I know I'm sounding spoiled compared to many of you but we're starting to have our first really cold weather of the season here in DC and it sucks. Sub twenty degree wind chills aren't that cold but it sure feels like it.
This is your open thread for the evening. Use it to chat about whatever you want.

there I said it. Do something about it
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
I closed your comment. Something about it, done.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
oh noez
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
This Bulls game is fuckin crazy
KCinIL - January 3, 2012
Ugh!!
I still can’t believe that we were a blocked field goal away from playing in the playoffs, at home, at arrowhead, Vs. The steelers, who we ALMOST BEAT WITH PALKO. Palko! I can’t get over it. Anyone else the same as me??
AaronMannicci - January 3, 2012
Is what it is
Frustrating yes, but what’s done is done. All we can do now is hope they get the issues fixed for next season, like we do every year.
bh13 - January 3, 2012
Yeah, I know, But I wish this week we were talking about our AFC wesat title 2 years in a row, not who they should re-sign, and who should be drafted.
AaronMannicci - January 3, 2012
And a one in a million botched snap
from being two games out of the playoffs. Shrug.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
That was a lovely way to start “Norvember”.
ExRoyalsFan - January 3, 2012
Or Marion Barber not going out of bounds
Supersexy - January 4, 2012 via mobile
This dreadful, hated picture, UGH.
Still can’t get over it.
AaronMannicci - January 3, 2012
evened the scales for the season
rivers fumble went their way, blocked kick evened it out
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
No, Rivers' fumble evened it out
after Cassel handed SD the win in the first game.
dbainter23 - January 3, 2012
weren't the chiefs down in that game
only on the chargers 48 or so when the INT happened?
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
Our best lineman, with nobody to block.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
you gotta wonder, what the hell was the front line doing
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
Getting out-schemed and out-weighed.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
so...should we hire a bunch of fat people?
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
hire the sumo wrestler from that coach comercial
niageriannit1 - January 3, 2012
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
They prefer "heavy."
And a lot of them can run sub 5.3 forties, so……
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Holy shit
What a Bulls game! D ROSE!
KCinIL - January 3, 2012
Football > Basketball
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
No shit?
Waters also wet
KCinIL - January 3, 2012
And the Sugar Bowl in on.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Is on.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
I don't care about an over-hyped exhibition game
KCinIL - January 3, 2012
The players playing look like they care.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Too bad the game doesn't matter
KCinIL - January 3, 2012
What game does?
If it mattered, it wouldn’t be called “game.”
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
But if you're trying to say you want a playoff, then yeah, I agree completely.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
I'll watch it if it's playoff-type
But I can’t get into these Bowl games. They mean nothing. They’re glorified preseason games. Can’t get into em. Not knockin people that do, just can’t get into it.
KCinIL - January 3, 2012
Pure entertainment value.
But it does bother me how sloppy some of these teams look because of the long lay off. Playoff games would fix that.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Hell yeah
What is it like a month?
KCinIL - January 3, 2012
For some, at least.
I think Alabama might have like five or six weeks this year.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
But in the playoffs.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012

No wonder our politicians suck.
ChiefWarPaint - January 3, 2012 via mobile
I'm watching football.
Feel safer?
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Yes he is sadly
Don’t really understand why.
And it’s not polls, it’s the Iowa Caucus
ChiefWarPaint - January 3, 2012 via mobile
ah, yes the caucus
my sister has worked a couple of those for some candidates on the other side of the aisle. sounds strange.
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
I'm at a loss for words.
I never would have thought he would have tied for 1st. Figured it would be Mitt and Ron really close for 1st and 2nd. He’s been dead last in polls the whole race. But since he’s the flavor of the week right before the caucus I guess that’s what happens. He’s made it onto the list of the most corrupt politicians last week. This country is so effed.
EricBerryYoYouScary - January 3, 2012
they all have had there hand out
niageriannit1 - January 3, 2012

And certainly some are worse than others and Santorum is one of the worst.

