Yesterday we noted a report from Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that the Chicago Bears were "on the verge" of hiring Kansas City Chiefs college scouting director Phil Emery for their GM job, which made it seem like the deal was, you know, about to get done.
Not exactly right. Not yet, at least. Maybe the two sides do ultimately agree on something but the Bears have made it known to Chicago-area reporters that they have not offered the job to anyone and there is another round of interviews coming. McGinn's updated report cites sources who believe Emery will ultimately be hired as the Bears GM.
Chicago's GM search included five candidates but now it's just down to two -- Emery and Jason Licht of the New England Patriots. The others were Marc Ross of the New York Giants, Jimmy Raye of the San Diego Chargers and in-house candidate Tim Ruskell.
Emery and Licht are expected to interview this week, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Interesting that the two finalists have connections to the Patriots tree. Emery also has connections to the Bears dating back to his time as an area scout so he may be less inclined to blow up the front office, which current Bears employees probably wouldn't mind.

Up until today I've been worried about losing Emery
But this post about the Patriot connections completely altered my thinking. Based on the clear path of communication that Pioli has with the Pats (see Cassel/Vrabel/Waters and other stories about tips Pioli and the Pats apparently feed back and forth to each other (without it ever being confirmed)), I think having a guy with the Bears would be good for the Chiefs.
Say what you will about Pioli (and he’s not my favorite guy), but he knows how to use his relationships and contacts for info.

You would think with the Chiefs being such a supposed awful organization.

Such as the above article that was a spin off of Kent Babb’s
masterpiecethat no team would want a part of the madness or any of the evil Chiefs miscreants on the their front office team. What is Chicago thinking?

I seem to remember Marc Ross' name popping up here before we hired Pioli
