You know things aren't rosy when your owner has to release a statement announcing you won't be fired. That's what happening with the San Diego Chargers as team owner Dean Spanos issued a statement announcing head coach Norv Turner and GM A.J. Smith will return in 2012.
"Bottom line, I believe these two men give us the best chance to get back to the playoffs," Spanos said. "A.J. Smith is the best man to improve our roster, and Norv Turner is the best man to lead that roster on the field."
The Chargers have a franchise quarterback and a good-enough amount of talent, yet have missed the playoffs for two consecutive seasons. The Chargers appear to be slowly declining (or just staying the same) so, as a Chiefs fan, I find this to be good news.
Check out Bolts From The Blue and see what the Chargers fans are saying.

In the words of Professor Farnsworth
GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY!
sayten - January 3, 2012
So close...
It’s “good news everyone!”.
I would have rec’d ya had you gotten it right :(
Tomahawk29 - January 3, 2012
ha! so many friends who are horrified by the idea of turner and smith returning.
hilarious
at least someone like gruden isnt taking over and turning them into a legit contender as they should have been
SDChief - January 3, 2012
Yep
Buck'O - January 3, 2012
Ha!
All this guy wants to do is move this team to LA. Scandalous! HAHAHAHAHA!
Buck'O - January 3, 2012
I hope we get to reap the benefits
of another year of Nervous Norv at the helm for them.
KingChief - January 3, 2012
guess this means
Fisher will be new HC of Rams and we can probably assume that McDaniels will be on his way to KC soon
banshee_01 - January 3, 2012
I will let Piloi kick me in the nuts if they just keep that PRICK out of KC
CorFueled - January 3, 2012
or Pioli
CorFueled - January 3, 2012
Let's start a line for that
I’m second
Buck'O - January 3, 2012
Should we go all Airplane! on CorFueled?
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
The roster belongs to the GM, the coach just coaches who he is given.
Cassel is Pioli’s guy.
CorFueled - January 3, 2012
Thusly McDaniels is our ONLY option for an OC
Cassel has only succeeded under McDaniels, if we’re going to be stubborn with him we might as well give him his best shot to win
IPWT2009 - January 3, 2012
Considering the Rams fired everyone except McDaniels
I suspect he returns to Stl
jmcgoblue - January 3, 2012
I wonder if they get rid of McD...
after they sign the WR they just traded for so they didn’t waste a draft pick on him. This give them time to sign him.
MountainManMike - January 4, 2012
Maybe his best shot to win would be with the guy that made Matt Flynn a star.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
And Mike Martz has felt the wrath of Terrible Tuesday.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
he has real issues making friends among his fellow coaches
SDChief - January 3, 2012
but he resigned, he did not get fired
IPWT2009 - January 3, 2012
Oh yeah?
I just saw the headline that he was out.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Technically, he resigned.
But he also declined an extension earlier in the year. “Philosophical differences.” Like, you know, why does a team need running backs, anyway?
neiowakcfan - January 3, 2012
"Why should we ever need more than five blockers?"
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
yep
he stated a while ago that he didn’t want to return.
jmcgoblue - January 3, 2012
SUcks for the Bears. They we're fine before they lost their starting QB and then their starting RB that was more than 50% of their entire offense.
CorFueled - January 3, 2012
Excellent news for all non Chargers fans!
Norv has been terrific at taking a 14-2 team and driving them right into mediocrity – keep up the good work Norv.
aFan4Life - January 3, 2012
This really surprises me
REALLY surprises me. I thought Norv was a dead man walking for the last four weeks already. Wow.
SCKSChief - January 3, 2012
Maybe knocking the Raiders out of the playoffs saved both of them
KingChief - January 3, 2012
Typical late-season, job-saving surge.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
praise Jebow, brethren
hue back in Oakland, too… and sounds like he’s gonna have input in GM search. we just got spotted 2+ games by the rest of the division.
ExtraMetal - January 3, 2012
I'll green that. Probably true.
Falcon58 - January 3, 2012
Hue with input to the GM search?
How many first round picks does he have left to offer?
neiowakcfan - January 3, 2012
Ain't that the truth.
Rec’d.
skunk420 - January 3, 2012
why not hire Mike Mularkey and let him call plays
Romeo can go back to DC
vincent2668 - January 3, 2012
What do we think of Greg Olson OC
and Pat Morris OL Coach from the Bucs, are they damaged goods?
I thought their line was pretty dam good last year, what say you?
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
D'OH!!!!!
Good day for us :)
EricBerryYoYouScary - January 3, 2012
In other news
The Chargers are early favorites again to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl next year, per ESPN.
old_school - January 3, 2012
If I remembered correctly, ESPN stated that the chiefs didn't deserve to play the ravens
even though we had more wins than the rest of the division
