The Baltimore Ravens will be visiting Foxboro to play the New England Patriots in the 2012 AFC Championship game at 2:00 p.m. (Arrowhead Time) today. The Patriots of course are the AFC's No. 1 seed playing the Ravens who is the No. 2 seed. Exactly the way the seeding said it would be.
This is a classic game of a great defense against a great offense. The Ravens and Patriots have both been in this position multiple times in the last decade so I'm really looking forward to this one. I think the Super Bowl winner is going to come from the AFC (and I'm picking the Patriots to win this game so...).
The game is on CBS. Early thoughts?

Pats > Ravens
I guess
ArrowheadHunter - January 22, 2012
Ravens need to slap them in the mouf!
It is time to expose the Patriots.
Brian Baldinger actually referred to the Patriots “spread” offense. Criminy, the level of ignorance at the paid “analyst” level on big time TV is amazing. They run a two TE set, fercrissakes. It’s not the friggin’ Thigbone.
Go Ravens!
neiowakcfan - January 22, 2012
rich baldinger played for kc right
or did both of them play for kc

I doubt it gets that out of hand lol
but I do think Brady is going to go show Baltimore that he’s Tom-motherf***in’-Brady.

What, from his back?
Flacco’s 3 & out looked better than Brady’s.

Pats won. It may not have

G.L. - January 23, 2012
Defense has been the consistent in post-season history
everyone had SF pegged as going down last week and they managed to overcome the juggernaut that is Drew Brees. In the case of Tom Brady and the Patriots thoiugh, I think the experience gives them the advantage over the Ravens.
Plus I think Ed Reed made a foolish mistake trying to “motivate” his QB through the media this week, so lack of a unified front also gives the Pats the edge here.
Patriots 35 Ravens 17

SF defense didn't really win that game
It turned into a shoot out

ArrowheadHunter - January 22, 2012
Ravens 31 - Patriots 26
- Ray Lewis will pick off Tom Brady
- Ed Reed will force a fumble
- Rob Gronkowski will be the only New England receiver with a TD
- New England running game will almost be a non-factor

Now that I have it on forum, it will all be reversed.

Well eventually the Chiefs are going to have to make some moves
It has to come from somewhere right?
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
I think on defense we just promote Gibbs
But then we need a new LB coach.
GenericBrand - January 22, 2012
I'm not a huge fan of the in house promotion options.
I would rather have a new perspective come in.
I can’t get past all the blowouts this season and they definitely need huge changes on offense IMO.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Look at how much time they spent on the field during those blowouts though.
How many three and outs. How many times the offense did nothing. I’m not worried about the blowouts because there was reason for them for the most part. With our DC we’re going to be limited to guys who are willing to run Romeo’s defense so it only makes sense to promote from within and someone who already knows the system. Your new blood can come in the form of another assistant at whatever hole opens up.
GenericBrand - January 22, 2012
I'm all for continuity on defense
but too much can lead to no improvement and in terms of game planning. This defense needs to improve.
Early in the season they were out hustled, and over matched. With the type of offense the Chiefs employ they need a defense that can stay on the field and not give up 30+ points.
Two of those last three games were against the AFC West and I think that can skew our opinions of how good this defense is or can be. The Packers game was an emotional victory and I just don’t want this team going into next year thinking that will be enough to improve, because IMO it simply won’t be enough.
I’m all for Romeo Crennel running this defense, I just want a new coach for him to bounce ideas off of and someone that can sit in the film room and help figure things out before games. They were struggling doing that with Romeo as DC, if he is promoted to HC and everyone moves up a rung, I don’t see how that improves.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
But what DC is going to want to come in and run someone elses defense and not even have playcalling duty?
GenericBrand - January 22, 2012
At the same time... promoting a guy just to promote him
makes no sense.
Your question is why Scott Pioli makes the big bucks and I want them to find a match.
Bill Belichick has had no problem finding defensive puppets. Nor has McCarthy or Payton on offense. It can be done and there are some good names out there.
I’m only saying that I am firmly against status quo for this team. It needs some change.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Even your idea of potentially Pepper Johnson
would be a strong addition, though I am also concerned about where this offense is going to head.

