We're one game down on Championship Sunday as the New England Patriots held on to beat the Baltimore Ravens, 23-20, in the AFC Championship game.
Up next is the NFC Championship game between the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers. The game will be on FOX at 5:30 p.m. (Arrowhead Time).
I'm very shaky on this pick but I'm taking the Giants. I kinda get the feeling they're on a similar run as the one they had four years ago when they won the NFC Championship game and went to the Super Bowl beating the -- wait for it -- Patriots!
Early thoughts on the game? I want to see this 49ers defense.

Giants win it all.
My prediction heading into the playoffs was Pats-Giants in the SB with Giants winning it all.
Nick Britt - January 22, 2012
49ers with their D will beat the giants
Chiefshero - January 22, 2012
I think Giants win easily
I knew it was gonna be the Pats in a close one
RamX21 - January 22, 2012
F the giants
Go San Fran! First time i post first

This should be a good one.
First game sure was.

Giants-Patriots Would Be A Great Rematch
I’ve also heard (don’t know if it’s true) that the Giants had 100:1 odds this season on winning the Super Bowl.
UCrawford - January 22, 2012
I like the Giants in the rematch too
I’m not sure why the Hoodie feels he needs to get so cute using converted QB to WR’s covering Boldin. You can’t tell me they can’t find a DB on their practice squad or free agency.
craig in calgary - January 22, 2012
That sounds like its not true at all
Chiefs86 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
Niners
And it appears as though the Patriot way still does work.
Steve_in_RI - January 22, 2012
I wanna see this Patriot way work minus Tom Brady
Not saying it can’t work but seriously….Cassel is not Brady as Pioli seems to want to believe
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
Brady sucked that game!
fongKC - January 22, 2012
And they still get 23....
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
exactly
fongKC - January 22, 2012
When has Pioli
ever said that he thinks Cassel is Brady
badassz1987 - January 22, 2012
I never said he did. I said he seems to think it
I just want him to see Cassel is not going to turn out like Brady did in NE and get someone else to start for us
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
keep orton please
get rid of your ego pioli
niageriannit1 - January 22, 2012
Well Orton might not stay here. I think we should try to get another veteran to compete
if he doesnt
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
I don't know why you people don't understand this
The HEAD COACH is the one responsible for who plays, NOT the GM. It’s not Pioli’s call on whether Cassel starts or not.
RamX21 - January 22, 2012
Cassel Stanzi Palko
Who organizes that roster?
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
The head coach
The GM gets the players, the coach then sets the depth chart
RamX21 - January 22, 2012
The GM gets the players?
So I am saying that he should get someone else to start. I know the coach decides who starts.
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
who else was available?
and when the one person became available he signed him
RamX21 - January 22, 2012
You are talking in a past tense
I am saying he should get someone else to start
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
like who
Give me some examples
RamX21 - January 22, 2012
Jason Campbell is one
Try to convince Orton to stay around is another. Just want to see someone compete for the job because Palko and Stanzi cant beat out Cassel
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
Jason Campbell? Are you serious
You’re complaining about Pioli not making moves when it’s impossible to make any moves right now. Stanzi didn’t start because of that asshat Haley. Palko has no business being in the NFL
RamX21 - January 22, 2012
You said examples
I want someone to compete. I am not talking NOW either. Im talking in the near future before next season. How do you know Stanzi was even NFL ready? Palko wasn’t either but he really might not have been NFL ready.
Mind you, I still think Pioli knows what he is doing. Just want a roster with a QB to compete with Cassel because of those 3, I would take Cassel
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
and
Im sure he will as soon as someone better is available
badassz1987 - January 22, 2012
I am sure he will too...well I just really hope he does honestly
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
For the record, I never wanted to Stanzi to start over Cassel if that means anything
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
I don't think it is so cut and dry...
There are exceptions and differences throughout the league.
Also, I don’t think any team does it 100% the same every time no matter what. That is why these debates are silly.
The term team means just that, sometimes it is just team decisions.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Yea that makes sense too.
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
So who signed Palko
Who traded for Cassel? Who released Gaither?
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
The Chiefs did
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
I.E Scott Pioli
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
rac
Chiefshero - January 22, 2012
Who?
who has Pioli passed on that would have been better than Cassel

