I didn't intend for this to turn into draft day around here but whatever. We talked about the latest 2012 NFL mock draftat SI.com which, like ESPN's Mel Kiper, has the Kansas City Chiefs selecting DT Devon Still. As I said in that post, I'm leaning towards an offensive lineman in this draft.
You have Matt Kalil out of USC, who should be one of the top few picks in the draft, as the No. 1 offensive tackle right now. Things can change as we hit the Combine, team workouts and all that but he's considered the top guy at this point and he likely won't be available when the Chiefs pick at 11 or 12.
So who's the second best offensive tackle?

A lot of people say it's Riley Reiff, who comes from a program (Iowa) that's not bad at churning out offensive linemen. Then there's Jonathan Martin out of Stanford.
And then there's Mike Adams. He's kind of all over the place in mock drafts -- as low as the late first round in some and as high as the top 12 in others. Sporting News' Russ Lande says a number of NFL scouts think Adams is a better prospect than Reiff.
It's still early in the process but what are you thinking about the second best offensive tackle in this draft? Reiff, Martin or Adams? That might be someone the Chiefs are keeping an eye on.

IMO Martin, Reiff and Kalil are equally good to great T
But the one that will be drafted will end up being the BEST one of them all.
I bet all three of those guys think they are better than the other two. So to be passed up and get drafted later only makes him play and work harder – playing with a chip on the shoulder
58 was my friend - January 27, 2012
Kalil is head and shoulders better than the other two
the guy’s Top 5 pick at the least, and might go right after Luck (before RG3)
upamtn - January 27, 2012
Yeah, its not even close
1. Kalil
(big drop)
2. Martin
3. Mike Adams
4. Reiff
Nick Britt - January 27, 2012
Did you see many/any USC games?
The little I saw of them they looked like they had plenty of NFL talent.
12t - January 27, 2012
But the one that will be drafted later (behind the other two) will end up being the BEST one of them all.
58 was my friend - January 27, 2012
Not a fan of Iowa o-lineman
Hated the Bulaga talk years back, feel similar about Reiff. If had to pick among those 3 I’d go Martin
KansasCityShuffle - January 27, 2012
Bulaga's Super Bowl ring says hello
ArrowDread - January 27, 2012
Yay a RT #5 overall
Tell him goodbye for me
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
BJ's says hello as well
ArrowDread - January 27, 2012
Oh great a big bodied weed smoker who to this day can still not 2 gap
Just what we need in a NT for our system eh?
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
Just win baby
ArrowDread - January 27, 2012
Wouldnt be with him
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
Haven't been without him.
Just a little devil’s advocate for ya.
citadelchief - January 27, 2012
We have won some!.. 17 games!
That’s over half without him!
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
Get over it
We didn’t take him at #5, lets move on.
Also, just because he’s from Iowa and you didn’t want Bulaga, doesn’t mean he’s not a good lineman, also, Bulaga has proved to be pretty good, (never wanted him, glad we got Berry).
If you watch tape, you’ll see he is better than Bulaga, and actually really good, I’d put him #2 in this draft.
Mayock has him #1, but I think that is his version this year of Berry being #2 behind Thomas, him just trying to be different
GracieKal - January 27, 2012
Or
McCoy ahead of Suh?
KansasCityShuffle - January 27, 2012
True
GracieKal - January 27, 2012
of course, when Rieff got steamrolled by OU
that knocked him down just a bit in my book
sm7600 - January 27, 2012
thats where I watched him closely and dont like him as our pick in the first round.
the great thunderlips - January 27, 2012
Reiff followed by Adams
With Martin picking up the rear
In comparison to last year:
Kalil is the Tyron Smith with better pass blocking and lesser run blocking
Reiff is Nate Solder with better technique
Adams is Gabe Carimi with higher upside
Martin is Derek Sherrod
ChiefWarPaint - January 27, 2012
interesting comparisons
stagdsp - January 27, 2012
Derek Sherrod? *perk*
SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!
upamtn - January 27, 2012
Oh no
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
Gotta wonder how many posters see this now.. and are confused beyond belief

there is a reason I don’t have a profile pic…I don’t want to admit to myself, let alone others, that I’m that dedi….crazy. I can still tell myself…at least I’m not that bad.
