During the Senior Bowl there are always reports of Team A spotted talking with a player and then it's tweeted and then fans like us get all worked up because we either love or hate that player.
Those are fun because you learn more about each particular player but in the long run the Kansas City Chiefs, or any other team, talking to a particular player doesn't necessarily mean anything.
Nevertheless, there are a lot of tweets and reports of players talking to Chiefs scouts. A few of the ones I've seen today...
The Chiefs chatted with DT Kendall Reyes, a 6'4" 300 pounds out of Connecticut. He's expected to be a second or third round pick this year. Also with Notre Dame SS Harrison Smith, 6'2", 212 pounds. He's expected to be a mid-round pick.
And my candidate for best name: Senio Kelemete. He's a guard out of Washington listed at 6'4" and 300 pounds. He's expected to be a mid round pick.
And in other draft updates...there's a small school guy, WR Thomas Mayo out of California (PA), who was one of many who connected with KC at the East-West Shrine game. He's listed at 6'2" and 207 pounds. There's also a late-round guy, ILB Shawn Loiseau out of Merrimack, who has spoken to Chiefs scouts.

I like where they are looking..
based on your reports. O line, D line and depth are a big need for us.
Keep up the good work.
angrydeafman - January 26, 2012
Wouldnt mind Reyes in the 2nd
Or Kelemete in the 3rd
Actually wouldnt mind any of these guys as Chiefs.
Dont know if thats a good or bad thing.
ChiefWarPaint - January 26, 2012
Reyes doesn't look like he would fit at all for that high of a pick though
There was some talk about Mayo being a freak before the college season started
BAMFSpecialOps - January 26, 2012
The CBS review makes Reyes sound pretty dang good.
Brsrkr - January 26, 2012
Yeah the practices he has shown a lot of explosion
I see a 4-3 interior guy, uses a lot of spin moves not power
BAMFSpecialOps - January 26, 2012
Could be a Gilberry backup/replacement, then.
Are they lining up much 3-4 type play at the Senior Bowl?
Brsrkr - January 26, 2012
4-3 only
No blitz/stunts/single high safety or cover 3 zone
Just like the probowl its shit for the defense.
He could be a Gilberry type player, but for that high of a pick? Ill pass
BAMFSpecialOps - January 26, 2012
We run Sub-Packages 50% of the time
And he isn’t a Gilberry-type, if anything he’s a greater then Gilberry-type. A lot more size and talent to work with, and upside as a 5 tech DE which Gilberry could never be.
ChiefWarPaint - January 26, 2012
I think both Gilberry and Dorsey would be pleased as punch to be traded to 4-3 teams.
Brsrkr - January 26, 2012
Gilberry is FA though
And there is no way i want Reyes starting his first year…
ChiefWarPaint - January 26, 2012
Oh, right...
Forgot about Gilberry’s contract year. Too bad for him it was worse than last year.
Yeah, if we lost Dorsey or TJax right now, we’d be in poor shape. Although I’m hopeful that Gordon could be servicable, I think he did pretty well when Dorsey was out last year. Plus all that rookie playing time for Bailey might pay off sooner rather than later.
Brsrkr - January 26, 2012
I meant a Gilberry type player to start off as
BAMFSpecialOps - January 26, 2012
Well you don't draft people for immediate impact
That’s what Free Agency is for
ChiefWarPaint - January 26, 2012
High picks are never drafted to have an immediate impact?
News to me.
BAMFSpecialOps - January 26, 2012
Not always
Was Jason Pierre-Paul? How about Tyson Jackson? Rodney Hudson? Dexter McCluster? Javier Arenas?
The list goes on and on and on. The draft is a crapshoot, and fans particularly take way to much stock in it.
If the player you draft has an immediate impact that’s always a good thing, but definitely not expected particularly the father away you get from the first round.
ChiefWarPaint - January 26, 2012
Hence the ''high picks'' part
Which he would be.
Are you saying Dex nor Arenas had impacts? JPP didn’t flash his first year?
BAMFSpecialOps - January 26, 2012
In their first years? The impacts were minimal at best, and they're still not "starters"
As was JPP, who was in a rotation his whole rookie year. He flashed but it wasn’t exactly great flashes, he’s become a monster due to development.
So what that means Reyes can’t flash his Rookie year? That he can’t have an impact rushing in the Nickel Package, playing 50% of the snaps?
ChiefWarPaint - January 26, 2012
High picks are expected to have impacts, thats all I'm saying
Twist it all you want.
BAMFSpecialOps - January 26, 2012
I'm not twisting anything
You’re the one alluding to Reyes not having an impact because he’d start in sub-packages his rookie year. Oh well he’s not a 3 down player immediately, that’s setting your bar way to high. Hardly any Defensive lineman are that are taken in the 2nd round. Hell any DL rookie period if you want to get technical with it whether they’re drafted in the 1st or 7th.
Don’t see why he wouldn’t have an impact, unless you just don’t like him as a prospect and think he will bust.
ChiefWarPaint - January 26, 2012
I don't like him in our scheme as I said
Or rather at this point, I do not see a place for him. I also stated I do not believe we will be in the position to take a subpackage player with a 2nd round pick which he could easily rise to be after this is all said and done.
BAMFSpecialOps - January 26, 2012
I dunno. I know we've still got other needs, but we need to backfill that D line sooner or later.
Even if Dorsey sticks around. I don’t know how long they keep Gordon. Right now, Bailey and UDFA Bair are our only developmentals for DE.
