Chiefs Linked To Broncos OC Mike McCoy, Again

About a year ago at this time the Kansas City Chiefs were looking for a new offensive coordinator. And one of the names the KC Star's Kent Babb brought up was Mike McCoy, the Denver Broncos offensive coordinator. Babb indicated back then that the job likely would've been his if he wanted it.

Fast forward a year and the Chiefs might be looking for another offensive coordinator. Bill Muir reportedly "likely" to retire and McCoy's name is again being brought up as a potential candidate.

Jason La Canfora of NFL.com reports that the Chiefs could be interested in McCoy if they're unable to get Josh McDaniels, who is still under contract with the Rams (and it sounds like the Rams want to keep him). La Canfora brings up the "coach-in-waiting" idea as well. McCoy could even get some head coaching looks this year.

So we've now heard two names -- McDaniels and McCoy -- linked to a job that, at this point, isn't even available. And both those guys are employed by other teams....the NFL rumormill sure is moving fast this year.

please dont bring someone in who will leave after one year
Or retire to the old folks home.
If the Chiefs want to give McDaniels a title like Assistant Head Coach, can the Rams keep him from getting the promotion?

The rules on getting permission to interview coaches is lost on me.

yea someone pointed that out yesturday

they said the rule was changed specifically so they couldnt do that anymore

not in this case, but in general, thats too bad
No.

Only two types of coaches for the lateral move rules: Head Coach and Assistant Coach. All assistant coaching positions are considered equal.

Of course, the Rams could give the Chiefs permission if they want to.

Is a D line coach considered the same as a D coordinator?

Both are assistant coaches but one is clearly a promotion over the other.

Again, this stuff hurts my brain.

Yes.
All assistant coaching positions are considered equal.

Typically teams will grant permission for moves like that, though.

Think the Lambs are holding out for Vermeil Part Deux

They got a 2nd & 3rd for ""the premier football coach in the National Football League." So Josh ought to be worth a 3rd & 4th?

Most people in St. Louis would let you have McDaniels for a bag of used footballs after this past season.
i thought you could have mcdaniels for a year supply of film
Seems to be the requirement for he and his mentor to make it over the top, doesn't it?
You have to wonder if Mo will stay the Asst Head Coach...

There is a chance that he might run the offense with Romeo in charge.

a really small one, but it is still there.
You'd think that's one of the things he learned in Cleveland.

Not to do that.

I'll leave the thinking to the Thormans
+1

Succops!
+new contract
Free AP for the Year
damn, I already sent in my check ...
I already did

Why wasn’t I told of this Free AP offer before?

obviously it's a conspiracy on the part of the capitalistic Thormans
why in the universe would we want McCoy? that makes no sense whatsoever ...
Want to bring that high-powered Denver offense to Kansas City.
Cassel would be great in the Option Offense
If by great you mean terrible.

Agreed.

Cmon man he is great in our current offense

13.7 PPG

don't you mean YPG?
Are you stupid? That would require negative numbers
Do you understand jokes?
I'm guessing the "negative numbers" comment indicates sarcasm.
yeah, it's all good
Isn't it funny when somebody else gets offended for you?

I think we have a whole fanpost dedicated to defending your honor today, don’t we Ups?

Whos offended
I am, every time I think of Tyler Palko
Oh god

I was at the game up here against the Bears. Worst/Best birthday present ever!

and I have to say it's nice that you guys uphold my honor ...

… it’s more than I’ve ever done :-)

I just took a shit in your honor.
thanks, man ... I feel SO much better now :-)
I'm actually working on one for you now
I am stupid, but we talk about it on AP
mccoy wants to try and see if the read option will work with palko

if it does we might get a #1 pick for palko

Because he's flexible and creative enough to win games with Tebow at QB.

I mean, that’s like saying the Thormans won SB’s comments-of-the-month award with me and BAMF as their only commentors.

ok, let's face it ... you need to draft a guy like Texas Chief or you and BAMF aren't going anywhere

seriously, you need Tarkus just to make the playoffs, and MNcheifsfan if you want even a ghost of a chance of making The Big One

Who's on the practice squad for that club?