Boise locks up Petersen for five more years.
Good to see him turning down some of the bigger name schools. He probably likes being the big fish in a small pond. A marriage made in heaven.

Who does Oregon and Oklahoma State play
in the next round of the playoffs?
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
LSU and alabama
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
Can't wait to see how they match up!
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
The fan vote.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
It would be SO easy
And the schools would make even more money. Don’t understand it. Top 4 go or do top 6 with #1&2 getting “byes”. Fuckin morons
KCinIL - January 3, 2012
And they can still have bowl games
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
Yup
I don’t get it. Cuz it seems they keep this cuz of money, but wouldn’t they make even MORE money going the playoff route?
KCinIL - January 3, 2012
Here's what I think:
1. Get rid of the BCS conferences crap an make each conference equal
2. Get each conference to 12 teams so each can have a conference championship game
3. Conference game winners go to the playoffs
4. Conference game losers go to “BCS” bowls
5. Other bowls games get in where they fit in
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
And I would start to watch em if that happened
KCinIL - January 3, 2012
Read "Death to the BCS?" It's all about power.
The people in control know they could make more money, but they’d rather stay in control.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
oregon vs. baylor
would be a crazy crazy battle
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
random topic: will the NFl allow women to play?
I hope so. Some of those women tackle hard as hell
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
ha, thats a good one
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
Personal experience?

Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
yes. I used to play flag football and this woman kept tackling me....
she was married
Chiefshero - January 3, 2012
Well, that explains it.

First week of January(typically the coldest month of the year) and its 40 degrees and raining at 8:30PM. Just weird.
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
Same here in Chicago
Was 15 when I goto work(4am) I come out and the suns out and above freezing
KCinIL - January 3, 2012

how many picks for tebow againest the steelers
more or less than 3
niageriannit1 - January 3, 2012
same poll for completions
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
I'll take the over
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
They might not even let him throw it 3 times.
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
Agreed. But I still take the over.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
I'll say 2 picks and a fumble
1 of those turnovers to be takin to the house
KCinIL - January 3, 2012
He's more of a fumbler.
A lot of his passes are way too wild for the defense to get to.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Who said "He's too inaccurate to be intercepted?"
I saw that on gameday but was in lurk-only mode.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
That would be me.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Shoulda known.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Came after a pass horribly overthrown.
But even Carr (I think) couldn’t get to it, even though he was playing way behind the receiver.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
was that the one sabby had PI on?
Shanghai_Chiefs - January 3, 2012
how about when sabby had a clear path to tebow and just stood there and rushed real late
niageriannit1 - January 3, 2012
epic Spy Fail
ugh, is he cut yet??
Shanghai_Chiefs - January 3, 2012
He had a couple of good plays.
But yeah, he acts like a mimbo.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
When I make the team at safety
he will be
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
Maybe.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Was that the one
Where they showed the replay and the receiver was standing there, wide open, for several seconds and Tebow wouldn’t throw it to him until he had no choice to?
bh13 - January 3, 2012
Maybe.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
are there any vegas odds out on tebow
niageriannit1 - January 3, 2012
Yep over/under on numbre of prayers during the game is set at 14.5
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012

niageriannit1 - January 3, 2012
Soooo does anyone feel like we might just beat the Steelers at home this time around?
And then potentially face the Bengals at home in the 2nd round of the playoffs? Gaaaawd.
ExRoyalsFan - January 3, 2012
Did we get a do-over?
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Self flagall.....Self flagil.....Self flag. Don't beat yourself up, man.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012

We probably could’ve taken the Steelers at home.