12t - January 27, 2012
Great, see what you've started CWP?
It’ll take weeks at a minimum to get ups to come back down out of that tree now.
You just had to go and mention Sherrod.
TRSChief - January 27, 2012
I want cookies!
upamtn - January 27, 2012
Seems like a strong year for OLmen
I’d support the typical Pioli route and trade down, especially for an OL.
MichaelMantastic - January 27, 2012
I was thinking the opposite
Nobody seems really great to me, beyond Kalil
jmcgoblue - January 27, 2012
Kalil even has his flaws
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
I trust you on that
I haven’t watched any tape on him, since it’s assumed he’ll be out of reach.
jmcgoblue - January 27, 2012
I havn't seen much because you are right he will be gone before we pick
Pretty much everyone agrees that he has the tools to be an elite pass blocker, run blocking leaves a lot to be desired as this point
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
Which ever one falls to the 2nd round
we should draft as the RT. I’m all for drafting DeCastro at #11 and one of these guys in the 2nd.
Albert/DeCastro/Hudson/Asamoah/Martin, Reiff, Adams — That’s some beef; 3 and short? No problem.
Mitul V. Patel - January 27, 2012
I don't think there's any way that any of them falls to the 2nd.
Reiff and Martin are pretty consistently put in the top 15 picks, and Adams is late 1st at worst.
citadelchief - January 27, 2012
Yeah, doubt they last
However, I agree, I’d rather go DeCastro too.
Maybe the Florida State OT, forget his name at the moment
However, I wouldn’t mind us trading back a few times and getting Cordy Glenn from Georgia, while picking up a couple picks, I think he’s going to be a stud, plus has versatility and could plug him into RT, if that becomes the bigger need after the offseason is all complete
GracieKal - January 27, 2012
Zebrie (sp?) Sanders
Just remembered
GracieKal - January 27, 2012
I'd rather see us make a splash in FA with Carl Nicks.
BUT, if that doesn’t work out, I do like a Reiff/Glenn or DeCastro/Sanders combination.
The only problem with that is it means we’re starting two rookies on our o-line. That usually isn’t a very good situation, and I’d hope that we can avoid doing that.
citadelchief - January 27, 2012
DeCastro and who cares what his name is ...
Who Cares?
really, anyone available 2nd round should be an immediate upgrade to BRich, and isn’t that the main point? (angelic smile)
upamtn - January 27, 2012
Yep, they SHOULD be.
But we find out every year that a good number of the players drafted are NOT what they should be.
citadelchief - January 27, 2012
wait, you mean we could ... like ... trade away all our high draft picks for like, say ... RG3 ... and he might NOT be Our Savior?!?
/faints
upamtn - January 27, 2012
Or we could have a repeat of the 09 draft, all those crappy picks?
/faints
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
don't start!
upamtn - January 27, 2012
You started it!
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
two rookies and a first year starter (Hudson) and I'd be delighted with that
in a couple of years we’d have THE ultimate OLine in the NFL … oh yeah
upamtn - January 27, 2012
And still have no one for the Oline to protect
Ha!
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
no worries, Stanzi is young, strong ... it'll be good for his development
upamtn - January 27, 2012
From the link in the article, it appears that Mike Adams is a safety for Cleveland
He’s 5’11" and 200 lbs so I think he would get killed against DE’s. Still may be better than BRich though.
And yes, I am just being a smartass, I know it automaticallly links the name but why pass up a chance to make fun of BRich.
Fozzyboyd - January 27, 2012
One would believe that Mike Adams could be a killer with that quickness at cut blocks!
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
Reiff and Martin project better than Adams as LTs...
so that knocks Adams down the list in my book.
I was big on Reiff, but he didn’t play very well against Oklahoma.
Martin
Reiff
Adams
citadelchief - January 27, 2012
Not big on Rokevious?
Haha he’s so terribly inconsistent.
GenericBrand - January 27, 2012
The Matt Cassel of tackles!
GenericBrand - January 27, 2012
Haha, I LOVE him as a big bruising OG.
