With the start of a new week we thought we'd update you on the Kansas City Chiefs offensive and defensive coordinator search.
The update: there is no update.
Not much is going on (at least publicly) with the Chiefs coordinator search but they're surely working on the process internally. Romeo Crennel indicated last week that he would be interviewing candidates this week and perhaps even the following week.
The coaching staff is making their way to Orlando this week, site of the East-West Shrine game. Many times these postseason all-star games like the East-West Shrine game and the Senior Bowl are similar to job fairs for out-of-work coaches looking to catch on with a team.
In other coaching staff moves, there's been a report that the Chiefs lost a couple of assistant coaches but that hasn't been confirmed anywhere so we'll keep an eye out for that.

Hey Joel. What are your thoughts on whether the Arrowgate
controversy might scare away potential coordinators. I’m personally concerned that Arrowhead will be seen as a toxic environment, but hope that those “in the know,” or at least those that know RAC, would feel otherwise.
WoodyardBBQ - January 17, 2012
I think it might already be looked at that way.
severn58 - January 17, 2012
Yup.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
I think Matt Cassel is all we really need to scare away potential coordinators
The wire tapping is just gravy.
jmcgoblue - January 17, 2012
Testing...1...2...3...4. Did you get all that?
electriclight - January 17, 2012
That is what bothers me.............
I worked at a place like that and it was hell
LadyChief - January 17, 2012
Wait.
You worked someplace where you were stuck with Matt Cassel at quarterback?
bamachief5558 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
Ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LadyChief - January 17, 2012
How would we know
when all the blinds are drawn and there’s that candy wrapper on the floor that no one’s picked up in over a week! First one to pick up the wrapper gets to be OC!
Ozarks - January 17, 2012
Maybe that's how Muir got the job...
Chief-blinders-on - January 17, 2012
Ha!!!!!
LadyChief - January 17, 2012
Could he bend over to get something off the floor without throwing out his back or not being able to get back up?
Muir: “Help, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up?”
Pioli: “Congratulations, you are the new offensive coordinator.”
Muir: “No, seriously, I think I broke a hip and my life alert isn’t working?”
Pioli: “Close the blinds on your way to your new office.”
Muir: “aagh, my voice is scratchy!”
Fozzyboyd - January 17, 2012
I like how everything Muir says is a question?

It's an efficient way to work in an "imo" just so folks don't think you're making pronouncements from atop the Mount.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
And our irrational impatience grows
If only this team acted impulsively and made important hires on a whim…
cheapham - January 17, 2012
Carmichael as OC and Mike Nolan As DC.. get it Done!
Jeremy Daniel - January 17, 2012
You have to wonder if any decent coaches are going to want to get wrapped up in
all of this drama that is encompassing Arrowhead recently…
I suppose it comes down to money, but with the Chiefs being labeled cheap in that regard, it would be hard to see them win out over other teams if the offers are similar. Especially if these coaches think that Scott Pioli might get fired in the coming months.
Who would come here to sit at the dysfunction table?
Kent Babb is a genius.
Chief-blinders-on - January 17, 2012
Who thinks that?
electriclight - January 17, 2012
The incoming coaches might come to that thinking EL...
Everyone keeps rabble rabble rabbling about how serious these allegations are.
If they are that serious, you don’t think that a potential coach might think that an executive like Pioli under fire could be let go in today’s NFL?.
Which in turn might start another regime change that would have said coach looking for work in a few months when all the jobs are gone.
Chief-blinders-on - January 17, 2012

The Kansas City Chiefs are still currently looking for Offensive and Defensive Coordinators.
Unless they’re not.
In which case they’ve found their coordinators.
Unless they haven’t.
TRSThorman signing out.
TRSChief - January 17, 2012
Hue Jackson, Brad Childress, and Brian Schottenheimer are still out there.
I’d be happy with any of them.
m.yashi - January 17, 2012
Pass on Brian.
Mr.Pibbs - January 17, 2012
And Childress
kinda reminds me of Haley
KingChief - January 17, 2012
Childress looked so lost and out of control in Minnesota.
Maybe he’d be alright as OC, though.
Tarkus - January 17, 2012
He would be at home with an offense that looks lost
LadyChief - January 17, 2012
If Childress was on-board with ANY of that QB drama, I wouldn't want him.
And he was. Making trips to Louisiana, when he should be chasing OL in the draft and everywhere else… He’s a guy who’ll come in with the “QB needs upgrade” excuse for all his troubles. I kinda feel the same way about Martz. Geez, guys. Take a stand on OL and then be a genius at developing QBs.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012

