Ah, yes, an update on the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator search...
The "hot" name right now -- and by "hot" I mean a bunch of people tweeting about it -- is Brian Daboll from the Miami Dolphins. He has the connection with the New England Patriots which means fans make the obvious connection and wonder if he's coming to KC. In addition, NFL Network's Jason La Canfora tweeted that he expects Daboll to have "every shot in the world" to become the next Chiefs offensive coordinator.
So now Adam Teicher of the KC Star, who spoke to Romeo Crennel this week, has a blog post with some quotes from the Chiefs coach, including why the search may take a while. Check that out.
What caught my eye is that, while Crennel indicated he hadn't talked to Daboll -- he's still under contract with the Dolphins -- he was quoted as saying he "might" talk to him moving forward.
Is Crennel just saying that? Or do the Chiefs have their eyes set on Daboll?
We'll see if the rumor mill is right on this one. Here's Teicher's complete story with Crennel quotes.

thanks for breaking AP, Thorman ;-)
glad we’re “back” with some … yeah, it looks like, it could be, it is!
upamtn - January 27, 2012
ok, so ... Daboll
is he a “hot commodity” because the Browns and Dolphins have had such AWESOME offenses? seriously, I don’t get it …
upamtn - January 27, 2012
Must be because he has "connections"
Otherwise he has no resume or credentials to run our offense.
Matt_Grbac - January 27, 2012
No joke.
If you can’t succeed with the Browns or Dolphins, then you must really suck, and have no chance of success elsewhere in the NFL. I mean just look at all that talent they have to work with!
Tomahawk29 - January 27, 2012
to be fair, not many people are able to succeed with the Browns
trentchiefsfan - January 27, 2012
That was kinda the point...
Tomahawk29 - January 27, 2012
You forgot the sarcasm font.
Chiefsdodgerslakers2415 - January 27, 2012
Daboll
Didn’t his team beat KC this year?
trchief - January 28, 2012
reading up on Daboll
doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence. Heath Evans and Colt McCoy haven’t exactly made him sound like a decent coach or even human being. Also, why did Miami let him go considering the year Matt Moore had? That’s a headscratcher and points to problems in the locker room. I do like what he did with Matt Moore who really blossomed into a player this year that nobody thought he was going to be. Matter of fact, I’d love to see Matt Moore in KC as starting QB competition, especially if Miami goes to the GB QB or Manning in the offseason.
Nicoloco - January 28, 2012
Obviously they are looking for someone on the Patriots or Giants
Why else would it be AFTER the SB that we may get an announcement.
Here it is Senior Bowl practice/Game, and we dont have an OC to help scout. Crennel has not made any hires yet. Seriously, either he came into this job completely unprepared or nobody wants to work with the Chiefs.
Matt_Grbac - January 27, 2012
I'm inclined to think this is truth.
Tomahawk29 - January 27, 2012
You mean he was supposed to already be prepared to be our head coach?
None of that is really telling us anything. Maybe he’s taking his time to find the right person.
I don’t believe this. Let coaches (and players) be scared, and let them be afraid to be held accountable by our FO and GM If you don’t want to work hard then stay the fuck out of Arrowhead.
All I’m saying is the whole “no one wants to work with the Chiefs” rambles are ridiculous and getting very old.
Chiefs_swagger - January 27, 2012
My issue
I don’t understand why we have made no moves on our staff….NONE!
We need coaches pronto…it’s scouting time! Every day without our complete staff is a day wasted and a day we could have used scouting for FA and draft.
Matt_Grbac - January 27, 2012 via mobile
Pretty sure Pioli & Gang
will do most of the scouting. Of course, Crennel and the other couches will have say, but Pioli is supposedly a master scout and his people will also scout quite a bit. Not having a complete staff may hurt a little, but that really depends. If Crennel ends up hiring (if it is actually Crennel’s decision) someone already in the NFL, then they have probably already been scouting for guys for their current team.
However, if Crennel hires some college guys (doubtful, I’m sure that move would have been made already), then that would hurt scouting.
manofnothi - January 28, 2012
Saw the title...thought for a second we had an O-coord
Then I read on…
NJChieffan16 - January 27, 2012 via mobile
GREAT!