In all seriousness the Raiders do have an opportunity to move forward

It should be fun to watch what they do. Reggie is a good hire for them and his first Coach will probably find some success out there with the Raiders willingness to spend money if the decisions are better.
That Carson Palmer trade was brutal though.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012

But we don't really know if the dysfucntion will continue...
You can easily argue that the firing of Hue Jackson was to get rid of dysfunction.
averagegatsby - January 22, 2012
You could also easily argue that the dysfunction
starts with Mark Davis, Amy Trask and goes all the way down to the waterboy and overflows into the fans drinking carnage in the black hole.
Oakland will be a slow turn around and it needs to be done right.
Is Marty Mornhinweg doing it right? Personally, I don’t think so… it would be more questionable than Mike Mularkey in Jacksonville IMO.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
I dunno...
Mornhinweg is suppose to be a borderline offensive genius. He’s been working under Reid, and its not like Oakland doesn’t have offensive weapons, and a stout defense. I think the draft picks hurt Oakland more 2-3 years from now more than it hurts now.
averagegatsby - January 22, 2012
The only problem is that Andy Reid won't actually be there
Now, if they hire Andy Reid… maybe they will get somewhere.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
I dunno.
Im just not going to make assumptions on a new group because the old group was bad. Not saying that McKinzie will work out because he is from Green Bay, but he has definitely seen one way to do it right.

Reggie scares me and if he believes in Marty

Braun is a German company...
not that German companies don’t sponsor things in America, and Gillette is based out of Boston
averagegatsby - January 22, 2012
funny the things some of us remember and the important shit we forget. lol
I bet you didnt get the milk your ole lady told you to get on your way home but remembered braun was a german made company.
the great thunderlips - January 22, 2012
I did a semester in Germany...
And I bet I could tell you where all the big manufacturing companies are based out of. Not near enough of them are based out of America. As an Engineering major, I make it a point to know what manufacturing companies are American, and who are hiring, and where I could go if I worked for them.
averagegatsby - January 22, 2012
thats cool. maybe its just me then that remembers dumb shit but forgets important shit.
the great thunderlips - January 22, 2012
Oh Im the same way...
I just think its important to know what companies are American.

But Jonathan Baldwin has a bright future.
The Chiefs needs a baller wide receivers coach. These guys learned a lot from Haley, now someone needs to fine tune that info.

Nah
Sabby can actually tackle.
He just can’t cover…
cheapham - January 22, 2012
A kinder/gentler version.

pollard is a hard hitter always was, he had zack miller so scared of getting hit all day when he was on oakland he didnt even try to catch the ball toward the end of the game out of fear of getting blown up.
the great thunderlips - January 22, 2012
lol
I’m referring to the tandem of Lewis and Berry. Of course Pollard is better than a 3rd/4th string guy. So what?

because he's the QB and QBs can't be tackled

BeauJackson - January 22, 2012

cheapham - January 22, 2012
I fail to see any logic in that.

bonesjackson - January 22, 2012
odd decision
BeauJackson - January 22, 2012
ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNND
the pats going to the SB
Chiefshero - January 22, 2012
Good chance. Still, they're gonna be reluctant to put it in the air, which might give the D a quick 3-and-out.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
Or they'll just pass it immediately
I thought you were right…That’s the Pats for you thoguh.
cheapham - January 22, 2012
I was wrong. But when they ran on 2nd, the Ravens were loaded for it.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
Vince Wilfork
kinda sucks
fongKC - January 22, 2012
Vince Wilfork is a man amongst boys out there.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Wilfork is such a beast
We really need a legit NT.
cheapham - January 22, 2012
I don't get not going for the 51 yard field goal. Is it really windy?
saskwatch - January 22, 2012
Wind at their backs. Still, I can understand not wanting to pin your hopes on a 51-yarder.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
cundiff 1-6 this season from 50+
BeauJackson - January 22, 2012
So much for reluctance to pass.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
no wonder his name is joe failure
Chiefshero - January 22, 2012
That last play is hard to pin down on flacco. The center got OWNED.
Though the INT was pretty rough.
cheapham - January 22, 2012
Wish Haley wouldve meshed better with the players
Pollard looks good next to Berry & Lewis…
ChiefWarPaint - January 22, 2012

Chiefs86 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
Looks like Waters will finally make it to the SuperBowl.
ravenhawk - January 22, 2012
Lets hope the 49ers win
PackFan235 - January 22, 2012
I was hoping for a 49ers/Ravens game...
but expecting a Giants/Patriots game. Really I just wanted anyone but the Patriots(it would be nice to have some new blood in there).
ravenhawk - January 22, 2012

Idahochief - January 22, 2012
That was awkward between Kraft and Bledsoe
Wasn’t expecting to see guys kiss On the cheek, manhugs are good enough lol
Chiefs86 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
About the only thing wrong I saw was not bouncing Flacco outside more often.
Wilfork was crushing pocket, but Flacco should’ve bought more time by moving around, especially against the 3-man rush. Looked like a nervous OC was his own worst enemy.
