The Kansas City Chiefs coordinator search continues this week as the Chiefs coaching staff makes their way to Orlando for the East-West Shrine game. Romeo Crennel has indicated he plans to interview guys this week and possibly even next week at the Senior Bowl if the positions aren't filled.
He's also indicated that the Chiefs could be waiting for one of the remaining playoff teams to lose so that he can interview one of their assistant coaches.
I'm not going to act like I'm an expert on the rest of the coaches around the league because I'm not. But I did go through the coaching staffs of the remaining teams and plucked out some names that could be of interest.
49ers coaching staff: DC Vic Fangio, OC Greg Roman, DL Jim Tomsula
Giants coaching staff: DC Perry Fewell, OC Kevin Gilbride
Patriots coaching staff: DL Pepper Johnson, S Matt Patricia
Ravens coaching staff: OC Cam Cameron, DC Chuck Pagano, LB Dean Pees
Any names jump out at you?

Didn't Romeo say he was going to be calling the defensive plays next year?
severn58 - January 19, 2012
Why yes, you handsome devil you, he did say he would be calling the defensive plays...

severn58 - January 19, 2012
did you just call Thorman "handsome" ... oh wait!
… never mind
upamolehill - January 19, 2012
I think he'll still need a coordinator.
bossmanham - January 19, 2012 via mobile
I got that, but with him wanting to call
Or at least be part of the calls, I don’t think we should get our hopes up for someone sexy.
severn58 - January 19, 2012
I think it will be Gibbs
Which means we would be looking for a LBs coach.
On offense, we need at least 3 more coaches.
Nick Britt - January 19, 2012
Jim Zorn.
nateforchiefs - January 19, 2012
Sucks.
Nick Britt - January 19, 2012
If he can make Flacco have a good year, he can work wonders with Orton
nateforchiefs - January 19, 2012
like he did with Cassel and Palko?
upamtn - January 19, 2012
Cassel and palko have no where near the skillset of flacco to develop
trentchiefsfan - January 19, 2012
haley called most of the plays this year
haley wouldn’t free muir
niageriannit1 - January 19, 2012
In Haley's defense ...
He did give Muir a chance to escape, but Muir dozed off and wound up sleeping through it.

You can polish a turd, doesn't mean it will shine.
Fozzyboyd - January 19, 2012
Fact:
A turd will shine.*
(* – If you cover it with several coats of high gloss varnish before polishing.)
JacinB - January 19, 2012
I've never tried that. Guess I have a project tonight.

Ha, that is awesome. I stand corrected.
Fozzyboyd - January 19, 2012
I think who ever we see as OC
They will be assistant HC, and will handle some the HC jobs. I think we will see RAC roll as DC
Bigcherokeechief - January 19, 2012
Pepper my Johnson
Dean Pees has NE connections as well but has already failed as a DC.
Nick Britt - January 19, 2012
Read Bruce Arians might be out in Pitt. Could be an option for offensive coordinator.
tomahawk44 - January 19, 2012
From what I understand
Arians is contemplating retirement and is nearing 60 years of age. Not that age is a complete factor (no age discrimination suits please), but he may be thinking of moving on with other things in his life than more football in a less stable situation than what he’s had for so long.
JMagsKC1 - January 19, 2012
Agree on nearly all points...
but that would still be freaking sweet.
higgige7 - January 19, 2012 via mobile
I'm betting...
That our next OC is someone most of us have never heard of.
Scott B. - January 19, 2012
oc
Al Saunders team could be scary on both sides of the ball with Orton as the QB.Take some from Marty on the D & Vermil on the O side.Clark would be selling tickets .
sodablaster - January 19, 2012
was the last OC we had worth paying
ExtraMetal - January 19, 2012
yes weis was if the chiefs would of kept
haley out of the way
niageriannit1 - January 19, 2012
Weis lighting it up since
guy averages 18 months per job… sounds like he’s part of the problem.
ExtraMetal - January 19, 2012
OC- Chip Kelly
Time to set the trend instead of following them
ArrowDread - January 19, 2012
And why would Chip Kelly want to come here and be an OC?
kcsno56 - January 19, 2012
$$$
Also, a new challenge. Prove it can be done in the pros.
ArrowDread - January 19, 2012
To get a raise to come to KC
He would have to make 2 or 3 times what any other OC makes in the NFL.
He also has a 6 year contract at Oregon, so he makes great money, and has basically complete job security.
He’s not coming here for money…at least not as an OC. If you were arguing for him as the HC a few weeks ago, then maybe we could pay him more.
kcsno56 - January 19, 2012
I think the only thing he'd want to prove in the pros is that he can be a HC. Nothing less.
Chiefs447 - January 19, 2012
He has a better contract than RAC...
And he’s going to come here to be our OC? C’mon.
kcsno56 - January 19, 2012
Hey, a guy can wish...
We’ve already got the lean, athletic linemen needed, the WRs, and an RB to make his system go. Would just need a QB….
But no, dude aint going anywhere. Setting up in Eugene for a decade-long run
ArrowDread - January 19, 2012
Seems like Gilbride has done a nice job with their offense and specifically Eli. They've had awesome receivers for while now too.
Can’t see why he would leave their OC to be our OC though. Unless he thinks he’d be the HC in waiting.
Chiefs447 - January 19, 2012
The only name that jumps out is Kevin Gilbride.
And that is not because I would want him as an OC but simply because of some things in his past like getting punched by Buddy Ryan and running the “Run and Shoot” offense in Houston (Oilers).
G.L. - January 19, 2012
Wasn't that Houston offense
top 5 in scoring every year he was OC? He’s also managed to do some very good things with the Giants, working around Eli’s limitations and playing to his strengths. His offenses at NYG have been 9th, 7th, 8th, 3rd, and 14th over the last 5 regular seasons; first year they were 14th in scoring and won the SB.
That said, other than Mike Mularkey, Kevin Gilbride would probably be my top choice. Since Mularkey is already in JAX and Gilbride doesn’t appear to have much reason to make a lateral move, I’m guessing we’ll be stuck with Daboll or a college HC as our new OC, neither of which I’m excited about.
JHWK - January 28, 2012
I thought Perry Fewel did a great job as the Bill's interim head coach a few years ago, and he's been excellent as the Giants' defensive coordinator.
But obviously he wouldn’t be a candidate for anything here in KC.
MtHammer - January 19, 2012
Love him in Jane's Addiction too.