Brsrkr - January 26, 2012
Which we can find those guys later on in the draft
We could get a OT/OG/ILB/TE/DB in the second/third that would help us more than a back up DE
BAMFSpecialOps - January 26, 2012
But if he's starting in sub-packages that we run as much as we do the 3-4
Then he wouldn’t be a back-up, he’d be a starting defensive tackle. With potential down the line to start 3 downs.
But honestly what guys at those respective positions would be there?
OT: Levy Adcock? No thanks rather just wait till round 3.
OG: Brandon Washington? Zeitler? Don’t fit our scheme that we run now.
ILB: Bobby Wagner? Audie Cole? Wouldn’t be worth the pick, may not start this year anyway. Doubt we sniff Hightower or Burfict.
TE: Coby Fleener? He’d definitely be a back-up
DB: Some good corners, but if we re-sign Carr that type of pick can go on the backburner. Don’t expect Barron to be there, and its to early for any other safety. Not impressed with Iloka but I could live with Antonio Allen. I doubt either would give us the same impact as a good defensive lineman rushing the passer.
ChiefWarPaint - January 26, 2012
Zeitler moves rather well actually, can fit a ZBS
Dorsey, Tjax, Bailey, Gilberry, Gordon, etc can all play in the subpackages
No need for a guy who may only fit in 1 role, that early
BAMFSpecialOps - January 26, 2012
Not at the Senior Bowl
Looked completely lost in space.
They can play them huh? Sure, I’ll believe that when Crennel actually does it. Since he doesn’t I’ll err on the side of actually improving our team, Reyes may have one role early on but that doesn’t mean he won’t expand on that. Their is more then one year in the NFL, their are seasons after a player is drafted.
ChiefWarPaint - January 26, 2012
Gordon, Bailey, Gilberry, and Tjax all saw time in the subpackages last year IIRC
I don’t remember if Dorsey did, although the year before he was always in them.
Most ZBS prospects will look lost when its a 1 on 1 drill, which usually favor the Dlinemen anyways.
BAMFSpecialOps - January 26, 2012
Bailey and Gilberry were the main guys, they probably had 90% of the snaps
I don’t remember ever seeing TJ once, maybe you’re confusing him with Dorsey? Gordon doesn’t even have a contract with us next season.
I’d rather have a rotation anyways, don’t want guys that have to be in there for 3 downs. The Giants are going to the SB because of how great their depth is, versatility and they’re experts with the rotation, same with Baltimore.
And it wasn’t 1-on-1 drills, he’s not out blocking in space downfield on one-on-one drills.
ChiefWarPaint - January 26, 2012
Going off mills with the Tjax reference
Do not remember seeing Dorsey out there last year in the subpackages.
Love to know how Zeitler doesn’t fit the scheme, I was talking about the 1 on 1 practice drills where he would lose a step, which in a ZBS he has help, and most ZBS prospects do not look good in 1 on 1 drills because of that
BAMFSpecialOps - January 26, 2012
I think he shoots up boards
He’s already talked about as a 2nd-3rd rounder and when the season ended people were saying 4th, and that’s before the combine where i think he’ll impress.
ChiefWarPaint - January 26, 2012
I wouldn't mind Harrison Smith in the 4th
KingChief - January 26, 2012
It's be cool...
If we could see a running list of players that the Chiefs have reportedly talked to, worked out, or interviewed during the offseason so we could get a gauge of the draft board. When compared to our draft outcome, such a list could also be used to determine the meaningfulness of these “x team talked to x player” reports. Just a thought.
Pooterius - January 26, 2012
Pioli said last year
that they interview every player at these games.
The fact that the media hears about some of them specifically doesn’t mean too much, I suspect.
Tarkus - January 26, 2012
I wonder if he asks all the players about the candy wrapper.
Pooterius - January 26, 2012
They ask if they'd rather meet Columbus or Shakespeare.
And other stupid questions like that.
Tarkus - January 26, 2012
Q: if you were stranded on a deserted island, would it better to have a knife, a gun or a bow and arrow?
A: Dani Boatwright
upamtn - January 26, 2012
Rather have a peanut and plan M&M
KingChief - January 26, 2012
KingChief - January 26, 2012
We do have one of those, we call it the draft table.
I imagine Chris is going to get it going here pretty soon. Its one of my favorite things on AP
nateforchiefs - January 26, 2012
almost time to do the Annual Who Have The Chiefs Talked To Chart
I mean really, we have nothing here, unless this is what’s supposed to be our daily …
upamtn - January 26, 2012
We need more coordinator updates.
Tarkus - January 26, 2012
Whats going on with Mike Vrabel?
nateforchiefs - January 26, 2012
Not sure
ChiefWarPaint - January 26, 2012
Good time to be upgraded huh?
Now that there is actual work to be done!
BAMFSpecialOps - January 26, 2012
Re: Best name
Bacarri Rambo is hands down the best name IMO.
Bonofied - January 26, 2012
He didn't enter the Draft
Nick Britt - January 26, 2012
Oh my bad
thought he was in this years draft. Either way, best name on the planet.
Bonofied - January 26, 2012
amazing 9 out of 10 CBS ranked players are under graduates....Still is the only senior
Masons - January 26, 2012
Harrison Smith can fill the role of white safety.
Nick Britt - January 26, 2012
Good article on Smith
http://irish.nbcsports.com/2011/08/26/harrison-smiths-long-journey/
Seems pretty similar to Sabby Piscitelli.
Nick Britt - January 26, 2012
Is that the same as a White Sale?
Kool TA - January 26, 2012
I haven't heard any of those names before.
Just get us some good young talent Mr. Pioli.
mistamic - January 26, 2012
Zebrie Sanders not looking so hot
