Good morning! Once again, we've gathered your Kansas City Chiefs news from across the internet. Enjoy.
The days at Ladd-Peebles Stadium have been a little longer for Crennel this year. His privacy is typically respected during the actual practice portion of the day as he sits alongside GM Scott Pioli, comparing notes and discussing the prospects that catch his eye for the right or wrong reasons.
It's the post-practice routine that's forcing Crennel to work overtime in Mobile. It's a sight best described as a receiving line of well wishers and job seekers.

This year's Senior Bowl is void of the Hawkeye many mock drafts have already penciled in as Kansas City's first-round selection for 2012. Offensive tackle Riley Reiff is just a junior, making him ineligible to participate in this week's all-star outing.
But the Hawkeyes aren't without representation in Mobile and their top offensive play-maker from 2011 wouldn't mind continuing a trend in becoming the third Hawkeye drafted by Kansas City in as many seasons.

Licht has worked twice with the Patriots, first under Pioli as a college scout, then returning in 2009 as director of pro personnel under Belichick. And Emery, who started his scouting career with the Bears, worked under former Patriots college scouting director Thomas Dimitroff in Atlanta and now works for Pioli.
In Kansas City, Pioli said Emery runs all of the Chiefs' draft meetings, and he's a key voice on draft days in their draft room.
Asked if Emery is ready to be a GM, Pioli said, "You only find out if you're ready when you get into it.
"But, yes, I do believe he's ready. He's a strong decision-maker."

NFL.com reported that former Kansas City coach Todd Haley is talking to the Cardinals about joining the staff. Haley talked to Arizona earlier this month, but there were reports he likely wouldn't go there. Monday, former Oakland coach Hue Jackson reportedly also interviewed with Cardinals about their quarterback-coaching job.
It is feasible that Haley and Jackson could both end up on the Cardinals' staff, but I'd be surprised to see that happen.
Paired with the talents of fellow corner Brandon Flowers, the Chiefs secondary was one of the best in the NFL in 2011 and will elevate to new heights in 2012 with the return of star safety Eric Berry.
But for this dream team of Carr, Flowers, Berry, and another emerging star safety Kendrick Lewis, the Chiefs will need to invest substantial dollars to retain Carr's playing rights.