Chief-blinders-on - January 17, 2012

Chief-blinders-on - January 17, 2012
Pioli is not that new anymore.
And I think it’s safe to say he won’t be bringing in Favre.
Tarkus - January 17, 2012
I know, I was saying whoever replaces Scott Pioli when he is scapegoated soon.
I get the feeling this stuff isn’t going to blow over.
Chief-blinders-on - January 17, 2012
Pioli is not going anywhere.
If anything, it sounds like Pioli is doing exactly what Hunt wants him to do.
Tarkus - January 17, 2012
Well I doubt they will just
change all of there office habits keeping the same management in tact.
How do you think they will fix it without a scapegoat?
Maybe that is where the Scott Pioli brilliance will shine through.
Chief-blinders-on - January 17, 2012
Fix what?
This will soon be forgotten.

Tarkus - January 17, 2012

Bigcherokeechief - January 17, 2012
We disagree.
I get it. You think it’s this huge scandal that is going to lead to big firings, and I think it’s a slow news cycle filler. Time will tell who is right.
Tarkus - January 17, 2012
I don't think it will lead to any firings
unless some schmo leak something in the office and then that guy might be added to the list of disgruntled employees upset with Pioli
Bigcherokeechief - January 17, 2012
Oh, that was blinders.
Sorry.
Tarkus - January 17, 2012
and I would add
That was also before the entire organization was raped over the coals for their business methods, even if they were Clark Hunt’s individual goals. People up top crack under public scrutiny and others are blamed.
Chief-blinders-on - January 17, 2012
Wow, Kent Babb must love you.
You give him more power than he could have ever imagined.
Tarkus - January 17, 2012
I don't see how I am giving him power
I’m not one of the ones freaking out about what he talked about in the papep. I just see the impact all of this negative publicity will have on the franchise.
Chief-blinders-on - January 17, 2012
You think Scott Pioli will be fired
simply based upon a Kent Babb article, of which even Babb himself said he doesn’t know what to believe.
Tarkus - January 17, 2012
The Templars are stealing Todd Haley's pee.
I saw it in another thread, The Internet wills it so it must be done.
go_saleaumua - January 17, 2012
...that's what I believe, anyway.
go_saleaumua - January 17, 2012
It's not just the Babb article. But if lots and lots of candy-wrapper stories are passed around
and it becomes a laughing-stock, it could undermine Pioli’s position. The fact that people are even talking about his position is a danger to his position.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
That Would Suck
Man maybe things are bad? I was once “raked” over the coals, but nothing like what you just described :)
Seriously I don’t think many fans give a rats at this point. Bug the offices, tap the phones, put saran wrap over the toilet bowls, I couldn’t care less if they win next year.
mls21 - January 17, 2012
Yep, winning cures all.
Just ask Patriots fans. They don’t let all the drama surrounding that team bother them.
Tarkus - January 17, 2012
It all depends. If the weight of a LOT of stories grows enough, then they're in trouble.
It’s not just the one little thing from Haley, or the comments by a few disgruntled employees, or the Babb article. It’s that these things keep coming. The list is now 3 items long. Regardless of the weight of any one thing, when/if we get up to 5 or 6 or … items, all of which will be over-talked about, they will all carry more weight, together. Then once you believe it because of its weight, you believe ALL the items, and there’s yer snowball.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
Everybody's man-crush Fisher is hiring him anyway.
Tarkus - January 17, 2012

A Hue Jackson / Al Saunders combo would be pretty dynamite. I’m guessing the team goes in a different direction, but I’d be happy if they went that way.

Still hoping for Clements
But given the “toxic” work environment over at Arrowhead, it is no wonder we keep being forced to promote from within.
Nick Britt - January 17, 2012
If we hire from withing, I'm seriously considering giving up next season already
The constant voids at important coaching spots on the staff have proven not to work. And if nobody comes in that can do a good job with Matt Cassel (until I’m proven otherwise, we’re stuck with him), what is the point of having hope this year? Unless we can become the 2000 Ravens on defense, I guess.
old_school - January 17, 2012
I second that
Clements from Green Bay would be a great hire.
OC would be a perfect next step for him. He could do wonders with all our talent coming back. That would set him up to eventually take over for RAC.
Matt_Grbac - January 17, 2012 via mobile
Steve Sarkisian
I know I know: a young college head coach? But I know Steve, we were one class apart at El Camino College. The man is a winner : high school and college as a player/coach. Look at what he is done at USC and Washington. USC scored MORE points when he became OC and Washington just scored 56 in their bowl game.

