Good morning! Today's Kansas City Chiefs news continues looking at some of the big questions the team will have to answer this offseason. Enjoy.
Crennel has received a hearty endorsement from many of his Chiefs players. That may not count for much, as Crennel acknowledged when he said, "I appreciate their support, but I don't think they sign my paycheck.
"But those players have demonstrated that they will give a strong effort for Crennel, something Pioli wanted to see during his three-game trial.
Crennel gave no indication Monday that he's anxious for the Chiefs to make their decision. He is certain to have a job offer for next season, whether it's in Kansas City or elsewhere.

Besides leading the team with 179 tackles, Johnson also added 11 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, a pair of interceptions, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery. His final statistics were impressive, but it was his leadership that impressed teammates most.
"He's more vocal and he's owning the leadership of our defense more than any other time since I've been here," Dorsey explained. "He commands the huddle and he had a tremendous year."

The Chiefs played all season without tight end Tony Moeaki and almost all of it without safety Eric Berry and running back Jamaal Charles. All tore knee ligaments and had surgery.
Coach Romeo Crennel said the timetables for each player was encouraging...
...The three players are doing their rehab together. Moeaki indicated their sessions occasionally become competitive.
"In exercise drills, I'll try to sneak in an extra 10 pounds," Moeaki said. "We're all at pretty much the same level now. It's been real nice working with them."
Chiefs Buzz: Johnson, Houston Receive Honors from KC Star
Amon Gordon and DL Jerrell Powe were flanked by KC Wolf and Chiefs Cheerleaders during the latest "wellness tour" stop at the Legacy Park Community Center. The theme of the day was focused on educating those in attendance about making healthier lifestyle choices. Together, these Chiefs representatives discussed the importance of eating right and staying active. The Chiefs contingent also led the youth in attendance through a series of health stations including an obstacle course, nutrition breakout session and a class on stress management techniques.

With a gentle nature and grandfatherly demeanor, Crennel served as a counterpoint to Haley, whose firing came the day after he was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct in a 37-10 loss to the New York Jets. The defeat had dropped the Chiefs to 5-8 on the season.
The mood abruptly changed when Crennel took charge, the wildly inconsistent performances brought into check. A team whose season to that point had been defined by devastating injuries, narrow wins and blowout defeats became more focused and more cohesive down the stretch.

In the Chiefs' overtime loss to the Raiders in Week 16, Kansas City never got the opportunity to win the game with a possession because of a 53-yard reception by Darrius Heyward-Bey early in the Raiders' first possesion of overtime.
That's how close the Chiefs were this year. Even with all the injuries. Even with all the blowout losses. Even with a head coaching change, the Chiefs were probably a coin flip away from winning the AFC West for the second straight year.
So what can the Chiefs do to get back on the right side of a .500 record in 2012?
How The Chiefs Can Return To The Playoffs In 2012 from SB Nation Kansas City
Orton will almost certainly garner a starting position in 2012 but will it be in Kansas City?
Short of offering Orton a contract he can't refuse, it is hard to envision the seven-year veteran in a Chiefs uniform in 2012 unless Cassel is either traded or outright released. Based off of general manager Scott Pioli's steadfast confidence in Cassel, convincing Pioli to admit defeat may be too much of an ego hit.

Romeo is not the answer
I still think jeff fischer is the best coach for the chiefs job.yes romeo did a good job,but you cant hire someone because the players like you. Pioli has got to get this right,or he will be next looking for work.pay romeo more money and keep him as our defensive cordinator.dont need all of this patriot way stuff. I will support who ever they choose.

Even Josh Mickey D Daniels?
Hopefully there is truth to him staying over there on that Rams coaching staff
NJChieffan16 - January 3, 2012 via mobile
It's not just about the players liking him
they actually showed that they will play for him, and did you notice that the 1 game he lost came in overtime and wasn’t a blowout by the 3rd quarter
KingChief - January 3, 2012
Chiefs beat two playoff teams all year.
Crennel was the head coach for both of games.

Things I want to see in the offseason.
Make a run at Manning when the Clots release him. I thought he would do the Colts a favor and move back his March bonus of $28 million, but I don’t think that happens now they fired Polian. I think it is better than 50/50 he is on the street before the end of March.
If Manning is not released, sign Orton and draft another QB (not necessarily in the first).
Hire Romeo as HC and find a very good OC with experience that can be responsible for handling the offfense alone, allowing RAC to focus on defense.
Release or not retain Barry Richardson, Thomas Jones, Sabby P, Anthony Becht.
Trade Glen Dorsey for whatever you can get.
Franchise Dwayne Bowe, and extend Brandon Carr.

