If Kyle Orton's postgame quotes mean anything, I would guess he's not coming back to the Kansas City Chiefs. Orton referred to the Chiefs as "they" and not "we" and his words didn't make me think he was thinking hard about returning to Kansas City.
The KC Star has a story with Orton's postgame quotes and this one stood out to me:
"I don't know," Orton said when asked whether he thought he would return next season. "I'm going to step away. I know they've got a great quarterback in Matt Cassel. Matt's a good friend, he's a great teammate, and he's a great quarterback. As I look at it, it's his team. We'll see what happens."
Check out the KC Star story for more quotes from him.
It's just speculation but those quotes don't give me the feeling he'll be back. Things can (and usually do) change so there's that. But the early speculation on Orton's future leans toward him headed elsewhere in 2012.
Michael Lombardi of NFL.com previously reported the Chiefs will make an effort to retain Orton in 2012 so we'll see which way this thing heads.

Let's hope he's back
I have no confidence in Cassel anymore.
super8 - January 2, 2012
lets hope hes not back.
Overall he was barely better than Cassel, especially in terms of team production.
Sure, he had a career day vs. Green Bay… but other than that he ddn’t do anything to impress me.
Worst of all, keeping Orton because he’s a slight improvement over Cassel.. and in turn putting off the QB search for yet another year would be a HUGE mistake by the Chiefs.
I’m sick of putting other peoples cast offs in there to try to ‘improve’ or ‘finish’ their careers. It’s high time the Chiefs went out and got a QB they think can be the long term solution (RG3, Flynn, Stanzi, etc) instead of continuing on our 30 year streak of slapping a band-aid on over a gaping chest wound.
Texas Chief - January 2, 2012
Wouldn't Flynn be another team's castoff?
I don’t think bringing back Orton necessarily puts the QB search on hold. It just says they think he’s better than Cassel right now. I’d think (hope) they would still look to draft another QB to learn from Orton and compete with Stanzi.
bh13 - January 2, 2012
He's never started anywhere in the NFL.
He’s never been more than a back up, and he’s still very young.
So no… he wouldn’t be a ‘cast off’ or an ‘aging vet’
Texas Chief - January 2, 2012
They might still draft one.. but it would be another 3, 4, 5, 6, 7th rounder of a developmental pick.
It certainly wont be them stepping up and taking the chance/risk on a 1st round QB.
29 years… too long.
Texas Chief - January 2, 2012
I don't think they're going for a first rounder this year, Orton or not
Luck and RGIII are out of reach because I don’t see them wanting to give up that many picks and pretty much everything I’ve read says they’re the only two worth it in the first.
I’d love to see them take a chance on one myself, but it doesn’t seem like this is the year to do so. Maybe I’m wrong, I’m certainly not as up on college football as some.
bh13 - January 2, 2012
I'm not an Orton fan
I can’t see the chiefs giving the money I think he will try to get next year. There are too many teams that need a qb. He’s gonna get paid by someone, and I sincerely hope it’s not us.
fleetmarine - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Even if the Chiefs "make an effort to retain" him
he doesn’t have to agree to stay. I say we (1) let Orton go and use that money elsewhere, (2) get healthy and get some key pieces in free agency and (3) trade up and get RG3 to compete with Cassel for starting spot. We need an elite QB prospect! This is our greatest need!
kc_balla_89 - January 2, 2012
Lot of people are going to be really disappointed when we don't get rg3.
We’re not in position, and need the best qb available, ie Orton.
bossmanham - January 2, 2012 via mobile
yes - RGIII to the Chiefs is a pipe dream
Ren - January 2, 2012
Agreed.
Getting sick of hearing about him, personally. It’s not going to happen.
Tarkus - January 2, 2012
Me too.
bossmanham - January 2, 2012
I am not sure he will work in the NFL he plays in the spred, I know it has worked ok for Newton but just because it worked once I am not sure it will work again, he might turn out to be a good pro qb but I think it will take a few years
ChiefsfaninFlorida - January 2, 2012
getting sick of hearing about Orton myself, no more cast offs. Make the big move for RG3 or Flynn.
The Rams aren’t giving up on Bradford yet. It’s HIGHLY unlikely they take RG3, which means they are in a great position to collect a pile of picks/players for their draft slot.
The Rams NEED someone for Bradford to throw the ball to… aka Dwayne Bowe.
The Rams need some help on the D-Line….aka Glenn Dorsey
The Rams need a corner back…..aka Brandon Carr.
Someone is going to make a play for their #2 spot, probably several someones. The question is which team is fully committed to going all in for a chance at a franchise QB and which teams only wanna put in their ante and then fold.
RG3 is not a pipe dream. It’s a real viable option. Just need Hunt and Pioli to man up and admit the team has gone far too long playing with other peoples cast offs trying to squeeze a miracle season or 2 out of people that have never shown they can, or are far too old to continue.
Texas Chief - January 2, 2012
Let me see if I'm reading this right
You’d be willing to give up three of our best players just to get one QB, leaving us with three new holes to fix and putting our new QB behind a (currently) shaky line minus one weapon?
bh13 - January 2, 2012
All 3, no
Just listing options.
2 of them… yep.. sure would.
Texas Chief - January 2, 2012
I wouldn't, but I'm a semi-conservative type in that regard
If we were closer and only needed to give up one or a couple picks to move up, fine but it just seems like way too much to give up.
But…of the three, I’d say Dorsey and Bowe. I like Bowe, but I think we’d have a harder time replacing Carr and Dorsey just seems like he’d be better off in a 4-3.
bh13 - January 2, 2012
That’s why we would trade up! Can you imagine what our record could have been had everyone been healthy?? We don’t need a complete overhaul of talent on this football team. We need a few more pieces, depth and an elite QB. We can trade some trade picks! If the ATL Falcons can go from picking in the late 20’s to #6 to take Julio Jones last year I think we can manage at #11 or #12 to trade up into the top 5.
kc_balla_89 - January 2, 2012
With Scott Pioli as GM? I doubt it.
He’ll hire someone who can “fix the quarterback,” i.e. Cassel, and prep the guys who’re here.
I do see us drafting a passer, just not Griffin or Luck…or even a Tannehill, or Foles. My guess is we look at the kid (man?) from Okie State in the third round or so, and go to war with Cassel/Stanzi/Rookie as our lineup.
go_saleaumua - January 2, 2012
You are probably right, but I sure hope you are wrong on Cassel.
Mr.Pibbs - January 2, 2012
Me too.
go_saleaumua - January 2, 2012
Orton is just being politically correct
If Pioli offers him a nice deal he will take it.
This is NOT Cassel’s team….not by a long shot.
I hope he re-signs with us and we make him the starter.
Matt_Grbac - January 2, 2012
Thing is has Orton really showed enough
to be offered a contract. I think he has but I doubt Pioli thinks he is that much better than Cassel so it probably will be Cassel.
