As far as I can tell, the Chiefs have three positions that are not filled: offensive coordinator, receivers and assistant offensive line coach. They don't necessarily have to fill all of those (like assistant offensive line).

As you know, we really have no idea where the Chiefs are in the search for a new offensive coordinator. Brian Daboll (
Miami Dolphins) has been mentioned. The Chiefs reportedly liked Mike Sherman before he was hired in Miami. Really, though, we don't know of any candidates at this point.
Offensive coaches on staff: Jim Zorn (quarterbacks), Bill Muir (offensive line), Bernie Parmalee (tight ends), Nick Sirianni (offensive quality control) and Maurice Carthon (assistant head coach).
Defensively, things are pretty much intact. The Chiefs website lists Crennel's title as "Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator" so I guess that's official. He already said he hopes to keep the defensive staff intact and it looks like that should happen.
Defensive coaches on staff: Romeo Crennel (defensive coordinator), Gary Gibbs (linebackers), Anthony Pleasant (defensive line), Emmitt Thomas (defensive backs), Adam Zimmer (defensive assistant/assistant linebackers) and Otis Smith (defensive quality control).
Special teams is a lot easier: Steve Hoffman is gone and Tom McMahon is the new special teams coach.
With an outside OC
Not sure how we keep Carthon, Parmalee, Sirianni, and Muir.
I guess Weis pretty much kept everyone. He hired his own TE coach in Parmalee though.
I would think an OC would want some of his own guys especially since Romeo is a defensive coach. Whoever the OC is will have a load of responsibility and should be able to work well with his positional coaches.
Matt_Grbac - January 30, 2012 via mobile
Agreed.
Tarkus - January 30, 2012
agreed
LadyChief - January 30, 2012
I thought I'd heard Parmalee was gone
Obviously that was incorrect information.

nice work, Joel ... thank you, good to see where we stand

Nice!
Wichita Chief - January 30, 2012
having now replaced the special teams coach, it seems more and more likely our new oc is on the pats or the giants.
SDChief - January 30, 2012
Yep
Some sort of blockbuster trade that sends Bowe to NE for McDaniels and three seventh round draft picks.
Aiken_Drum - January 30, 2012
that would make me very sad
upamtn - January 30, 2012
Me too
Our trade is with st Louis. That is why Jeff fisher visited here prior to taking the st louis job. He was “interviewing”
ArrowheadHunter - January 30, 2012
Yeah, we should get a 6th round pick in that trade.
Tarkus - January 30, 2012
but we could pick up another Mr Irrelevant
upamtn - January 30, 2012
We'll still have our own #7.
And since we’ll be picking 32nd each round…..
Tarkus - January 30, 2012
ouch!
cold as ice, Tark … just cold as ice
upamtn - January 30, 2012
Huh?
Tarkus - January 30, 2012
oh wait!
I thought you were referring to the guy who wears #7 and …
ok, my bad
upamtn - January 30, 2012
I would never say anything bad about that guy.
Tarkus - January 30, 2012
That would make me vomit.
Nightwolf - January 31, 2012 via mobile
Whoever the offensive coordinator winds up being
I certainly hope they are capable of running the offense. The Chiefs were basically without an offense all season long this year. Of course, part of that problem was the fact that we did not have a quarterback who could move the ball until Orton came in and did so after a total of two weeks in the system. That is a fairly damning indictment of our so-called quarterbacks. No offense, no playoffs.
G.L. - January 30, 2012
more importantly, shouldn't we have a QB capable of running the offense?
upamtn - January 30, 2012
Throwing is overrated

