’s not like he wasn’t a health risk. He’s had four significant injuries in the last four years. He’s always banged up. It happens to guys at that age with our o-line.
Herm: But those fellers at Arrowhead Pride said he was our best option!
Doctor: Well, he was. In 2002! It’s been six year, Coach.. … Coach, do you understand the concept of linear time?
Herm: No, but I understand that smashmouth football is all that’s going to help us against those tough teams like the Bears and that pesky Superbowl Shuffle!
Doctor: Coach… it’s no longer that time period. Offenses have moved on. Are you aware we’re on a linear time scale?
Herm: … What’s that? Oh, nevermind Doc, I’ve got to get ready for the game. You play to win it, you know. Hey, how’s Damon doing, anyway?
Doctor: ….Christ.
Ridiculous Matt - October 22, 2008
Hey this is where
Our playoff/ superbowl run begins! Thigpen is going to have a pro-bowl second half of the season! TG will be the superbowl MVP, nah it will be a split with Bones! Herm on the sidelines screaming I told you the r2-p2 would work, the players just had to make plays! WOOT!
Eric Allen - October 22, 2008
Where do you get this optimism from?
I mean, if my team were in the position yours is in right now, I think I would be bitter and drinking heavily. Actually I know so – 2 years ago my team started 0-5 and wasn’t in quite as bad the shape your team is in right now, and I was bitter and drinking heavily then, too.
On the other hand, look on the bright side: 2 years ago my team started 0-5 and finished 8-8! 8-7 in our final game, and if we’d won, we would have made the playoffs!
I don’t really know where I’m going with all of this, I just wanted to express my sympathies for your team, and hope not to get killed for being a fan of the guys who just put 2 of your QBs on IR.

I Think Huard Was Pretty Damaged Even Before That Game
He was playing like he was injured in his previous start as well. The commentators noted it a couple of times, that he moved like he had a serious injury. I think whatever the Titans did to him just removed the option of keeping him active.
UCrawford - October 22, 2008
We've been drinking
we just come up for air to bitch about Peterson and Edwards then go back in the tank. I’m pulling for Tyler Thigpen, I must be drunk.

Serious Questions
How many snaps can we legitimately look at any young (Rookie or 2nd year) QB to develop and learn to be a productive QB?
Does the number of games matter if the above QB has a weak O-Line that doesn’t give him a true opportunity to stand in the pocket and make decisions?
How many snaps with mistakes, and how many snaps with decent outcomes that directly relate to the QBs performance are the optimal test to decide if the guy is trash or has potential?
It seems to me that too many fans have thrown Thigpen under the bus, before he has had the “normal” opportunities that he would get on a “normal” team to perform. I’m happy he will be given another chance, especially against the Jets, instead of one of the best teams in the league this season (Titans). I know he had a crappy game against the Falcons, but I’d rather watch him progress and give him the chance he deserves, considering the protection he has, the receivers, and the team he is going against. He is still just a cherry. I’m hoping he gets better every game, but he needs the chances.
TXChiefan - October 22, 2008
I couldn't agree more.
Thigpen has been labeled as “not an NFL QB” after a total of what, 8 quarters of play? less? a little premature. That’s just a fact. Lots of QBs start out really crappy, and have to develop. There are a lot of guys that have written off Thigpen way too early.
Do I expect him to have a great game? No. Do I think there’s the possibility…..um……baaaaaaarely. Do I think he might improve over the next couple games (assuming he continues to start, but I’m assuming he’ll be replaced by Gray about a week before Gray is ready)? yes.
He needs a bit more time. Judging him w/ any sort of absolute is ridiculous, he just plain hasn’t had enough time on the field, and he also is playing for a crappy team that can’t run and can’t protect the passer, and only has 2 legit receiving threats (which equates to about .5 receiving threats when there is no running game).
thehulk - October 22, 2008
I agree with that
Tyler does need a chance to show that he can play at the NFL level. Assuming a good performance by the o-line, he could have a decent game, especially against the Jets. Unfortunately he will most likely not have a lot of time in the pocket to throw, and his receivers will be heavily covered, since with LJ out, I cannot imagine they will respect our run attack. I also expect them, given our porous line to blitz often early. They know the Titans knocked out two quarterbacks, and will either be gunning for a third knockout, or to at least unnerve Thigpen even more than he already will be. I could not imagine how brave you would have to be to play quarterback for the Chiefs after the showing our line had last weekend.
What does that mean? It means we will have to evaluate him on a scale. See what he does with what he has to work with. See if he can make good decisions, avoid sacks, and not turn the ball over. I don’t expect the Chiefs to win, but if Thigpen can do his part to keep us in it, it will be a success for him.
Between him and Gray, wouldn’t it be nice if they Could be an option at quarterback. We will probably (hopefully after a successful trade) be in the market for running back. Better running backs are coming out than quarterbacks this draft.
Or am I completely wrong, and we should hope for them both to suck, only if it means that Carl and Herm will get the axe?