As an OT? The game will be heading to half time before he reacts to the opening snap!
citadelchief - January 27, 2012
Yep
He would be fun as a guard even just to hear Len try to pronounce his name.
GenericBrand - January 27, 2012
According to Mayock Kalil is #2
Reiff #1.
GenericBrand - January 27, 2012
Man, I don't like disagreeing with Mayock...
But I guess he’s allowed to be wrong every now and then.
citadelchief - January 27, 2012
He always does that
McCoy over Suh
Earl over Berry
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
I know the peanut gallery will jump all over this but...
He also called Jason Peters, the best LT in the NFL the other day. Maybe tackles just aren’t his strong suit. I mean everyone has to have a weakness right?
GenericBrand - January 27, 2012
In his mind i think he looks at prospects differently
DBs hes looking for ball hawks, and linemen he likes them are more tecnically sound. I think he grades run blocking higher then most as well, where Peters comes in.
ChiefWarPaint - January 27, 2012
He does have a different approach.
He’s huge on technique. He was raving about Ricky Stanzi during the Combine last year because he was the only one who did every drill correctly.
citadelchief - January 27, 2012
I think Mike Adams big thing is the Ohio State tattoo scandal, and scandals usually hurt a players draft stock
Martin I’m not really sure about because he played next to DeCastro and that could be the Peppers playing next to Sims deal
Reiff has a bit of a mean streak and I like that in offensive and defensive linemen
KingChief - January 27, 2012
He played on the other side of the line from DeCastro
Martin-LT
DeCastro-RG
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
Yay!
ANOTHER “Value pick!” I’m certainly glad that we ALWAYS draft for value and never rip the band-aid off and FIX our franchises blasted problem of shoving back-up QBs down our throats!
Jason Drue Keith - January 27, 2012
Eric Berry would like to speak with you
GenericBrand - January 27, 2012
Eric Berry...
the SAFETY? He is playing QB next year? SWEET…He will be better then Matty Boy!
Jason Drue Keith - January 27, 2012
How is that a value pick?
Safety at #5?
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
Since 1994...
NONE of our draft picks have helped us win ONE PLAYOFF GAME! We have treated the QB position just like other positions. The QB is just an important position…It is THEE important position! I’ve been banging this drum for decades. It’s all good, we keep walking into gunfights against Marino, Kelly, Elway, Manning etc with our mighty gunslingers Kreig, Bono, Grbac and Cassel! We have NEVER learned that this is the reason for the results we have garnerd! What is the definition of insanity?
Jason Drue Keith - January 27, 2012
Yes there have been Elite QBs in that time span.. how many crappy ones?
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
There's one in New York that the Jets gave up a lot to draft.
citadelchief - January 27, 2012
we could've had The Sanchize?
oh snap!
upamtn - January 27, 2012
yeah we don't need that!
hotdog eatin’, booger wiper!
GaryfromIA - January 27, 2012
pioli i think will....
Sign a RT in FA and sign the stanford gaurd or someone else. He has known for 2 years we needed a tackle and hasn’t drafted one yet.
wolfpack0735 - January 27, 2012 via mobile
Maybe we draft the tackle anyway and sign Carl Nicks?
1. Reiff
2. Adams
3. Martin
We really need a nasty mauler. I think Reiff fits that mold much better than the other 2.
R2J_24 - January 27, 2012
Nicks and Adams would be great.
I would love a trade back.
fishhooks - January 27, 2012
Then we’d be:
6’5 ALBERT- 6’5 NICKS- 6’2 HUDSON-6’4 ASAMOAH-6’7 ADAMS….
Sh*t. Hudson is crazy under sized… But then again, so was Casey.
R2J_24 - January 27, 2012
As of now, and yes that list can change quite a bit, the list of FA tackles is less then inspiring.
GenericBrand - January 27, 2012
Yep
When Gaither is the top 3 OT’s on the list I really wonder about the FA signing…
Top 3:
Demetrius Bell
Jared Gaither
Kareem McKenzie
KSU-Chief - January 27, 2012
releasing Gaither
that still chaps my ass
tomachop - January 27, 2012
It really grinds my gears.
Tarkus - January 27, 2012
Take whoever is the best fit for RT.