I’d like to apply for the position of “offensive weapon.”

you can be pretty offensive at times ;-)

here, just sign this “futures contract” and we’ll get back to you

I'll just mark an X...

Wait, shouldn’t I read this first?

Not many can run the option offense in the NFL and that actually leads to wins

Shows he’s innovative, and can work with the talent given in front of him.

give credit where it's due: John Fox and the Defense
Don't forget Marion Barber.
Well obviously they also did a fantastic job

But how many teams change offensive philosophies mid-season and then somehow make it to the playoffs? Not many.

My main point is this, he works with the talent in front of him. He’s not a “system guy” like say Mike Martz, he actually utilizes the talent in front of him. Shows creativity, given the reigns to an actual offense like the Chiefs who knows what could happen.

Also that running game is pretty damn good too, no thanks to the QB.

Couldn't you say the same about Chudzinski in Carolina, then?

They didn’t make the playoffs, but he employed a somewhat unorthodox offense designed to optimize Newton’s skillset. They even actually put some real points on the board.

5th most in the NFL
Seems more successful at it than what McCoy was. Granted, Chudz had more to work with.
Chudz has Cam Newton, and not afraid to unleash him in the passing game

McCoy has Tebow, yeah.

One dude picked him and the other coached him

to 10 pass completions vs the Chiefs

Tebow isn't a real QB didn't you know?

Future Tight End

Does it matter

Neither McDaniels or McCoy shoul be the New Chiefs Head Coach

and neither should be worth a draft pick in consideration for their services

with this, Steve, I heartily agree
I don't think anybody is suggesting that

And I don’t think Chudz should be our HC either.

You can't trade picks for coaches anymore can you?
yes i think u can

herm edwards style

or gruden style

i heard king carl talk to gruden about the miami job

Pretty sure they changed the rule shortly after that

I could be wrong.

he's the new Kris Wilson!
so we need Newton!
I love Figs
Strawberry
Apple
sausages...I mean pear
No, I think you meant sausages

Apple sausages taste really good. You can get them from Sam’s Club.

Boy was I wrong on him

I thought for sure he wouldn’t be much, especially his first year.

You and me both.
The wildcat once led Miami to wins

Until defenses started taking them seriously.

Denver is not going to fire McCoy, so how is he going to be the Chief's OC.
That sucks, giving Bannon almost assures the fact that McClain will not be back
Bannon has been around all season

a futures contract doesn’t mean he’ll be promoted from the PS.

I hope Powe gets a shot

so why not Bannon

Why not would be McClain being one of the best FBs in the NFL.
so

Orton > Cassel
McClain > Bannon
a dead guy > McDaniels

What is your point :)

Leave the Raiders out of this

Too soon…? I’ll leave that discretion to you. I wrote a really nice piece at the time.

I heard muir might come back if romeo gets the hc job, but oviously not as oc

they will move him back to oline coach

Where did you hear that?
fox sports radio
Did it sound like speculation

or something they’d heard from a source?

compound question = no answer
they asked romeo who would be the oc if he was the head coach, and romeo said i would like to see bill muir come back next year in some capacity, not necesssary as oc. romeo said muir is one of the best oline coach in the business and wants him back on his

staff. romeo didn’t want to speculate alot , because he hasn’t been offered the hc job. romeo also said he had not heard from muir on the retirement rumor and that rumor was new to him with regards to muir. they had howie long ask romeo a few questions.

Thanks.
it could be bs but they talked to romeo for like 10 minutes

the pioli code could be in effect

I like Romeo because he says what I think before I think it.
yes its nice to see questions getting answered open and honest
I thought he was heading to sleepy town

in retirementville

I heard he wanted to spend more time with his >>>>>

grandchildren.

We heard the same thing about Charlie Weis's son

no he is an Olympic triple jump away.

Not really.

Chiefs will sign many players who don’t make the team, and he could always go back on the practice squad. They’ve carried two FBs before too.