What?? I am saying I want him to get someone else to start for us
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012

fongKC - January 22, 2012

CMatthews - January 22, 2012

niageriannit1 - January 22, 2012
Defense wins championships
Patriots won today because of their defense not their offense
badassz1987 - January 22, 2012
Ravens kicker did his part as well.
Idahochief - January 22, 2012
Meh
I think the “Defense wins championships” mantra has largely been dropped. You need a good balanced team on both sides of the ball.
craig in calgary - January 22, 2012
Not so much a balance as neither side can suck.
Idahochief - January 22, 2012
Here here.
I think we’ve seen the fact that balanced play is the way to go. The days of the Greatest Show on Turf and the Steel Wall are gone.
jhoward8780 - January 22, 2012
Won't cheer for Ray Lewis
but I will for Patrick Willis. Go 49ers!
shotty - January 22, 2012
Giants
They have the best chance to beat the Pats with their offense.
I’m so sick of the Patriots!! Even though Belichick will go down as best HC in history of NFL football. He could and actually does run that franchise his way from drafting to trades to calling plays.
Matt_Grbac - January 22, 2012 via mobile
I don't hate the Patriots
but I am jealous as hell.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Yeah
I just think everyone buys into the Patriot Way. No it’s not the Pats way…it’s Belichicks way!
Not Pioli, not Mangini, not McDaniels, not RAC, not Weis, not O’Brien, not Peas, not Dimitroff, not anyone!
It’s Belichick and Brady. Everyone else just benefits from the genius.
Pioli can’t turn us into a dynasty…he didn’t turn the Pats into one. Belichick and Brady is the common theme from all Super Bowl appearances.
Matt_Grbac - January 22, 2012 via mobile
Meh...
Kent Babb tried to tear down Pioli’s shot at building a dynasty… If it doesn’t succeed and Pioli can hire some good coaches for Romeo… the opportunity is still there for the taking. Kansas City can be a great team, they need to make the moves though.
Everybody has a role in the Patriots success, Bill Belichick is just a master at fitting people into his program and getting the best out of them.
Having Tom Brady around makes everything easier, but even Belichick almost won with Cassel.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
No it's Lets hit the lottery and get a HOF QB in the 6th round way
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
There are a lot more 1st-round QBs than Championship QBs, with Brady in the latter group.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
I don't hate them
I just think it’s fun we might be watching the best coach/QB combo ever, in their prime.
craig in calgary - January 22, 2012

Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012

His play calling is stale and predictable
Sounds like a perfect pick up for us
Chief Fan NZ - January 22, 2012
Perhaps..
but the guy is a true pro play caller and would bring a great new perspective to the Chiefs.
For what the Chiefs are trying to do, I think this could be an ideal hire. I’m ready for them to do something…anything.
Perhaps Scott Pioli will hire Kirk’s son from Baltimore.

Well if this was the year of the TE
That means Moe missed it :(

but come on…ACL happened to a few of our guys
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
Freak stuff
A cheap shot to the knee, slipping on a 1st down marker. I can’t figure out how Moeaki even got hurt he just dove out of bounds
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
I agree actually...
His injury was…not like the freak situations EB and JC suffered..
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
Didn't he have knee problems the whole offseason?
Chief Fan NZ - January 22, 2012
Well I think he did...Haley wanted to condition him I guess
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
ya he had offseason knee surgery
His medical is a mile long
2009: Missed three games due to an ankle injury.
2008: Limited to nine games due to nagging injuries, including a concussion, hamstring injury and recovery from a fractured foot.
2007: Received a medical redshirt following four games due to a broken wrist dislocated elbow. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/563070
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
I liked the pick, good risk reward scenario
There were similar questions about Gronk too, see how that worked out. Not getting a back up however was a huge mistake
Chief Fan NZ - January 22, 2012
Not when Aaron Hernandez was there and you didn't have to trade up to get him
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
Best blocking TE in the draft,
Aaron Hernandez had character concerns
Chief Fan NZ - January 22, 2012
If Tony Moeaki comes back healthy he could have a better overall career...
They are both world beaters though.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012

Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012

No QB
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012

Thanks Saint :)
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
Tell me Saints, you are made Chiefs GM, How do you fix this team?
Chief Fan NZ - January 22, 2012
I would trade my soul to get Andrew Luck
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
As long as it doesnt cost us any draft picks, I'm in for that.
Idahochief - January 22, 2012
Wed have to gut the team for that and considering the other holes we have its simply not worth it
Willie Beamon - January 22, 2012
How do you figure that?
Keep our guys signed spend some money in free agency , find a couple of gems via undrafted guys. It’s not that big of a deal guys
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
So in the first play of his career
Andrew Luck suffers a freak neck injury and he can never play football, you’re Chiefs GM, with no draft picks and no QB, no what do you do?
Chief Fan NZ - January 22, 2012
Become Denver's GM?
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
Ok, first of all
How many times in the history of the league has that happened to a QB? The chances of that happening are slim to none. Second, how good are the chiefs going to be with Cassel at QB? Look at the williams trade, the Saints were fine after that trade
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
I'm just playing a game, seeing what you would do if you were GM in certain scenarios
None of this adheres to reality
Chief Fan NZ - January 22, 2012
Good damn thing
We are AP
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
So I guess I should lay in bed all day
I could fall down the stairs and break my neck. Maybe I should only eat yogurt, afterall, I could choke to death on solid food. There are risks in life, do you not take any because the worst possible thing can happen?
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
Whilst I was arguing in the extreme
Would you want a GM who took those sorts of risks, and put the team’s future on the line?
Chief Fan NZ - January 22, 2012
McDoogie did last year in Denver
They won a playoff game
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
What is this teams future without a QB
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
If Luck is as good as you say then why wouldnt the Colts want Tamba,JC,and 2 1st rd picks ?
Willie Beamon - January 22, 2012
Willie come on!
He only has to trade his soul. The others can stay
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
My soul
Carr, Dorsey throw in a Studabaker 2 number 1;s, 2 number 2’s and a 3rd round pick
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
Surely your soul is worth more than those other things
NJChieffan16 - January 22, 2012
If it ain't, I'm out.

All we have to do is sacrifice a Saint Chiefs fan?

Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
seems like a good deal...
Where should we have the ceremony?
Arrowhead Denny’s?
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
The porta-pot at the edge of Arrowhead's parking lot
We can let the Cougar clean up the mess
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
Can we get the Chiefs to run drills there at the same time?
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
We don't have a QB
capable of hitting the shitter consistently
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
I disagree
Palko played like he was consistently hitting “the shit” while on the sidelines.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
key word
consistently
If we had a consistently slightly above average QB we have it made
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
Realistically
I see the Chiefs digging through the bottom of the draft for a QB.
They will make a go at Kyle Orton, keep/trade Matt Cassel depending on that outcome and draft a QB.
The Chiefs are in a QB pickle.
The biggest addition to this team regardless next season is Jamaal Charles and the new OC. This offense will improve no matter who the QB is IMO.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
But
Tight-ends score all the Touchdowns
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
That is why Moeaki is in the rehab zone already.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012

Either way it is blah...
Harbaugh is a better story than Eli though IMO. However, either Super Bowl will be a snore fest.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Giants vs pats
I disagree, it won’t be the drama of the 07 matchup. But it will be a good game. 2 elite qb’s going at it should be a good game
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
I think the Patriots will beat either team...
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
IDK
They really struggled today and Manning is a much better QB than Flacco
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
Joe Flacco and Eli Manning are pretty similar.
Some days they both look like studs, while most days they look incredibly average or terrible.
The Giants have a good defense… The Patriots have better coaching.
This is
Tom Brady’sBrian Waters year, I don’t see either team beating them.Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
no way man
Manning is better than Flacco and it’s not even close.
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
I don't think so...
Maybe if Manning wins another Super Bowl.
Joe Flacco has been on a playoff ride out there in Baltimore since his first year. If his kicker was any good he might be punching a Super Bowl win in a couple of weeks.
Eli Manning is not very good, he is so inconsistent and is finally having a decent year after all the hype. In 2007 that defense won the Super Bowl coupled with pedestrian throws by Eli. That David Tyree catch was a garbage throw.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Neither are that good...
but both are better then what we have had in KC. Sadly.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
I think Orton is just as good as either of them and theyve been given much more support than he has .
Willie Beamon - January 22, 2012
I think they are both more clutch than Orton
but that is a pretty valid argument.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
ok put the crack pipe down :)
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
manning is very good
Yes ,they both are better than what we have ,and incidently both are 1st round picks
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 22, 2012
I'm pretty meh on both of them
Sure they are both first round picks, but neither one of their teams traded two drafts to obtain their rights.
Though the Giants gave up a bunch.
I will never be a big Eli Manning fan, I think he is a piece of crap so I might be a bad person to debate with about him. Joe Flacco is a serviceable QB that has been given a lot of tools and has still fell flat do to his play combined with crappy play calling.
They are pretty similar to me.
If I had to choose one, I would start Tyler Palko…. Okay not really. I would pick Eli Manning, but only because he finds his receivers better under duress. Then I would promptly commit suicide.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
LOL they both are capable but lets be real look at how much theyve been given and what theyve done with it
There are quite a few other Qbs who could win if you consistently gave them good defenses and running games.
Flaaco felt some of what Orton felt driving his team down with a chance to win and then having the kicker miss the kick .
These guys are not carrying teams just playing there role and there quite a few other Qbs capable of doing that .
Eli I must say has gotten much better than what he was early in his career but Flaaco is wasting opportunities other Qbs would kill for . Ray Lewis is basically at the end of the road what will they do the next few years

