The one good part of the Kansas City Chiefs losing several key players to season-ending injuries is that it happened early in the season. LB Brandon Siler tore his Achilles' in training camp, Tony Moeaki tore his ACL in the final preseason game, Eric Berry tore his ACL in the first game and Jamaal Charles tore his ACL in the second game.
Because those injuries happened early, all those players are expected to be ready for the 2012 season. In fact, they should be ready by this summer.
610 Sports' Danny Parkins spoke with Moeaki on Monday and he said that he, Berry and Charles are all on the same recovery timetable and should be ready for OTAs this summer. Charles previously indicated he should be ready to roll for OTAs so this isn't a surprise but still good to hear.
The Chiefs could be in a position like the one Adrian Peterson finds himself where he may miss the start of 2012 because his injury came in Week 16 and not Week 1 or 2.
So if there's one good thing to take away from the Chiefs 2011 season it's that they'll be significantly better next year when the injured players return.

This is why we go for FRONT LINE talent and depth both on the offensive and defensive lines. Keep Cassel, pick a QB in the later rounds to develop and we will take the AFC West next year.
That is if Romeo gets the HC job and D coordinator and we bring in a QUALITY OC.

Matt Cassel?
Really?
I think you are in the minority with that take, but that could just be me.
Chief-blinders-on - January 2, 2012
He is in the minority.
No one likes Cassel here, except for a few
NJChieffan16 - January 2, 2012
I didnt know anyone like Cassel
Huston09 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Matt will be a good backup
and he had a good year in 2010, but he was exposed this season…
I don’t want a ball control QB in Kansas City anymore. Air it out!
Chief-blinders-on - January 2, 2012
Only one that matters is Pioli
and pretty sure the thinks he is good… Sucks for us!
KSU-Chief - January 2, 2012
maybe
but he also may be more worried about keeping his job . i mean he DID get two Qbs this last year in stanzi and Orton , granted there was injury , but still went after others.
chiefsman! - January 2, 2012
Kenny Powers likes Cassel
SayHeyWerd - January 6, 2012
I agree with the front line talent part.
I think the Chiefs should sign both QBs and develop Stanzi. Who are you going to draft in the later rounds thats a upgrade over Stanzi? IMHO there’s only 2 guys in this years draft that would be, and we’re not getting them. The other option would be to keep one either Cassel or Orton and try for M.Flynn.

matt cassel?
SDChief - January 3, 2012
Only silver lining is that they happened so early
Eric Berry said he was running around pretty good already
RamX21 - January 2, 2012
Don't forget about Gabe Miller
Chief-blinders-on - January 2, 2012
and Siler
Getting healthy instantly improves the depth and playmaking ability on this team.
A couple of good FAs and a decent draft, and I think this roster looks STACKED
stagdsp - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Agreed Stags...
The Chiefs have a lot of work to do, they need to find a way to maximize success out of the positive changes that they make this season.
They have a great opportunity coming up and I hope they don’t screw the pooch.
Chief-blinders-on - January 2, 2012
Whos Gabe Miller?
Ren - January 2, 2012
I think we drafted him in the 4th
maybe 5th
RamX21 - January 2, 2012
Gabe Miller
Profile mothership
Chief-blinders-on - January 2, 2012
I see thx
Ren - January 2, 2012
No problem...
He was a questionable pick at 140, but was showing promise before his injury…
Chief-blinders-on - January 2, 2012
Agreed
He was the pick that I went “who?” on more than any of them, but he showed some nice potential before he went down.

Arenas??
Maybe I missed one somewhere… but has anyone seen/heard an update on how serious the injury was to Arenas yesterday?
jm_chiefs - January 2, 2012
I'd like to know as well...
I have been looking, but have yet to find anything on it. I guess that means it isn’t serious.
When it first happened, I thought it was just a cramp because I didn’t see anything that would cause an injury.

A good 10 months of recovery time will bode well for the knees
The ankle is a bit harder to come right back from this quickly though. But his extension hopefully is a good sign he is recovering well
RememberDelaney37 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
Speaking of ACLs - Mendenhall is out as of now
Speaking of making it back by 2012…
Ren - January 2, 2012
In general knees take 18-24 months to get back to 100% for athletes.
So they may be back on time but there’s a good possibility they won’t be the same player until late in the year or the following season. The good thing is rehab process for a knee actually will probably put them in better physical shape then they were before the injury.

acl tear recovery
I’ve read an interview with a former NFL player who talked about his recovery. He said it took him two years to get back to where he was before the injury. But he was a bigger guy, about 240 lbs. He said the lighter the player, the quicker he can get back to pre-injury form. That’s because the knee ligament is less stressed because of the lighter weight.
So based on this, Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry might be in a better spot than Moeki.
Wes Welker, who tore his ACL and MCL in the final game of the 2009 season, caught 86 receptions for 848 yards. That’s a nice rebound from a guy who some thought wouldnt play in 2010 at all.
Welker is a smaller guy who relies on cutting and pivotiing.
Let’s hope these guys return to their pre-injury form.
michaelaglover - January 2, 2012
welker
but this year, wes welker has 122 receptions for more than 1500 yards. so it might take two years for these chiefs players.
michaelaglover - January 2, 2012
went to my first live chiefs game yesterday
it was alot of fun..good to see the boys pull out the double you..with that said i really like russel wilson what round is he expected to go in ? i would love RG3 but realistically i doubt it happens..thoughts?
arrowheadsoldier56 - January 2, 2012 via Android app
Wilson will go late because of size concerns.
He might measure in under 6’ at the combine.
polodude017 - January 2, 2012
also
i believe we have a very talented core group of players..our offdnse could be unstoppable with a legit qb..dmc charles bowe moeaki baldwin and breaston tell me that isnt a talented lineup
arrowheadsoldier56 - January 2, 2012 via Android app
Matt Flynn anyone?
Pioli dies love picking up backups!
Quinten182 - January 2, 2012 via mobile
