Good evening everyone. This is your Friday night open thread. Use it to talk about whatever you want.
Make sure you give us your victory of the week. Mine is an easy one - I turned 29-years old on Monday!
What's your victory of the week?

Glad you look at it as a victory.
I doubt you will next year!
Lucasjr5 - January 27, 2012
Yeah
I hit the big 30 in August. I’ll let you know how that goes Chris.
Sudden - January 27, 2012

Hated turning 50
5 years later, it’ s not so bad. wife doesn’t expect as much out of me anymore , so leaves more time for my Wiemaraner Gunther and I to pursue the outdoors.
Hoochdawg - January 27, 2012

LadyChief - January 27, 2012
I had an "idea" about something for AP that could be pretty cool ...

I’ve been working on this little project, which involves a lot of math. So, naturally, I made a small mistake in one of the first steps, which made my answer wrong. However, by some terrible twist of fate, the equation I came up with made sense, but I never got around to testing it because of school work.
So today I finally got around to it, and it turned out out my equation was wrong. So I’ve spent the entire afternoon trying to figure out what my mistake was. The good news is that my new equation should be right, although I haven’t tested it yet. If it doesn’t work I may have to kill somebody.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 27, 2012
I have a few candidates for you if it comes to that
upamtn - January 27, 2012
No need. It looks to be working.
The greatest feeling in the world is getting something to work after spending a ton of time trying to figure out what’s wrong.

Victory
Realized today that only two of my classes this semester require constant attention in class. Last semester I spent every second of every class listening intently to the speaker while scribbling down notes. Now, at least half the time I can kick back, listen to my professor and enjoy the wisdom, and occasionally write things down.
Sam D - January 27, 2012
I never took notes until my sophomore year.
And now I only take notes in my advanced Physics classes. Taking notes is overrated.
(Disclaimer: My GPA is not so good. Do not actually take academic advise from me)

Peppermint Patty is a cool chick
KC_Satchmo - January 27, 2012

But she’s not really one of the main characters, so I forgot about her.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 27, 2012
She is cool until she plays football with Charlie Brown.
Then she kinda turns into a heartless…well…you know. Moving the football, watching Charlie Brown fall on his arse. Terrible….then she wants to charge 5 cents for advice.

SDChief - January 27, 2012
Happens to the Pats almost every year. It's why they have so many really young coaches.
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
He can't interview without permission from us
Since it is in-division, it wouldn’t be smart to grant it.
Nick Britt - January 27, 2012
Are you sure? It’s an upward move.
ExRoyalsFan - January 27, 2012
Not technically.
It goes:
Head Coach
Assistant Coach
There is no in-between.
Nick Britt - January 27, 2012
Interesting
ExRoyalsFan - January 27, 2012
It wouldn't be smart to refuse somebody a promotion opportunity. Else, how do we get new coaches to come here?
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
exactly. position coaches are given chances to become coordinators, all part of the deal
otherwise he just leaves after his contract is up pissed off at the franchise for holding him back etc
SDChief - January 27, 2012
That said, he's near retirement age, so I have hope he wants to finish up here.
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
lets go hire john madden for dc then
Boom
niageriannit1 - January 27, 2012
Other teams are doing it to us
According to Pioli.
Nick Britt - January 27, 2012
The Rams? They didn't have a head coach, so they were just keeping the status quo till they settled things up.
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
the chiefs are sitting back and waiting for peyton manning to get released
new qb new oc
niageriannit1 - January 27, 2012
Manning is NOT an OC ... in fact, there's every liklihood he retires on March 8
upamtn - January 27, 2012
So Pioli is holding out until March 8th to hire his OCExRoyalsFan - January 27, 2012
You are forgetting how much of a tight ass our front office is
What you see as absurd and borderline insane, Pioli sees as a chance to save some green.
Nick Britt - January 27, 2012
a $20 million OC is not "value"
upamtn - January 27, 2012
Yes, but if can save $2M on not hiring an OC
He can buy himself a new office chair.
Nick Britt - January 27, 2012
ok, that makes sense
upamtn - January 27, 2012
or coffee at arrowhead for a few years
niageriannit1 - January 27, 2012
ups if manning healthy he will play some where else
the problem is the colts might not no he’s healthy enough before they got to pay the 28 mill. Manning doesn’t sound like the guy who wants to retire yet.
niageriannit1 - January 27, 2012
oh, I'm sure he doesn't want to retire yet ... but he DOES want to retire as a lifelong Colt
and Irsay isn’t about to pay him the millions that his contract specifies, so he’s going to be cut … and when he is cut, he’d be foolish NOT to retire
and that’s ASSUMING he’s completely healed, and as of now that’s not a sure thing, either
upamtn - January 27, 2012
If he is cut, then I think probably the favorites to sign him would be
the Colts.
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
now THAT would be a definite possibility ... for a ton less money and a reduced role (esp practice)
upamtn - January 27, 2012
He didn't say specifically
Just mentioned that not getting permission from other teams for certain candidates was slowing up the process a bit. Then he blamed the playoffs.
He is quickly running out of excuses, other than the obvious: people don’t want to work with him or want to get paid the entire contract they sign.
Nick Britt - January 27, 2012
That's getting old. You really think Romeo couldn't have gone somewhere else?
Or how about Zorn? Hoffman is well respected, as are Thomas and Gibbs. Any of them could quit if they really didn’t like it here.
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
Hoffman is still employed here?
Get that guy on the quickest plane to Kokomo.
Nick Britt - January 27, 2012
Not trying to be a dick
I like Romeo, but exactly how many interviews has he had for HC since his last gig. I think most people see him as a better DC prospect.
Hoochdawg - January 27, 2012
We shut down St. Louis just a couple weeks ago from talking to them about their HC spot.
GenericBrand - January 27, 2012
You think they would have hired him over Jeff Fisher?
Nick Britt - January 27, 2012
What are you actually arguing? That Romeo Crennel sucks and couldn't get a job in the NFL?
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
That he probably wasn't a realistic candidate in St. Louis
Nick Britt - January 27, 2012
Our front office thought it was realistic.