To be honest, this is the first game I’ve seen all year. Real life has kept me pretty busy this year, so I haven’t been able to watch many college games.
bh13 - January 3, 2012

the o-line issues were pretty bad though
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012

Tarkus - January 3, 2012
one year removed from NFC title game
7-3 with cutler. that’s some crappy ice to be standing on.
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
Well, if you're going to put it like that...
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
he always seems close to being fired though
kind of like marvin lewis in cincinnati. after being there so long, i think any coach would be on thin ice if they haven’t won a super bowl yet. at some point you have to wonder if you might’ve plateaued with that coach at the helm.
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
what new gm will stick with an exsisting coach
niageriannit1 - January 3, 2012
Mangini stayed a year in Cleveland
when Holmgren came in
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
the bears don't need a total revamp
i think it’d be a mistake to get rid of him
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
He deserves to get fired just for how he's handled Forte.
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
fair point
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
"Spanos knows selling tickets with status quo "is going to be a challenge""
To be fair, Spanos also knows selling tickets without the status quo would be a challenge too. If San Diego just didn’t have to sell tickets their jobs would be so much easier.
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
They should hire Carl.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
The fans might be on to something.
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
Yup, we could have it worse.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Who else could that get that would be better
I’d be pissed too. I’d have been ticked for the last 3 years ever since they started underachieving amd squeeking into the post season. But now that they’re consistantly missing the postseason there aren’t that many coaches to be hired. I think the owner is too cheap to take a shot at one of the big boys and there aren’t any glaring candidates available. I feel sorry for SD because they’ve had SB talent and can’t get er did.

Yeah, I think that's about the consensus.

KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
Shouldn't you be breaking down film or something?
Did you happen to catch Mangini’s breakdown of the Chiefs’ D on ESPN’s First Tebow this morning? Pretty cool.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
I really wanted to see that
but Skip Bayless turns me away
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
Yeah, a lot of times I can't bring myself to watch either.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
It wouldn't be so bad
if he wasn’t on Tebow’s jock so much. Its a damn shame if a DJ can make a mashup of his stuff.
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
I can't even watch after one of Tebow's few good games.
It’s not so bad after he totally sucks. It’s kind of amusing hearing what excuses Bayless can come up with.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
when he threw for 202 yards
don banks said he took the passing game to new heights! i didn’t see first take this year, probably a good thing.
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
What I love is each week...
“Can [insert team here] slow down Tebow?”
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
I've already said if they find a way to beat Pitt
I’m going to have to step away from anything that covers sports for a while. It will be unbearable.
bh13 - January 3, 2012
i spent a good chunk of my mondays this season
emailing don banks and peter king to tell them how outlandish their coverage of what turned out to be a 8-8 team was. king had the audacity last week to say he was shocked at how little coverage the cardinals had gotten for their turnaround season after giving the story zero coverage all year.
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
One of the writers the other day...
was asking on Twitter why some of us are rooting for Tebow to fail. I told him so that people in the media like him would shut the hell up about him.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Yep, it's not Tebow, it's the Tebowheads.
And they’re perfectly aware of that.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
If not, they're pretty stupid.
But yeah, I don’t care about Tebow himself one way or another. I just hate the hype with a passion.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
i'm rooting for writers to use common sense
i’ve never seen a mediocre at best QB so fawned over. even with this three game losing streak, they’ve just kind of swept it under the rug; nothing to see here.
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
Yep
I’ve got nothing against Tebow, he seems like a good guy, but the massive hype around him got old before he even entered the league.
bh13 - January 3, 2012
And it wouldn't even matter how they won.
50 yards passing, he’d get all the credit.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Von Miller could break the single game sack record.
But if Tebow overthrew a pass that resulted in PI and set up the winning field goal, it would be his glory day.
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
Yep.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
von miller or aldon smith for DROTY?
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
Miller, for me.
Solid against run and pass.
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
Their D could return a couple INT's for TD's
Running backs carry the offense while Tebow throws it twice and it’d be all about how Tebow’s miraculous season continues.
bh13 - January 3, 2012
Frankly, Stephen A. Smith is just about as annoying.
He tries to be as over the top as Bayless, and it looks so ridiculous, I hate that he’s on my side.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
First Tebow?
No, I didn’t see it. He do a good job with it? I’ve seen a few of ‘em. Sometimes it’s not a great selection for his example, but when it is, I do enjoy them.
And yeah, I probably should be on some film, huh?
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
Yeah, formerly First Take.
Showed our DBs blanketing their receivers, while DJ sealed off the edge, forming a triangle around Tebow. Even while Tebow was being sacked, he marveled that our DBs remained disciplined in their coverage. He said other teams have made the mistake of leaving their guys to help out, allowing him to throw one of his prayers down field.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Ah. Wasn't a typo.
Got it now.
Well good. Glad others are starting to spot some of those things.
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
How did it take the whole NFL so long to catch on?
I’m still embarrassed for them.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
I just want him

