Recently, NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reported via league sources that Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Bill Muir was "likely" to retire.
It's now been three weeks since La Canfora's report and there has not been any other news on the status of Muir. He's still on the coaching staff, as far as I know. At least the Chiefs haven't made any announcements about his status.
The KC Star's Adam Teicher told Bob Fescoe and Josh Klingler on 610 Sports Friday morning that he would be surprised if Muir was the Chiefs coordinator next season.
"I'd be surprised, certainly, if he were part of the staff of coordinators at least," Teicher said. "That would really surprise me. I think they're definitely going to be going outside to find their coordinator. Will he be part of the staff? I doubt it. But it's certainly possible."
Romeo Crennel and the Chiefs coaching staff spent part of this week dealing with the East-West Shrine game on Saturday and they'll be en route to Mobile, Alabama for the Senior Bowl next week. I suspect they'll be interviewing guys there and keeping an eye on which teams are eliminated from the playoffs this weekend if they have a target there as well.

Throw ArrowDread on that list
One hell of a playcaller in Tecmo Bowl
ArrowDread - January 20, 2012
Madden playbook is bigger and better
Tecmo Bowl playbook was like Haleys playbook, that’s why everyone figured it out.
KingChief - January 20, 2012
Hey, no matter what play you call....
Jamaal Charles can take it to the hourse in Tecmo 2012! (Though he tends to fumble)
Adrian Petersen is the new Bo Jackson in that game.
Funny enough, they have McClain as our 2nd RB and he is like a baby Okoye! Only like a 92 for hitting power instead of 99.

UNIPanther - January 20, 2012
I don’t think running backwards and setting up the 100+ yard hail mary is a very reliable offense….
Another Successful Tedford QB - January 20, 2012
WHAT?
What about having Bo Jackson run backward to the 1 yard line, then break about 30 tackles going 99 yards for the TD? Surely that works
jmcgoblue - January 20, 2012
I’m down but is Bo available?
Another Successful Tedford QB - January 20, 2012
Only Bo knows.
Tarkus - January 20, 2012
Kevin Gilbride
Huge talent. I believe he’ll leave if the Giants lose this weekend. Offense always in the top 10. Yes the same guy that got puched by Buddy Ryan.
Al H - January 20, 2012
No news is
no news.
Tarkus - January 20, 2012
This is almost as bad as saying:
“it is what it is.”

No news is
Bad news
Hoochdawg - January 20, 2012
How so?
News that Muir has been retained would be bad news.
Tarkus - January 20, 2012
True
IDK I guess I just feel that the longer it takes, the more were just settling for less… could be a playoff team though.
Hoochdawg - January 20, 2012
^ could be on a playoff team.
Hoochdawg - January 20, 2012
What coordinators have we missed out on
that you regret?
Tarkus - January 20, 2012
None actually
like I said , it’s just a feeling. didn’t mean to start anything.
Hoochdawg - January 20, 2012
Me neither.
I just thought maybe you had someone in mind.
Tarkus - January 20, 2012
Currently.... he IS the OC.
That would qualify under your statement, Tarkus.
Falcon58 - January 20, 2012
Touche
Tarkus - January 20, 2012
I don't have a problem with Muir.
I think he’s been a good coach, right along. I’m not sure why people are so down on the guy, other than he’s old. He’s never had all that much authority, the times he was called an OC. Chucky controlled the playcalling, as did Haley.
hmills110 - January 20, 2012
Or olds.
Brsrkr - January 20, 2012
As I continue to sit in front of this screen on Arrowhead Pride.
The Chiefs will be responsible for many problems in my life.
bossmanham - January 20, 2012
I'd like Crazy Hue, though I don't think the brass will even consider him.
I bet it’s a position coach from a playoff team.
reedeasy - January 20, 2012
That would bring some fire to the Chiefs Raiders rivalry
and our guys need that
KingChief - January 20, 2012
agree, id hire him for that reason, and i guess if we have cassel, hue would help there too
really, whoever comes in, needs to come with a quality up and coming qb coach
SDChief - January 20, 2012
Why wouldn't we consider him? His only screw-ups were GM type stuff, and none of that was worse that what McD pulled.
Brsrkr - January 20, 2012
What are you waiting for Muir?
Waiting for Weigs to retire?
ravenhawk - January 20, 2012
Staying on for off-season stuff? Feedback from the offensive side to the scouting staff?
Brsrkr - January 20, 2012
Perhaps it will be one of the coaches who are in the playoffs,
which is why it’s all silent. Perhaps.
quickwit - January 20, 2012
i would. love. to bring in Caldwell with hopes it would make us an attractive option for pey pey
IPWT2009 - January 20, 2012 via mobile
And if Peyton didnt come?
Then what? We stuck we an O-coord who was nothing more than a figurehead when Peyton was on the field.
NJChieffan16 - January 20, 2012
with an*
NJChieffan16 - January 20, 2012
and if Peyton does come?
we made the right call
IPWT2009 - January 20, 2012
Guess it goes both ways
We have reached an impasse lol