the chiefs are teaching clark hunt how to write a check for peyton manning
thats why we don’t have an oc yet
niageriannit1 - January 27, 2012
Remember, Clark learned money from Goldman Sachs,
and they bonused themselves after they took a bailout, so how cheap could he actually be?
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
saw a bit today where 21 CEO's have $100 Mil (or more, each) in Golden Parachutes
wouldn’t be nice to have a job, make untold millions, and then get that much MORE when you got fired
upamtn - January 27, 2012
No single human can be worth that.
Unless you actually invent something new to better civilization.
The whole financial sector gets my goat, anyway. Basically just keeping track of other people’s actual production.
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
I know, huh ... disgusting that kind of money going around, then those same corporations raise the prices of ... everything
all while the people doing the actual WORK of the place are making peanuts
upamtn - January 27, 2012
Used to be that the financial guys were the young scrubs sitting in a corner keeping the books for the actual entrepreneurs.
It’s our own fault that we let things get so upside down.
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
The irony, to me, is that in perfect competition, things that don't work don't survive.
To me, it’s the gummint stepping in to “right things” that creates rules that lead to these gross distortions we all despise. It’s always the unintended consequences from well-meant (perhaps) social engineering that has nothing to do with just seeing that competition is fair and unfettered.
hmills110 - January 27, 2012
When those big outfits were goin' belly-up, should've just let 'em perish.
When you bail ’em out, though, those big bonuses are still there for the taking.
hmills110 - January 27, 2012
I'm not disappointed
that we bailed out the businesses and their infrastructure. But I’m pretty pissed that we also bailed out the specific people who caused the screwups. I remember hearing that the government promised not to force any firings in businesses that we bailed out, and I thought why the hell not?!
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012

