The Kansas City Chiefs season is over but the roster moves are not.
The Chiefs signed six practice squad players to futures contracts including FB Shane Bannon, OL Rob Bruggeman, LB Caleb Campbell, WR Jamar Newsome, DL Luke Patterson and DT Anthony Toribio.
The end-of-season futures contract is standard stuff. Basically, it allows the Chiefs to retain their rights before they would become free agents.
The two practice squad players not on this list are G Darryl Harris and CB (or WR) Quinten Lawrence.
Bannon was on the team's practice squad/injured list. Toribio was here last season and the others joined the Chiefs practice squad this year.

I don't see names Bowe or Carr
meh! :P
58 was my friend - January 3, 2012
can they play QB?
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
I got really excited for a split second.
Then I realized they are all practice squad guys :(
EricBerryYoYouScary - January 3, 2012
Not much else the Chiefs can do at the moment...
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
That's true.
EricBerryYoYouScary - January 3, 2012
they could sign carr and bowe...but that's too much to ask
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
I think we will see those deals done soon
Hey Joel?
When can teams start franchising players?
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
Is it the day after the Super Bowl?
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
Whoop de doo
Fozzyboyd - January 3, 2012
Not much gonna happen until we have a HC
Bleedingredandgold - January 3, 2012
Could we have found our 2nd/3rd tight end in Shane B?
CHIEFFAN82 - January 3, 2012 via mobile
It is nice to see Bannon hanging around
at one point he was cut to be moved and I thought the team had given up on him.
He was a weird pick considering how much some of us wanted Herzlich or Maehl last April.
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
Agree.
I’m pulling for him and wouldnt want the Chiefs to pick up a halfass TE mid draft if Bannon has potential
CHIEFFAN82 - January 3, 2012 via mobile
Typical PutzHolie signings, street Free Agents that add nothing to the team, Training Camp Fodder
UPYRS - January 3, 2012
Do you suggest the team just let go of all of the guys on the practice squad?
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
That would be a start, then continue the purge on the active roster After Torbio and Bannon who are these guys
UPYRS - January 3, 2012
NO Bueno..
I could see Harris, making the cut with Bannon next year. Harris was clearly one of our better lineman during preseason
CHIEFFAN82 - January 3, 2012 via mobile
Darryl Harris isn't on the list of PS players, did they sign him to the Active Roster, I agree in Pre Season, Harris showed value
UPYRS - January 3, 2012
I don't think Harris or Lawrence will be PS eligible next season
Though Lawrence showed some promise as a corner during the preseason, but he was really raw.
I am looking forward to seeing how he progressed this fall.
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
Lawrence couldn't cut it as a WR, Surely as a DB he can outdo Pissoffteli
UPYRS - January 3, 2012
He was garbage as a WR/KR/PR
but he actually showed promise and seemed to have knack for tackling.
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
He should, as many times as he was brought down,
UPYRS - January 3, 2012
You know
making up ridiculous immature names to call people is such a great way to get your point across
badassz1987 - January 3, 2012
Thank You Badassz
UPYRS - January 3, 2012
IMO Failey had a problem spotting OL talent Hmmmm Lets see who's the starting RT for the Bolts, Waters started where?
UPYRS - January 3, 2012
I wondering if we shouldn't try and bring in Pat Harris from the Bucs to coach the line.
This team needs some new blood in the coaching ranks.
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
Agree, plus some monster OLineman, Weggie is history time for Hudson to step it up
UPYRS - January 3, 2012
And say goodbye to BRich as a starter.
UPYRS - January 3, 2012
Those two things are no brainers
Right now I see the Chiefs line as:
Albert-FA-Hudson-Asamoah- Draft Pick
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
I imagine they will keep Lilja and Richardson
but only as depth…
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
Start penciling in David Mims at one of these tackle slots
B-Rich will be gone, David Mims will compete for the LT or RT slot this fall and win. Here’s my take on the OL in 2012:
LT – Albert
LG – FA
C – Hudson
RG – Asamosah
RT – Mims
The Chiefs have keep Mims protected for several reason, they were paying too much to see if Richardson was the answer at RT (nope) and to allow Mims to learn (can play both LT and RT) the NFL game. Mims is ready and as I’ve said all last year a great signing for the Chiefs.
Big Daddy Booster - January 4, 2012
He's coached zone (TE's coach in SF), power zone (MN's line coach under Childress), and man schemes (TB).
I say go for it. Morris’ got a solid pedigree.
Could he bring Greg Olson to coach quarterbacks or call plays, too? Pretty solid guy from what I’ve seen. (All on TV and the internet, of course).
go_saleaumua - January 3, 2012
I was hoping Harris would get another year
Bring on the next C/G prospect.
bh13 - January 3, 2012
he might still be back
but he has never really been impressive
The entire line was awful this past preseason.
