The crazy, insane, almost can't believe it fact of the Kansas City Chiefs 2008 season is that you can make the argument, right now at least, that the Chiefs are only a couple plays away from being 2nd place in the division. With a .500 team at the division helm, first place is even closer.
No, the Chiefs aren't going to win the AFC West. But they may not come in last or even second to last place when the season is over. I suppose its best to be terrible when everyone else is terrible too.
It's Charger week so we'll be looking at San Diego as the week wears on.

Is it wrong for me
to be shooting-milk-out-my-nose laughing out loud that the Raiders #1 overall pick from 2007 has about the same stats as our 7th round (picked 215 players later) 3rd stringer made starter?
JaMarcus Russell
105/216 48.6% comp 1289 yds passing 69.0 QB Rating 6TD 4 INT
Tyler Thigpen
77/151 51.0 % comp 836 yds passing 67.6 QB Rating 5 TD 4 INT

I think everyone is now realizing
how much that ridiculous hold-out hurt his development.
P.S. No, it isn’t wrong at all…I think it’s freakin’ hilarious!

"No, the Chiefs aren't going to win the AFC West. "
How does it work?
If we beat SD once, beat the Raiders on the road, and beat Denver on the road, but lose the rest of the games, we’d be 4-12, but 4-2 in the division…what happens if 4-2 is the best division record?
PVChiefsfan - November 3, 2008
Best overall record
Then division record, then (I think) conference record, then common opponents, etc.
Joel Thorman - November 3, 2008
Exactly why division games no longer mean as much
Back when 50% of your games were against division opponents then you really had to win your divisional games. Because if you couldn’t beat your division you had almost no chance of going to the playoffs. Now you can win all the other games lose your division games still be 10-6 and go to the playoffs.

If for some freakish reason...
we manage to win out… and I do mean freakish… like a monkey with four asses freakish.
That would make us 9-7, perfectly feasible that that could be the best record in the division. We currently have the tiebreaker vs. Denver – the division leader.
I’m not saying I think it will happen, but it is possible.
Just think, if we won the last two games we would be tied for 2nd and 1 game out of 1st. Wow the AFC West is struggling this year.

I think some of the fans would have strokes
If we won out people would go nuts because we would be drafting in the second half of the 1st round. And if that did happen you know we would get killed in the first round of the playoffs again. I do think it would be fun though for this rebuilding year to end on a major up swing. Personally I would like to see us win half of our remaining games and get out of having to draft a top 5 pick.
tevans96 - November 4, 2008
That would make us 5-11
and I don’t think that would be a top 5 pick this year…
I could see both the bengals and lions going 1-15, followed by several 3-13/4-12 teams
PVChiefsfan - November 4, 2008
Yep
And that is exactly what I would like to see happen. Picking 6-10 still gives you plenty of choices and I think we could find a top end DE or MLB in that range of the first round.
Now if Thigpen flops down the stretch I might change my tune but I am hoping we don’t draft a QB in the first round.
tevans96 - November 4, 2008
We are gonna go 9-7
Run the table in the playoffs on the road, and win the superbowl!:)(laughing so hard at myself I passed out!)
Eric Allen - November 4, 2008
Would you still be laughing if we end up playing
like a 8-8 or 9-7 team? only without the wins that is.
Lanier63 - November 4, 2008
How do you figure that you can play
“like” an 8-8 or 9-7 team without the wins?
You either are or you aren’t those records. Just curious.
THE_TRUTH - November 4, 2008
you cant really believe we played like a 1-6 team against Tampa can you?
Lanier63 - November 4, 2008
Well
I can see the argument coming so I’ll intercept – giving up a 21 point second half lead seems to be fairly indicative of a bad team.
Joel Thorman - November 4, 2008
The answer is "Yes" to Lanier and primetime ran it back for 7. Errrr.....I mean 21 :)
THE_TRUTH - November 5, 2008
Come on now
at least agree that the PLAYERS played unlike a 1-6 team, however the coaching COACHED like a 1-6 team…thats my point.
Lanier63 - November 5, 2008
I have to disagree...an 8-8 team wouldn't allow a record comeback
At least historically Chiefs teams that had those records never allowed a record comeback…that’s what I’m saying.
THE_TRUTH - November 5, 2008
I'll wave the white flag on this one :)
Lanier63 - November 5, 2008
You're good :) ...I've said it before and I'll say it again...wish we had Lanier, Lenny, Buchannan, etc. in their prime today and I think it would be much different