why the HELL are those white collar criminals NOT behind bars?
upamtn - January 27, 2012
They must get more votes than I do.
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
and Prof, it isn't just those bailed out companies, it's ALL of 'em
all of ‘em with those CEO’s and hundreds of millions in retirement bonuses, even whole many of us had ours stolen by the likes of Enron …
talk about entitlement! where you think than money comes from? from you, me, all of us down here in 99%-ville … dollar here, dollar there … adds up
and don’t tell me about “equal opportunity” cuz it’s BS and we all know it
thank you, I is done :-)
upamtn - January 27, 2012
one of the best pr and team moves the chiefs could do is get peyton manning signed
if healthy and gets released. season ticket sales would go threw the roof and that is something clark hunt understands
niageriannit1 - January 27, 2012
until he's blindsided by Ray Lewis and never walks again ...
… then half the football world points to the greedy Chiefs for taking advantage Manning’s name and hates us for being the franchise that took risks with his health and put him in a wheelchair
yeah, great publicity there, ya think?
upamtn - January 27, 2012
ray lewis getting close to retiring
niageriannit1 - January 27, 2012
the only difference is that peyton manning decided to play to
i would not blame the chiefs if manning got hurt
niageriannit1 - January 27, 2012
Stuck in Mexico City
Travel mate stricken with strep throat-turned-infection, which turned into a hospital admittance. May be released tomorrow afternoon, but who knows.
Ah well, still got this bottle of Mezcal…
ArrowSpread - January 27, 2012
hope friend is gooder soon!
upamtn - January 27, 2012
Likewise
Sooner he gets gooder, sooner I gets goner.
ArrowSpread - January 27, 2012
That was one letter from disaster.
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
lmao..
Mezcal makes you do weird things….
Ugh, that night still haunts me.
ArrowSpread - January 27, 2012
I've only spent just a few days in Mexico City.
Is it still raining and generally shitty?
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
Hasn't rained once in the 3 stints I've been here
And 70+ degrees every day. This week, it’s actually been pretty clear and sunny.
ArrowSpread - January 27, 2012
Damn, I guess I bring it with me then.
I really need to do something about this cynical streak.
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
Technically, the two of us are boozin' it up together.
Cheers.

Cheers, sir!

upamtn - January 27, 2012
We are going to be the last team to sign our assistants
Again…..
Nick Britt - January 27, 2012
Not sure why
This organization is great to work for.
Tell em, bossmanham!
ArrowSpread - January 27, 2012

upamtn - January 27, 2012
Ha!!!
LadyChief - January 27, 2012
Assistants are in the SB right now
It’ll be another slow gnus week or so, then shit’ll pop off.
severn58 - January 27, 2012
So Pepper Johnson or Brian Ferentz from the Pats then?
Don’t see anyone from the Giants staff fitting what we do schematically.
Nick Britt - January 27, 2012
whichever one comes with Brady
upamtn - January 27, 2012
It's a packag edeal?
LadyChief - January 27, 2012
so, your keyboard moves too!
upamtn - January 27, 2012
Specific names, I can't call it
But it’s pretty obvious to me at this point that the reason nothing’s happening is because it technically can’t. I can’t ignore the connections between Ferentz though, it’d make sense.
severn58 - January 27, 2012
then we can pop Pioli?
sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
upamtn - January 27, 2012
i got my hopes on romeo that emmitt thomas stays in kc
niageriannit1 - January 27, 2012
Unless the Chiefs are targeting someone in the Superbowl....Who knows!
Dminkc - January 27, 2012
You mean we would possibly target someone from the Patriots coaching staff?
Color me shocked!

That race made me stop watching and betting on horses. It was horrific.

yeah it was ... and props to ya, Sir
that’s a major step to take, and for the right reason!
upamtn - January 27, 2012
If his leg broke and he just fell over that would've been one thing.
But to see his leg break then watch the poor horse continue to run because its so engrained in their heads to run and end up in a crumpled mess was enough for me.

How big a POS was Sucker Punch, so much promise, so little substance
severn58 - January 27, 2012
It was like nine or ten really fricking cool shots with nothing in between.
I watched it on a plane, so I missed the subtle and uninteresting parts.
Brsrkr - January 27, 2012
I watched it at an angle
And it still sucked.
Nick Britt - January 27, 2012
try it standing on one foot , might help

Pretty disappointed, I was hoping for Sin City with dope action and hot chicks
Hot Chicks-Check
Dope Action-Eh, some cool parts. Dope, not at all.
Everything inbetween the chicks and action was a hot damn mess.

He's a kicking guru.
I’d like to add some young grasshopper who could coordinate the rest of the STs stuff. Let Hoffman do the training and evaluation, get him an assistant to do the yelling.

Yeah, he developed Succop

votw: The gold and silver ETFs I bought over Christmas are growing at a 40% annual rate, one month in.
It’s actually my long-term hedge, if the standard pension stuff goes vershizzle. Don’t have much in it, but wow, behind all the noise-noise, this sure looks like an inflationary time.

Non-VOTW
So I met this really hot girl, and I looked her up on facebook to see if she had a boyfriend, and it turns out she does, which is not too surprising. But the shocking part is that her boyfriend is really nerdy looking. I honestly would mind less if she was going out with some stud, because it would at least make sense.
On the other hand, that might mean that it wouldn’t be too hard to convince her to cheat on him. Especially with a sexy guy like me.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 27, 2012
Eh go for it
But the nerdy guy prolly has a 12" dick- why else is she with him? Or he’s super rich.