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
What about David Mims T 6'8" 335
UPYRS - January 3, 2012
On active roster since Battle went on IR
Can’t hurt to see how he works @ RT
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
Mims has the size and reach, about 2 inches taller and 35 LBs heavier then BRich
UPYRS - January 3, 2012
Give him the right scheme, and he could destroy people.
Technique is his concern…technique and experience.
go_saleaumua - January 3, 2012
David Mims has learned the NFL technique from Muir, now he needs the experience
David Mims all kidding aside is a beast ready to be unleashed. The knock on this kid coming out of VUU was small school (level of competition) no coaching, no real technique to apply at the NFL level. Well all that has been addressed. He’s been knocking people on their ass all season, has dominated the DL (ask Dorsey) and has been blocking Hali most of the time in practice (and winning most). I think Chief fans will be shocked and delighted at his progress and potential. He just needs the playing time to learn and start dropping bodies. Go Chiefs
Big Daddy Booster - January 4, 2012
Actually on active roster
When Gaither was released
ChiefsKC - January 3, 2012
If David Mims was in the 2012 draft he would be in the top 3 rounds
David Mims was short-shafted draft day, like so many other small time prospects downgraded by NFL brass and scouts. The Chiefs were able to sign Mims on the cheap. Give David Mims 2 years and the Chiefs will have one of the premier blockers and pass protectors in the league, and his playing price will go up quickly. Hey Pioli, don’t run this guy off before he gets started good being tight. Players like Mims are unique and rare, play and pay him.
Big Daddy Booster - January 4, 2012

Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Yes
go_saleaumua - January 3, 2012
time for people to make the "here comes a super bowl" or "we're saved" comments....
amazing how toribio continues to live on.
too bad q-lawrence seemed to be a haley guy
SDChief - January 3, 2012
Yeah, people always overreact to these things.
Even though every team does it.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
there are some quality moves in there
and this list will continue to shuffle all offseason.
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
yeah i agree. i mean especially with how many players they take to camp. going to be a lot of no names
SDChief - January 3, 2012
Yeah, and with every one of those signings
will come complaints of signing someone who is not a huge name.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Is it justified if the team
signs no big names at all?
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
No.
That’s a separate issue. One has nothing to do with the other.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
So signing players has nothing to do with signing players?
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
fair enough
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
I just mean
signing these types of players has no bearing on whether or not you sign big name free agents. Even the Eagles make moves like this.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
That is how you find the diamonds
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
it was a joke
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
indeed, and i was pointing at how you look at any post on any site, take pft, on small signings...and thats what you see
SDChief - January 3, 2012
Got u
I felt singled out like Jenny McCarthy
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
Happens in baseball too.
(And no doubt other sports.)
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Super Bowl, Here we come!
Oh, wait, that’s not possible because the world is ending in 2012 which is fitting because the year Chiefs finally win it all had to be the year the world end! ;p
angrydeafman - January 3, 2012
Having Bannon signed pretty much means that McClain is not coming back. Makes me sad
readANDgold58 - January 3, 2012
That makes no sense.
They had both this past season. (Well, part of the season.)
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
just like how we wouldn't sign McClain because we drafted Bannon in the 7th?
Give it a few months.
McClain was a great addition. We should keep him
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
yes we SHOULD, but I just dont see it happening now we would not need Bannon at all if McClain was signed
readANDgold58 - January 3, 2012
Depth? Injury insurance?
Development for the future? Special teams? Another body so McClain doesn’t have to take all the camp reps? Trying Bannon as a FB/TE hybrid?
There’s all kinds of reasons we could have Bannon and McClain.
bh13 - January 3, 2012
McClain takes TJ's spot. Bannon takes McClain's spot.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Don't be sad.
Bannon is practice squad eligible for another season.
ilchiefsfan - January 3, 2012
Bannon is a practice squad player
Bringing him back gives us a back up for McClain not his replacement.
Chiefs4Life - January 3, 2012 via mobile
Oh man, it really is the offseason now.......
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
at least we're starting early
unlike last season when we gambled during the preseason
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
Is Toribio still PS eligible?
I thought he’d been with KC for too many years. They may be looking for a camp body.
Chiefs4Life - January 3, 2012 via mobile
David Mims is the one to watch for in 2012
People have drawn conclusions about David Mims based on 3 early pre-season games. The real deal comes in fall camp when he puts the NFL experience learned his first year on display. Mean, big, strong, fast, and hungry, David Mims is going to be a star.