Chiefs3188 - January 2, 2012
has Cassel shown enough? anything?
upamtn - January 2, 2012
he shows that he can be a good backup
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
Yeah a backup that led us to 10 & 6 and an AFC West Championship; sure, he hasn't shown us anything.
crashman6 - January 2, 2012
And a first round out
At the hands of the Ravens. At best the team will win one playoff game with Cassel. I don’t see him playing at least three good consecutive games against elite opponents.
Scaryclouds - January 2, 2012
Don't forget the Momentum shift when JC dropped the ball...AGAIN!
crashman6 - January 2, 2012
I think he's shown enough...
to be the third quarterback.
Nicoloco - January 2, 2012
Thats just idiotic
Cassel isn’t a very good QB, but the guy is better than a 3rd string QB
Flowers24 - January 2, 2012
Let's see if he can prove that
with a solid camp/pre-season QB competition.
neiowakcfan - January 2, 2012
With Pioli, there probably will be no competition for his boy.
Mr.Pibbs - January 2, 2012
One source says Cassel could be on thin ice, another source says Cassel's our starter.
At the end of the day, we know what we know…
-Pioli drafted Cassel, and brought him to KC
-He is signed to a (now affordable) contract
-The team responds to him
-He is chronically inaccurate, with inconsistent footwork
-He struggles to break down defenses efficiently from a pro-style set
…who knows what it will really bear out.
go_saleaumua - January 2, 2012
I respond to a bad head cold...
…it just isn’t a good response. I doubt that you meant the team responds well to Cassel. I think it’s the exact opposite.
Red Shadow - January 2, 2012
*chuckle*
I might rip that line off a time or two, to be honest with you.
I think they like and respect him as a teammate—that’s what I mean by respose. They know he works hard and knows what he needs to do. (Now, ability? Execution? W/ Cassel, those are different stories altogether).
go_saleaumua - January 2, 2012
Maybe he heard about Spagnoula Being fired... and naturally assumed that McDaniels would be our HC.
I’d refer to them as ‘They’ too. McDaniels really didn’t inspire him much hope in Orton to be the starting QB… especially with Cassel being McDaniels loves Cassel long time.
ravenhawk - January 2, 2012
With McDanials drafting Tebow and all
while Orton had just put a 4000 yard season, I kinda feel badly for Orton.
Chiefs3188 - January 2, 2012
McD will not be the HC - OC probably but not HC
Ren - January 2, 2012
Who said McD will be the HC.
ravenhawk - January 2, 2012
That's how I took the statement too
jmcgoblue - January 2, 2012
Oh Yes It Is...
Cassel still proved he is more capable of getting us into the end zone more than APs favorite QB flavor of the month Kyle Orton. This is Cassel’s team. Get used to it.
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
Matt! You're back!!!
bossmanham - January 2, 2012
I think what I read from Orton's words
is so long as Cassel is on this team Orton is not going to play for the Chiefs. If they want him, they need to trade Cassel, he going to go where he is a guaranteed starter, and where there is not QB controversy, If I was orton that is what I would do, he been in two QB controversies and has been adversely effected by it.
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
Just who would sign a Kyle Orton and Guarantee He'd Start?
There’s not a team in the NFL where he’d go in the lock starter. This might be as good a shot as any for him. I don’t want him, nor cassel, but the rea;lity is one pof them will start here next year, and one of them will be a backup here or elsewhere.
dablueguy - January 3, 2012
I agree; except the common AP'r REFUSES to factor in the chaos the offense was thrown into with the loss of Charles and Moeaki...
Plus, Haley apparentrly changing passing routes and game plans on FREAKING FRIDAY or SATURDAY; but you know it’s all because Cassell can’t get a team to the playo….OH, WAIT!
AP stands for Apes Post!
crashman6 - January 2, 2012
Yeah, cause Cassel is so great.
Mr.Pibbs - January 2, 2012
What a shame it would be
Orton has done more in three games than cassel did all year long.i say keep them both or trade cassel.Matt is not the long term answer for this offense, but we all know he is not going anywhere because of his patriot way with pioli.if they make josh mcdaniels their offensive coordinator then he will stay for sure.
chiefsfool - January 2, 2012
WHAT?!!!
Orton has ONE TD pass in three games and HE HAS DONE MORE THAN CASSEL? Cassel did more in the second half of the Indy game than Orton did in three. 138 QB rating and 4 TD passes not good enough for you?
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
thats one game
indy has two wins. i mean at least orton help beat the Previously undefeated Packers
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
By What?
We only scored 19 its and he sucked in the red zone? Can’t understand the Orton love. He got CUT by the Broncos.
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
God I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees this
Orton is not a big upgrade over Cassel. Cassel at least takes care of the ball. I for one don’t want either of the two because I feel we need someone better.
fleetmarine - January 2, 2012 via Android app
actually they give the ball up close to the same
fumbles and interceptions. But yes both are mediocre and we need a good QB
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
He asked for his release.
The Broncos granted it. It’s semantics, but that’s not really being “cut.” If you think Brady Quinn is better than Orton, fine, but the Broncos had two starters and one wanted out because of Tebow-mania.
neiowakcfan - January 2, 2012
dont get me wrong
i dont like either QB
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
Actually, it's more the 600 yards in two games, and the ability to move the chains, that gained Orton support.
Not to mention his decisiveness, the ability to go through progressions, the ability to pass the ball to more people than just Dwayne Bowe, the win against the Packers, and just the overall better team with him at QB.
But no, Cassel is BETAH!
bossmanham - January 2, 2012
Me thinketh you jest.
crashman6 - January 2, 2012
This is my big concern. I keep using the word mediocrity and that is what we'll have if
we retain Crennel and give the QB job to Cassel. How could anyone blame Orton. If he sees the big picture and would not be happy as a backup to Cassel, then he has to look elsewhere. This is managements fault. They need to make it clear that this team is welling to go out and get the best coaches and players available and not be happy with 8-8 or 10-6 teams. In reading this site, I’d guess that 80% of the fans see that Orton is an upgrade over Cassel and if the Chief’s stick with him then that shows that they are satisfied with mediority and we fans are just followers, paying our time and money and following the sheep over the edge of the clift.
jcox31mc - January 2, 2012
I think what you misunderstand
about most people lobbying for Orton is that “HE IS THE BEST QB AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW” Peyton will be tough to obtain, RG3 and Luck will NOT be an option for the Chiefs….So who? Matt Flynn? I dunno, other than that, Orton is the best out there and with the talent KC currently has, we can succeed with him, better than Cassel (not sure about Stanzi) So MOST fans here on this site wants the player who gives us the best chance to win…
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
I believe the kids say....
This.
HisDirkness - January 2, 2012
I completely agree. I think Orton is our best option right now unless something else happens.
Management just needs to make sure Orton feels that he will be treated fairly.
jcox31mc - January 2, 2012
Yes
I think you take orton and try to find a QB in the 3rd or 4th round of the draft. Kellen Moore is my pick, but I wanted Yates in the 4th round last draft so I doubt I get my wish.
