Future Of Casey Wiegmann, Kelly Gregg Is Uncertain

The Kansas City Chiefs finished the 2011 season by beating the Denver Broncos on Sunday and it could have been the final game for a couple of veterans. Casey Wiegmann and Kelly Gregg are both expected to consider retirement.

Wiegmann is 38 years old and almost retired last offseason. It's been assumed that this is his final game. He's previously said he doesn't want to make a big deal out of his retirement so we may see a simple statement announcing his retirement, if that's what he chooses to do. Kent Babb of the KC Star reported after the game that Wiegmann didn't say one way or the other what he would do but that retirement clearly seems like the route he'll take.

Gregg, 35, is also a retirement possibility. He signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs this season and Babb reportedthat he said after the game that he plans to talk over his future with his wife.

So we may have seen the end of two great careers. Wiegmann of course has over 11,000 consecutive snaps which is such a ridiculous stat. Gregg's age and his size will make it difficult for him to continue.

I’ll take Gregg for another year.

meh, totally unimpressed with the guy (not to mention he'll be another year older)

Wiegs I love but he’s up there and will likely retire (should, I think)

draft a NT...

chiefs need to draft a NT in 2nd rnd not wait till 5th. there is 3 abovr average NT coming out this year and we should get one.

Wiegmann gets dominated at the point of attack to often. He just doesn’t have it anymore and definatly needs to retire. Gregg could probably play another year but I wouldn’t re-sign him unless Powe isn’t ready to enter the rotation. We should go with Powe and Gordon rotating at NT and think about drafting another one.

He’s always been small. It’s Hudson’s time. Good planning by the team, picking up Hudson a year ago.

Wiegman has over 11,000 consectuve snaps

on his streak. At age 38 I think he could easily walk away from this tough, tough game while he is sitting on that 11,000+ streak. He has earned some time away from brawling in the trenches with 300+ pound men. Gregg is a guy who is obviously slowing down. At age 35 and carrying 300+ pounds, yeah it is probably time for him to move on as well.

it's POWE time!

also, wiegman had a great career, but it’s definitely time for him to retire. he’s had some pretty poor performances this season. the chiefs had better be scouting every single OL player coming out of college this year. they need AT LEAST two guys that can break into the rotation next season.

Thank you, Casey.

I sincerely appreciate all of your years of service for our team. You played your ass off for us…and you can’t ask for more than that.

Bring back Gregg if only for depth

Weigs….not so much

Both of their replacements are already on the roster

Hudson looks like a promising player with the talent to step in now. I’ve liked what I’ve seen in Powe but it’s only been teases.

Wiegs streak is Fantastic

BUT it also hurt the Chiefs alot this year. Both Haley and Romeo were too protective of the streak, and let Hudson rot on the bench, when he should have got some valuable time at C, especially in the 4th Q of blowouts.
