Phil Emery, the Kansas City Chiefs director of college scouting, is among a handful of candidates for the Chicago Bears GM job. In fact, a few people say he's the favorite right now.
So how does Chiefs GM Scott Pioli feel about this? He could lose his college scouting director. The Chiefs GM was quoted by the Chicago Tribune with some glowing praise for Emery.
"He's one of the hardest workers I've ever been around," Chiefs general manger Scott Pioli said. "I can't overemphasize the hard working part. He's outstanding at his job. Detailed, meticulous, organized."
Check out the rest of the story here.
On the one hand, Piol probably doesn't want to lose someone on his staff, especially someone at the director-level. On the other hand, he obviously realizes the best thing to do is help others advance their career.
Sounds like the Bears aren't going to interview anymore candidates so we could hear a decision -- whether it's Emery or not -- sometime soon.

These are clearly knocks on Emery:
After all, that’s why Pioli is such a monster.

goodbye
looks like this guy is leaving. not a big loss considering the last three drafts with this guy part of the brains hasn’t been overwhelming besides eric berry.
michaelaglover - January 21, 2012
Another Pioli hater living in denial.
Last two drafts have been pretty solid.
bossmanham - January 21, 2012 via mobile
Some people expect every draft pick to be pro bowlers every single year of their career.
chiefFANatic - January 21, 2012 via mobile
Lol
That’s why every other team has perfect drafts.
Oh wait……
bossmanham - January 21, 2012
I dont see what is unreasonable about expecting perfection from fallible beings
nateforchiefs - January 21, 2012 via mobile
But... but... I can make it happen in Madden!
and 90% of my draft picks become starters
and I’m always under cap
and my fans love me cause I go undefeated every season!

My conspiracy theory for the day:
Pioli is praising Emery because he WANTS him gone and doesn’t want to pay severance. From there, we’ll see Bill Muir inexplicably hired as our new director of college scouting.
shudder
independent739 - January 21, 2012
Im gonna have nightmares now
Thanks a lot man. I see 2 seasons of 0-16 in our future
NJChieffan16 - January 21, 2012
This just means that in three years, the Bears will have an article called Stress at Soldier Field!
Bum bbuuummmmmmm!
bossmanham - January 21, 2012
Its a set up...
Pioli wants Emery to get hired so he can tap all there phones and we will know what there offseason plans are… 1 team at a time. LoL
Akr_Baby - January 21, 2012
OMG!!
It’s genius, and so obviously true because it fits in with my preconceived idea about the whole story so well. And I like spy novels.

Akr_Baby - January 21, 2012
Why wouldn't the Chiefs go after Brian Shottenheimer!
Seems like a quality hire considering what we currently have in place.
Dminkc - January 21, 2012
What about him makes you think of quality?
Tarkus - January 21, 2012
Look at how good Mark Sanchez and Shonne Greene are...
Oh wait, nevermind…
nateforchiefs - January 21, 2012 via mobile
What's he going to say?
“Yeah, the guy is a horrible worker and is completely worthless to this organization. But he did pick up candy wrappers w/o being told. That’s why we made him the director of scouting.”
brinkdaddy - January 21, 2012
I think were going to see less production out of our late picks if this guy is gone.
but our tree will grow. ATL, NE, now TB