Castille and Cox
Queue the Nick Wright sound clip

From Jamaal Charles talking about getting “Cox all up in there”.

What about Martz?
Have you seen our OL?

Could you imagine our QBs doing 7-step drops with minimum protection?

we don't need no damn Trojans for the o-Line
Bruce Matthews was good.
7 steps? La de da. How about a 1 step drop?
Not with Martz.
Martz must have

had his girlfriend stolen by a QB at some point in his life. Ever since that guy has been a OC he has been killing QB’s!!!

God no

Bears fans are rejoicing up here that his ass is gone.

I still want Chudzinski if we have to break the Asst vs Head coach logjam
I have read your logic Steve and I don't understand it...

but too each their own OC pick.

Tampa Bay or Jax likes him for Head Coach
I understand the thinking and Jacksonville likes turtle for head coach
My curiosity is peaked on Greg Olson...

I don’t want Josh McDaniels, but there really isn’t a slam dunk must have guy out there.

I like that you are thinking outside the box, but know way should he come to KC on the strenghth of Cam’s arm.

Free RGIII
How?

You better have a more realistic plan then Nick Wright

draft the wisconsin QB!!!!!!!!

he’s a mid prospect and we could pick him up cheap

I'd rather have Kellen Moore

if I am going with the short guy

how about drafting weeden? At least we can beat luck in the SB
We won't play Luck in the Super Bowl

Becuase there is no way he won’t be a Colt

Flynn
flynn=1 game and we fall in love

he reminds me of a matt cassel

Come on man

didn’t we just go down this road. At least Matt Cassel showed a full season of promise.

Matt Flynn has three games with the best offense in the league under his thumb. He will command too much money and be what we already have with shiny new flaws that Orton and Cassel can only dream of.

so would you have grabbed Rodgers

after he interned for Favre?

rodgers proved himself. Flynn has not
When?

Once Favre was gone

when he won the SB.
You can't trade for him with that value.

Rodgers hadn’t proven a thing when he was given the reins in GB. He had a lot of promise and a good opportunity to learn the offense. Flynn has had several years as a backup in a good offense. He has possibilities. The question is whether or not he could adapt to a different offense easily.

Yeah and had a few years to start
Rodgers was a first round pick

that could have easily went number one overall leading up to the draft.

Matt Flynn is a seventh round pick with some promise.

So he is Stanzi

Didnt you know he is GOD on AP! :)

because he has promise instead of failko?
I think the waterboy

has more promise than Palko!

if adam sanders played football and tackle like that

HELL YEA

I dont know have you seen him as QB for Denver?
Stanzi is at least a fifth rounder

Flynn is a couple picks from being Mr. Irrelevent

Its a joke man :)
remember, mr irrelevant

became the chiefs offensive player of the year

in a season where they scored

one and half touchdowns

It was a haley year
He might be the next Brady :)

locked in behind Rodgers

Like Rodgers was behind Favre

I trust the GB coaches to find excellent QB’s

not so much our Chiefs

are you willing to gamble the contract he is going to command?

I’d rather gamble on Peyton’s health than betting that Flynn isn’t the next Rob Johnson

compared to Cassel

I am open for anyone at the moment :)

My only hope for sanity this off-season

i would LOLZ if orton goes down and cassel leads us to the playoff
Orton has Re-signed?
he probably will..unless the bears resign him
Blows all those that said the Bears Hated him

outa the water

the bears had grossman who led them to the SB

hard to beat that

Fixed it for you
I’d rather gamble on Peyton’s health than betting that Flynn isn’t the next Rob Johnson Matt Cassel.
We should've signed Steve Bono and Elvis Grbac to be our starting QB in the 90s

I mean they both were backups to Joe Montana and Steve Young, surely they would’ve worked out. Oh wait…

Draft him at 11

very easy

hmmmm

Reality meet Steve
Steve meet reality

The dude is not NFL ready
Yeah, but he is going to shatter combine records across the board and get picked in the top two

It’s him and Luck, then a QB cliff (and not Kingsbury).

