Morning Update (Record Breaking Edition)

Recap coming up by 8 AM...
- Chiefs bottom out? Sad to say I don't think this is the bottom. We can do worse, somehow.
- We help too many teams get back on track.
- Another pretty good live blog of the game from Josh Looney at the Mothership.
- Bob Gretz has lots of good stuff up as usual.
- Got another one on board: Fire Gunther Cunningham... TODAY!
- What's sad is that Bills head coach Dick Jauron running up the score doesn't bother me at all.
- Joe Posnanski: "After much consideration, I’m going with the six sacks. I think that’s the worst part of this unbearable season. Oh, sure, it’s hard to pick just one thing. There are so many staggeringly awful things wrong with these Chiefs. They have been shut out. They have been blown out. They have been edged out. They have been freaked out."
- Whoops...got another blogger questioning Gunther Cunningham's tenure.
- Jason Whitlock: "They drafted Glenn Dorsey with the fifth overall pick. He has been completely ineffective. His rookie season has been far worse than Ryan Sims’ rookie season."
salary cap
I don’t pretend to be the most knowledgeable chiefs fans – but I read whitlocks article and had a question: Are the chiefs really that far below the salary cap?!
paxi - November 24, 2008
Yep
The lowest salary in the league. Their salary is $68Mil. and that makes up for A LOT of empty seats.
THE_TRUTH - November 24, 2008
If they did fire Gun
would it be through the internet again?
Lanier63 - November 24, 2008
They don't use the internet
If they do it through a press conference (as I’m watching ESPN) it’ll be Deja Vu all over again. Gun was at home and saw it on the tube as well.
THE_TRUTH - November 24, 2008
I thought he said he saw it online?
Lanier63 - November 24, 2008
I'm not so sure
I thought he saw the report on TV and they didn’t even have the decency to call him on the phone.
THE_TRUTH - November 24, 2008
Good to see
that Jabba “Ty Law is the missing piece to the Super Bowl” Whitlock is back to his usual form…a few weeks ago when he praised Thigpen, I thought aliens might have abducted him and replaced him with an android…
PVChiefsfan - November 24, 2008
regrettably, he's also correct in every point he raised
this team is cosmically and comically bad
sm7600 - November 24, 2008
lmao
DLChiefs - November 24, 2008
Dorsey worse than Ryan Sims??
Hrm. I can’t agree with that statement at all. I agree that the D line has done little to nothing this season, but he’s only 1 person, and everytime I see him he’s getting double-teamed.
IISaiNtII - November 24, 2008
most good D tackles are at least double teamed
all the time, but somehow are able to do good things anyway. D tackles are usually double teamed on runs when they are at the point of attack as well. Beating the double team comes with the job.
sm7600 - November 24, 2008
Except that ...
Dorsey’s the main threat on our D-Line right now, so teams can focus on him. Shut him down, and you break the backs of our Defensive line and, unfortunately, the only way that improves is with consistency so that the guys who are out there know what the guys around them are going to do.
And, it’s hard to get consistency on the Defensive line when you’ve got so many injuries. Our starting D-Line was Tamba, Tank, Dorsey, and Boone, with Edwards, Thomas, and Johnson as our Linebackers.
Edwards has been out with a hamstring. Thomas is out with a thigh injury. The leading tackler on our line (Turk McBride) is on the Injured Reserve. There’ve been several games this season (last week, for example) where Dorsey’s been playing between Ron Edwards and Wallace Gilberry.
It’s way too early to start calling him Ryan Sims, or even making that comparison.
JacinB - November 24, 2008
Agreed
I think that Dorsey’s been better than Sims and Whitlock gave in to his tendency towards wild hyperbole on that assessment.
UCrawford - November 24, 2008
Yes...
…he lost credibility with his sensationalizing everything like that…
It would be good to see the comparative stats though….Chris? Prime?
woodman212 - November 24, 2008
Easy Enough To Do
Ryan Sims’ stats.
Glenn Dorsey’s stats.
Dorsey has already surpassed Sims’ rookie totals in tackles, sacks, and (most importantly) games played and started. So he’s not worse than Sims his rookie season by any stretch. About the only argument that can be made is that Dorsey isn’t the savior of this line, but that’s not really a reasonable expectation to have for any rookie, particularly a lineman. And there’s probably an argument that he’s being utilized incorrectly, which isn’t a knock on Dorsey but on the coaching staff (all of whom except Gailey have shown this season that they love to try and fit those square pegs into round holes) or the front office (for drafting a player who couldn’t execute what the what the coaching staff wanted him to do).
UCrawford - November 24, 2008
Exactly.
Not sure I could have said it any better. For those too lazy to click on a link:

Easy Enough To Do
…unless youre a lazy ass like myself….haha
Thanks, that is a great defense of him too…good work…
I wish there was an ACTUAL way to like…hold Whitlock accountable for the stupid crap that he says to get people worked up…
woodman212 - November 24, 2008
You Can Always Post On His Comment Thread
Or write him an e-mail. He posts his address on his site and he often reads them.
Whitlock’s just expressing his opinion and he’s as accountable as anyone else who writes for a paper. If you’re unhappy about what he writes then the best way to counter that is to make a better argument and send it to him in an attempt to change his mind. Otherwise you’re basically just upset at him for having an opinion you don’t agree with.
UCrawford - November 24, 2008
Not Saying That To Run You Down By Saying That
Just pointing out that the best way to shoot down an argument you think is stupid is simply to make a better argument.
UCrawford - November 24, 2008
Well Said
From the New York Times sports blog in an interview with Michael David Smith talking about not attacking MSM writers instead just writing something better:
Joel Thorman - November 24, 2008
That is a testiment to everyone here
that collectively we show our support for our team. Not just through raw emotions but by sound reasonable thoughts and opinions that each of us share, for a common goal, which is to make our football experiance more entertaining and have the sense that we are personally involved to contribute something in making the Chiefs a part of our personal sports entertainment.
Lanier63 - November 24, 2008
What?
Man, that MDS knows his stuff! I totally agree with him. It is about time that you guys got some real recognition. This should come in the form of cash.
TheQ - November 24, 2008
He tries to get people worked up
because he wants something to change, and having fans who voice their opinions and are passionate are the best way to get that done. He intentionally tries to strike a nerve with people to get a reaction.
IISaiNtII - November 24, 2008