the Patriots are going to definitely win the Super Bowl.
I don’t think we will see that “off” Tom Brady again… more like Broncos Tom Brady and that Brady will beat either the 49ers or the Giants IMO.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
He beat the Chiefs in only half a game :(
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
I think they lose as that defense collapses in the SB
Willie Beamon - January 22, 2012
The front line held up very well and pressured Flacco
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
I don't see that... Bill will have that defense ready.
Neither the Giants or the 49ers are that explosive, though the 49ers looked dam good against the Saints.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
he beats the 49ers hands down
I think the giants beat the Pats

Special Teams blocking...
is going to make the biggest impact on the team next season.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
I'm surprised we didn't see more scrambling on purpose, today.
I guess I can understand it in Brady’s case, but if Wilfork’s gonna just push the center back all day long, I’m not parkin’ MY QB there in the middle. Just looked dumb. Either double Wilfork, or plan to roll out. Flacco reminded me of Cassel, at times, today. For Pete’s sake, there’s only 3 of ‘em and they’re FAT. Make ‘em run around, but do NOT force the pass out or stand there like a stump waiting for somebody to come open. Those guys can’t get to you, if you just slide one way or the other.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
4 elephants
with two gazelles off the edge
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
That's right. They're running a 4-3, these days.
I see Wilfork there in the middle and just see him as the middle, and so they must be in 3-4.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
Still, they only sent 3 a few times, and it really did mess with Flacco, when Wilfork
was just running the C straight back about 9 yards.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
same with Ravens
4 DT’s front
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
I think we saw a lotta ambiguous nickel packages.
Interesting. I think of Baltimore as 3-4.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
I think that will be between running back and safety
as in how Eric Berry and Jamaal Charles return. If they can’t come back strong that will affect wins more than anything else.
Outside of that, I am going to say RT. If the Chiefs can block better and not look like Eli Manning just did sacked every play, then the Chiefs will win more games.
RT is vital to the Chiefs winning football games no matter who the QB is.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Richardson was the RT in 2010 when we won 10 games
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
True and if you remember I was high on replacing Richardson after 2010 as well...
I think the Bill Muir move stunted his growth along with JC’s injury exposing his weaknesses in run blocking.
I think Barry is more than capable, but this team needs elite pass blocking with it’s shelf of QB options. He will never sniff elite.
A lot of games this season Barry was awful and hard to watch. Barry Richardson with help from a TE like Pope equaled a sack for the other team more often than not.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
I was with you on the B-Rich thing, but then you seem to conclude that B-Rich is Muir's fault.
I don’t follow that chain of reasoning. You don’t like the RT, so his coach just has to go?
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
No I think Bill Muir is a good line coach
and I think his move to OC hurt Barry… that is just a guess, but Barry’s overall progressions slowed this season.
Maybe he was playing hurt or something, but his technique was bad and he was flagged a lot on important drives. That is a coaching glitch IMO.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Yeah, the coach can only do so much with what he is given.
Mr.Pibbs - January 22, 2012
I don't think Pat Perles was a good line coach at all
and he got to big for his britches filling in for Muir’s duties this season.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
That hurt Barry Richardson's technique
and perhaps Ryan Lilja’s as well/
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Could be. Good points.
Mr.Pibbs - January 22, 2012
when we lost Moeaki and Charles the O changed for the worse
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
definitely...
This year we get them back and I want KC to give them some new talented teammates and coaches to further their development
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
I'm more with Steve_Chiefs: RT may have the biggest impact, this year.
It makes taking OT in the 1st tempting, but to the point of maybe not being enough. I might just draft AGAIN, just to make sure. Watched 1st-rounder Nate Solder sucking at RT, today. Seems like New England is always looking for that RT. I think that with the combo of perimeter weapons on offense and a top-flight 4-3 defense, that could end up biting Brady, the same way it did last SB we saw with these two teams. But I don’t see the ’9ers going quietly into the night.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
In Zone Blocking schemes good OT and G's can be found in later rounds with proper development
This team is in need of some new coaching and a few new pieces on the line.
It doesn’t necessarily need to be a first round pick, but the Chiefs need to upgrade a right tackle and left guard at some point. That is undeniable.
I’m anxious to see David Mims this offseason, but I want the Chiefs to bring in some new blood starting with coaching the line. With Muir likely retiring and Perles fired, that is going to happen and it is exciting.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012

cmon Pioli find an OC you like and get busy
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012

Mr.Pibbs - January 22, 2012
Fo sho
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Agree. I'm not too keen on Martin/Reiff in the 1st, anyway.
I’m totally OK with a 1st for an elite left tackle, or even mid-1st for a sure-thing RT. But I don’t like seeing guys who have to work on some things to round out their game being taken in the 1st.
That said, until you ARE asserting yourself up front MUCH more than KC’s OL has in the past few years, it’s hard to say ANY OL pick is overkill. Get it RIGHT at LEAST once, before counting on your coaches to turn pig’s ears into silk purses.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
Honestly
I would like to see a trade down, but if they don’t I want them to take the best ZB lineman available.

Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012

those are just the positions that need to be explored.
I’m pretty happy with the roster for the most part.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
if we hit on 66% are we good?
upgrading UDFA and street FA with some spots
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
Exactly, the Chiefs don't need to re-invent the wheel
just re-up some quality coaches, get in a full offseason and see some healthy returns with a strong draft and free agent class.
This is very capable of being great next year… don’t get me started.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Bah, the wheel is so old
It needs an overhaul.
I mean look at it. It just sits there all round and rolling.
It’s long overdue for an upgrade, imo.
TRSChief - January 22, 2012
they are trying
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
I don't want to see:
Kelly Gregg
Tyler Palko
Sabby Piscetelli
Jon McGraw
Jeremy Horne
Jerheme Urban
Donald Washington
Those are off the top of my head
Either B-Rich or Lilja have to go.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
cutting depth and gunners?
McGraw is alright as a backup, Gregg too, Washington is alright.
We have to go 3 deep or we get a Piscatelli
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
Our special teams is not good at blocking for Javier Arenas
I want replacements,
Kelly Gregg was terrible at times, decent at times. I don’t want him near this team ever again.
None of those players are must haves and should be replaced. It goes along with this team having a new identity.
Those special teams gems are available in free agency. Let’s find some new ones. Plus other Chiefs leaving grants room for other players to step up.
This team needs new better depth.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
I'm not as critical of Horne or Urban.
I think you get some other things going right and you start liking these guys a little bit more. Urban just does his job. Horne’s an exceptional athlete, who may yet rub out that rawness.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
Yeah I've wondered more than once how well Orton with his stronger arm could utilize Horne on a go route.
TRSChief - January 22, 2012
Urban is talented on the practice field
not on the the grid iron.
Plus he can’t stay healthy. Jeremy Horne missed on some critical plays and is easily replaced.
I wouldn’t mind giving his ST’s spot to Quentin Lawrence.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
by Chief-blinders-on: QB is another position with FA upgrades available.
I would be looking at ALL the possibilities there, including Flynn and Henne. I don’t think KC’s in position to make a big splash at QB in the draft, and they could use somebody who’s set a solid floor as a vet, to push Cassel.
There are quite a few quality FAs out there, and none of ‘em look like they’ll be easy to sign. And whomever they sign will
easeaffect the decision-making process in the draft.hmills110 - January 22, 2012
I feel pretty much the same way
but those FA QB’s are not very tempting.
Scott Pioli needs to earn his money by signing some of those hard to sign players. That is why we wanted the guy in the first place. He is suppose to be among the best.
FA’s being hard to sign should never be an excuse.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Nope. Not an excuse. Just a good reason to cast a wide net.
Plus, I’m one who sees more good QBs than there are good teams for ‘em to play on. And a lot of good QBs are underrated because they played for bad teams. Sometimes, you don’t know a QB is any good until you see him join a team that plays to enough of his strengths. Heck, for overall understanding, arm strength and mobility, Donovan McNabb is prob’ly ahead of Kyle Orton, but you’d never know it, because he wasn’t quick enough to perform miracles in his last couple stops.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
Mills:
I have stated many times this season, that I think the problem with the line was blocking scheme and coaching.
Several plays there was either a penalty or a lineman would seemingly be out of place with no one to block. That is a coaching error and one I blame on Todd and Scott for promoting Bill Muir when he was doing fine coaching the line in 2010.
The Chiefs created a problem where they didn’t have one and it shows with Perles getting fired and the talk of Muir retiring from the team.
The players are accountable too and the Chiefs need to re-shuffle the deck on the line. Try out Mims during the offseason, look at some available free agent OL and draft a couple quality ZBing big men in the draft to develop.
Jamaal is their bread and butter and they need to be ready for his return along with giving him a new partner in crime not named Thomas Jones. Though I do think Jackie Battle showed some potential, I would like the Chiefs to sign or draft another runner to complement JC.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
agree
bring in a FA and a draft pick and shuffle the deck for the best 5 players
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
BUT, we need to indentify what we want to do best
Run the ball or throw the pass and live with that decision
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
AND that goes for whether we are an Offensive team or a Defensive Team
:)
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
Once they get the coaches we can figure out who will go best with the new coaches
until then we are trying to find a light switch in a strange pitch black bathroom
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
every team has either an offensive lean or defensive lean
in 2010 the Chiefs were Rushing/Offensive leaning.
in 2011 the Chiefs were run stuffing/Defensive leaning
we need an Identitiy
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
agreed...
Hopefully next year the Chiefs are what the 2011 could have been with less injuries and a better coaching hire on offense.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
I wouldn't look for just the one or the other.
In the 1st 3 rounds, I expect the guy to be good at whatever I ask him to do, and I picked him because I believed he could do what I was asking.
I dunno, Chief-blinders. Could be they were bent outta shape by moving Muir to OC. But what do we really know about the actual division of labor that took place? Did they hire an extra guy to pick up some of the slack, when Weis left, or did they just kludge the job together with the guys who remained? I don’t remember if there was a new hire in offensive staff, when Weis moved on.
I think the bottom line with B-Rich might just not be all that quick upstairs. I was pretty forgiving of “rookie mistakes” in his first year starting. But 2011 didn’t evince the up-side we were lookin’ for from B-Rich, who has all the tools, except maybe a teensy amount of quickness or quick-twitch.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
Jim Zorn
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Awesome
He did a hell of a job
Stanzi and Palko were QB’s too
what good was he?
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
Woah, I am not beating his drum Steve.
I’m just answering Mills conundrum.
Jim Zorn should not be our OC, I am not opposed to him staying the QB coach. I was utterly disappointed with his work with Palko.
Though I would argue that Palko did well, but he just had terrible arm strength and Stanzi not being ready lies directly at the feet of Zorn.
Maybe Zorn is anti-america and they didn’t click.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Sorry
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
no need for that nonsense
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
Heh.
I have to admit, in my weaker moments, that they should’ve been able to get a heckuva lot more offense out of the guys they had. So I reckon it goes to coaching. With a full off season, Haley did some things remarkably well. His first season was just a dress rehearsal, and his 3rd season he had no offseason, and his way of dealing with it apparently didn’t work too well. Blah blah blah. But they didn’t click very well, at all. A lot of folks just think it’s the QB talent, and Orton’s success against the league’s worst defense had more folks believing that.
I see these playoff teams using dump-offs to RBs to stem the tide of the pass rush, and wonder why it’s been so lacking in KC offense, under Haley. I think Haley is a believer in runners run and wide receivers catch. Just my impression.
hmills110 - January 22, 2012
His offense is no Air Coryell
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
dammit
Air Coryell was awesome
Steve_Chiefs - January 22, 2012
As was Priest's running lanes on sweeps
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
I don't want to get rid of B-Rich completely
but I do want the Chiefs to draft his replacement and make him earn his spot unless they bring in a free agent.
There should be two new line coaches, that should help and they may be able to help him with new perspective…who knows. He does have the tools, I agree.
We have all seen him play great at times.
Smarts could be an issue.
If I had my way it would be a (Jackie) battle between Mims/Richardson/FA/Draft Pick at the RT spot may the best Chief win.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
I really wish we could have seen him at least once.
And Hudson for that matter… and Stanzi… am I missing anyone? Oh yea and Mims!

