Morning Update (Friday Edition)

  • Yahoo Sports has their 32 players to watch in 2008. Guess who the Chiefs' player to watch is?

  • Jonathan Rand in "Anybody's Guess" -- "There is a very good reason why mock drafts can’t form even a mild consensus on the Chiefs’ top pick yet. Most likely, the Chiefs don’t know yet, either. And if they did know, they wouldn’t be telling." PS: I'm liking what Mr. Rand is writing as of late.

  • I'm still having trouble wrapping my mind around this sentence -- "It appeared for a while that the Chiefs would be targeting a receiver in the first round this April, but word now is they will be taking an offensive lineman with the fifth pick."

  • After hearing former Chief Dan Davis' story about cracking his skull in a drunk driving accident and his problem with drugs, one student said -- "It was all very interesting. I sure don't want to use any drugs." More on Davis here.

  • NBC Sports has a great article on five myths of this off-season.

  • The Phinsider makes a great case against drafting Matt Ryan within the top five. That QB bust rate is scary.

  • I had this idea once -- Random 49ers Crap on eBay. Click through for a look at a Joe Montana Maxwell Coffee House can.

  • I really do wish Pacman Jones had his own blog.
Definitely check out those Dan Davis articles. The guy is a reformed moron. Links, coffee, Friday. Ahhh!

I guessed Croyle
as the Chiefs player to watch.  Or Bowe.  Nice to think that someone believes Darling is a person to watch.  Perhaps that's why all the talk about which receiver we'll draft at the #5 spot has died down.  [wink, wink - what was that guy talking about?]

Having pretty much given up on Jake Long being available, I've started to think Sedrick Ellis (not because I know a lot about him, but just somone who is an animal at DT) could make an impact.  I also wonder if adding an outstanding DT would increase Jared's desire to stay in KC.  The more disruption up the middle, the more QBs Jared can track down and strip.

Although not addressing O line at the top of the draft makes me very nervous.  I also wonder what really makes an Otah or Clady that much of a "reach."  I've appreciated the talent scouting ability of the current administration and am trusting them to identify the best impact player for the Chiefs at each selection, while balancing specific needs.  I don't, however, have a lot of faith in Carl's trading ability or creativity when it comes to deals.  That's just a specific concern, as I don't count myself a Carl hater.

And since I haven't posted for a while, just let me say kudos to Chris for such outstanding job on this site!  Some others have really stepped up the past few weeks, also, and I appreciate it!  Great analysis and questions! Go Chiefs!

Thanks
I know it's been slow around here the last month or so but I pledge to pick it up.
pfft
To listen to everyone outside of K.C. and Alabama, you know, everywhere except where people watch him play, Croyle should be a 3rd stringer for the next 10 years.

I just don't get that.  They don't talk about his injuries being the reason, they really don't have a reason.  All they ever show are his interceptions and nothing else.

Screw the Chiefs winning, I hope Croyle breaks out and has a fantastic season just to stick it to the "experts".
