It's another cold one here in D.C. this evening. And the fact that we still have cabinets in boxes waiting to be installed in our apartment after ten days isn't helping things either. In fact, the boxes conveniently block the main heating vent, so things stay around a nice 65 degrees most of the time.
That's my night. And this is your open thread for the evening. Use it to talk about whatever you want.

About the draft
While it would be nice to get Rieff, Decastro, Martin or one of the other guys early on, I really think I would much rather trade back and acquire more picks instead. We moved back 5 spots in last years draft and picked up an extra 3rd rounder, this team has enough holes and lack of depth to warrant getting more 2nd and 3rd round picks by trading down. Unless by some miracle we get Andrew Luck, I say we trade down into the 20’s if we have to, but get us some more 2nd and 3rd round picks. Pioli has proven he is a good drafter, let him do more of it.

Well, school just started again.
Which means that every time I post on here I’m not doing the mountain of stuff I have to do. I can’t wait until I graduate. There’s no way the job I can get will be as stressful as college has been.

GenericBrand - January 18, 2012
It is literally impossible.
There are three reasons why my college career has been more stressful than average:
1. I go to one of the top schools in the country.
2. I’m majoring in the toughest subject (Physics).
3. I’m graduating in 3 years
From talking to my friends, their college life sounds like a vacation.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 18, 2012
OK, maybe not literally.
But it is unlikely, especially since (hopefully) all this work now will mean a high paying job where I don’t have to worry about paying bills or anything.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 18, 2012
Typically there is a direct correlation between pay and stress. Just sayin!
ExRoyalsFan - January 18, 2012
Mo’ money, mo’ problems.
Seriously, I miss being piss poor because life was simpler. For some reason, it seemed so much easier to scrape by on several hundred bucks a month than several thousand.
Sudden - January 18, 2012
Sudden is preaching the truth tonight. A Wednesday night sermon!
ExRoyalsFan - January 18, 2012
Because your spending habits changed
And you need to readjust them
(going through that myself)
nateforchiefs - January 18, 2012
Why?
Since I’m 4 months away from graduating and going into the real world, I’m trying to soak this “real life experience” stuff as much as possible. I figure it’s better to learn from others’ mistakes than to learn them the hard way.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 18, 2012
Well, there's a few reasons.
Without knowing your own personal situation, in my experience, many college students are living off of a subsidy from the folks. That dries up after college and all the rent, food, utilities, and simple luxuries become your own responsibility.
As for spending habits changing, it’s true to some extent at first. You’ll either develop tastes for certain finer items (whether it be certain foods, craft beer, particular wines or cigar, whatever) and with the means to actually afford those, you’ll become a small afficionado in one of those areas. You’ll also start to fraternize with people within your industry and pay grade. In doing so, you’ll begin to seek to live in similar accommodations, going out to similar restaurants, and essentially engaging in a lifestyle that will absorb ever more of your money.
Sudden - January 18, 2012
And if they're in the social sciences, their lives are vacations.
That said, even though your studies are more difficult and time consuming than theirs and the sheer load of work something approaching a metric fuckton, it will be the same ^2 when moving onto the private sector, at least at first.
The notable exception is if you go into govt work upon finishing. Of course, if you do that, you’ll have to worry about those checks boucing in a few years time.

Free Agents
Whats our BIGGEST free agent acquisition priority this offseason?
Everyone has been talking like Bowe and Carr are our only FA targets this offseason. I understand this, but what other positions will be addressed? I believe that Nose Tackle and O-line will also be addressed, but are they in the form of draft or FA?
Who’s out there that we have legitimate chances at? My belief is that Nose Tackle is a spot that veterans should fill. Think about how long it took Raji and Nada and Wilfork to evolve. O-line seems a more play right now kind of slot where guys learn on the job. In Green Bay, Baltimore and even Pitt they played guys in thier first year. Those dudes made immediate impacts on thier respective clubs.
Thoughts on where these guy will come from?