Promote Weigs to OL Coach.

one good good thing about the lack of news...
We have plenty of time to argue about Chiefs in the national anthem again… YaY!!! :(

NO UPS...
Its so much fun to spin little kids around by there pigtails… LoL
Akr_Baby - January 20, 2012
imo, romeo was always the hire, hence bringing in who they did for interviews
once they locked him down, they went out and picked their top OC candidate, have most likely contacted him, and have a verbal deal in place. illegal, sure, but i think they already have someone, just not officially
wish i knew who it was, but with the del rio head coach interview(4-3 D), im not so sure i want to know who they think can run the offense
SDChief - January 20, 2012
I just think we need to hit a home run
with whoever we hire as OC. That is about as essential to this team’s success as the draft in my opinion.
bamachief5558 - January 20, 2012 via mobile
Tony LaRussa?
upamtn - January 20, 2012
Albert Pujols.
Tarkus - January 20, 2012
Anyone but Muir
I think if we replace Muir, we will be ahead of the game. But like all the other post who is there to choose from. Al Saunders would be good but I don’t think he’ll come back after how we let him go years back. Plus I think he has lost a step as a coordinator. One name that nobody has mentioned is Kevin Gilbride. Current OC of the NY Giants. I think he is in the last year of contract. If they lose against the niners this week, he becomes a scap goat and may leave as he has been there for 5 + years. He has always been an ofensive mind and has taught E Manning well since his early years. He is always ridiculed in the NY media and he may want to leave for greener pastures. KC has the pieces on offense and he can take credit for their future success if they win. KC must up his pay however to at least get him to listen.
Al H - January 20, 2012
Are there any hotshot college coaches that want an OC position in the NFL?
EHJ0815 - January 20, 2012
They all got hired his year
Norm Chow-Hawaii, Paul Chryst- Pitt and David Shaw-Stanford..These were all the top offensive minds coming into this year, but they all signed as head coaches for those college schools. The other coach who has upcoming talent is the Boise St coach who I forget his name.
Al H - January 20, 2012
Chris Petersen
Not a terrible idea…
EHJ0815 - January 20, 2012
Looks like it's gonna be tought to pry him outta Idaho.
I think he’s turned down at least two high profile jobs already.
Brsrkr - January 20, 2012
Mike Sherman
KingChief - January 20, 2012
What's the chance that happens?
He is clearly the “anti-Muir.”
EHJ0815 - January 20, 2012
He did get canned at Texas A&M and doesn't have a job at the moment
KingChief - January 20, 2012
hmm...
… imma look him up.
Pacific Chief - January 20, 2012
He was AWFUL at A&M
Had probably the best running game in the B12, hands down…and never used it. EVER. He would be shredding people on the ground and then, amazingly, he’d start flinging it around the yard, get picked, other team scores, now down 10 pts, time to throw 50 times!
Cyrus Gray and Christine Michael were amazing backs and the the freshman behind them was good too. They would rip off 200 yards rushing very easily, but Sherman seemed unwilling to commit to the run.
No thanks on Sherman. Pass.
SCKSChief - January 22, 2012
wait, lemme see if I have this straight ...
the NEWS is that nothing has happened …
and that’s it? come on, really … there’s more, there has to be more, right? it’s ok, Joel … you can tell us, we’re all fans here
upamtn - January 20, 2012
This news was no news so how can we call it news? Who wudda new? Is it worthy?
Mr.Pibbs - January 20, 2012
Brian billick
We’re just waiting for the season to end so he can finish up with nfl network. At least I hope that’s the case
trentchiefsfan - January 20, 2012
I doubt very much if he'd take another OC gig.
Tarkus - January 20, 2012
He's been out a while.
Teams may be hesitant to straight up hand over the team to him
trentchiefsfan - January 20, 2012
He has a much better resume than Fisher.
And everyone was going all gaga over him. Cowher has been out even longer than Billick. You think he’d have a problem getting a HC job?
Tarkus - January 20, 2012
OC or bust
The Chiefs need to move on this quickly for two big reasons. First getting the new offense installed and therefore knowing how to draft. Second the list of talent is thinning. I really like Daboll and he has the necessary pedigree along with the fact that he is still young.