TRSChief - January 22, 2012
Nazi thread? Is there a way of explaining this to me without reigniting the stupidity?
joplin chiefs fan - January 22, 2012
Derp poster made a bad fanpost apparently
It got deleted and he got banned.
He made another account to make a new fanpost about his other fanpost getting deleted. In it he called those who run AP Nazis, and had a lovely pic of Hitler accompanying his little (unformatted and badly written) tirade.
Arguing ensued.
I posted blueberries. The only thing that could possibly save the thread.
It got deleted anyway. Along with my delicious blueberries. =(
TRSChief - January 22, 2012
Fair enough. You really can't argue with blueberries.
joplin chiefs fan - January 22, 2012
no... you can't

Cuz I'm sure Alex Smith would've drove em down the field
Come on
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
No but neither was Eli
Chiefs86 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
I would've trust Eli alot more than Smith

I really hope you know I was referring to the story that was in shutdown corner of them choosing to stay home for the games cuz one was on the West coast and the other was on the East coast. I do think they made the right choice so they dont choose favorites however

Didn't think of that.
electriclight - January 22, 2012
I feel bad for the 49ers
They had an amazing season, but the Giants did knock off two of the best teams in the NFL when it mattered.
Now, I think the New England Waters are going to win the Super Bowl in a boring game.
Chief-blinders-on - January 22, 2012
30=13 Pats
something like that