Any news on Carr's contract talks?
kcchief1981 - January 25, 2012
Or Bowe's for that matter?
kcchief1981 - January 25, 2012
Nope, nothing
Probably won’t hear a lot whole lot until closer to March. The player’s leverage only rises the closer we get to March (start of free agency) so I don’t think we’ll see anything until closer to that date.
Joel Thorman - January 25, 2012
I agree...
Said this before, but, these two deals won’t get done until late. They both know they are high dollar contracts, and both are liable to get hit with the franchise tag. It wouldn’t surprise me if their agents were holding out to see what happens to the other and that franchise tag. A game of chicken… and nobody will flinch until March.
juvatbull - January 25, 2012
I would rather have Carr than Bowe if I had tochoose.
There are plenty of good free agent WR’s out there, but by resigning Carr we would have arguable the best secondary in the entire league.
5280ChiefsFan - January 25, 2012
Until the Denver game I would of agreed
But after not being able to move the ball at all in the second half when Bowe went down i’m not sure now
kcchief1981 - January 25, 2012
Jamaal Charles will help that a lot.
I say keep Carr if we have to choose.
DanielH123 - January 25, 2012
So will Moeaki
And I imagine Pioli has an eye on another TE, looking to bring that NE flare to KC.
Spiderwomn69 - January 25, 2012
I was kind of thinking the same thing
He ate Woodson alive, which is not easy. Carr, however, is so important to what should easily be the best secondary, on what will be one of the best defenses in the NFL.
I am torn. Let’s face it, the offense has more holes, so maybe it’s Bowe. Can you take the gamble that Baldwin turns into a Bowe, and you pick up another great one?
Can you sign one and slap the tag on the other?
The fact that they haven’t signed them yet indicates, to me, they want to see what they can get elsewhere.
Zayla - January 25, 2012
Like you said
Get one signed then it’s easy, I think it would be easier to resign Carr during the season with a franchise tag on him than it would be for Bowe. Not sure why, just a feeling.
kcchief1981 - January 25, 2012
Maybe they want to find out WHO they can get an offer from
Look at the Giants, Patriots and Packers. Three teams that have teams pass all over them. My guess would be they would all drool over a guy like Carr.
Not a bad place to land for him.
Not just because I’m a Chief fan, but because KC is loaded with young talent, barring another barrage of injuries, they will be one of the best defenses in the NFL and should walk away with this pathetic division, KC should be a desirable place.
Pioli, who I believe is going to go bat shit crazy and keep his word, will shore up that offensive line, plug the defensive line a couple spots, get some depth and the Chiefs will be a top AFC team next year.
And yes, that’s with Cassel under center.
The must, MUST have a great offensive coordinator, and keep continuity at that position so Cassel, and the rest of them can get some consistency. Five OC in three years.
Zayla - January 25, 2012
I think you can play it the other way
Both the Carr and Bowe are waiting for one to blink.. Simply franchise the most important one, now you have one to negotiate with. Cheapest is bowe, probably more important is Carr.
I would franchise bowe, offer Carr what Flowers got.
Bigcherokeechief - January 25, 2012
Not sure where I saw it but,
I think it’s pretty close, Bowe 9.7 and Carr 10.2, something like that to be franchised but totally agree, give Carr Flower’s money and move onto Bowe
kcchief1981 - January 25, 2012
I don't think you can pay him as much as Flowers
But make it close
Zayla - January 25, 2012
He could get more from the Vikings and the Lions
both of those teams need help bad in the secondary
KingChief - January 25, 2012
I think they'll both be back
There are several top-tier WRs hitting Free Agency, along with a pretty deep WR class in the draft. These factors are going to make it much less expensive to re-sign Bowe. I think he wants to stay here, and as long as he’s not getting some outrageous $60m contract offers in free agency, I think the two sides will come to an agreement.
As for Carr, it’s pretty much the opposite situation…lots of teams need a good CB and there are few available in free agency. I think he’ll be a Chief one way or another next year (probably tagged), but will be allowed to walk following the season, barring an extension. Hopefully Brown or a new draft pick will be ready to move up by then.
jmcgoblue - January 25, 2012
My concern
Is one thing Hunt and Pioli have done a very good job with is getting the key guys signed to extentions, to the tune of 195 million.
The fact that these guys are going all the way to free agency leads me to believe that it’s the players, not the Chiefs.
If it were Peterson, I wouldn’t feel that way, but these guys seem willing to pay their won players to keep them.
Zayla - January 25, 2012
FWIW, Hali had to be franchised before signing an extension
From the player’s perspective, it’s hard to blame them for wanting to see what their value would be on the market. I don’t think it means that either doesn’t want to re-sign.
jmcgoblue - January 25, 2012
I don't blame the players at all
Carr for instance being a 5th round pick probably was on relative peanuts for a starting NFL CB so you can’t blame him for wanting the most he can get.
kcchief1981 - January 25, 2012
I blame NOBODY for getting as much doe as possible
That’s why it pisses me off when people criticize Cassel for his contract. Hey, good for him that his agent got him that much money.
You want to criticize him for his play, fine.
How many people on here would tell their boss… No thank you. I’ll wait until I see how I perform then I’ll accept my raise.
Moronic.
Zayla - January 25, 2012
At some jobs though
if you don’t perform you don’t get a huge raise or if you are over paid, might be asked to take a salary cut or get fired
KingChief - January 25, 2012
Yeah, and players get fired in the NFL all the time
And no, you don’t get a raise unless you perform.
I was talking about once the raise is OFFERED to you.
Players also get salary cuts all the time.
Players contracts, as we all know, aren’t even contracts.
None of that has anything to do with the stupidity of criticizing CASSEL for the money he makes. In fact, it flies in the face of what you wrote.
Zayla - January 25, 2012
So you think he has performed up to that $63 million contract
KingChief - January 25, 2012
That's not what we were talking about
In fact, I specifically said if you want to criticize him for his play, that’s fair.
To criticize him for what he makes, to me, is stupid.
I realize that other than the people who sit at his dinner table, I am still a fan of Cassel.
At this point, if he cured cancer, Chief fans would bitch at him for putting doctors out of work.
I want to see the Chiefs put together a solid TEAM. I want to see what a healthy Cassel and TEAM does.
I give him this year to make that step up, if not, I’d dump him for a pizza.
Zayla - January 25, 2012
What would be on this pizza?
kcchief1981 - January 25, 2012
First, it has to come from NJ/NY
Ain’t now way I’m eating a pizza from KC. Many other things, yes, pizza… not a chance.
I’m partial to sausage and pepperoni, maybe some green peppers.
A large one.
Plus, he has had some good moments, playoffs, so I want some beer too.
Zayla - January 25, 2012
WEll I was done with Cassel when he threw the ball to Weddle
KingChief - January 25, 2012
Well, I don't bail on a player for one play
As stupid as it was. This is also a guy who won 11 games in 2008 and 10 games in 2010.
Look at Alex Smith, who was a number one pick.
As I said, I want to see what Cassel can do with a complete team, both sides of the ball.
I watched every game he played with the Pats in 2008 and to suggest he can’t throw is dumb. He can. Like any QB, he needs time.
One year. Then I jump ship.
Zayla - January 25, 2012
It wasn't for that 1 play
he had like 8 turnovers in the 2 previous games combined, the int to Weddle was the icing on the cake for me. If Cassel is the starter and leads us to a playoff win or 2 I will have no problem eating crow, but for now I can’t and don’t feel comfortable leading this team.
KingChief - January 25, 2012
True on Hali
But I think one of the two of these guys will be gone. Just a feeling. Maybe the change from Haley to Crennel will help, but who knows.
Thing is, they’re going to get their $$$ here or elsewhere. Might as well stay home.
Zayla - January 25, 2012
Except that for Carr home is near Detroit
HIV 2 Elway - January 25, 2012
He already said KC is his home
He bought a house here, he’s played here for, what, four? years, his friends, family, etc is here.
It’s not where you come from, but where you live.
Personally, I’d sure as shit rather live in KC than Detroit.
Zayla - January 25, 2012
If I'm 26 years old and had been away from home for 4 years....
I sure wouldn’t mind going back home with $20M+ in garaunteed money to play for a team thats closer to Super Bowl.
HIV 2 Elway - January 25, 2012
I think Stafford and maybe Suh are the only things that have Detroit "closer" to a SB.
Falcon58 - January 25, 2012
Only a QB and the best DT in football? Only?
Not to mention the best WR in the league, and other straight stud d-linemen?
HIV 2 Elway - January 25, 2012
I should have turned it around and said Suh and Maybe Stafford
Stafford is oft-injured, but a much better QB than Rook is. Suh is a beast. Bowe could be close to Megatron with a decent QB and cutting his drops in half.
My point really was: We’re not that far apart. Those two pieces I mentioned are probably the difference.
Let me put it this way: If I was going to choose between a beast NT in FA (Like a Paul Solial) or Brandon Carr during the next few months… I sign Solial every time. Give me the beef on the line that can get pressure and make the CB’s jobs much easier. Then you can let Carr walk and replace him.
Falcon58 - January 25, 2012
CBs are very valuable. That's why so many get drafted in the first couple of rounds.
Brsrkr - January 25, 2012
The Chiefs played scared the second half.
We don’t really know if they could have moved the ball with their other weapons or not, because they didn’t really try. They crawled into a shell after Bowe got injured. Hopefully the next OC will be better at handling adversity.
Tarkus - January 25, 2012
kcchiefs.com used the word hoopla
who says that anymore?
strathclyde - January 25, 2012
Hoopla?
That sounds like a bunch of poppycock!

