The Chiefs on Monday Friday announced the addition of Ted Crews as the new VP of communications. He's coming from the St. Louis Rams, where he spent three years as the Senior Director of Communications. He has also worked for a pair of NFC South teams in the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers.
Since Ted doesn't play quarterback or right tackle I know some of you won't care about this news but I did find it interesting to see all the media folks praising the move by the Chiefs.
Albert Breer, NFL Network: Very happy for my good friend Ted Crews, who's leaving the Rams to take over as Chiefs VP of Communications. Great hire by KC.
Peter King, Sports Illustrated: Congrats, Ted Crews
Jason La Canfora, NFL Network: Excited to hear that Ted Crews, one of the best young PR men in the league, was named the Chiefs VP of Communications. Congrats Ted!
Darin Gantt, former Panthers reporter: Ted's one of the very best.
Jim Corbett, USA Today: Kudos to Ted Crews, announced as new KC Chiefs VP of communications, class act who will do great job after great tenure in St. Louis w Rams.
Alex Marvez, FOX Sports: Great PR move by the #Chiefs in hiring @ramstcrews as new media relations director. He should help fix some of the current image problems
Jim Trotter, Sports Illustrated: Congrats to Ted Crews on being hired as a VP of communications/PR with the Chiefs. #excellenthire
Of course, with the reports concerning the Chiefs that have come out lately, you're also gonna get some of these via Twitter: "You meant Head of Miscommunication"
Overall, though, it sounds like a win-win. Crews gets a promotion (now I wanna be a VP of something, too) and the Chiefs get a guy that is very well-liked by his peers.
Here are some quotes from Crews and GM Scott Pioli from the Chiefs website.

Well the Chiefs could use some good PR right now...
So this move makes a lot of sense.
Welcome to Kansas City Ted Crews.

Aren't you Vice President of Arrowhead Pride?
That has to count for something. Joel needs an official unofficial “working title”…right?
Chief-blinders-on - January 28, 2012
impossible ... VP's never work on Saturday and Joel's working overtime today
loved that “head of miscommunication” bit … that’s funny :-)

One of these guys is our new VP of Communications for the Kansas City Chiefs
It is hard to to find pictures of the new Chiefs head talking guy… The other is Billy Devaney.
Neither is Arrowhead Pride’s Senior Vice President of Nonsensical Debate Joel Thorman

FYI: Ted Crews is on the right in your picture
upamtn - January 28, 2012
FYI: Explain to us which side is right Ups... we are just simple folk.
He was also seen meandering with first round QB’s around draft time a couple years ago… it could be a sign.
Chief-blinders-on - January 28, 2012
yeah, a sure sign that's one QB we don't get anytime soon

From the St. Louis Media guide
There could be some changes coming at that mothership if you read into the last part of this.
Here is his full bio

It is hard to gather too much from it
because he probably wrote it, if you think about it.

wouldn't be surprised
wonder about this …
… if it translates roughly to: “ok, Sam … here’s your list of what to say, feel free to use any of these sentences as often as you like”
- it’s great to be here in St Louis
- it’s an honor to be part of this organization
- I’m looking forward to being part of the community
- I can’t wait to get started
- I really can’t talk about that right now
- I really can’t talk about that either

Not only am I the president
I’m also a customer.
What ad am I thinking of?

Victor Kiam; "I loved the razor so much I bought the company."
He actually owned the Patriots for a spell and opened a retail store in Tokyo just to protest the unfair trade practices of the Japanese.
He was a regular customer when, in a previous lifetime, I was a dining room captain in a five star hotel in Florida.

Why couldn't it be Terry Crews!?!
I guarantee that if Hunt made a Terry Crews hire as VP of Communications….ALL negative press would vanish within seconds! Lol

Does this mean we finally get to move Brandon Albert to his natural position
of kick returner/booth official?
cheapham - January 28, 2012
He looks like he is dangerously close to being 40 years old
And we know that is crossing the line when you work for Pioli and Donovan. The Chiefs don’t employ people over 40, remember?

It sounds like he thinks the Chiefs are a brutal organiztion:
Good thing he knows how to twist words…
Chief-blinders-on - January 28, 2012
Read between the lines
“I want to hate Clark Hunt, the Hunt Family, Scott Pioli, and Mark Donovan for making me come to this terrible franchise. I am terrified and disgusted to join the Soprano family and I am embarrassed by the Kansas City community and dreading getting my phone tapped by the Chiefs staff as well as being narced on by the local media.”

4th one in as many years Good Luck
chadb - January 28, 2012
wow. this is a tough job to take on right now
however if the team starts winning, which imo they will because the team is stacked if healthy outside a qb….will be easy.
SDChief - January 28, 2012
Ted Crews, welcome to your stepping stone to President of Something.
The question: do you take a promotion at another company even though you’ve heard many bad things about your new bosses? You do if you’re not planning on staying there for long anyway.
Chiefs image can’t get much worse so it’s a win-win for Mr. Crews. If he sets the ship right, congrats. If he can’t, Pioli or Donovan will likely be out and the blame will fall on them.
Chief Farmer - January 28, 2012
It could be that cut and dry...
I don’t think the Chiefs are going to start chasing their image tail though.
I’m sure they will ignore it and focus on the future of the team through the media… who knows?
Chief-blinders-on - January 28, 2012
Off Topic
anyone else tired of seeing Joel show up all over the screen in his skivies on a bear rug. the ski mask isn’t fooling me Joel.

We have decided to go with Matt Cassel as our starting quarterback next year. I want you to spruce up his image with the fans just a bit.

When a windows opens - another door closes
In another public relations department move unrelated to the hiring of Crews, long-time Manager of Football Information Brad Kuhbander (left) has turned in his two-week notice and will leave the Chiefs next week. The Hamler, Ohio native joined the team in 2001 after working at both the University of Florida and the sports information office of his alma mater Baldwin-Wallace College in Cleveland. He was the longest tenured person in the team’s PR department with 11 years of employment. Actually, at 11 years he was one of the most veteran club employees in the building.
(They actually bolded the “unrelated” word.)
electriclight - January 28, 2012
So now the Chiefs need a new
Manager of Football Information –
Brad KuhbanderDam Ups just got the editor job here… It was fun while it lasted Ups… go get em’
Truthfully, Steve_Chiefs could handle that spot.

Scott Pioli was thrice heralded by his peers...
ArrowSpread - January 28, 2012
This could be a very important hire.
If he is the guy that we are hearing about, and well respected, his hiring could be very important, with all of the negative press the Chiefs have been getting lately. My concern is that the reputation that the team is establishing may effect good players and coaches, from deciding to join the team. We need some serious damage control, and maybe he is the guy to do it!
Racyman - January 28, 2012
I thought the KC organization
was having difficulty finding quality people to work there because of the “toxic environment.”
The pitchfork and torch crowd really took one in the ass here.
neiowakcfan - January 29, 2012
This guy has to be the worst person ever.
because NO ONE who is any good would want to work with/for Scott Pioli.
/rollseyes.