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
Wait a second, Cassel gets us to the playoffs, Orton doesn't and you thimk Orton is more successful.
You didn’t do to well in reading and comprehension did you?
crashman6 - January 2, 2012
Cassel got nothing to the playoffs.
bossmanham - January 2, 2012
im on a cell and i hope thats in sarcasim font
If you think Cassel carried us to the playoffs this conversation is over. We would have easily won 2-3 more games last year with Orton at the helm…there is so many Cassel to Bowe highlights because………….that was the ONLY READ IN HIS PROGRESSION. Hell, you throw Terrance Copper the ball that many times and I’m sure we’ll have a nice highlight feature as well.
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Did I say carried, know he got us to the playoffs as our starter, so bitch all you want. He's proven that when he has a team around him he gets the job done.
As far as possibly having more wins last year with Orton, I think it shows what you’re full of and it ain’t football knowledge.
crashman6 - January 2, 2012
Sure...you're very convincing.
At least Aiken tries…
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Have a nice day.
crashman6 - January 2, 2012
Allow me to translate for everyone else
“You disagree with me, so you’re clearly stupid”
MNchiefsfan - January 2, 2012
I know that we will not trade up for RGIII - it's not the Patriot (Pioli) way
I wish we can keep Orton since he’s by far a better passer than Cassell. Cassell will get our players killed (again). It was a message from above that got us Orton so we could move forward with a veteran QB and we dont have to endure 2 years of growing pains with a rookie
Ren - January 2, 2012
but
_ orton got bowe hurt _
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
Bowe had an impressive last game
just in the first hald too
Chiefs3188 - January 2, 2012
agreed
bowe looked good . hope we get him resigned . or at least use him as trade bait for a QB like rgIII. Then pick up a Wideout in 2nd or third .
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
In the unlikely event they trade up for RGIII
There won’t be a second or third round pick most likely. It’s going to take a lot more than Bowe and our first.
bh13 - January 2, 2012
if the NFL didn't change the concussion rules - bowe would have been back in

It didn't work because
underscore space phrase underscore is not the sarcasm fontneiowakcfan - January 2, 2012
Pioli is NOT stupid
he knows he cannot be a successful GM without having that elite QB. He’s not fooling himself. I think he has the balls to trade up. We’ll see. We said the same thing about SS Eric Berry. We were all surprised!!
kc_balla_89 - January 2, 2012
Big difference
In picking a great player that’s available when you pick and giving up tons of picks to go get one.
bh13 - January 2, 2012
Remember when Thomas Dimitroff traded all the way up to get Julio Jones last draft?
So much for the “Patriot way.”
ChiefsFetish - January 2, 2012
The Falcons are a lot closer than we are
They can afford to give up (too many) picks for one player. We still need to build our depth.
bh13 - January 2, 2012
Dimitroff has Guts and has regualrly deviated from The Patriot way
Pioli, not so much with either.
dablueguy - January 3, 2012
I'm not a Cassel fan by any means...
but Orton didn’t show me any more than Cassel.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
Looked at times better
at times the same as Cassel. Orton seemed to be a little better. Orton throws more int’s Cassel throws for less yards.
Chiefs3188 - January 2, 2012
300 yards in two out of three games
progressions , only sacked i think once , thrown to like 7-8 different receivers . bigger arm , better zip . that one throw to bowe was awesome . I mean orton is no QBOTF . but better than cassel
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
Without Haley fucking with the game plan two days before a game...
but by all means continue your Cassel rant.
WTF happened to AP?
crashman6 - January 2, 2012
I've seen Cassel make nicer throws to Bowe...many times. I think you should agree.
ottawachiefsfan - January 2, 2012
when did 299 become 300?
he didn’t throw for 300 in two of three games, he did it in one of three. but let’s just give him an extra yard because it sounds good.
BeauJackson - January 2, 2012
I disagree
Without Jamaal Charles making the offense looking competent, Cassel has looked absolutely worthless here in KC (2009 and this year).
DrDC - January 2, 2012
Remember Orton had little time to get used to offense
Though it does sound like he won’t return, if he does I imagine it will be a QB competition this off-season in KC.
Topher Doll - January 2, 2012
Not much of a competition since Orton has a much livlier arm
Ren - January 2, 2012
I agree with you there
Topher Doll - January 2, 2012
I dunno, Joel.
Orton just seems to leave the door open to anything here. He’s just saying what he has to regarding Cassel, who probably is his friend. If he can move the offense better, then it shouldn’t be Cassel’s team.
bossmanham - January 2, 2012 via mobile
I hope youre right and Orton is being politically correct
I’d rather have Orton since he moves the offense, unlike Cassell who is a career backup.
Ren - January 2, 2012
I think Orton wants a team who actually wants him
He doesn’t want to just compete for the starting job he wants to be the starter.
Chiefs3188 - January 2, 2012
Yeah I can see that - there are teams out there who will overpay for him
The hot spots to land would be Clev, Mia, Sea, Tenn or Wash, with Wash being the treasure trove since Snyder throws money at anyone who breathes.
Ren - January 2, 2012
Tennessee has two QB's they can win with, how are they a landing spot?
Orton doesn’t play like a West Coast passer—more of an intermediate thrower than short yardage—so I dunno if he’d be an “ideal” fit for Cleveland, Seattle, or Washington either. Those three teams could all make a run for Matt Flynn first, as he better fits their offenses (IMO).
MIA already has an Orton-esque player in Matt Moore…
I just don’t see who else would sign Orton and give him a chance for major minutes, besides KC. I could be (and often am) wrong, but none of those clubs jibe for me as Orton destinations.
go_saleaumua - January 2, 2012
I COULD see Jacksonville throwing $$ at Orton, just to have a passer in place who can win games.
Gabbert ain’t dead, but he needs a ton of coaching before he can be anointed the next anything (other than Busto). Orton could be a good placeholder down south, especially if they hire a coach familiar with the E-P, play-action system…
They are trying to interview Mularkey, according to PFT.
go_saleaumua - January 2, 2012
The problem is it might not be much of a competition because Pioli will make it Cassel's
job to lose and that in itself will chase Orton away.
jcox31mc - January 2, 2012
Thats what I was thinking
Chiefs3188 - January 2, 2012
Even then if Orton sticks around Cassell will lose it - after 2 games of sub 200 yd games
Ren - January 2, 2012
If we have a coach who's not affraid to pull him.
jcox31mc - January 2, 2012
yeah thats true
Ren - January 2, 2012
I don't think RAC would settle for consistent negative yardage.
He knows how that exhausts a defense…
go_saleaumua - January 2, 2012
How about a coach not afraid to use him, instead of shit screen plays and no preperation by the coaching staff.
There’s a reason Haley got the axe.
crashman6 - January 2, 2012
You clearly must be Matt Cassel.
