At the Kansas City Chiefs press conference announcing Romeo Crennel as the new head coach, GM Scott Pioli declined to answer whether other teams had expressed interest in Crennel, citing the confidentiality of the other clubs involved (which implies other teams were indeed interested).
According to a report in the St. Louis Post Dispatch, there was at least one team interested in talking to Crennel. The Rams requested permission to interview Crennel early on in the process but "the Chiefs rebuffed them", according to the report.
This tells us the Chiefs had a pretty good idea that they wanted to keep Crennel, which is not a surprise. In fact, the real surprise here, if you ask me, is that the Rams apparently thought there was a chance the Chiefs may not keep Crennel, which is a surprise.
Of course, the St. Louis Post Dispatch also reported last week that the Chiefs requested permission from the Rams to interview Josh McDaniels. That report came a few hours before their other report that only
So the Rams were interested in Crennel.
Unless they weren't.

Well that's good to hear. Unless it's not.
At least I think so.
Unless I don’t .

We can't know what to think
because the Arrowheadlines aren’t here to influence our opinion, and Joel didn’t tell us. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO!?!?
bossmanham - January 13, 2012
The Rams are in St. Louis, until they're not, they were, at one point, in LA, until they weren't.
I miss my Arrowheadlines, unless I don’t.

Romeo should only be head coach
Romeo has decided to continue bieng the defensive cordinator also.this is no good at all.he needs to focus on the team period and let somebody else worry about the defense.it takes to much away from team.like whos fault was it when the chiefs got blown out of the games, what was his excuse then.their off to a bad start already.
chiefsfool - January 13, 2012
no, he hasn't decided to be the DC.
He will continue to have a hand in the D & maybe even call plays during the game, but day-to-day stuff, & gameplanning will be someone else’s responsibility. RAC being involved with the D is a good thing.
reedeasy - January 13, 2012 via Android app
Yeah he hasn't decided to be DC
He said he’s calling plays. I see the local news is reporting he’s the new DC (which is not accurate as of now).

Yeah Joel eleven guys from
The street could get that report right, what is wrong with the local news?!:)
Eric Allen - January 13, 2012 via mobile
He has only said he would continue calling plays.
It’s possible that he names himself DC, but then promotes someone to Assistant DC. It’s worked out well that way in a few other places, where someone else takes over a lot of the “administrative” DC duties, and Crennel still calls the plays and makes the final call.
I see no problem with it, especially since our defense is already playing at a high level.
misterbrain - January 13, 2012
It should work out fine
Mike McCarthy is doing this with offense in GB – he has Philbin as the “OC” but he calls the plays on gameday.
I have no issue with this – especially considering his knowledge and comfort level with the D.
The other good thing this points to is that he won’t be changing our D – so look for a coordinator that closely shares his vision on crafting/running a defense.
Ochophosphate - January 13, 2012
Belichick, Payton and McCarthy would like a word with you.
Tarkus - January 13, 2012
Crennel and his defense is what landed him the job.
Why would he not be involved with the defense? He should continue to have a big hand in the defense. That is what makes the oc hire very important.

It's been a long time, since I read Headlines...
What up Joel, we ain’t got no deadlines,
Think about how many weak posts I read through,
Times up, I’m sorry I kept you,
Thinking of this, Arrowheadlines I miss,
I feel like I’m the blogging soloist,
And I’ll sit back while you whistle this dope tune,
As you hear it, pump up the volume.
