Where shall we start?
We lost the toilet bowl. In fact, we were dominated.
Yes, there were some positives as well:
Oh, and we're the worst pass rush defense. Ever. 10 sacks for the year, 3 short of the previous record.
Interesting statistic for the day is Tyler Thigpen's passer rating by quarter for the season as follows:
1st quarter: 100.9
2nd quarter: 82.3
3rd quarter: 68.3
4th quarter: 55.8
The Chiefs season is over but with a GM search looming along with another high 1st round draft pick in April, the exciting part of the Chiefs season is just starting.
To cheer some of you up, however, think about the Chiefs season this way: Effective immediately, King Carl's reign is over.

Proposals for the Off-season
We don’t know how the draft is going to shake out, or who is going to declare. But assuming the Lions take Bradford #1 overall…
1) Sign Cassel and get a pass rusher or a RB.
or
2) Go with Thigpen, spend the money somewhere else, and go with a pass rusher or a RB.
JobDDT - December 28, 2008
Throw whatever it takes at Suggs.

No Running Backs In The First Round
If we get Cassel we need a defensive lineman, offensive lineman or linebacker. We’re fine at running back (not to mention we’re already blowing a ton of cash on that position).
UCrawford - December 28, 2008
Ill add it
PERIOD
Lanier63 - December 28, 2008
LOL...agree PERIOD
‘nuff said. Don’t need to add anymore to it.
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
NO RUNNING BACK!
If we have learned anything the past few years it would be that running backs are a dime a dozen…it is all on the LINE…Offensive Line is needed, badly…
woodman212 - December 28, 2008
+1
No running backs in the first round ever again, unless it’s someone like Adrian Peterson, which probably isn’t happening anytime soon.
Chiefs n Chopper - December 28, 2008
I was here to say the same!
I say if we really want a QB (funny how many people are whining now after 1 bad game since ATL) then go BUY Matt Cassel. We would actually save money because you KNOW a first round pick will cost more! Look at Matt Ryan vs Tom Brady money. Get a LB or DE (I like Tank and Dorsey) with our 1st round pick. And then fill the other (LB/DE) spot w/ our next pick. I truly feel we are 1 LB (middle) and a Pass Rushing DE from being a great Defense (by the way, I think fire Gunther and move Herm to DC). 3rd round and after get the best OL available.
That’s my arm-chair QBing
Dustin SLO,CA - December 28, 2008
You can never move a head coach to coordinator in the NFL.
Generally it is believed doing that would undermine the new head coach and ruin any authority the DC/OC would have.
JobDDT - December 28, 2008
didn't think it would happen
I just think it would be a good thing. I like havimg herm around. Everyone seems to like playing for him. I just don’t like him at head coach obviously. He’s a defensive guy anyway. It’s not like he’s gonna get any HC offers if he’s fired…
Dustin SLO,CA - December 28, 2008
Like Gunther from HC to DC?
Although there were a few years in between there.
Joel Thorman - December 28, 2008
Thigpen's performance this season
looked like a f-ing bell-curve
Awful start
peaked in the middle
awful finish
Ochophosphate - December 28, 2008
I almost renegged him to certain 3rd string material
…the last TD saved him from my sig. line.
I don’t think I can handle anymore passing into double and triple coverage next year.
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
ahem..
don’t forget quadruple!
Ochophosphate - December 28, 2008
I was pulling for him this year
but today he defiantly solidified my opinion that he is nothing better than a #2, he’s been throwing a lot of ducks and balloons lately and even keeps trying to force his passes in to nothing less than quadruple coverage at times.
oldchiefsfan - December 28, 2008
Is there really any scenario that the Lions don't take Bradford?
I know it’s way too early without the combine but as of now.
Shawn - December 28, 2008
Stafford maybe
Some people like him better, more experienced, better arm and size. Plus a lot of teams don’t believe in taking a QB first. Miami took Jake Long…
FrankPitts - December 28, 2008
Wow...6 pts.
against the 25th rated Defense in the league
and 16pts. given up to the 32nd (league worst) Offense in the league
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
don't forget
it took damn near 8 tries from inside the 3 to score
Ochophosphate - December 28, 2008
Gotta have a Line to run
or to stop the run, for that matter.
