Game Day! Happy New Year!! Arrowheadines is a little late due to a hangover, but it doesn't matter since we have a late game anyway, right? Chiefs and Broncos in Denver today, with a chance to spoil. Hope everyone is well and I wish you all a very happy New Year. Go Chiefs!!
The race for the AFC sack crown will be on display Sunday afternoon.
Chiefs Pro Bowler
Tamba Hali enters Week 17 trailing Baltimore's Terrell Suggs by one sack on the AFC leaderboard. Broncos rookie Pro Bowler Von Miller sits in third, a half-sack behind Hali and 1.5 sacks behind Suggs. Miller paired with Elvis Dumervil to terrorize the Chiefs in the first meeting between the two teams on November 13th.
Matt Cassel was hurried on 12 occasions and sacked four times before leaving the fourth quarter with a season-ending hand injury. Miller and Dumervil split the sack that injured Cassel. Denver Take Five from The Mothership
The Broncos are crashing at the wrong time. Their losing streak is enough to give credence to those who believe Denver was more lucky than good when it ripped off seven wins in eight games, four of the wins coming by a field goal. The Chiefs aren't exactly on fire but their level of efficiency and play has leveled off under Romeo Crennel. They should be good enough to beat a buckling opponent, if just barely.
Prediction: Chiefs 20, Broncos 17
Chiefs-Broncos Scouting Report from KC Star

New Year's Day: Mostly cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 42. North northwest wind between 3 and 7 mph.
Game Day Weather Report from The National Weather Service
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has placed RB
Jackie Battle on injured reserve and signed RB Shaun Draughn to the 53-man roster. Chiefs Place RB Jackie Battle On IR, Sign RB Shaun Draughn from The Mothership
Drafting no higher than eighth, barring a trade into the top five - which also isn't Pioli's forte - the Chiefs will likely miss out on the best quarterbacks in a talented class. Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, who's expected to enter the draft, will surely be gone by then and it seems that Landry Jones is staying at Oklahoma. That leaves Texas A&M's Ryan Tannehill or Arizona's Nick Foles as the Chiefs' best draft options. The Packers' Matt Flynn could be an interesting free agent if the Chiefs plan to bring in a legitimate contender for Cassel's job. They also could target the Buccaneers' Josh Johnson.
Breaking Down The Chiefs' Future, Position By Position from KC Star
Can't only be coincidence that the man Pioli considers his best friend growing up is Steve Cahillane, now the CEO of Coca-Cola and Washingtonville High class of 1983.
Or that, growing up, they shared this town with Brian Cashman (the Yankees' general manager), Tony Gilroy (Oscar-nominated filmmaker of the Bourne movies), Eddie Hawkins (the U.S. national soccer team's first American-born black player), James Mangold (director of "Walk the Line" and "3:10 to Yuma") and others.
All of this from a village of 6,000 people - fewer when this logic-defying generation of success came through.

Key matchup
Denver LBs D.J. Williams and Wesley Woodyard vs. Kansas City RB Dexter McCluster. The Broncos have had issues this month with "slash" types-players who can line up in multiple spots and have the speed and quickness to create mismatches...
...Getting McCluster involved in the offense makes even more sense when you consider that the strength of the Broncos' defense is the pass rush, led by Elvis Dumervil (9.5 sacks) and Von Miller (11.5). The best way to slow down a rush is with quick-hitting passes, so look for the Chiefs to hit McCluster on bubble screens and wheel routes out of the backfield.
Pre-Snap Read: Kansas City Chiefs At Denver Broncos from SportingNews
The evidence is in, and it is overwhelming. Nobody else will say it, and letting it drag into 2012 is morally wrong. So let us end 2011 with an inconvenient truth. No, not one involving a full of (redacted) vice president, but an even more dangerous one.
Tim Tebow is Satan.
He is the personification of pure evil, and he must be defeated and destroyed, never to rise up and spread terror and pain ever again.
Is Tim Tebow Satan? from The Washington Times
The Kansas City Chiefs signed linebacker Brandon Siler to a one-year contract extension after he missed all of this season because of a torn Achilles tendon.
Siler's agent, David Canter, confirmed the deal Saturday in a text to The Associated Press.
Siler was expected to compete for time at middle linebacker alongside Pro Bowl selection Derrick Johnson after spending last season with the San Diego Chargers. He had a good start to training camp but was hurt in late August, and had surgery to repair his Achilles a few days later.