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
IF Orton don't return
I pray Stanzi works extremly hard to overtake Cassel as starter. All this talk of us trading up to get RG3 not going to happen too many desperate teams like SEahawks, Dolphins, and Redskins that need Qb. MOst of those team have higher seeds so no way that’s going happen, IF Orton is gone hopefully McDaniel can come in and recreate a better Matt Cassel or Stanzi make significant progress in offseason to overtake him as the starter.
joed2001 - January 2, 2012
cassel is already close to 30 years old
i dont see him changing much . he needs replacement . Stanzi on the other hand maybe, but not looking to give my hopes up .
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
It is possible that RAC or the next head coach
will encourage the OC and QB coach to develop Stanzi. Haley clearly had no interest in doing anything of the sort. Another one of his unchosens that he pre-determined to dislike and wrote off.
neiowakcfan - January 2, 2012
In the two games against Denver
Orton produces 7 points at home against a D he watched ALL YEAR.
Cassel produces 10 on the road and misses the last two drives.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
????
if you talking about games against Denver
comp/att yards td’s int
Orton was on the road 15/29 180 0 0
Cassel was at home 13/28 93 1 0
Palko releived cassel 5/6 47 0 0
Battle AXE - January 2, 2012
yeah.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
???????
They’re both pretty impressive, huh?
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
you'd think Orton could do better
especially after playing the team he practiced against all year and at home.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
Can't put up passing #'s when the playcalls are nothing but McCluster up the middle and 2 yard TJ.
bossmanham - January 2, 2012
Look, I'm imbarrased to even talk about Cassel
I dogged the guy all year. I see that Orton has a stronger arm. I’m just saying the guy isn’t scoring any more points. I’d rather not have either. I’m just saying you could flip a coin between these two.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
I think a lot of that is the OC
Ren - January 2, 2012
I seem to remember wideouts and backs running right past the spot where Orton put the football, several times yesterday.
Seems to me that he and his guys aren’t on the same page all the time.
I also don’t think Muir knows what to do once he runs out of his ten to twenty scripted plays…I saw a lot of that patented Thomas Jones Sweep in the second half. And the McCluster draw worked twice in the first half (really well, in fact)…and then was as useless as always in the end.
Orton got hung by only being here for five weeks, and by a playcaller who should be coaching linemen. He’s not the savior, but he ought to be our guy for 2012, if it’s between him and Cassel. But that’s just my take on it.
go_saleaumua - January 2, 2012
Ask yourself this outside of Bowe who on this team is known as a point producer in the NFL
Either you have to have a overpowering line that improves your scheme or your skill players have got to be td makers . All of our td makers outside of Bowe have missed a ton of time
Willie Beamon - January 2, 2012
Succop.
neiowakcfan - January 2, 2012
or road, my bad.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
again, incorrect
Orton did not practice against Denver’s D. He practiced against the scout team D, which emulates the upcoming opponent…
neiowakcfan - January 2, 2012
Did our gameplan seem like it was designed to feature Orton ? Romeo made a point to tell him it wasnt about him and to stay within the game plan well before we even played
As I said before its Matts team and I heard that both he and Orton share the same agent so Ortons words were chosen very carefully
Willie Beamon - January 2, 2012
Wrong. In Denver Orton would have
worked against the scout team’s defense, not Denver’s defense. You don’t prepare for your team’s defense, you prepare for the other team’s D.
neiowakcfan - January 2, 2012
QB
there is a lot of ? about what will happen to me it starts with the head coach then the OC then getting the Players…….I think the Biggest problem after coaching is the QB and o line i do think Orton is better then cassel but do not think either can take this team a game beyond the a playoff birth … yes i know if we get all the injured players back we will be a better team… still does not fix the problems on the offence… and i do not want McDaniels in any form…
Battle AXE - January 2, 2012
if we could use bowe to trade
and take RGIII . then maybe pick up a WR in the 2nd or 3rd. id be ok with that.
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
God no
Our offense was TERRIBLE without Bowe yesterday.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
but our offense has been Terrible all YEAR even with him
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
With Plinko and Cassel starting?
NJChieffan16 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
if minny is the third pick
give them our first , bowe , and cassel . then maybe a 3rd . idk , i just want a real QB for a dang change.
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
It will take more than that to get from 11/12 to 3
Especially with all the teams that will be looking for a QB. Minnesota could just sit back and wait for everyone to outbid each other until they get some crazy price.
bh13 - January 2, 2012
I wish people would quit talking about trading Bowe. He's a Chief's and needs to remain so.
jcox31mc - January 2, 2012
Over potentially a QBOTF ?
i love bowe . alot . But we NEED a Qb…
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
I could deal with trading Bowe if it meant RGIII would be wearing Red and Gold for the next decade.
ChiefsFetish - January 2, 2012
thats basically the only thing i would be ok with
RGIII or Luck . if neither . Keep Bowe by all means
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
isn't Bowe an unrestricted free agent?
how would the mechanics of attempting to trade him even work?
i agree we need him. we looked awful without him yesterday.
nickpapagiorgio - January 2, 2012
You franchise him and then trade him.
At least that’s what a lot of people are suggesting.
Tarkus - January 2, 2012
If RGIII is not a possibility, then maybe we should be looking at Flynn. I read his record
with LSU, and he’s been a winner all of his football life. Anyone will be able to bid on his services and he just may be the next Brees. He was a:
On January 7, 2008, Flynn led LSU to a BCS National Championship, beating Ohio State 38-24. Flynn was named offensive MVP of the game and the Tigers were ranked an undisputed #1 in the polls.
And: He is currently listed as the Packers’ second-string quarterback, having won the competition for the back-up role to Aaron Rodgers, beating out fellow rookie and second-round pick Brian Brohm.[
jcox31mc - January 2, 2012
i would maybe be ok with Flynn
just gotta be careful taking other teams backups. Sometimes their team makes them look better than they really are…. cassel.
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
we need to pick up a QB in Free Agency that has a bum shoulder - (brees)
Ren - January 2, 2012
haha
what about a bum neck ?
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
Thats fine as long as he can turn his head
yes Peyton start doing your calistentics – it worked in KC with Montana, but Montana had the master of the playbook OC – Saunders.
Ren - January 2, 2012
what about the offensive mastermind ..
MUIR . he could prob do great things with manning lol
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
yeah .... ok
where the hell is the sarcasm font?
Ren - January 2, 2012
Sarcasm ?
why would i need that
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
No for me - Muir needs to goooooooo
Ren - January 2, 2012
sarcasm was intended
i want muir to retire . hes not helping the line , and his playcalling skills are AWFUL.
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
Laconfora reported that he would retire this year...