Bleedingredandgold - December 28, 2008
Just got in from the airport
It doesn’t look good…
Chris Thorman - December 28, 2008
it smells even worse
like feces
Ochophosphate - December 28, 2008
It didn't look good from the start
We didn’t get past the 50 from 12 minutes into the first quarter until the 3rd quarter…..and that was due to a penalty against Cincy.
Horrible, Horrible….Cincy won the stink bowl..
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
Sooooo, jsut as in previous games we regress in the second half. DJ was right, this isn’t the Offensive coaching’s fault.
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
The is something to that statistic
and it is not good.
TheQ - December 28, 2008
In other news,
Derek Johnson… what do we do with that guy?
JobDDT - December 28, 2008
FIRE HIM TOO!
I’m going to do a post specifically on him this week. I’m sorry guys, but I don’t agree with the overall assessment on DJ. He is either not that good or just doesn’t play that good on game day. You dont need a great position coach or Def Coord to learn to play with passion and DJ has none.
Lanier63 - December 28, 2008
Seriously
How many times has he had an easy pick (possibly a pick six) that he just dropped? At least 2 (today and the Jets), both of those drops are game changing plays and definitely result in the loss.
Chiefs n Chopper - December 28, 2008
Prediction
Gunther and Krumrie are gone by week’s end. Herm will be gone within the next two weeks.
UCrawford - December 28, 2008
So, you're saying Clark will make the decision even without a GM?
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
BTW...Fox confirmed during the pre-game that Marty interviewed with Clark
for a “Bill Parcell’s type position” within the organization
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
really?
Lanier63 - December 28, 2008
Lanier...I only speak "The Truth"
I saw and heard it.
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
:)
I hear ya
Lanier63 - December 28, 2008
I got your back...I'm your Bell :)
If he’s lying then I’m lying, but Glazer said it. You got a right to rub your ears :) I did a double-take too so I absolutely understand you questioning it. It was speculation before on this board, but why would Glazer state it on national TV if he wasn’t sure?
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
I was more kinda "happy to hear it"
than questioning the validity
Lanier63 - December 28, 2008
I gotcha...I didn't take it in a bad way at all.
It was a “Great Googly Moogly” moment..in a good way.
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
And NO, we're not going anywhere for a while...hopefully next season :)

THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
wasnt it Chris Mortenson
that used to call us the “Chefs” until we had a winning season years ago?
Lanier63 - December 28, 2008
I believe you are correct sir!!!!!!
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
Maybe Marty could get his Super Bowl
from the front office? He would definitely bring back the Pride in this organization. He is probably not my first choice, but he is an interesting candidate.
TheQ - December 28, 2008
Who said it? Glazer?
Chris Thorman - December 28, 2008
Yep...in all his "Bald" glory
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
I can see him hiding across the street from Marty's house
Lanier63 - December 28, 2008
Was he the one that Clark talked to earlier in the week? or was there someone else
oldchiefsfan - December 28, 2008
woodman212 - December 28, 2008
I get you point.
But, I don’t think Clark would waste his time interviewing him if it wasn’t a good possibility in his mind. I wouldn’t use “long shot”….I’d use “in the running” or “short list” because I think Clark’s that type of owner.
Who knows, we’ll see.
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
He should
Lanier63 - December 28, 2008
2nd or 3rd pick?
I’m seeing conflicting reports?
ashleylat - December 28, 2008
2nd...St. Louis had an easier schedule barely. They showed the strength of schedule stats on TV
BTW…it was very close
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
If St Louis had an easier schedule they get the 2nd picks
Easier schedule and the same record so they are worse on paper.
ashleylat - December 28, 2008
Yeah, we should get the 3rd pick.
rockchalk - December 28, 2008
Where is Primetime?
Lanier63 - December 28, 2008
He must be eating one of the Parade's guilt free bacon cheese roll-ups!
Call 9-1-1.
TheQ - December 28, 2008
A SUICIDE ROLL!?!?!?!?
….we need an intervention!
woodman212 - December 28, 2008
Poor guy
never had a chance.
TheQ - December 28, 2008
That's the new name of it!
I vote for “Suicidie Roll” to be the name of Parade’s abomination for future references….
KansasCityShuffle - December 28, 2008
Look what I found!
This bastard is called the Bacon Explosion
It’s a lot like the Suicide Roll… but more meat… and no cheese.
I think both should be consumed at or near a hospital, just in case.