It has been an interesting year for the chiefs
Here to a win today, and a good draft, and a winning season in 2012
Bigcherokeechief - January 1, 2012
an interesting year ...
“interesting” is an interesting word for it … other adjectives also apply
upamtn - January 1, 2012
Happy New Years, NJ
Last game of the season, kill the donkeys and Teblow out there playoff chances.
Hope everyone (and our KC Chiefs) has a wonderful 2012.
cowboyChief - January 1, 2012
Let's see Orton 1st quarter only
No need to risk next season.
crackpipe - January 1, 2012
Might not have him next season.
Besides, heck with playing scared. Let’s kick some (jack) ass!
Tarkus - January 1, 2012
Put Orton in for the first quarter, go up by 40
then put in Stanzi. That sounds reasonable to me.
Fozzyboyd - January 1, 2012
I'm sold.
Tarkus - January 1, 2012
My prediction..
The Raiders will best San Diego handily.
We will then deliver the knockout blow to Denver,
Keeping the donks out of the playoffs (sweeeeet).

achilles tendon tear
is a brutal injury. I’ve torn both my right acl and my right achilles tendon, and given an ultimatum, I’d take the acl twice before i took another achilles. I’m more confident in my surgically repaired acl than I am in my natural knee, but my achilles will never be the same. 3 years post-op and it still gets really sore and tight.
I’m much more worried about Siler getting back to form than I am Berry, Charles or Moeaki. Good luck dude, and glad you got the contract.

I was at that game and was so confused when he took that dive in the backfield
Crazy scary injury

I hate the Raiders more than the Broncos
So heres to hoping we beat Tebow and SD stops folding for once and realize they could get swept for the 2nd year if they lose
NJChieffan16 - January 1, 2012 via mobile
And a San Diego win ensures that we'll be drafting before them

ahhhh... Bliss

if no rg3...
kellen Moore is great like a drew Brees type small bodytype pocket passer very accurate most college wins in ncaa history as a qb correct me if I’m wrong 54 I belive Idk if we don’t trade up we can go D or ol 1st rd-3rd get kellen in the 4th and groom him till he is ready takes care of qb,ol,nt/dt,lb
kcchiefs2782 - January 1, 2012 via Android app
BTW
1st john Martin ol stan
2nd dontari poe dt/nt
3rd maybe coby fleener te or best lb
4th kellen Moore
5th rb or s help for berry or Charles
kcchiefs2782 - January 1, 2012 via Android app
He only has 50 and he is 3 inches shorter than Brees. I like him, But he will be a late round risk if anything because of his size
readANDgold58 - January 1, 2012
ya agree...
4th or 5th too early you think
kcchiefs2782 - January 1, 2012 via Android app
Only 50
Moore will turn out to be the most successful QB in this draft.
sms90 - January 1, 2012
like Brady a late round god
you never know
kcchiefs2782 - January 1, 2012 via Android app
You are nuts
Moore won’t ever become a NFL starter.
AZDiamond75 - January 1, 2012
and he passed
Colt McCoy who hasn’t had much success. To get that record you have to play all 4 years and either play for a big time program or in a conference that doesn’t provide any competition. Moore is no Brees, he doesn’t make the back shoulder throw, he doesn’t have the arm strength, and is smaller….Moore is a nice college QB who will get drafted in the 5th or 6th round and then never be heard from again.
AZDiamond75 - January 1, 2012
Oh, my............
after a long New Year’s Eve celebration lasting until after 2:00 a.m. one of the first things I am unfortunate enough to read is that mindless drivel spewed by a Raiders fan about Tim Tebow.
G.L. - January 1, 2012
got to score in the red zone
they have got to score in order to have a chance, field goals wont cut it this time.
chiefsfool - January 1, 2012
We extended Siler? Nice, I wanna see how he does
Matt Flynn? Why is he a hot name? He doesn’t play so y do people think we need to sign him as if he’s going to be better than Cassel? Or even compete? Not sure about the fascination him. Josh Johnson? No thanks
HIT34MAN - January 1, 2012
He played well against the Pats declining defense last year.. so he is the new hot name
Cassel was after replacing an injured Brady on a stacked team
Kolb was after tearing apart a few defenses(including ours) on a good Philly team
Now its Flynn
BAMFSpecialOps - January 1, 2012
He hasn't even played a whole game
What’s the fascination?
HIT34MAN - January 1, 2012
He's unknown.
Therefore, people can build him up to anything they want.
Tarkus - January 1, 2012
He played a full game against the Pats
Rodgers was out with a concussion, had a decent showing against the Pats declining defense.
BAMFSpecialOps - January 1, 2012
NJ, awesome stuff ... the absolute BEST OF THE DAY is the Washinton Times column on Tebow being Satan
absolutely spot on, well-written (for an admitted Raiders fan) and funny as hell (see what I did there?)
today I’m a Chiefs fan AND for the sake of the best rivalry in sports, a Raiders fan
upamtn - January 1, 2012
RG3 has officially entered the NFL Draft
HIT34MAN - January 1, 2012
He'll be a Brown.
Good for Cleveland.
Chiefs_swagger - January 1, 2012
Bad for RG3
ExRoyalsFan - January 1, 2012
All I want for new year's is to force the broncos to back into the playoffs
KC win
SD win
Elway conundrum with his starting QB when they get smoked in the 1st round of the playoffs.
If you can’t beat em, drag them down into your pit of despair
mushin - January 1, 2012
RG3 IS entering the draft.
Trade the farm
chiefnation - January 1, 2012 via mobile
bu then we'd all starve from lack of food
to flourish one needs continual growth … no farm = no potential for growth
upamtn - January 1, 2012
please we are all tebowing for that lol
I hope we do but not many see it I do thought I hope rg3 is in a kc uni next season and many after!