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
good
he had a good career . its just time to throw in the towel
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
Thank God if he retires
Ren - January 2, 2012
With Manning you could really save money, you don't need an OC.
jcox31mc - January 2, 2012
lol
this is true
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
Yeah never thought about that
Manning is QB/OC – that works
Ren - January 2, 2012
I like Flynn
plus he’s already seasoned. The question is, what kind of play would Pioli make for him? You wanna talk about numbers, dude had 480yds and 6 tds yesterday.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
Thats impressive - Gb does have some weapons
Ren - January 2, 2012
If the Packers can afford it
They should tag Flynn and make teams deal with them to get him.
bh13 - January 2, 2012
Orton was only here 6 weeks and did more than Cassell did the entire year
Orton also had to deal with Muir as an OC – christ Brees would have been handcuffed with him.
Ren - January 2, 2012
That is the biggest f@#$ing delusional thing I have ever read.
Thanks for the LULZ!
crashman6 - January 2, 2012
I do think that Flynn might be the next elite franchise QB. You have to take chances
like NO’s did with Brees. How many teams didn’t even pursue Brees, including the Chief’s.
jcox31mc - January 2, 2012
because of Brees injury not because he was considered a backup
Willie Beamon - January 2, 2012
It's possible for Flynn - he had an outstanding game, but it's just 1 game
But, it was the Lions?
Ren - January 2, 2012
let's look at the people we've been hiring
cassel=good year with the pats, their OL, and their weapon
orton=good years with the bears/broncos, decent OL, and ok weapons
Matt Lynn=good game with the packers, ok OL, and great weapons
let’s see them play with a crappy OL and WRs who can barely catch
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
hahaha +1
Ren - January 2, 2012
WRs that can barely catch?
I want you to name me 3 receivers Orton ever threw to that are as good as Breaston and Bowe, not to mention a full year of Baldwin and Moeaki with Charles and McCluster coming out of the backfield.
Flowers24 - January 2, 2012
either
Keep Orton or trade up for luck or rg3 Cassel should not start in kc ever again with the weapons we got we need a qb who can get the ball to our playmakers. Package Cassel dorsey 2and 1sts to indy for luck they get a backup for manning and a starter in 43 linemen and the 1sts
rickrock58 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Brees 6'0" 209 32 and SD let him go for Rivers. Flynn 6'2'' 225 26 and healthy.
jcox31mc - January 2, 2012
but thats not the reason no other team chased him His injury scared people away not his play
Also Flynn is a longtime backup who got a chance to start a game on a sb offense loaded with offensive weapons . Does that not sound familiar ?
Unless you are running GB’s system and bringing in Finley and Jordy Nelson guys having all pro years you would have to be outright crazy to hand Flynn 60 million dollars .
Willie Beamon - January 2, 2012
Nelson did nothing against KC.
How many points did we score on Detriot?
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
nelson has scored tds in each of there home games and they were playing in GB . Its totally a trap ala Kevin Kolb BUYER BEWARE !!!!!!!!
Willie Beamon - January 2, 2012
Mark my words, GB will get a 1st round pick for Flynn
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
they would have to Franchise him first.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
this has the same feeling of 2009....hmmm what happened then?
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
good luck getting a pick for a FA
neiowakcfan - January 2, 2012
it would be a hell of trick
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
QB
lets just draft a qb move up a little if we have too but end this picking up scraps from the table of other teams…. the chances of a bust are about the same i have been a fan for over 25 years and not seen but a couple of qbs here that were great and those were short term… green , montanta, deburg to a small extent….
Battle AXE - January 2, 2012
The QB's that you mentioned were all experienced. Based on your comments, Flynn would
be perfect.
jcox31mc - January 2, 2012
was saying
we have not drafted a great qb ….we get our Qbs from other teams and only a few have been winners
Battle AXE - January 2, 2012
beggers can't be chooser's...
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
Orton would be crazy to sign with KC as long as Cassel is still being carried on the roster
The guy just went through a similar scenario in Denver. How’d that work out for him?
Don’t get me wrong. I greatly prefer Orton over Cassel. But if I am Orton, why in hell would I willingly sign myself into a surefire “QB Controversy”? Answer: He’d only do it if he has an idiot for an agent.
If I am Orton, I have my agent tell Pioli that there is no deal with Cassel on the roster…Period.
RrustyDawg - January 2, 2012
I guess it would depend on what kind of offers he sees in the open market.
There may not be a team out there that would make him the clear cut starter.
m.yashi - January 2, 2012
I agree, but if he signs with KC...
…he also knows for sure that he is NOT the starter with Cassel on the Roster.
If he signed and Cassel is also a Chief, we will have daily “who will win the QB competiton” stories from the day he signs the contract until one of them is cut/traded.
RrustyDawg - January 2, 2012
you gotta wonder why orton lost his job to tebow in the first place
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
when you draft a 1st rd qb you have simply have no choice .As Phil Simms said the moment they take a 1st rd qb the clock on your time in that city is ticking
The Broncos once they started Tebow didnt expect to win they They were gonna suck for Luck or some other top QB and then have a excuse to get rid of Tebow but making the playoffs have really screwed them
Willie Beamon - January 2, 2012
Matt and Orton supposedly have the same agent
Willie Beamon - January 2, 2012
intresting....
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
Didn't know that!
That is a major fly in the ointment. No agent would willingly allow 2 of his “starting quality” QB’s (I don’t agree with that assessment, but the players involved think so) to sign with the same team.
RrustyDawg - January 2, 2012
okay the name of the agency is athletesfirst and they rep Orton and Matt AND JC
http://www.athletesfirst.net/clients/athletes/
Willie Beamon - January 2, 2012
Good friends
Orton and Cassel were good friends before he came to the Chiefs and still are. Orton isn’t going to be here. Just as Cassel wouldn’t feel comfortable going to Denver in the same situation.
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
I don't think they're that good of friends to pass up a starting gig and pay!
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
When..
there are other opportunities out there it is enough to pass up staying here to compete for the job.
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
isnt Brees a free agent
i dont think they did a new contract yet . can we just throw a bunch of money at him
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
Brees would not come to KC (tear drop)
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
but we can give him
1 BILLION dollars !
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
I guess Hunt borrowed the money machine from the Fed
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
call it an investment lol
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
chiefs are too big to fail
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
Lmao
Hahaha. great one
motrepip - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Lol
motrepip - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Bart Scott to be a free agent...so....is this an upgrade over Belcher?
I wanted Scott when he was with Baltimore
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
how old is Scott?
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
31?
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
you think they would do that
after just extending Siler?
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
I thought we were all about Competetion?
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
I don't miss Siler....he never "really" played with our D...
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
I'm just thinking
about the kind of money he might want and you know how Pioli likes to throw the money around.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
I'd love to know what Pioli really thinks about Cassel
and the situation heading into next year.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
get in line.....
Battle AXE - January 2, 2012
me too
im nervous that he actually thinks Cassel can take this team somewhere
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
pioli thinks? I thought he stutters and ignore the questions
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
same here
cassel will take this team some were …. lose record
Battle AXE - January 2, 2012
u never know
with charles back and our d improving . he might get us to 8-8
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
charles need to be careful, once you tore your ACL, it's more likely that you'll do it again
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
not necessarily
some people claim that that knee is even stronger. i have had friends tear their ACLS and be fine. But there always is a chance to tear it again , but that chance is probably the same as the knee that is healthy . i mean i believe Priest Holmes tore his in college. He had a dang good career in the pros.