In regard to OC Cam Cameron
From Rotoworld.com: Appearing on Sirius XM Radio Thursday morning, NFL Films guru Greg Cosell described the Ravens’ offense as “incredibly predictable.”
“Watching their tape is like watching the 1960s,” he continued. “One receiver to each side. Isolation routes. No bunch sets or rub routes.” Added Cosell, “I’ve never seen a group of receivers so unable to beat man coverage.” The Ravens’ offense has become so predictable because they were blowing easy wins when attempting to run a pass-first offense in the season’s first half. We suspect Joe Flacco is going to have to air it out to beat the Patriots.
JMagsKC1 - January 19, 2012
Out of the ppl we could realisticly get would like to see us get for...
OC: Tom Clements, Hue Jackson, Al Saunders, Joe Lombardi, promote Jim Zorn, or Aaron Kromer
DC: Jim Tomsula, Dean Pees, Gary Gibbs, Greg Manusky, Steve Spagnuolo, or keep Romeo Crennel
ChiefsFan90s - January 19, 2012
I don't know if it is true
but my son said that the Chiefs have already stated they won’t interview Jackson.
ValkRider - January 19, 2012
OC.....
Jim Caldwell! Entice Peyton to come with! AFC West favorites and instant SB contenders!
EmmyICT12 - January 19, 2012 via Android app
Pepper Johnson Stands out.
He was pretty good in Tecmo Super Bowl. That might have been because LT was so good the offense had to shift their blocking scheme.
just a guy - January 19, 2012 via mobile
LT, Harry Carson, Carl Banks
…pick your poison with that LB core.
Pacific Chief - January 19, 2012
Cam Cameron.
Not that I want him, necessarily, but his name stands out.
JacinB - January 19, 2012
OC Jeff Davidson, Tom Clements, Daboll, DC Crennel with Gibbs designee
FrankPitts - January 19, 2012
Why would a coordinator
on a playoff team come to KC?
maddirishman - January 19, 2012
Who doesn't like a good challenge
KingChief - January 19, 2012
Because they are already on a winning team.
KC Scout - January 19, 2012
Probably wouldn't.
But a lesser position coach may want a promotion.
/Clements
Tarkus - January 19, 2012
OC
What does anyone think about bringing in Jim Caldwell…might be more of an enticement for Manning to follow him here….or should I do research first for all I know he isn’t even an offensive coach lol…I don’t pay much attention to other teams
T_Town_CHIEFSfan - January 19, 2012 via mobile
Caldwell = Bill Muir v.2.0
Couldnt get Old Man Muir to wake up, and theres not enough coffee in Piolis budget to keep Caldwell awake
ArrowDread - January 19, 2012
I'm on board!
Been saying the same! I know Caldwell isn’t the greatest but with Peyton(Qb/OC) on board too you take care of our 2 biggest weaknesses! Plus even though it didn’t go well for Caldwell as HC he at least has experience doing it which I think would also help RAC!
EmmyICT12 - January 19, 2012 via Android app
Go get hue jackson or al sanders or jim caldwell as oc
kcfan9999 - January 19, 2012 via mobile
Jim Caldwell didn't call the plays.
That was clearly always Peyton.
JacinB - January 19, 2012
In other words:
(If he’s healthy) Go get Peyton.
JacinB - January 19, 2012
But Peyton played with Caldwell his whole career right…as I said maybe that would entice him to come here knowing the D we have and the weapons on offense we have
T_Town_CHIEFSfan - January 19, 2012 via mobile
He might be a good choice for OC...
cause it is highly unlikely he plays again.
12t - January 19, 2012
I've actually thought about
that some lately, the problem is Peyton still thinks he can play and isn’t likely to retire just to become our OC imo. Maybe in a couple years once he’s proven to himself that his career is done, he’ll be a hot target for OC somewhere.
JHWK - January 28, 2012
Joe Philbin
Since he`s not calling plays in Green Bay coming here and calling plays could be enticing to him. Really anyone who does`t have a Pioli connection would be refreshing.
chadb - January 19, 2012
I think we are waiting for Greg Roman.
That 49er offense took a big step forward this year, and my guess is that it wasn’t entirely due to their new HC (of course they do have a pretty good O-line). They really surprised New Orleans with several of their play calls. I like this pick. We need an innovative OC.
midcalchief - January 19, 2012
I'd like Pepper Johnson for DC and Greg Roman as OC from that list.
Pepper is a good line coach, and could learn the DC ropes under Romeo.
If Roman can find a way to gameplan and make Alex Smith look good, maybe he can do something with Cassel if we’re still stuck with him starting next season.