I finally feel comfortable endorsing Branden Albert as our left tackle.
m.yashi - January 27, 2012
Yeah
I really like him and the work he’s put forth. He had a great radio interview on 610 and sounds like he’s a student of the position.
Brad-KC - January 27, 2012
I said it earlier 92 weeks) and I'll say it again. Mike Adams is the most ready to play OT in the draft
dubld - January 27, 2012
i agree!
fishhooks - January 27, 2012
2 weeks, not 92, oops
dubld - January 27, 2012
That was one helluva a prediction.
citadelchief - January 27, 2012
He must be Mayan
TRSChief - January 27, 2012
the world is going to end ...
upamtn - January 27, 2012
Now...
That is just a giant misconception about the Mayan calendar predicting the end of the world. What really happened was the Mayan’s only got as far as the year 2012 and then got real busy protecting themselves from a bunch of folks that rode around on horses killing everyone and never finished working on that calendar thing.
Zif - January 27, 2012
Why figure out anymore days when man-on-horse kill you now
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
I blame the horses.
TRSChief - January 27, 2012
There's lots of ways to dispute the Mayan end times hoopla but that's not one of them.
The calendar from Tortuguero site is from the 7th century. It would be 800 years later when the Spaniards rode up on horses to meet the AZTECS and further south, the INCAS.
electriclight - January 27, 2012
If they could predict the future, and the end of the world
surely they saw man-on-horse coming
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
Maybe they just figured they were wasting too much of their economy on an unnescessary government program?
citadelchief - January 27, 2012
Mike Adams
A shoulder injury sidelined him for part of the year, however, and a knee malady limited him to six games in his sophomore season. He was also suspended the first two games of the 2009 season for violating team rules, and was cited in January 2009 for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia (charges were eventually dropped) after being stopped for running a stop sign.
NO THANKS
Brad-KC - January 27, 2012
Sweet!
Maybe he’ll drop and we can get him in the 2nd
fishhooks - January 27, 2012
should fit right in with the Raiders
GaryfromIA - January 27, 2012
if they had any picks
tomachop - January 27, 2012
I hate predicting..because it never works like you think but..
Trade down a couple of spots..grab a extra 3rd. Pick Mike Adams in the first..then with the extra 3rd nab Senio Kelemete OG …he sets and learns a year just like Asamoah and Hudson did..I think Lilja has one year left on the contact…and the Cheifs are starting two rookies to start the year..
Romeo was talking with Kelemeto so..just a thought. But these never pan out..lol
cyberry - January 27, 2012
aren't starting..sorry
cyberry - January 27, 2012
How about fsu prospect Zebrie Sanders he is 6"7 325 been a starter for them since freshman year he played both left and right tackle nfldraftscout.com has him going in first or second round
Scott Haupt - January 27, 2012
He's good
just not our 1st pick good.
Guess we could trade down for him…
Brad-KC - January 27, 2012
He should still be around at our 2nd pick
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
Could be there in the 3rd, I hear he is dropping.
Crown Chief - January 27, 2012
Not a lot of possible starting OTs in this class
Or rather OTs that could start sooner rather than later
BAMFSpecialOps - January 27, 2012
interesting Burfict stuff in Fanshots
more reason to stay away from the guy
upamtn - January 27, 2012
Take Decastro
and have Mims and Sanders duke it out in camp for starting RT
ChiefRocka - January 27, 2012
I think our best play (if possible)
would be to sign Nicks and draft an OT.
Brad-KC - January 27, 2012
Curiousity
To answer the question on Tackle, I would definitely like Sanders in the second, he seems to have a suitable size and has that experience with Hudson already, that just seems like it would be a good perk going into draft day.
My question is, looking around, I was trying to figure out how much it would cost the Chiefs if they were to make a QB move for someone other than Cassel and for reasons of the Chiefs seeming status quo of staying cheap, would it cost us much penalties if we were to release Cassel?
MAllen32 - January 27, 2012
About 5 mill
Don Piolie's Consigliere - January 28, 2012
Levy Adcock
Take Decastro in the 1st, a NT in the 2nd, and get Adcock in the 3rd. He is still better than B-Rich.
