About a year ago at this time the Kansas City Chiefs were looking for a new offensive coordinator. And one of the names the KC Star's Kent Babb brought up was Mike McCoy, the Denver Broncos offensive coordinator. Babb indicated back then that the job likely would've been his if he wanted it.
Fast forward a year and the Chiefs might be looking for another offensive coordinator. Bill Muir reportedly "likely" to retire and McCoy's name is again being brought up as a potential candidate.
Jason La Canfora of NFL.com reports that the Chiefs could be interested in McCoy if they're unable to get Josh McDaniels, who is still under contract with the Rams (and it sounds like the Rams want to keep him). La Canfora brings up the "coach-in-waiting" idea as well. McCoy could even get some head coaching looks this year.
So we've now heard two names -- McDaniels and McCoy -- linked to a job that, at this point, isn't even available. And both those guys are employed by other teams....the NFL rumormill sure is moving fast this year.

Great idea
we could put Shane Bannon in at QB and call it good/

If the Chiefs want to give McDaniels a title like Assistant Head Coach, can the Rams keep him from getting the promotion?
The rules on getting permission to interview coaches is lost on me.
Rev. Slappy - January 3, 2012
yea someone pointed that out yesturday
they said the rule was changed specifically so they couldnt do that anymore
T_Town_CHIEFSfan - January 3, 2012
not in this case, but in general, thats too bad
SDChief - January 3, 2012
No.
Only two types of coaches for the lateral move rules: Head Coach and Assistant Coach. All assistant coaching positions are considered equal.
Of course, the Rams could give the Chiefs permission if they want to.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Is a D line coach considered the same as a D coordinator?
Both are assistant coaches but one is clearly a promotion over the other.
Again, this stuff hurts my brain.
Rev. Slappy - January 3, 2012
Yes.
Typically teams will grant permission for moves like that, though.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Think the Lambs are holding out for Vermeil Part Deux
They got a 2nd & 3rd for ""the premier football coach in the National Football League." So Josh ought to be worth a 3rd & 4th?
Kane - January 3, 2012
Most people in St. Louis would let you have McDaniels for a bag of used footballs after this past season.
etp_stl - January 3, 2012

You have to wonder if Mo will stay the Asst Head Coach...
There is a chance that he might run the offense with Romeo in charge.

Because he's flexible and creative enough to win games with Tebow at QB.
I mean, that’s like saying the Thormans won SB’s comments-of-the-month award with me and BAMF as their only commentors.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
ok, let's face it ... you need to draft a guy like Texas Chief or you and BAMF aren't going anywhere
seriously, you need Tarkus just to make the playoffs, and MNcheifsfan if you want even a ghost of a chance of making The Big One

Not many can run the option offense in the NFL and that actually leads to wins
Shows he’s innovative, and can work with the talent given in front of him.
ChiefWarPaint - January 3, 2012
give credit where it's due: John Fox and the Defense
upamtn - January 3, 2012
Don't forget Marion Barber.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Well obviously they also did a fantastic job
But how many teams change offensive philosophies mid-season and then somehow make it to the playoffs? Not many.
My main point is this, he works with the talent in front of him. He’s not a “system guy” like say Mike Martz, he actually utilizes the talent in front of him. Shows creativity, given the reigns to an actual offense like the Chiefs who knows what could happen.
Also that running game is pretty damn good too, no thanks to the QB.
ChiefWarPaint - January 3, 2012
Couldn't you say the same about Chudzinski in Carolina, then?
They didn’t make the playoffs, but he employed a somewhat unorthodox offense designed to optimize Newton’s skillset. They even actually put some real points on the board.
etp_stl - January 3, 2012
5th most in the NFL
Steve_Chiefs - January 3, 2012
Seems more successful at it than what McCoy was. Granted, Chudz had more to work with.
etp_stl - January 3, 2012
Chudz has Cam Newton, and not afraid to unleash him in the passing game
McCoy has Tebow, yeah.
ChiefWarPaint - January 3, 2012
One dude picked him and the other coached him
to 10 pass completions vs the Chiefs
Steve_Chiefs - January 3, 2012
Tebow isn't a real QB didn't you know?