Another Pioliesque YES man!
Our offense next year: Run. Run, Run/Pass then Colquitt Time!!!
I really hope Charles is ALL healthy because IF they let Bowe walk, JC will be getting Larry Johnson numbers for carries! Daboll’s last 2 years he was Miami’s OC where they ranked 27th & 25th in offense! Defense better get some rest this off season! They will be on the field A LOT! Bad QB with a Bad OC=NOT GOOD!
Jason Drue Keith - January 27, 2012
What do you mean by YES man?
Tarkus - January 27, 2012
Someone really into Roger Dean's artwork
and prog rock.
cheapham - January 27, 2012
That would be me!
Woohoo! Hire
mehim!Tarkus - January 27, 2012
I don't think you need a resume either!
LadyChief - January 27, 2012
I'm close to the edge of applying.
Tarkus - January 27, 2012
Rec'd for the best comment of the thread
TRSChief - January 27, 2012
jc will be getting about what he was before.
people seem to miss that charles is constantly getting these little injuries. he can play through them, but if you really moved up his carry laod, that would probably become a massive problem. im hoping a halfback is brought in at some point in the offseason.
SDChief - January 27, 2012
Where can I submit my resume?
It sounds like we are getting desperate. I have 4 years purchasing experience in the power generation industry. Sounds like I may be qualified to run the Chiefs offense.
ExRoyalsFan - January 27, 2012
Me two...............
I have teaching experience
LadyChief - January 27, 2012
Me three.
Tomahawk29 - January 27, 2012
Do you teach your students
the difference between two, too and to? ;)
Et tu?
Tarkus - January 27, 2012

LadyChief - January 27, 2012
TOuche
Tarkus - January 27, 2012
Our yardage after 3 plays?
Wichita Chief - January 27, 2012
Where does it say that we are desperate?
Am I missing something?
Chiefs_swagger - January 27, 2012
Look, he's a student of the game!
ExRoyalsFan - January 27, 2012
OMG!
LadyChief - January 27, 2012
NICE!
Romeo, hire this man IMMEDIATELY
upamtn - January 27, 2012
Why didn't someone buy Muir a copy?
Tarkus - January 27, 2012
Clark Hunt...
forgot to give Scott Pioli THE PEN for the “Open Checkbook!” Heh!
Jason Drue Keith - January 27, 2012
I thought he was a New England outcast like Mangini?
If that’s the case and he left NE on bad terms then Id be surprised if he’s the guy. They also wanted someone to bring explosiveness to the offense and this guy is like an M80.
GenericBrand - January 27, 2012
Hoepfully we can get this done with Dabbol soon
I mean whats hold up other contract. He’s best out there runs similar system to what Haley and Weis had so I expect this to get this done soon. He’s best out there right now. Any idiots on here that dispute that don’t know any better. He made Matt Moore actually look like good starter this yr and look at how they torched our defense. Under his reign Bush went over 1000 yrds rushing for 1st time in his career and Brandon Marshall put up pro bowl numbers with over 1300 yards receiving. This guy better get this job because he can be future head coach once Romeo has retired.
joed2001 - January 27, 2012
How about...
the interweb rumor that no other OC want’s to work with our QB?
Jason Drue Keith - January 27, 2012
Have to disagree
Hue Jackson > Brian Daboll. Heck, any new OC can probably pull off a a bottom 10 offense with the guys we have which has been Dabolls ceiling up until this point.
GenericBrand - January 27, 2012
Must be those bugs..................
LadyChief - January 27, 2012
BIlly Butler is the new OC?
KC_Satchmo - January 27, 2012
Have any inside info to share?
LadyChief - January 27, 2012
he means there might be a reason you never see Daboll and Butler together ...
upamtn - January 27, 2012
Twins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe they could move to Minnesota
LadyChief - January 27, 2012
Minnesota is already full up with mediocre OCs
and 1Bs who don’t hit for enough power.
KC_Satchmo - January 27, 2012
Daboll=Haley 2.0
The more I read about Daboll the more I hate the idea of him coming here. He may still surface as a position coach. We snoozed and lost out on Cam Cameron and Mike Sherman. I think the “Earhardt-Parcells” offense is crap unless you have Tom Brady. Part of our problem is ZBS isn’t designed for “EP”, really wish we would look at someone from the Texans (Gregg Knapp) that has a ZBS background and move our offense forward.