Everything but your Manning love sounds good to me.
Dude, he’s busted. Not to hate on one of the all-time greats, but would you want him rolling in with funky nerve isues in his neck? Because that’s what we’d be getting…damaged goods.
If you want to hire him as OC, well, I’m down with that. But don’t expect a lot of runs called.
If we can get a grilled cheese sandwich and a fifth rounder for Glenn Dorsey, I say we do it. It’s not about the value for him….it’s about rewarding a team guy with a chance to blow up in a 4-3 defense in his contract year. I don’t know if we’ll ever see the guy we thought we were getting on draft day ’08, but maybe someone else (J-ville? ATL?) will.

If Manning isn't healthy they won't sign him, or can release him.
I don’t want to trade any picks for him, but if he is on the open market I don’t think it hurts to look at least.
saskwatch - January 3, 2012
Dorsey wasn't awful
look at his stats – he was 7th in the league in D-line tackles, and that’s mixed DT/DE. Only Haloti Ngata, Dometa Peko, Jared Allen, Ahtyba Rubin, Calais Campbell and Jason Pierre-Paul had more.
What hurts is he had no stats otherwise – sacks, forced fumbles, recovered fumbles, tipped passes, interceptions – nothing, zilch, nada.
I think his value is there in a 4-3 and we might be able to snag something for him.
Ochophosphate - January 3, 2012
i dont think we even have the cap space to pay Manning and re-sign Carr and Bowe (or franchise him)
That’s got to be close to 30 mil right there doesn’t it? Last I heard we were only about 20 under
Chiefs08Matt - January 3, 2012 via mobile
Cap can be managed to make it fit.
Teams that are at the cap can sign players by manipulating contracts of players already on the team.
saskwatch - January 3, 2012
Why would this team stick with Cassel?
I can’t fathom it at all. What has he done to inspire confidence in Pioli or the coaching staff? We have plenty of talent at the skill positions to make a Super Bowl run next year. One or two line replacements and a play-making quarterback makes this a dangerous offense. This reminds me of the Gannon-Grbac debacle all over again… why do some franchises repeat the same mistakes time and time again and stay second-rate despite changes in management and coaching?
Chief Farmer - January 3, 2012
Because their egos get in the way?

OT: AP won't load correctly in my browser anymore.
I get the first two articles and the Vicks’ ad, and that’s all.
Any suggestions? (Yes it’s an IE thing, computer is owned by my employing firm, proprietary software works best with IE, no Firefox allowed, blah blah blah).
Thanks for the help…
go_saleaumua - January 3, 2012
I've been having the same issue the last few weeks
First two stories, nothing on the right hand side (Posts and Shots).
I’m also at work, so I didn’t think about posting anything since I don’t see a fix possible with this being a work ’puter. Stupid work. Stupid ’puters. Stupid intergoogle.
severn58 - January 3, 2012
Trouble is, I use it for everything (appropriate).
…need to see about dowloading another browser, but I know that I can’t use my professional functions with it.
go_saleaumua - January 3, 2012
Update:Everything looks to be working like normal now.
severn58 - January 3, 2012
It is for me too...finally.
go_saleaumua - January 3, 2012
Houston is Chief's ROY
remember when we all thought Andy Studebaker was going to be a guy?
rdub - January 3, 2012
Is Andy not a guy?
Or is that short for Andrea?
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
So, if I have this straight....
We sent the two fattest guys on the team to talk to youth about healthy living?
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
If you don't eat health you turn out like us!
Roar!
Sounds like a good message to me.
ravenhawk - January 3, 2012
you can be fat and fit.
bossmanham - January 3, 2012
After watching the Green Bay game
Tom Clements has those QB’s balling like crazy and I would really like him in KC for the OC job and he can bring Matt Flynn with him
KingChief - January 3, 2012
Ya, im sure he'd take a lateral move from the best team in the league...
Chiefs08Matt - January 3, 2012 via mobile
He's thier QB coach
I’m sure he would like his chance to make and call his own plays
KingChief - January 3, 2012
Unless McDaniels is the OC...
I just don’t want Cassel back. McD is the only person to ever do anything with Cassel and that would be the only reason he should come back. Otherwise, I would prefer to see receivers on another team always catching balls behind them or 3 feet over their heads.
Fozzyboyd - January 3, 2012
He still got sacked more than anything
and had as many bad games as good. I don’t know that McDeez-Nuts did anything that spectacular for him.
He is the model of inconsistency – from game to game, from season to season. You really don’t know what you’re going to get. And this is what I will miss the least from Cassel when he’s gone.
Speaking of McDoodle, did you see the Rams/Niners game this past weekend? There were some real turd plays called on offense – I’m not sure how I feel about that coming to KC.
Ochophosphate - January 3, 2012
Yeah, I agree with all of that.
Fozzyboyd - January 3, 2012
Ya, and DJ commands your ass to move over.. When you're not lined up right! Lol..