Teams will break bank to get one of the two.

Maybe

all of those teams have greater needs than a QB that needs trained

Agreed, but I just don't envision him falling

He is going to ride the hype train to the top IMO

to 11 is all we need :)
Pipe dream
Dammit I knew I forgot something
He must be ...........

The Real McCoy

wow lady... just wow
Um, no.

You’re working too hard.

I know...........

haven’t been around here much lately

You've been missed.

/Succop

Niiiiiiiiiiiiice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the old world of politics

Romney would have slapped Gingrich and Challenged him to a duel by now.

That would be GREAT TV

He tried to make a $10000 bet with Perry in the middle of a televised debate.

A man of the people.

Truly a man of the people

Looks about right!
anybody up for trent green being the OC?

he was a good QB and knew how to run the offense (until his concussion)

Does he remember?
the offense? yes. Where he is? No.
and let's get Priest Holmes to be RBs Coach

and Will Shields to be O-line coach, Willie Lanier as LB coach. Dante Hall as ST coach. and Emmit Thomas to be the DB coach

Maybe phil jackson should be the chiefs HC

did you see all his rings?

He can't match Flavor Flav's clock management skills.
hey Joel, how about a sugarbowl open thread?
Yes, every bowl game I've watched with AP so far has been a good one.
I would take McCoy

McCoy had Orton offense running good, then fox comes to town, and he some how made lemonade with Tebow.

this is just me but...

I wouldnt mind seeing one of those college OC’s come in here and work our offense into something special!! (like a boise state) you know just one of them good offenses!

in case people missed it

Jack Harry reported that Jeff Fisher is not interested in the KC job. According to his sources ,the reasons are what the chiefs have at qb and Clark Hunt not spending money in free agency

Jack Harry is a

Jack Ass

I only watch him to..........

see if his head explodes

It's funny how his hair is flat after a win and spiky after a loss.

I don’t think that’s voluntary.

i guess its been spiky alot this year
56.25% of the time.
I'm surprise that he still has hair

I mean he looks like the type that would pull his hair out for no reason

Maybe that is why.............

his face turns red and and he starts spitting at the camera

Maybe he's joined the hair club for men
I think they're antennae.

Maybe they are his true “sources.”

Aahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That explains the voices inside his head

well lets just pretend for a minute he is full of shit

Are we going to pretend like those aren’t issues for this team moving forward on a coaching search? I think it makes sense for an elite coach to be concerned over that

Like Joplin said, the QB is a legit issue,

but the spending isn’t.

with all the orton supporters, I'm surprised that there is even a QB issue
because no one else thinks he can win with Orton
Doesn't pass the sniff test

Those are the same, vague reasons that I would make up off the top of my head for a coach not wanting to KC. I’m thinking it’s more likely that someone else made this up than it is that I have a mega-mind-meld with Jeff Fisher. (Plus, with the new cap rules, Clark won’t have any choice but to spend money in free agency)

don't shoot the messanger
Didn't mean to sound critical of you lol

Just my gut reaction. Thanks for the info.

I've never

heard that!! link?? I mean I understand he doesnt spend money but, that just sounds stupid, now as far the qb situation thats understandable!!

Jack Harry's sources

are probably the man with the golden voice and the dude with his pants on the ground.

i'm not saying I like the guy

But, he has more sources than you or I have

does he have more than those voices in his head?
I don't know about the spending, but ....

it is being reported pretty heavily that Fisher would prefer a place that has a settled QB situation. I don’t think KC qualifies right now.

I thought fisher wasn't a yes man. That does not compute with pioli around
that is also a major problem

I heard Pioli isn’t easy to work with. Not saying it’s true, but i have heard that

Bull. If Pioli only wanted yes men, he wouldn't have hired Haley in the first place.
maybe he thought Haley was a yes man
I read an anecdote in War Room where a young Haley talked back to Parcells.

