Phil Emery Is The Bears New General Manager

Phil Emery is the Chicago Bears new GM.

The Bears have officially announced that they've hired Emery, who is now the former Kansas City Chiefs director of college scouting.

Emery spent six years as an area scout for the Bears in the late 90s and early 00s so he has some familiarity.

The search started with five candidates but it got down to Emery and Jason Licht from the Patriots. In the end, Emery got the job.

This means the Chiefs are in need of a new college scouting director. GM Scott Pioli has known Emery's been a candidate for the job so I imagine he's thought about that, or perhaps has a plan in place.

It also means we can commence the "let's trade for this player on the Bears" talk.

Hmmmm
It also means we can commence the “let’s trade for this player on the Bears” talk.

Jay Cutler for Kyle Orton

It ain’t happening. For obvious reasons and more.

nope, we not going there
Really.. what Bears player would be even interesting to talk about in a trade?

I can’t think of any haha

Some people might like this guy?

Or how about this fella?

Maybe the Bears will take Cassel and Piscetelli?

Eh we have Arenas and Dex already, no need another small WR/returner

Thought about Forte, but had the knee injury and with Charles.. doesn’t make a lot of sense

Forte and Charles would be an amazing backfield

and we don’t know if Charles will be 100% either

Forte's a FA, no?
Don't think he will just walk though

If nothing else will be tagged

I think he will be tagged as well.
No need for Forte

But to not want Hester because of having Dex and Arenas is like saying we don’t want Aaron Rodgers because we have Matt Cassel.

I love Dex and Arenas

but I would make the trade in a heartbeat for Hester

Na Arenas did good, he was what #2 in punt return?

Hester is not much of a WR, and Dex is still sorta used in that role. Need to find a place for Dex or move on. Waste of pick(s)

Would make a good backfield, but he will likely be tagged...

Does it make sense for the Chiefs to trade picks for Forte? Not IMO

depends on the trade and if there were other players picks included.

but yeah, it is probably not likely.

Does it make sense though?

Why spend a high pick on a RB coming off a knee injury, that has taken the NFL abuse.. when you can pick up a few later round guys as a #2

It would depend on the deal...

But like I said, it is not likely. At this point it is all about exploring the possibilities.

There may be a few other Bears that could interest the Chiefs.

yeah work peppers into the chiefs DE
Cause he oh so fits a 2 gap 5 tech
yeah I know but players make plays
Not when they are washed out by a double team
I mean look at that Cassel trade with Vrabel

That was a complete NFL buddy trade… something like that with the Bears could now be possible.

The same thing happened with the TG buddy trade to Atlanta.

We just have to look into the possibilities.

Did you mean ones that are available?

Matt Forte and/or Marion Barber at RB, Kellen Davis at TE, Devin Hester (as PR), DJ Moore and/or Tim Jennings at CB.

As for their front 7 on D, I don’t know how Julius Peppers, Lance Briggs, Israel Idonije, etc would translate into a 3-4…aren’t the bears playing a 4-3 now?

They have have been a 4-3 for years and years

Since the quote was about trading for players, any on the roster could be talked about.

Just throwing stuff out there

I don’t know the Bears free agency situation yet… I’ll look into it.

Yes, the bears are a tampa 2 defense.

That's what I thought...

they have Lovie Smith after all.

Are there any favorites out there as a replacement?

Not going to lie, I don’t really know who these people typically are or how important they are considering most of the coaches and GM all have a say in who to draft….but GM having final say.

It would be nice to hire another draft guru

A college scouting extraordinaire… Who is out there?

Once again, here are the in house guys…
Regional Scouts – Dom Green, Jim Nagy
Area Scouts – Willie Davis, Terry Delp, Aundrae Harris, Ryan Kessenich, Jay Muraco, Pat Sperduto
College Scouting Administrator – Ryan Poles
Director of Pro Personnel – Ray Farmer
Pro Scout – Mike Borgonzi
Scouting Assistant – Ryne Nutt

If they promote from within, that is a good sign IMO.

I hear that airens dude old oc for pitsburgh is the new oc for the colts
Yep...

Apparently the Steelers are considering Caldwell now.

well marty didn't get the bucs job.
Maybe he declined?
lets see if the chiefs put the oc job in the job section of the star sunday
There goes the Chiefs Big Board
Now let's trade Dorsey for their 2nd rounder
Dorsey would be a beast in that system.
I concur with that trade. I roils happily take a 2nd round pick for Dorsey
Even a third wouldn't be to shabby

Straight up for a franchised Forte…

Leave your draft notes please
Franchise and trade Bowe to Chicago now a possibility?

Either way we have a new suitor for both Carr and Bowe should either of them hit the market

Good to see some teams moving forward with hires

Looks like Romeo is the black Friday shopper that waits until about 10am when the crowd dies down and gets whatever is left over.

Oh well….gotta be used to it by now.

Waiting to see if crooked neck colt boy could be our new OC maybe?
They may have already made the/some hires

Waiting is frustrating, I really wanted Bruce Arians…

So much for people arguing with me that he is retired…that lasted.

Oh man

After seeing him get hired by the Colts?!? I about flipped!

He was the best OC available by a long shot!

Romeo is going to shit around and end up with Daboll or some dipshit like Muir.

I’m getting very frustrated with the waiting game……every team is hiring but us!

Jim Zorn

watch it happen

shut your keyboard
Jim Zorn would be very uninspiring...

I think he is fine at QB Coach.

peyton manning oc and qb all in one
Maybe he is more concerned with scouting at the senior bowl

After all the talk about how the “OC doesn’t matter, the players make the offense”, maybe finding good draft picks is a bit more important

When you average one touchdown per month

play calling matters.

Not saying I disagree

Just throwing out some ideas tossed around on AP pretty regularly.

It would be nice to have a healthy new dose of both...

Players in the draft and free agency.

Plus, some smart additions to the Chiefs offensive staff. For the record, I am against the Chiefs not adding to the defensive staff and keeping Romeo as the DC without adding anyone at all.

At least promote someone to DC and let Romeo call the plays. Don’t tell me no one will want the job… slip them some money, they’ll come to work.

Maurice Carthon ... book'em, Dano! ;=)
if NE was out of the playoffs i would agree with u
Oh well, maybe someone better will get promoted.
If you don't have the NFL Network you are missing this face

It was funy they zoomed in on a bunch of NFL folks

there was a caption saying where their first pick in the draft was. For example a shot of Pete Carrol said he had the 11th or 12th pick in the draft. They went to Reggie McKenzie and it just said.. Raiders General Manager hahaha!

Speaking of which, I hear th Raiders are interested in trading McFadden so they can actually get some picks in in this draft

Quick..........

call the exterminator!

Russel Wilson looks like a chump out there
He is no Drew Brees at that size.
I'd take Herm back as head of college scouting ... but nothing else!
For sure

He would make an excellent GM one day if he got into the personell dept right now.

He has a very good eye for talent.