His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012

the longer he is the QB in denver, the better for the chiefs.
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
AGREED
i can tune most anything out. lalalalalalalaa
Shanghai_Chiefs - January 3, 2012
This.
Our front seven has him on lockdown, and those receivers aren’t really good enough to beat our DB’s.
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
He didn't look real comfortable, did he?
What did he have, 8 completions in two full games?
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Not at all.
We’ve definitely got his number. If only the offense could have put up some points, we would have forced him to throw even more.
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
I know, that's really what I wanted to see.
I have think we’d have had at least three or four picks.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Yup.
But then again, that’s been the truth against a lot of teams this year. Defense isn’t innocent, but they’ve put up some damn good fights only to be let down. Would have been interesting to force a couple more teams to throw on our secondary/drop back against Tamba and Houston.
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
Ill take Flynn if he comes with Clements
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
Or Rodgers.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
I didn't get my VOTW in Friday, so I'll do it here.
As of last Thursday, I can now legally drink alcohol and gamble. Unfortunately car rental companies still don’t think I’m mature enough to do business with, and car insurance companies still think I suck at driving, but at least the government has given me approval to do as I please (as long as I don’t want to smoke pot because that shit’s dangerous).
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 3, 2012
Happy birthday, sir.
ArrowSpread - January 3, 2012
At least you've been old enough to legally kill people the last three years.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
And I've also been old enough to control a large vehical at high speeds for 5 years.
But clearly wasn’t old enough to handle penny slots.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 3, 2012
It's a whole nother world out there, kid.
ArrowSpread - January 3, 2012
Yep, our nanny state has some weird ideas about age.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Compromise.
“Hey American moms, OK if we take your babies to war? We promise we won’t let ’em drink.”
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Exactly.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Happy barfday
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
Beer is terrible.
Don’t drink it.
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
That's just evil.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Shhhhhhh...
I’m starting to wonder if I’m going to run out of it faster than I can make it. I gotta stop the young’uns from drinking their share. =)
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
Ahhhhh...
Never mind.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Wha?
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
He can have all the North American Lagers.
Deal?
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
Loggers?
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
He's a lumberjack, and he's okay.
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
Ha!
Beat me to it. (Damn…)
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Looking like another OT game
bh13 - January 3, 2012
did michigan not take a TO for a reason there?
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
already took one
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
my concentration is weak these days
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
Riley Reiff declared
This might be old but Im too lazy to read up
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
Saw it as “Breaking” earlier tonight, can’t be that old.
JComp11 - January 3, 2012
Yeah.
He, Martin, and DeCastro all declared.
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
Wow, what a catch.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
What a catch
bh13 - January 3, 2012
jinx
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
tough call to overturn
come on michigan, tech can’t be allowed to win a big game.
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
Logan Thomas doesn't look to bad!
Dminkc - January 3, 2012
In more good news
The Raiders are moving Michael Huff to CB before even deciding who their DC is going to be next year. And you thought Haley was bad for meddling in things he shouldnt?
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
Pretty much took Hue’s post game comments to mean he’s taking over everything and everyone else can deal with it.
JComp11 - January 3, 2012
Exactly!
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
He's thinking he got to the Raiders at just the right time to build his own empire.
He might be right.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
He's channeling Al Davis.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Al Davis is still living
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
I love Hue saying he wants to be involved in picking a GM.