TEXAN_CHIEF - January 27, 2012
The only two teams still playing this year
both use EP.
Just sayin.
KC_Satchmo - January 27, 2012
ESP
:)
damn Satch you made me smile!
Steve_Chiefs - January 27, 2012
Naw
I see Daboll as Haley -2.0. At least Haley had a successful OC resume. Daboll has done nothing to prove he can be successful in the position, plus has no support (that I’ve heard of) from ex-players.
This sounds like another media hyped up name. I’ll be pissed if he is selected. I thought Romeo wanted to succeed as a HC.
TXChiefan - January 27, 2012
SO...
what you are saying is that he is perfect with our QB who really hadn’t proven anything before he got here to? :-)
Jason Drue Keith - January 27, 2012
Eli Manning and Tom Brady
Kevin Gilbride has 100000000000 times more imagination than Haley too. An oc who can put together a plan that plays to our players strengths will do fine.
TEXAN_CHIEF - January 27, 2012
Brees and Roethlisberger are also in EP systems
But yes, your system is only as good as the players who run it.
KC_Satchmo - January 27, 2012
Brees/Rapist
have play callers that have their heads not located in their posteriors. I don’t think they are using the 1990 Giants playbook like the Chiefs have tried to do.
TEXAN_CHIEF - January 27, 2012
one can only hope that there is a candidate on the giants or pats and we are waiting because otherwise yeesh
SDChief - January 27, 2012
Why isn’t Hue Jackson or Al Saunders being talked about? Who the hell is this guy? Get somebody that is legit!! I’m beginning to think this is what happens when your GM is perceived as a control freak and the QB sucks balls! Maybe that’s why nobody wants to OC here
Chiefsallday25 - January 27, 2012 via mobile
I'd rather see a College OC
come in to get his shot at the NFL, than a loser from the “Patriot Way” or good ol’ boy tree. I believe that this would end up another 2 year debacle, then another house cleaning.
This would kill all SB hopes…….again!
TXChiefan - January 27, 2012
Who would you have in mind.
I’m just curious as to who would be a good prospect at OC, and possibly HC in a few years.
Hoochdawg - January 27, 2012
The Chiefs sure love that cloak and dagger crap don't they?
Kool TA - January 27, 2012
If Romeo is going to be the HC and
…Defensive Coordinator leads me to believe he wont have his hand at all in the offense. They have to bring in a big name to be the Offensive Coordinator. Give me Al Saunders back or Hue Jackson.
AhQueeNo - January 27, 2012
good hire actually!
listening to sports radio on the way home from work and they was saying how Bill Belicheck when hiring a OC had a really tough time picking either Daboll or Mcdaniels cause he thought both was great football minds,
Daboll was the D-backs coach in new england and a D-back in college when he played, they was saying because of that he knows tendencies in D-backs and some weaknesses.
Then he went to the jets, Then he went to the browns with mangini as OC they had the top 5 worst offense in both years but, the sports radio called a guy from cleveland and talked to him and they all seemed to have loved this guy there, said he got a bad rap cause one year was mangini and they had QB problems not knowing exactly who to play Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn plus no offensive weapons either, and the next year holmgren came in changing everything up just a hot mess to work with for anyone.
Then he went to miami and didnt wow anyone but sports radio called a guy from miami and the way they talked everyone down there loved him also and the work he does, like posted above turning bush into a real RB and 1000 yard RB, matt moore looking decent, from what I hear he is still under contract in miami and thats what the hold up is cause spags got fired but daboll didnt yet?
bring him in from what im hearing great hire, gets the players pumped and loves to talk to the media in fact remembers the media’s name by the first week to know them personally.
the great thunderlips - January 27, 2012
I would rather have Bill Muir than this guy.....
NFL season ticket holder - January 27, 2012
Tom Clements!
We need to be talking to this guy a lot! I hope we are… would be the amazing hire but yet it is amazingly possible.
corelando - January 28, 2012
My new guesses are: Saunders, Jackson, NYG QB coach Sullivan, Pats WR coach O'Shea, Vikes Jeff Davidson