wildcatn8 - January 18, 2012 via mobile
There is to much of a price paid for FA NTs in my opinion.
I would rather get a solid RT in FA and some depth for the interior o-line, and maybe draft some as well.
nateforchiefs - January 18, 2012
put mims in for B rich or go find somebody
niageriannit1 - January 18, 2012
Mims literally couldn't do any worse at pass blocking.
We dont need an all-pro there or anything close, we just need a average or above average guy. If we have to overpay in FA by half a million for a couple years it will be worth it, jst get it done.
nateforchiefs - January 18, 2012
i just got tired of hearing holding # 67 all the time
niageriannit1 - January 18, 2012
And the second time the word "literally" has been used incorrectly today.
I’m sure Richardson is better than, say, me at pass blocking.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 18, 2012
Say "literally" again. Say "literally" again. I dare you. I double-dare you, motherfucker. Say "literally" one more goddamn time.
nateforchiefs - January 18, 2012

bang
nateforchiefs - January 18, 2012
UGH!!! Ya Got Me!!!
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 18, 2012
There's a passage I got memorized.
Ezekiel 25:17. “The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon you.” Now… I been sayin’ that shit for years. And if you ever heard it, that meant your ass. You’d be dead right now. I never gave much thought to what it meant. I just thought it was a cold-blooded thing to say to a motherfucker before I popped a cap in his ass. But I saw some shit this mornin’ made me think twice. See, now I’m thinking: maybe it means you’re the evil man. And I’m the righteous man. And Mr. 9mm here… he’s the shepherd protecting my righteous ass in the valley of darkness. Or it could mean you’re the righteous man and I’m the shepherd and it’s the world that’s evil and selfish. And I’d like that. But that shit ain’t the truth. The truth is you’re the weak. And I’m the tyranny of evil men. But I’m tryin’, Ringo. I’m tryin’ real hard to be the shepherd.

I'm curious what cold is in DC?
After benefiting from well above seasonal here in Canada we got blasted this week and when I woke up to go to the gym this morning at 4:30 is was -33F.
GenericBrand - January 18, 2012
Everyone knows Canada isn't a real place
just a mythical area where people name Craig and oil and Casey Printers are rumored to exist.
Sudden - January 18, 2012

cold is the high 20s. winter is not rough in dc.
BeauJackson - January 18, 2012
Last week we were mid to hight thirties
All crap weather this week and back to high twenties next week.
GenericBrand - January 18, 2012
thats how its been in connecticut this winter
down to 6 right now though.
DC you can expect most days to be around 38-42 during the day in the winter.
BeauJackson - January 18, 2012
I'm in southern California
If we got into the high 20’s people would start dropping dead in droves.

Shanghai_Chiefs - January 18, 2012
who do u think is the best wr coming out in the draft
niageriannit1 - January 18, 2012
Alshon Jeffrey
nateforchiefs - January 18, 2012
This for sure.
When everything is said and done he’ll be the best of this draft. He could use a good strength and conditioning coach and a decent QB that isnt named Connor Shaw.
GenericBrand - January 18, 2012
Best player or best WR?
I think Luck has the best potential of everybody.
nateforchiefs - January 18, 2012
WR
GenericBrand - January 18, 2012
For sure WR.
I dont trust Okie St WR’s at the next level
nateforchiefs - January 18, 2012
Me either
He could end up a stud but I just cant shake the feeling that he reminds me way too much of Crabrtree. Also he’s not very physical.
GenericBrand - January 18, 2012
Yep.
After Jeffrey destroyed my Huskers in the bowl game I became a full fledged believer
nateforchiefs - January 18, 2012
In half a game
Against a very underrated first round CB prospect.
GenericBrand - January 18, 2012
do u think jefferies will be gone by the time the chiefs pick
niageriannit1 - January 18, 2012
Depends how the combine goes
If he can run in the low 4.5s I think he’ll go right around our pick or just before. Not that I put much stock into 40 speeds but it seems like some do. I’ve seen him constantly outrun coverage for his whole college career. I think he’s projected mid teens to mid twenties right now.
GenericBrand - January 18, 2012
I think so.
IMOJeffrey is better than Julio Jones last year, maybe AJ Green too.
nateforchiefs - January 18, 2012
Whats crazy is in hindsight...
The Baldwin pick didnt pay off for us this year anyway so I almost would’ve rather taken something else first round last year and now had a shot at Alshon.
GenericBrand - January 18, 2012
It wasn't Baldwins fault or the Chiefs fault it didn't work out this year
Between missing the first 7 weeks with a broken thumb and the Tyler Palko
eraerror he wasn’t given much of a chance. If we had the opportunity for 1 or the other I would take Jeffrey, but hindsight is always 20/20 I supposenateforchiefs - January 18, 2012
The sad part is Dennard handled the best WR's in the Big 10 no problem.
McNutt from Iowa, BJ Cunningham from Michigan St. I do agree he is underrated though, if a scheme calls for a physical corner then Dennard is your guy
nateforchiefs - January 18, 2012
Theres going to be a learning curve for him when it comes to following NFL rules for CBs
But once he gets that down he’ll be something else. Like Courtland Finnegan but with a higher ceiling.
GenericBrand - January 18, 2012
I do like that he is fearless. That alone could get him far in the NFL