ChiefWarPaint - January 3, 2012

Neither McDaniels or McCoy shoul be the New Chiefs Head Coach
and neither should be worth a draft pick in consideration for their services
Steve_Chiefs - January 3, 2012
with this, Steve, I heartily agree
upamtn - January 3, 2012

And I don’t think Chudz should be our HC either.

That sucks, giving Bannon almost assures the fact that McClain will not be back
readANDgold58 - January 3, 2012
Bannon has been around all season
a futures contract doesn’t mean he’ll be promoted from the PS.
Chief Willie Wildcat - January 3, 2012
I hope Powe gets a shot
so why not Bannon
Steve_Chiefs - January 3, 2012
Why not would be McClain being one of the best FBs in the NFL.

Orton > Cassel

staff. romeo didn’t want to speculate alot , because he hasn’t been offered the hc job. romeo also said he had not heard from muir on the retirement rumor and that rumor was new to him with regards to muir. they had howie long ask romeo a few questions.

Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
Come on man
didn’t we just go down this road. At least Matt Cassel showed a full season of promise.
Matt Flynn has three games with the best offense in the league under his thumb. He will command too much money and be what we already have with shiny new flaws that Orton and Cassel can only dream of.
Chief-blinders-on - January 3, 2012
so would you have grabbed Rodgers
after he interned for Favre?
Steve_Chiefs - January 3, 2012
rodgers proved himself. Flynn has not
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
When?
Once Favre was gone
Steve_Chiefs - January 3, 2012
when he won the SB.
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
You can't trade for him with that value.
Rodgers hadn’t proven a thing when he was given the reins in GB. He had a lot of promise and a good opportunity to learn the offense. Flynn has had several years as a backup in a good offense. He has possibilities. The question is whether or not he could adapt to a different offense easily.
etp_stl - January 3, 2012
Yeah and had a few years to start
ChiefWarPaint - January 3, 2012
Rodgers was a first round pick
that could have easily went number one overall leading up to the draft.
Matt Flynn is a seventh round pick with some promise.

LadyChief - January 3, 2012
well lets just pretend for a minute he is full of shit
Are we going to pretend like those aren’t issues for this team moving forward on a coaching search? I think it makes sense for an elite coach to be concerned over that
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 3, 2012
Like Joplin said, the QB is a legit issue,
but the spending isn’t.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
with all the orton supporters, I'm surprised that there is even a QB issue
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
because no one else thinks he can win with Orton
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 3, 2012
Doesn't pass the sniff test
Those are the same, vague reasons that I would make up off the top of my head for a coach not wanting to KC. I’m thinking it’s more likely that someone else made this up than it is that I have a mega-mind-meld with Jeff Fisher. (Plus, with the new cap rules, Clark won’t have any choice but to spend money in free agency)

saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 3, 2012
Jack Harry's sources
are probably the man with the golden voice and the dude with his pants on the ground.
KCMizzou - January 3, 2012 via mobile
i'm not saying I like the guy
But, he has more sources than you or I have
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 3, 2012
does he have more than those voices in his head?
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
I don't know about the spending, but ....
it is being reported pretty heavily that Fisher would prefer a place that has a settled QB situation. I don’t think KC qualifies right now.
etp_stl - January 3, 2012
I thought fisher wasn't a yes man. That does not compute with pioli around
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
that is also a major problem
I heard Pioli isn’t easy to work with. Not saying it’s true, but i have heard that
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 3, 2012
Bull. If Pioli only wanted yes men, he wouldn't have hired Haley in the first place.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
maybe he thought Haley was a yes man
saints_chiefsfan1979 - January 3, 2012
I read an anecdote in War Room where a young Haley talked back to Parcells.
Something about Parcells pulled all his coaches off the practice field when he wasn’t happy with the players’ effort, and Haley said to him “So we’re just giving up?” Parcells responded something like (paraphrasing from memory) “Yeah, we’re f*%&ing giving up. Like you gave up when you sucked at golf.”
If young assistant coach Haley questioned the Tuna, I don’t think he was ever any kind of yes-man.
Besides, Pioli has known him for a long time.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
sounds like a yes man
Haley: So are we giving up?
Parcells:FUCK YEA
Haley: ok
he should have went: “FUCK YOU, I’M STAYING HERE YOU NOOB. FUCK ALL OF YOU”
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
Now THAT would have been ballsy.
Parcells would not have known “noob.”
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
sorry that should have been n00b
two zeros.
But I want a HC like this…
We’re losing. HC: Alright all of you come here. We’re going to fix ourselves and win this game.
defense sucks: HC: fuck you. Get out of the game. You block him.
I hate these kind of HCs
we’re losing. HC: ok keep on doing the same thing. We can do it
if haley was the former, I wouldn’t have mind another year. Unfortunately, he was the latter
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
This year he was.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
No he would fire men like Haley... oh wait
Bigcherokeechief - January 3, 2012
Yeah, I don't think anyone's really questioning that part of the statement.
More along the lines of “things any Chiefs fan could speculate”.
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
McCoy is probably so tired of babying Tebow
That he is ready to release some fury on offense.
KCMizzou - January 3, 2012 via mobile
Good point. He might be ready for a lateral move just to get back to a conventional offense where he doesn't look so bad.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
and he doesn't have to deal with diapers
LadyChief - January 3, 2012
is he still on contract? Would be hard to hire him
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
u mean mccoy doesn't want to put his stamp on the offense
niageriannit1 - January 3, 2012
So does Michigan score tonight?
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Only in garbage time
if they keep this up
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
they're trying to pull a tebow
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
Iowa LT coming out
Yes please!
KCinIL - January 3, 2012
if your fantasy qb was palko or tebow which one would it be
niageriannit1 - January 3, 2012
tebow. I automatically get +5 points and +10 heavenly points
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
Tebow
Palko will never play again and at least I’ll have a prayer.
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
Whichever one isn't playing against our defense.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Michigan's 6'2" 285lbs center is "undersized." For college.
Respect, Wiegs.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
compared to wisconsin OL, everybody is undersized
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
LSU vs. Alabama=boring game of the year
defense, defense, defense
yawn
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
Those are the kinda games
I love, personally.
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
Defense is for people who sit and enjoy the game without multi-tasking six other things at once.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Yessir
with plenty of snack and ice cold beverage.
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
alcohol makes anything look good
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
Tell me there's no beauty in a 270lbs angry linebacker putting a grinning D-bag of a QB on his blue chip ass.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
If the linebacker is Hali
and the QB is Tebow/Rivers/whatever OB OAK overpays for…
Then yes (:
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
I may only have one beer
during games I really wanna see. Unless it gets outta hand.
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
A hard fought defensive battle is a thing of beauty
There’s a difference between that and two teams competing to see whose offense sucks more.
bh13 - January 3, 2012
yeah bring back the brawler joe phillips
mean NT for kc back in the day. until he took on the hell’s angels or they took him on. I think it was the later
niageriannit1 - January 3, 2012
I think he was beaten and robbed before he came to KC. I could be wrong.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
He was also a lawyer. Thus the meanness.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012

niageriannit1 - January 3, 2012
Sounds right.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012

He and Dandy Dan made one HELL of a team on the inside back in the ’90’s.
go_saleaumua - January 3, 2012
Go_Dan!
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012

go_saleaumua - January 3, 2012
RAC should watch the cotton bowl

Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
LOL that was pure LUCK
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
THAT was Denard.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
If #1 hadn't been talking crap to that WR, he could've intercepted that.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
but talking crap is essential to football
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
LOL LUCK STRIKES AGAIN
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
That was an INSANE fake FG okie doke
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
No way that was a planned fake.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
If I was the MI coach
I call it a fake in the press conference
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
Damn straight.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
THIS IS AWESOME
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