oldchiefsfan - December 28, 2008
I love the NFL....
We are out…but there are great games today…
Dallas/Philly…a playoff game….
Chargers/Broncs….a playoff game…
gotta love it, no matter how much you hate the teams…
woodman212 - December 28, 2008
keep thiggy, get work on O and D line,
keep thiggy, get some Offensive line help to open up running lanes for LJ and CHarles, and get some D line, to stop running attacks and get pass rush going. sign a quality free agents to fill positions we really strugling at. DE is one that needs a vet, and Oline needs a vette, dont put rookies there. then sign some rooks to Dline and Line backers. for depth. our secondary is fine, recieving core is fine. our qb, we need a 3rd. thiggy is fine once we get a good qb coach to guide him.
nfamous209 - December 28, 2008
Hothus just said that Thigpen should be “penciled” into the spot. Get a veteran and a high to low first round pick and let them compete for the job (Holthus). I’ve been saying that for a while. According to Holthus, he’ll be a good backup either 2nd or 3rd string.
He’ll compete, and if he wins it, he’ll earn it. Hothus made a good point that Thigpen regressed during this game and shouldn’t be guaranteed the spot.
We’ll keep Thigpen, but I don’t see him 1st string, especially if we get rid of the spread.
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
Ain't /nobody/ gonna look like a 1st-stringer
until the O-line gets fixed. Especially a guy in his 1st season at starting QB, be it Thiggy this year, or Target-boi next year. Maybe a vet could swing it – but you won’t find a quality vet QB who’d be willing to come here unless he’s confident of a solidly upgraded O-line.
Bleedingredandgold - December 28, 2008
But, let the QB's compete for the job
I don’t see Thigpen being the 1st stringer when they compete side by side. We’re not talking about O-line, we’re talking about capability of the QB position. We’ll see when the new HC calls out the list of QB’s for the 1-3 spot after training camp and pre-season (if it takes that long to decide). If I’m wrong and he makes it, so be it….but I don’t see it happening. Thigpen is what he is and proved it against the 25th rated Defense.
THE_TRUTH - December 28, 2008
And the running game was what it was
incapable. 1st-season QBs with no running game, and little line help seldom look good. A good HC will understand that fact.
Face it: Bones /had/ to throw fades into the end zone for INCs. Why? Because the running game was incapable of punching it in from the one. Period.
But, for the sake of being sure I’m understood: Yes, bring in another QB, maybe two. Let them compete against Thigpen as the guy who earned the job. If they can beat TT out, so be it. No job is safe in the NFL, nor should it be. Any clear upgrade is good for the team.
OTOH, anyone who thinks that Thigpen has “proven that he’s not a starting-caliber QB” hasn’t been paying attention to the makeshift scheme, makeshift line, makeshift receiving corps, and incapable running game. Or perhaps they are just harboring some fantasy that we’ll come up with an elite vet like Peyton Manning (maybe by drafting him, or something). But I doubt they are taking full consideration of the Offense before they throw Tyler under the bus as a “bust” at starter.
Is Bones proven, either way? No. But as someone else noted, as far as personal stats go, he’s been about as good as JaMarcus Russell this season, and with less to work with, and Russell was groomed for this season, to boot.
Bleedingredandgold - December 28, 2008
Russell's stats
http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/36751619.html?page=2&c=y
"While Russell falls short in comparisons to rookies like Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco, who immediately turned their teams into winners, his numbers compare very favorably to the other quarterbacks selected first overall.
In his first 15 NFL starts, Russell has completed 54.8 percent of his passes for 2499 yards, 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Those numbers are far from spectacular, but only two of the previous 15 quarterbacks taken No. 1 overall since the start of the common draft in 1967 — Michael Vick and Carson Palmer — have a higher passer in their first 15 starts than Russell’s 77.0.
He has fared better than future Super Bowl champions like Terry Bradshaw, Jim Plunkett, John Elway, Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning and Eli Manning."
In short, if Thigpen had been drafted high, his numbers being comperable to Russell’s, he’d be judged in much the same way. Being a late-rounder, everything else gets ignored, and he’s “just a back-up”.
I’d say that the better-ranked Oakland D accounts for the three extra wins that they have over us, at that.
Nope, Thigpen just sucks. If he didn’t suck, he’d have won more games, all by his lonesome, right? Bah.