First year head coach with an 8-8 record, who made a terrible trade that will hamstring their future, and he thinks he should have that kind of power. Wow.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Let him
all the more better for us
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
Sounds about right for the Raiders
bh13 - January 3, 2012
the raiders are amusing
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
He's thinking "Who's gonna stop me?"
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Yeah, his arrogance makes Rex Ryan look meek by comparison.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Pretty evident with his comment about what “Coach Davis” left him there to do.
JComp11 - January 3, 2012
Sounded almost cult-like.
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
I want Danny coale on the chiefs
Reminds me of jordy nelson
ChiefWarPaint - January 3, 2012 via mobile
Bad time to miss your first kick of the game
bh13 - January 3, 2012
Ah, the life of a kicker.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
He is walking home if they lose
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
party on bourbon street
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
Congrats, bh.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Heh, thanks
Was an entertaining game. Have to feel bad for the kicker.
bh13 - January 3, 2012
Yeah, what was he, 4 for 5? But he's gonna be the goat.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
Gonna be a long trip back to Blacksburg
His Royal Greatness - January 3, 2012
How about that freshman kicker for Stanford?
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
Him too
bh13 - January 3, 2012
So lets take a look at the division.
San Diego- Stuck in mediocrity with an aging team, a GM who can’t draft worth a shit and a coach that can’t keep his team motivated for at least another year. Should set them back at least a couple of seasons.
Oakland- Have Al Davis and Rex Ryan’s love child running the team and he wants to have a say and have his hands in every aspect of the team, this after mortgaging his teams future with stupiud trades. Could set them back a lot of seasons.
Broncos- Have an actual Donkey running the show, who’s now stuck with riding Tebow and using an offense that no other player can run if he gets injured. Setback at least 3-4 years.
Lets hope Pioli checks his ego at the door and gets his shit in order because this division is prime for the picking.
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
you have to imagine
elway is praying for another 6-22 performance from tebow in the playoffs.
all in all, the division is wide open and the chiefs defense might be the best unit in the whole thing.
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
Where does he go, though?
Brady Quinn? Mortgage his entire future for a QB to draft?
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
i dont know where he'd go
but he’d at least have a chance to try to move on without the fan base burning his house down.
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
There is no moving away from Tebow without someone's house getting burned to the ground.
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
That might be the only positive to come from Denver beating Pitt
They’d almost have to stick with Tebow then, even if he has another bad game.
Can’t wait to see our D continue, especially if we can keep Romeo and Carr. Houston’s improvement alone is something to be very excited about.
bh13 - January 3, 2012
i'm pumped for bailey as well
very happy the league overreacted to houston smoking a couple blunts.
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
Anybody want to get Luck a little high?
KaloPhoenix - January 3, 2012
If it means teams are dumb enough to let him fall to us
I’ll do it.
bh13 - January 3, 2012
i think he might have a few marinovich habits
niageriannit1 - January 3, 2012
Bailey definitely seemed to be getting it towards the end of the year
bh13 - January 3, 2012
Amazing that Houston
was drafted with the extra pick from moving back in the first round. If Baldwin turns into the beast I think he can, that’s going to turn into a sick trade.
Tarkus - January 3, 2012
It could turn into a draft that gave us several key pieces
Baldwin, Hudson, Houston, Bailey, Powe (I have hope for him, misplaced or not).
If Brown, Miller, Stanzi or Bannon turn into even decent depth players, that’s a heck of a draft.
bh13 - January 3, 2012
add in last year's draft
berry, mccluster, arenas, asamoah, moeaki, lewis. i’d say he’s done pretty well two years running potentially. make it three years running, and something is brewing.
BeauJackson - January 3, 2012
Nope. He's too egotistical. Fire him.
Brsrkr - January 3, 2012
put brady quinn in there
niageriannit1 - January 3, 2012
Maybe I'm incredibly stupid, but I never thought about the second part of the Broncos.
What are they going to do if Tebow gets injured early in a game?
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 3, 2012
Can McGahee throw?
GenericBrand - January 3, 2012
Figure out how to run
aa real NFL offense.
Casey Byron Adkins - January 3, 2012
shyyyyyttttttt
Don’t they have that Golden Domer… Brady..somethin’
:D
58 was my friend - January 3, 2012