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
Normally the ACL knee is stronger - however the risk is that the OTHER knee tears
Ren - January 2, 2012
Losing record? How many wins did we have last year? Oh
Cassel’s Pro Bowl self will be back. And with stability at OC and a Head Coach who isn’t crazy, expect another Pro Bowl season. Yep, I said it!
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
Why? Will the Pro Bowl invite Cassel again
after the selected QB’s decline the invitation?
neiowakcfan - January 2, 2012
lets get a real qb
So we can win games Cassel shouldn’t even be a option for starter next year
rickrock58 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
be nice if you could locate us a real QB
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
Hell, I've got three out in the tool box.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
RG3, Luck, peyton, bree, etc good luck getting them
We lack draft pick or fans don’t like them.
I say give stanzi or urban a chance
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
Sorry Boys
The man had 27 TDs and 7 INTs with a good OC. He’s coming back so deal with it.
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
no!!! those TD's were more the result of Bowe than Cassel
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
and got destroyed in the first playoff game
hes not terrible. But not good enough to get us where we want to be . the super bowl
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
Cassel won't even get us to the playoffs....Charles will though
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
seeing he can stay healthy
sure hope he does . I love that man . I also think we need to replace battle . he looked ok , but not that great
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
Playoffs
Reality is…once Charlie said he was leaving, Haley took over play calling. His schemes were horrible against what the defenses were giving us and play calling was worse. Cassel, like all QBs are only as good as the opportunities given them. He proved that.
Regarding athleticism, he is a much better runner than Orton and most. Hell, he ran for 230 yrds or something with the Pats.
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
only problem is
we are not the pats . i bet FLacko would look somewhat serviceable with the pats
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
other problem is that Cassel plays QB and not RB.
I doubt if we’re heading to a Donkey styled offense
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
point being he had on opportunity to play for the pats and he did good
he played for the chiefs this year and was good.
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
I think McDaniels likes Cassel too.
I’m really trying to prepare myself for that possibility
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
*opens the Grey Goose bottle
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
Yeah he had a pouting fit when Cassel went to KC when McD was at Den
Ren - January 2, 2012
McDaniels is a fraud
He sucked in ST. Louis because of it. His OC and QB coach put together his Offense in Denver, and he managed to mess that up too.
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
I wouldn't read into anything Orton said because he was ALWAYS politically correct in Denver
He was often called a Pro’s Pro in regards to how he handles his business. Even when most of the city was chanting “We want Tebow” he never said the wrong thing. It was amazing actually. I have a lot of respect for the guy.
Denver Chief - January 2, 2012
We don't want it to be his team dammit!
Smarten up Kyle.
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
Oh
Take a look at this video for a brief reminder of Cassel to Bowe. Don’t tell me the man can’t throw.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcm-dv1HaN8
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
LIES! Bowe threw that to himself and caught it himself. Your evidence is a LIE!
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
And then 2011 happened.
bossmanham - January 2, 2012
still looks like bowe doing most of the work
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
is martinz going into the draft? might as well pick him up
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
What?!!!
Take a look at that throw at the one minute mark of the video. Don’t tell me that throw isn’t a freaking dart.
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
it's not. That was bowe throwing the dart. Duh
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
Orton has thrown many darts also
doesn’t mean i want him
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
I really thought everyone was off the Cassel wagon...apparantly not...
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
a 2 minute highlight video doesnt really describe him as a QB .
it shows he has flashes . Which he does. But i bet you can find just as much if not more videos of his crap
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
27 TDs 7 Ints don't lie
So yes, I can find 7 videos of him underperforming and 27 of him kicking ass. Do the math.
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
TD INT ratio is a highly overrated stat.
Look at yards per attempt and total yards, and that tells you whether your QB is making a difference.
bossmanham - January 2, 2012
indeed. I love orton, high INT to low TD but boy do I love them yards
I could get 1000 yards in a game, give 6 int, and 1 td.
but boy them yards add up
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
OMG where's the gun...
Just look at him on game day, just look. I don’t need algebraic equations to determine CASSEL IS ASS!
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
Get off Cassel as an NFL QB. He's just not. They played an easy, last place schedule
and as soon as he got up against some good teams, he folded.
jcox31mc - January 2, 2012
if you think all 27 touchdowns are on him
start looking a some more Dbowe highlights . many touchdowns are on the people catching . and you know whats funny about the NFL , its a " what have you done for me lately " kinda thing , and cassel hasn’t done squat.
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
probably because he's been injured....
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
cassel is garbage
He can’t read his progressions throw accurately or throw deep. I seen enough of him we have expendable pieces draft picks to trade up for luck or rg3 and if not sign Orton he’s better than Cassel in every way or go out and get someone in free agency
rickrock58 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
yeah I hate when Cassel winds up, crow hops and underthrows the wr by 5 yards.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
and I don't think he threw to 8 different receiers over the course of the season
but he’s our guy!
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
strange, there's a QB like that in denver, and he's in the playoffs
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
i guess chiefs fan don't like the playoffs...
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
we were one (or two) blocked fgs from that not being the case.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
and they'll lose in the first round
i’m tired of not winning in the postseason, and it helps to have a good QB to do that.
nickpapagiorgio - January 2, 2012
I think our problem right not is getting to the postseason
just sayin
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
Progressions?
I love how people on this site throw the word progressions around. It’s become one of the cheesiest cliches on AP.
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
we don't throw it around when referencing Cassel...more the lack thereof
CHIEFFAN82 - January 2, 2012
Yet you never have an answer to the issue.
You’re so for Cassel, but you just dismiss what we all see as hampering his game.
He LOST games for us this year with his inability to stay poised in the pocket and pass to open receivers. Orton came on the team and in his first two games was able to do what Cassel wasn’t. I can’t tell you how done with Cassel I am.
bossmanham - January 2, 2012
Great
It doesn’t matter if you are done with Cassel. Because you don’t have any say about his future or the future of our Offense. If we keep Romeo, who the guys all love, get a dedicated OC for Cassel to work with…and THEN he sucks, then get rid of him. But he has had 5 freakin OCs in four years. Stability will make him another Pro Bowler. If he sucks, then move on. But almost all but 5 NFL’s teams fans actually like their QB. We may not have one of the elite 5, but he is above the median.
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
Soooo....
what you’re saying is that you REALLY REALLY REALLY like Matt Cassel…
Buck'O - January 2, 2012
BAM
You nailed it! But I am REALLY, REALLY, REALLY a Chiefs fan.
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
All I can say is that he's under contract and he's servicable
And I agree, he’ll be back next year. He’s smart, he’s tough and he works his ass off. When he has a good supporting cast he’s productive. I pray Pioli puts that in place for him next year because if he doesn’t, we’re going to see more of the bad side of Matt Cassel. A lousy arm and a screwed up psyche.