KCinIL - January 22, 2012
LOL Eli threw 55 times for 14 points and won on a special teams play ......Hes great lol
Willie Beamon - January 22, 2012
He played the #1 defense in the league?
Still threw 2 TDs no picks
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
two super bowl appearances, he must stink.
didn’t turn the ball over in a game that was decided by turnovers.
BeauJackson - January 22, 2012
So true
Cassel or Palko would’ve passed for like 600 yards today against that D, right?
TRSChief - January 22, 2012
no they wouldnt have but its amazing that we would expect them to because of the myth that thats what the elite qbs do to get there teams to SBs
Willie Beamon - January 22, 2012
Eli didn't light them up, today.
But he made plays when they needed it, against a top rated defense.
Last year against a top rated defense, Cassel folded like a cheap chair.
That’s kind of the main difference. It’s subtle and hard to see, I know.
TRSChief - January 22, 2012
Hows this
Really good QB, really good 1-3 weapons on offense, good to great defense, and a don’t fuck up ST. Good?
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
So...
Eli tears up the Falcons and Packers, but only does enough to beat the Niners, and this means he didn’t partly lead them to the Super Bowl?
BeauJackson - January 22, 2012
Cool for Eli...done something his more lauded big brother hasn't done & now
will be playing in the SB in his big bro’s town.
WorL4Chiefs - January 22, 2012
Against his biggest Nemesis
Just storylines all fucking around lol
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
Yup...like he's now the only QB in NFL history with 5 road playoff wins
I’ll be rooting for Eli ‘cause I’m really sick of the Pats.
Brady’s had his turns… go Giants. :-D
WorL4Chiefs - January 22, 2012
Don't know who I'm pullin for
Just a good ass game. Like to see Waters get a ring, don’t care to see Page back into 1. Whoever wins def deserved it this year
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
Yep...I have all older sibs so I'm kind of empathizing with Eli lol
WorL4Chiefs - January 22, 2012
QBs
Funny how whichever QB wins the conference title game gets all the credit for his team’s win. We were two awful special teams plays from Alex Smith vs. Joe Flacco in the Super Bowl, but since other players messed up, all we’ll hear about is how elite quarterbacks led their teams to the Super Bowl. Even though Brady threw a horrible pick that would have cost his team the season if his d-back teammate didn’t slap the ball out of the receiver’s hands in the end zone.
Luck has way more to do with winning and losing than most anyone is willing to admit.
Offense of the 70s - January 22, 2012 via mobile
EXACTLY !!!
Willie Beamon - January 22, 2012
If that's the case why are the same teams usually in it?
Are they just always lucky?
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
but the same teams are not always usually in it
Willie Beamon - January 22, 2012
In the playoffs?
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
playoffs.. yes SB No !!
Willie Beamon - January 22, 2012
Well no shit
You can say that about every sport. Usually the same teams have a great shot at it year in year out
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
yeah but they are not there simply because of who they have at QB which is what he was saying
Willie Beamon - January 22, 2012
Luck is nowhere near anything to do with it as much as you guys think
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
QBs had very little to do with the outcome of this game as well but yet they are surely getting all the credit
Willie Beamon - January 22, 2012
Even though they haven't mentioned Eli once
Or Brady after the other game. All they’re talking about is the ST, so you’r not really making any sense in this one. Neither one of em is getting much of the credit, been watchin this shit all day
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
LOL All they did on Fox show is talk about ELi and his performance
Willie Beamon - January 22, 2012
So stop watching Fox
The dude still threw 2 tds and no turnovers against the best defense in the league. You want em to get no credit? He did account for 14 of their 20 points
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
they even claimed how as long as hes standing the Giants have a hcnace as if they didnt just see them punt on 9 of there last 10 possessions
Eli game managed this game to death and Smith as well and I have no problem with that but man they are hyping it as some heroic performance when in fact the defense kept them in it all game
Willie Beamon - January 22, 2012
Come on
600 yards passing, 67 comp% 6 tds, 1 int, 0 fumbles, 121 QB rating(for what its worth). Dudes BALLED in the playoffs
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
4 QB's played today. Here are their numbers.
22/36 306yd 2TD 1INT
22/36 239yd 0TD 2INT
12/26 196yd 2TD 0INT
32/58 316yd 2TD 0INT
Guess which was Eli?
TRSChief - January 22, 2012
But they sometimes always are.
Tarkus - January 22, 2012
Occasionally.
Once.
TRSChief - January 22, 2012
Because the teams who are always in the playoffs are very good teams, top to bottom. It’s a team game, not a Qb passing contest, and special teams are a third of the game. When two good teams face off, luck is often the difference, but afterwards, the story has to be retroactively written to make it all about the QBs, because ey are the highest profile players. So Tom Brady just led his team to another Super Bowl, even though he didn’t really. He did have a nice sneak for a TD but he also got really lucky today and the game was decided on plays that had nothing to do with the QBs.