romeo's staff is just as if not more important than romeo
id love to know who is rumored to be leaving
i cant imagine losing the defensive staff, there are multiple guys coaching there in gibbs, thomas pleasent who id prefer not to lose. then on offense, id keep parmale personally, just because of how well the hb’s played despite losing their star at the position.(see battle, jackie) i guess you keep zorn
but the rest of the offensive staff, and our special teams coach, should all pretty much be shown the door, im hoping they are the ones rumored to leave
SDChief - January 17, 2012

Falcons got Mike Nolan
For the people that thought there was a chance he was coming here as DC…I never saw it.
kcsno56 - January 17, 2012
This
there was no way nolan was coming here to run Romeo’s defense. Although Atlanta in a 3-4 is a bit of a head scratcher to me if he’s bringing that with.
GenericBrand - January 17, 2012
Romeo is calling plays.
So anyone looking for a big name hire on that side are setting themselves up for disappointment. If they hire a DC at all (not a sure thing), it will likely be a promotion for Gibbs.
Tarkus - January 17, 2012
I wouldn't mind our secondary coach get a promotion.
But then again I’d rather Crennel stay at D.C and hire a offense minded H.C who like to run the ball. Either way it still sucks because the offense will be getting changed again as we continue the cycle of hurting the team by that alone. I for one would like for our QB’s to learn a offense, then get to play that offense for several years.
CPT.Caveman - January 17, 2012
Sounds like they're running a 4-3.
Nolan coached a four man front with the Jints in the mid-90’s, he’ll be fine. That team needed some new schematic blood anyway, on both sides of the ball.
go_saleaumua - January 17, 2012
Bring in Jim Caldwell
We’ve all seen what he can do when he has a competent offense. Not to mention what signing Caldwell would do to increase the chances of seeing Peyton Manning in a Chief’s uniform next year.
RAC City Chiefs - January 17, 2012
Do we really know what Jim can do?
Peyton Manning is the coach for that team when he ’s on the field.
CPT.Caveman - January 17, 2012
Given he's had Manning all those years...
He’s surely done something right to be with the team for 10 seasons.
And to be perfectly honest the fact that it would make our chances of getting Manning (If he’s healthy) even slightly greater would be enough for me to want the Chiefs to sign him.
RAC City Chiefs - January 17, 2012
It would be great to have Manning so don't get me wrong when I say no thanks.
Just think we need to look to the future with young talent, and not a QB who might or might not be 100%. IMO if the Colts are letting him go something has to be wrong or they now something no one else does. Peyton if healthy should have about 3 years left so I’d build around that not get rid of him. The situation for them was great if they hadn’t won any games they could’ve also had Luck.
CPT.Caveman - January 17, 2012
could’ve also had Luck??
Pretty super sure they are taking Luck. Not disqualified by winning a few.
electriclight - January 17, 2012
Another year with the Chiefs picking through the left overs to find coaches.
Woohoo we get someone who really isn’t the best option for the job because the options are limited. Will this ever change, will I ever see a chiefs team that doesn’t have to pick through coaches that got fired or take a guy that doesn’t fit our scheme of things……………….I’m starting to wonder.
CPT.Caveman - January 17, 2012
I wouldnt say we're picking through leftovers on OC
None of the ones that are very good have been hired yet and we don’t need a full fledged amazing DC because our HC is one.
GenericBrand - January 17, 2012
I want Marty back and Crennel can stick to the D.C job.
CPT.Caveman - January 17, 2012
Why?
What exactly did Marty accomplish here that you’d rather go back to that then try something else? I think the rose colored glasses are definately on when it comes to that era because of how bad the Chiefs were in the late 70’s and 80’s. Sure we won a lot of games, but didn’t have squat for playoff success outside of Joe Montana.
You do remember that for most of the 90’s, especially the early and mid 90’s, the Raiders, Chargers (outside of one lightning in a bottle Super Bowl run) and Seahawks were supplying us with half our win total. What happened when we played out of the division? We went 50/50 or worse against the other 4 AFC teams we played almost each year.
Marty was a great coach, and credit should be given for winning the games on your schedule, but he wasn’t going to win a Super Bowl with the way things were going.
UNIPanther - January 17, 2012
Most guys looking for jobs fit those categories.
Unless you promote someone from a lower position.
Tarkus - January 17, 2012
If RAC, I mean Pioli, doesn't hire by this Friday...
OC & DC will come from within…Just sayin’
Slim with the Tilted Brim - January 17, 2012
DC probably ought to, whether it's Thomas or Gibbs.
Both men have decent or better resumes for the position, although I wouldn’t necessarily trust either of them on their own (i.e. with an offensive minded head coach).
Who in the hell gets promoted on offense? Muir’s retiring or backing down to OL…are we promoting Zorn or Carthon?
go_saleaumua - January 17, 2012