Tarkus - January 25, 2012
Crennel seems to be a man of his word
He said all along he wasn’t making any decisions on the coaching staff until the Senior Bowl and there he is.
His choice of Offensive Coordinator may be the most important decision for his career and Pioli’s.
I see many people saying Al Saunders. I just don’t see it. So many Chief fans want to bring back pieces from the past that worked at a certain time, with certain coaches, players, etc.
I think I would have been most please with Jackson, but if they were going to do that, I suppose they would have already.
Zayla - January 25, 2012
I kinda like the idea of Marvin McNutt as a WR
To go with Bowe (provided hes resigned), Baldwinn, Breaston, and Moeaki. That could be a pretty dangerous Recieving Corp. (Its kinda sad that spell check doesn’t recognize any of the last names of these guys).
chiefs_fan_forever - January 25, 2012
Check out Streeter, if he was there in the later rounds.. no way you don't take a shot
6’4’’ long frame with blazing speed
BAMFSpecialOps - January 25, 2012
We do need someone who can blow the top off the defense
either cover deep or double Bowe
KingChief - January 25, 2012
Sign MeSean, draft beef
HIV 2 Elway - January 25, 2012
I'm with that. Pour me another.
Falcon58 - January 25, 2012
Baldwin might turn into that, if we get a QB who could hit him deep
Not the fastest in a strait line, but has deceptive speed and is able to leap out of the building. If you can hit Baldwin once or twice, or even over throw him, it will force a DC to keep a safety deep for help
BAMFSpecialOps - January 25, 2012
WHY?
Cassel wouldn’t be able to throw it that far!
DEEJAYDEEZ - January 25, 2012
Oh he can throw it that far
It’s just a matter of what side of the field does it end up on when he does.
DanielH123 - January 25, 2012
Surprise of the Offseason: Chiefs fail to re-sign both Bowe and Carr.
I think it’s interesting that KC may have drafted both of their replacements last year in order to give them one year to learn in the NFL before throwing them in the fire. Baldwin and Brown.
Falcon58 - January 25, 2012
I dont see that
unless neither of them WANT to be here or want ungodly amounts of money I think atleast 1 of them will be re-signed and the other tagged
banshee_01 - January 25, 2012
That's why it says "SURPRISE OF THE OFFSEASON."
Because noone can see it happening.