Something about Parcells pulled all his coaches off the practice field when he wasn’t happy with the players’ effort, and Haley said to him “So we’re just giving up?” Parcells responded something like (paraphrasing from memory) “Yeah, we’re f*%&ing giving up. Like you gave up when you sucked at golf.”

If young assistant coach Haley questioned the Tuna, I don’t think he was ever any kind of yes-man.

Besides, Pioli has known him for a long time.

sounds like a yes man

Haley: So are we giving up?
Parcells:FUCK YEA
Haley: ok

he should have went: “FUCK YOU, I’M STAYING HERE YOU NOOB. FUCK ALL OF YOU”

Now THAT would have been ballsy.

Parcells would not have known “noob.”

sorry that should have been n00b

two zeros.

But I want a HC like this…

We’re losing. HC: Alright all of you come here. We’re going to fix ourselves and win this game.

defense sucks: HC: fuck you. Get out of the game. You block him.

I hate these kind of HCs

we’re losing. HC: ok keep on doing the same thing. We can do it

if haley was the former, I wouldn’t have mind another year. Unfortunately, he was the latter

This year he was.
No he would fire men like Haley... oh wait
Yeah, I don't think anyone's really questioning that part of the statement.

More along the lines of “things any Chiefs fan could speculate”.

McCoy is probably so tired of babying Tebow

That he is ready to release some fury on offense.

Good point. He might be ready for a lateral move just to get back to a conventional offense where he doesn't look so bad.
and he doesn't have to deal with diapers
is he still on contract? Would be hard to hire him
u mean mccoy doesn't want to put his stamp on the offense
So does Michigan score tonight?
Only in garbage time

if they keep this up

they're trying to pull a tebow
Iowa LT coming out

Yes please!

if your fantasy qb was palko or tebow which one would it be
tebow. I automatically get +5 points and +10 heavenly points
Tebow

Palko will never play again and at least I’ll have a prayer.

Whichever one isn't playing against our defense.
Michigan's 6'2" 285lbs center is "undersized." For college.

Respect, Wiegs.

compared to wisconsin OL, everybody is undersized
LSU vs. Alabama=boring game of the year

defense, defense, defense
yawn

Those are the kinda games

I love, personally.

Defense is for people who sit and enjoy the game without multi-tasking six other things at once.
Yessir

with plenty of snack and ice cold beverage.

alcohol makes anything look good
Tell me there's no beauty in a 270lbs angry linebacker putting a grinning D-bag of a QB on his blue chip ass.
If the linebacker is Hali

and the QB is Tebow/Rivers/whatever OB OAK overpays for…

Then yes (:

I may only have one beer

during games I really wanna see. Unless it gets outta hand.

A hard fought defensive battle is a thing of beauty

There’s a difference between that and two teams competing to see whose offense sucks more.

yeah bring back the brawler joe phillips

mean NT for kc back in the day. until he took on the hell’s angels or they took him on. I think it was the later

I think he was beaten and robbed before he came to KC. I could be wrong.
He was also a lawyer. Thus the meanness.
how about when bam morris played for kc

mr cocaine

Alan Page.
he's a judge in minnesota right
Sounds right.
Phillips was a bad-ass.

He and Dandy Dan made one HELL of a team on the inside back in the ’90’s.

Go_Dan!
That's right :D
derron cherry ,kevin ross, loyd burruss
i heard deron cherry owns the budweiser distributorship in kc and montana

once owned the coors distributorship in kc

yes they did sal even had bill maas
your boy drove a cement truck before coming to kc
WORK ETHIC :)

That’s a KC football player, right there.

RAC should watch the cotton bowl

would give us a bunch of good option plays

LOL that was pure LUCK
THAT was Denard.
If #1 hadn't been talking crap to that WR, he could've intercepted that.
but talking crap is essential to football
LOL LUCK STRIKES AGAIN
That was an INSANE fake FG okie doke
No way that was a planned fake.
If I was the MI coach

I call it a fake in the press conference

Damn straight.
THIS IS AWESOME
Damn, now posterity's gonna think that I think Mike McCoy's awesome.