Offense of the 70s - January 22, 2012 via mobile
Harbaugh seemed a little sore lose-ish
That was 1 quick ass shake, didn’t even look at Tom lol
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
Patriots open as 3 1/2-point favorites over Giants in Super Bowl
Tarkus - January 22, 2012
I think the sb will be extra hyped up this year and the game will end up sucking, don’t know who will win but one of them will run away with it …hopefully it’s NE…I can respect what they’ve done year in and year out….giants r more of a luckier team as they’ve never been favorites
Chiefs86 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
Ha this guy
You say the Giants got lucky and the Patriots won almost the exact same way. Which is it?
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
What?
Dominated the Falcons, cruised past the Packers, beat the Niners at their own game, how is that lucky?
BeauJackson - January 22, 2012
Let me rephrase that, they’re not a team with high expectations going into the season …their one super bowl win were all close and now they have reached another super bowl in a similar fashion …unforced turnovers, balls are bouncing their way, did ne get lucky today ? Yes but they’ve been CONSISTENTLY good all year …on the other hand giants have had a lot of breaks
Chiefs86 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
Instead of one super bowl win i meant to say last super bowl win
Chiefs86 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
Giants beat the Patriots this year, no?
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
they were lucky to do that!
BeauJackson - January 22, 2012
Ha, I know right
I love it how luck is spread out over an entire season
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
So what's ur point? They also lost to the redskins
Chiefs86 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
A division opponent who knows them better than most teams in the league?
What your point?
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
Twice not once again TWICE
And to the Seahawks ? Lol N four games In a row…they’re not a consistently great team…Ido respect Eli he’s now an elite qb …wish we had them…the rest of the team aside from the wrs are overrated
Chiefs86 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
Once again, who said great team?
Do you not read?
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
The Seahawks game they were unlucky
Were on a 2nd and goal about to go up 11, Cruz bobbled a ball right into a Seahawks safety for a 99 yard pick six.
BeauJackson - January 22, 2012
That DL is over-rated?
I’d love to have that over-rated DL
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
If you’re both giants fans u can join their blog instead and say how great they are lol
Chiefs86 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
Never said they were great
And check the avatar I’m clearly not a Giants fan, I just give credit where credits do. You wanna hate, fine, but don’t make shit up to try and justify the hate.
KCinIL - January 22, 2012
I'm just confused
Were the Niners lucky this year too? A turnover differential of +28 is not that sustainable, so I’d assume yes.
BeauJackson - January 22, 2012
I expected the giants to win this game bc I saw too many weakness on the niners …I remember we had a year with a high + number and it didn’t translate into the playoffs
Chiefs86 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
The Giants are inconsistent
The Niners played a style of game that isn’t great for long term success this season. Relying on turnover differential doesn’t work out forever. It bit them today. Wouldn’t be shocked to see them slide to 8-10 wins next season.
BeauJackson - January 22, 2012
And how come the giants with all those weapons and good d not as consistent ? If they were always good in the regular season then I wouldn’t be questioning how they got to the super bowl, however at the end of the day they still deserve credit for gettin there , and for the record I like Eli
Chiefs86 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
They had a ton of injuries this season
LB, CB, RB. Their o-line play is up and down. I see all their games since I live in their area, and they are annoying with the inconsistency. This year, it was due to the injuries. The running game was the worst in the league this season. They have a good foundation overall though with QB, WR, DL, which is why they are able to get hot at the right time like this.
BeauJackson - January 22, 2012
I’m also from the area so I hear it all and those r excuses. I hear it from both sides since I live in nj and work in NYC. We didn’t make any excuses so neither should they. Last time I checked their qb was playing all season and their running game sucked with or without Bradshaw
Chiefs86 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
Excuses for the inconsistency
At the end of the day though, the Chiefs went 7-9, and the Giants are playing the Super Bowl.
BeauJackson - January 22, 2012
Does
Anyone else notice the similarities between our Chiefs and the Niners?
the scout 2 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
red and gold?
Tarkus - January 22, 2012
Watching the Super Bowl from home?
TRSChief - January 22, 2012
Reminds me of
Chiefs last year with weiss helping Cassel. Good defense. We looked like teams going in opposite directions last year. We destroyed them last year. Now they were OT away from going to superbowl.