Buck'O - January 2, 2012
HA!HA!HA!
You nailed the perhaps second biggest thing wrong with Matty after this season I don’t think is FIXABLE now. That’s a good way of putting it, and you nailed it to the wall. I think Haley and all these different OC/QBC’s since 2009 REALLY put the zap to poor Matty’s head. Kinda sad in a way, really
You seem to be purty sharp … like a rascally ol’ Jack Russel. :+)LocoLoboChico - January 2, 2012
:) Thanks Loco
That’s my girl “Bean”
Buck'O - January 2, 2012
Orton's had a lot of OC's as well.
And in six weeks, he was able to do more with this team than Cassel did in three years.
bossmanham - January 2, 2012
Fixed
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
This.
bossmanham - January 2, 2012
Above the median???
What line are you using? NFL over Canadian league? If so, then yeah, Cassel is above the median.
Its time to move on from Cassel. The guy had regressed to once of the worst QBs in the league in less than one season. The excuses have to stop
RememberDelaney37 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
what made him a pro bowler was a bizarrely healthy team
winning close games on the back of an all-time great performance from a running back. without those things, Cassel wasn’t just bad, he was awful. Orton stepped in, had a few weeks with the playbook, second-team reps, and a bad finger, and completed passes to 10 different receivers.
nickpapagiorgio - January 2, 2012
What's wrong with using the word progressions?
It’s a pretty important part of a QBs game and one of the easiest things to pick up on as a fan while sitting at home and watching it on TV. We obviously don’t know the playcall etc but we can at least tell what the QB is and is not doing when it comes to progressions and mechanics.
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
Progressions
Because you don’t even know what the progressions on each play are supposed to be. First, you NEED time to go through progressions. Cassel was on the ground 14 times in three games before breaking his hand. Orton had tons of time in the games he played in. Our O line determines progressions. And both Cassel and Orton, hell, even Palko can when they have time.
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
You have got to be kidding me
Buck'O - January 2, 2012
One could argue that
Orton’s play action gave him the extra time he needed. We are a play action team with a strong running core when JC is in. Someone who sells that is going to be successful and buy themselves the time they need to go through the progressions. Maybe that is Orton, maybe not, but Cassel is not.
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
Didn't Cassel and Orton play behind the same oline?
And it doesn’t matter what the order of progression is really. I think what most people notice is that Orton actually goes through progressions whereas Cassel tends to lock in on one guy and will either force it or dump it off to his safety valve. In the end Orton was running the same plays, behind the same offensive line and did just fine. I think Orton’s pocket awareness and lack of happy feet helps him too.
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
Orton completed passes to 10 different receivers against Green Bay
behind the same shoddy line that receives the blame when Cassel fails.
nickpapagiorgio - January 2, 2012
I still don't understand why everybody thinks luck will be their savior
he sounds like ryan leaf
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
id rather RGIII honestly
but i still think luck will be pretty good
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
I think RGIII is the epitome of roll the dice.
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
Pretty much, 50% chance of bust, 45% chance of some success, 5% chance of above average play.
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
I keep hearing that he could find success because Cam Newton did.
But unless the kid grows five inches and puts on 50 lbs he isn’t going to be running the ball in the NFL. And if he does he’s going to end up a poormans Michael Vick.
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
RGIII
is a different animal then Cam, or Vick
He has some acuracy issues, but he tends to make good decissions, and can make plays with his feet, like Cam he looks down field to throw, and runs only when he has to. The down side to RGIII is in his acuracy, and his size, he takes a lot of hits and he will be out of the games a lot, much like Vick is.
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
how dare you, we all know genericbrand is gay for orton. let him have his orton
and let the chiefs have another losing season
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
What's with all the homosexual slurs?
Does it help prove your point?
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
Just so were clear
I’m higher on keeping Orton then I am losing the 3 draft picks it would take to get to RGIII.
But I operate as a realist most of the time.
Luck is the only real bet in this draft, all others are crap shoots, and even luck is a crap shoot.
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
accuracy issues? are you serious?
he completed 72.4% of his passes this season. in his worst season accuracy-wise (when he was a true freshman), he completed 59% of his passes—better than Vick’s best year, and just below Peyton Manning’s senior year.
nickpapagiorgio - January 2, 2012
yep, Accuracy in college is sometime helpped by
The supporting cast.
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
so when Vick went to the title game and had worse numbers
than Griffin as a true freshman, Griffin had the better supporting cast?
when Newton won the national title with a worse completion percentage, Griffin had the better supporting cast?
nickpapagiorgio - January 2, 2012
I don't look at numbers when I watch game tape
I look at where the QB puts the ball, Newton is also known for accuracy issues, and he has gotten better.
the fact that he can run, the threat of that will also allow a QB to make more completions.
But when I look at Game tape, look at the foot work of the QB, presence of mind, decision making, and where he puts the ball. That is what will count in the pro’s. As well as athletic ability. Look at Nick Foles game tape, and you will see a good example of what I’m talking about. Guy completes a lot of passes, but will be a project in the pro’s.
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
how much do you discount a passer's efficiency
or completion percentage due to his ability to run?
nickpapagiorgio - January 2, 2012
lol, Leaf?
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
that earns you a
C’MON MAN!
thegrisdaddy - January 2, 2012
seriously, look at luck. He's supposed to be the perfect QB
and he got beat by RG3
when he’s winning, he’s happy
when he’s losing, he throws a tantrum and start sucking
reminds you of a certain someone?
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
He got beat by RG3?
And if you’re referring to Rivers, I think just about any Chiefs fan would be happy to have Rivers.
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
yes luck> rg3
that’s why luck won the Heisman…oh wait
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
The Heisman trophy holds about as much water as a Pro Bowl invite.
I guess by that logic Charles Woodson> Peyton Manning? And actually Woodson is probably the last elite NFL to actually win the award. 14 years ago.
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
yes luck is go great, that's why stanford was undefeated
oh wait
luck is so great because he can throw the ball more yards than anybody else..oh wait
luck is so great that he has the greatest td to int..oh wait
luck is so great that stanford is #1 in the nation..oh wait
yep luck is our savior. Thank god for luck
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
but I guess you'll say that's stupid.
I mean who wants a drew brees, manning, or brady
we have a luck
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
You RG3 fanboys crack me up.
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
and you luck fanboys are getting pure homo
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
I'm not a Luck fanboy by any stretch.
Was just curious where RG3 beat Luck.
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
hmm, passing, rushing, TD to int ratio, knowing offense, bring your game back from a 30 points difference
knowing how to not get sack, how to stand in the pocket and when not to, etc
but those aren’t facts. I guess you’re a luck or orton fan. Those don’t matter to you.
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
I'll bet on draft day RG3 doesn't beat Luck.
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
and watch luck get his ass pounded
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
How about the wins?
