This is a few days old but certainly warrants a discussion.
Defensive end Jared Allen, who is scheduled for unrestricted free agency with the Kansas City Chiefs, attended Los Gatos High. He grew up a Raiders fan, but at this state he would prefer to play for the 49ers.
"Jared would welcome the opportunity to play in front of his hometown crowd," said Ken Harris, Allen's agent. "His family is up north. I have no doubt he has a high level of interest in playing (for the 49ers)."
Allen made similar comments yesterday to radio hosts Lamont and Tonelli of 107.7 The Bone, telling them he'd like to play for the 49ers.
The bad part of franchising Allen? He's repeatedly said if the Chiefs don't lock him up long-term this year, he'll never sign a long-term deal to remain in Kansas City. He's even hinted in the past that he may never play in KC after his current contract is up.
As usual, I agree with Jon at MVN. If the Chiefs truly do want Jared Allen long-term, it makes complete sense to do it this year. Jon said, "My hope is that the Chiefs sign Allen to a contract that guarantees a lot of money up-front in the early years of the contract, so that when the Chiefs have a fully rebuilt team in 2009 or 2010, they’ll have even more money to spend on free agent acquisitions that could put them over the top." A long-term deal right now satisfies both Allen and the Chiefs.
Smart, huh? Now let's see if that's what actually happens.

Lots of guys say they will never play for
this team or that team again. But by the time training camp rolls around they almost always ge tin camp. Hopefully we can work out a long term deal.TXroyal - February 6, 2008
Sports 810
They had Allen on 810AM and he kind of clarified this a little. He said he still wants to play for the Chiefs, but if he did have to go free agent he wouldn't mind San Francisco.
Also, he said that he expects them to put the franchise on him to protect him from other teams showing interest in him before they get a deal done. But he said that if he plays one down of football in a game under the franchise tag, he'd never sign with the Chiefs willingly.
So all is not lost if the franchise tag gets slapped on him as long as they rework his deal before the season begins.
I don't get what the problem is. I know Peterson is a tough negotiator and has saved the team alot of salary cap problems over the years, but come on. Why does he have to be so ruthless as to piss off our good players to the point that they hold a grudge?
If they think they can replace Allen, then fine, try to work out a trade for him so we can get something for him. If not, give the man the money you're going to give him anyway and get it over with. Totally rediculous.

So he
will come off with the money for half effort, but not balls out all the time? If I was Jared I would be pissed off too. The thing is he is not one of Carls boys.Eric @ Arrowhead Pride - February 6, 2008
If we gave LJ the money-give Allen the money
Surely, we wouldn't make a mega deal (just 6 months ago) and handicap ourselves from signing the (arguably) best player the Chiefs Defense has seen since DT.If we did make the deal with Johnson-and use that as an excuse as to not get a deal with Allen, the fans should send Peterson and the rest of the new Hunt ownership a little wake up call.
As a Chiefs fan, I can be patterened and condition to lose, but losing players (in their prime) is not acceptable-
I'd accept a $10 increase/ticket on my season tix if they resign Allen (I'm sure most True blue fans would). (multiply by 70,000 and we've solved our dilemma)
C'mon Chiefs front office-you can do it (and sell it to us)-you did it last year.