How about physical attributes? How about health? Yeah, pretty important aspects there you are conveniently ignoring
RememberDelaney37 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
+level of competition +pro style offense
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
if he was so competitve then why did he start sucking by the end of the season?
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
Level of competition means he played better teams in his career
Which is debatable, but that is the definition
RememberDelaney37 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
so basically you can take a bunch of rookies, make them play rank #1-10
and they’re automatically an elite like luck?
you people are hilarious
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
And where do you get that he started sucking at the end of the year?
They lost one game, to Oregon. Luck has been great all year and still is going into their BCS bowl game
RememberDelaney37 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
He did suck against Oregon apparently
27/41 257 3TDs 2Ints is brutal. He’s no Cassel.
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
When did he start sucking?
You keep saying it but I don’t see where he was sucking. Against #7 ranked Oregon? Maybe we have a different definition of “suck”.
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
look at his yards, TD, and int at the beginning of the season
compare them to his latter part of the season, it starts to decline
compare RG3 during the first half to the 2nd half, steady increase
that’s my part of “suck”
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
Put it together, sport
He didn’t play any ranked opponents until the last 6 games of the season. And beat all but one of them. I’m a big RG3 fan, but you would have to be pretty silly to take the odds that he is a better pro QB than Luck
RememberDelaney37 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Harbaugh trained
I think He will be a hell of a pro, good decision making, good feet work, uncanny accuracy, he is as sure as Eli, Rivers and Rothesburger in 2004.
Kellen Moore is the other, IMO He will be the biggest steel of the draft.
There isn’t a more accurate QB in college today, the guy will be a pro.
I watch 2 hours of game tape on every QB in the top 10 of the draft, he is crazy good.. Watch one play he was being chased down hard running to the sidelines to left, at the last second made a 15 yard throw that floated perfectlly slightly back to the right over the right side of the wr’s shoulder, had it been on the left side the Wr would have step out of bounds, but instead picked up about another 15 yards.
Maybe 2 or 3 QB’s in the nfl that might have been able to make that throw at full speed, given the physics of it.
Good under center and dropping back, and has a throw that gets over the line and on target down the middle despite his shortness.
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
steal that is.
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
Sounds like Ricky Stanzi.
bossmanham - January 2, 2012
yes who else had physical attributes, health? oh yea ryan leaf
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
Peyton Manning did too
RememberDelaney37 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
i'd love to have either Luck or Griffin
so this conversation just depresses me.
nickpapagiorgio - January 2, 2012
Wrong.
Totally NO on Rivers. Stay in Sad Diego, stay with Norv Turner, stay the under-achiever.
neiowakcfan - January 2, 2012
hey
Whatever guy can play understand offense make all the throws quick decision maker and finds the open guy on a Stanford team with not outstanding weapons with the chiefs and upgraded team would be nice any good qb next year the chiefs get will be smiling at the weapons we got
rickrock58 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
so...we should hire manning?
Chiefshero - January 2, 2012
if he is available
And healthy hell yeah even flynn. I would give a chance as long as it is not Cassel .id take flynn,Orton, manning, luck,rg3, casey keenum. Or stanzi and be happy to see a new person under center with this offense
rickrock58 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
i like
What im seeing from keenum lighting up penn st too
rickrock58 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
My first reaction when I read Orton's quote on this being "HIS (Cassel's team)"
F*U*C*C* ME
Pioli can have drafted everything right but admitting fault with hiring of Haley was a breath of fresh air and then when I read Orton’s response to returning – it being Cassel’s team, it tells me he and Pioli probably already had a talk about the HONEST future – For everything that Pioli have gotten right, Matt Cassel is and will forever be his achilles heal if he doesn’t snap of out this shyttt.
58 was my friend - January 2, 2012
CAN SOMEONE start a PETITION on CHANGE.ORG to trade Cassel - Address to Scott Pioli or Clark Hunt
58 was my friend - January 2, 2012
You can''t?
bossmanham - January 2, 2012
LOL
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
Haha!
Buck'O - January 2, 2012
Maybe I should or WE MUST
58 was my friend - January 2, 2012
I'll sign it.
bossmanham - January 2, 2012
so will I
Buck'O - January 2, 2012
There's gotta be a way to VOICE what we - the die hard loyal fans of KC Chiefs see in Matt Cassel
Maybe Scott knows it but we need to let Clark Hunt see what we fans think of MC
58 was my friend - January 2, 2012
Seriously, I would start one but my address is not in Kansas City thus it wouldn't hold much weight
Obviously, KC Chiefs as an organization cares more if it came from a local address – season ticket holder etc.
58 was my friend - January 2, 2012
Excuses are a dime a dozen.
Excuses
Bigcherokeechief - January 2, 2012
Alshon Jeffery is riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiidiculous
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
One of the best Hail Mary efforts I've ever seen.
GenericBrand - January 2, 2012
Tyler Palko's been through enough this year
take it easy on him.
nickpapagiorgio - January 2, 2012
What about
Picking up Flynn in free agency? You know the guy that just blew up a franchise record with the 2nd string squad in GB?
Forever58 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
We will be fine
Look Caasel is staying ,Orton is out and thats ok both are pretty much the same QB who knows how Cassel will be with a new OC he looked pretty good when Charlie was here and and would not let Todd change his plays, so everybody calm down and we will win the West next season as long as we dont have the injury bug hit us like ths year.
ChiefsfaninFlorida - January 2, 2012
Is that Hue Juackson?
“this team will be just fine…”
neiowakcfan - January 2, 2012
Sanity has just spoken. Nice.
SullyWA2 - January 2, 2012
I believe and want him to comeback
‘Cause if he dont comeback i dont think that Pioli will draft a QB, he will stuck with Cassel, i think that no potential franchise QB will fall to the 11 or 12 pick so that’s why Piolo will stuck with Cassel.
kaiser1118 - January 2, 2012
Cassel / Orton
Everybody here needs to relax and take a deep breath. Anyone who thinks Cassel is the man for the job is wrong. Anyone who thinks Orton is the man is also wrong. Matt Cassel has proven to be a serviceable QB.. He doesn’t read defenses very well nor does he look off his recievers very well and it shows in his numbers. With KC he has never had a QB rating higher than 93 for a season, his completion % has never broken 60 for a season. His best year wih KC was 2010.. 58% CP, 93 rating 3116 yds passing.. As I said, serviceable at best. He will NOT get this team to a SB unless he has an offense loaded with talent as he had in NE and they didn’t make the playoffs in 08’.. Kyle Orton’s number aren’t even as good as Cassel’s career wise however he has the intangibles that make him a better QB than Cassel. He has a stronger arm, scans the field better, reads defenses better. His numbers in Denver weren’t bad at all. Just observing the play between these two QB’s tells you that Orton looks and plays more like a QB than Cassel does. Orton is fluid, Cassel is not. If it were up to me I would keep them both for this coming year. Let the best man win the starting job, dump palko and take a real close look at Stanzi. This kid has alot of promise and I would start getting him more involved.