Absolutely! I am not holding out much hope
for that.
G.L. - January 30, 2012
The search for a new Offensive Coordinator is taking a long time
Because Pioli is looking for a competent OC willing to have Cassel as the #1 QB. It’s a non sequitur, or an oxymoron. But it seems to be reality in Kansas City.
midcalchief - January 30, 2012
Stating that very fact may get you jumped on
by some Johnny come lately pompous asses on this site. I said the same thing recently and had to listen to some know it all morons jump all over me.
G.L. - January 30, 2012
Wow
Way to promote constructive conversation. God forbid anyone have a genuine reason to disagree with you…
cheapham - January 30, 2012
I disagree!
Now.. Let’s have some constructive conversion.
chiefsfan62 - January 30, 2012 via mobile
Well, you know what opinions are like--mine included.
However, until proven otherwise, I will continue to go with the overwhelming evidence that Pioli is stubbornly refusing to upgrade at the QB position.
midcalchief - January 30, 2012
This is the first offseason in which that was a real need.
First offseason was pretty much a wash, and he was being paid. Second offseason he had went to the Pro Bowl and led the team to a division title. This offseason his contract and performance give them plenty of incentive to make a move, so we’ll see what happens.
Tarkus - January 30, 2012
yup
upamtn - January 30, 2012
relax, man ... we all have our own opinions, it's all good
upamtn - January 30, 2012
That's not a "fact", but it has been stated here plenty of times without bloodshed.
electriclight - January 30, 2012
and all we really need is ...
upamtn - January 30, 2012
Know it all moron!
Tarkus - January 30, 2012

ArrowSpread - January 30, 2012

ArrowSpread - January 30, 2012

LadyChief - January 30, 2012
So people who disagree with your are know it all morons?
And BTW, that’s not a “fact,” no matter often you state it.
Tarkus - January 30, 2012
Certainly not. I don't claim to be right all the time and
never have. One can civilly disagree without resorting to pompous asshatry to do so. Right? When someone approaches me in a manner that says they are being beligirent then I may consider them to be morons because they certainly would not have the courage to address me in such a manner in real life.
G.L. - January 30, 2012
love the "asshatry"
2nd to “douchebaggery” IMO. And no matter how things get on AP, at least its not Yahoo or ESPN (the real who’s who in douchebaggery).
Shanghai_Chiefs - January 30, 2012
Not that my sig would ever say anything like that.
Tarkus - January 30, 2012
or
because we haven’t secured the deal for Peyton Manning yet.
Peyton Manning OC/QB. Done. (if his neck still works)
kabrink - January 30, 2012
Out of the Pats&Giants coches
Giants qb coach Mike Sullivan looks the most promising. A year ago we passed on Chris Palmer his predecessor when Haley offered Palmer our qb coach job and not OC, judging by the Titans perrformance without Kenny Britt and a down year by Chris Johnson not bad. Coughlin is an ex Parcells wr coach so I would think there offense and ours have some similarities. The staff rounded out would be a plus for a 1st time coordinator as well. At least we know it wont be old man Bill Muir….snoooooooozzzzzeeeee
TEXAN_CHIEF - January 30, 2012
I agree
Mike Sullivan has a nice resume for a would-be first time OC.
Personally I dont want a 1st time OC with a very shaky offense. We have talent but no QB, we have guys coming off of injury, we have a shaky offensive line…..too much for a young gun.
If I had it my way I would do this….Hire Jim Fassel or Hue Jackson as OC. Two guys with HC, OC, and QB experience. Then let them round out the offensive positional coaches.
Then give DC to Gibbs and bring Zimmer up as full time LB coach. Then hire a young guy to be defensive assistant/apprentice.
Matt_Grbac - January 30, 2012
We do have a good mix of experience and youth on the defensive coaching staff.
Brsrkr - January 30, 2012
That actually sounds pretty good. I’d be pretty happy with Sullivan.
manofnothi - January 30, 2012
I don't see
why we don’t try to get Al Saunders back, I doubt he stays in oakland with their new head coach
Kansas City Keith - January 30, 2012
I’m not sure but I think we had a number one offense with him for a few years.
Kansas City Keith - January 30, 2012
We also promised hm the head coaching job when Dick Vermeil left.
and then reneged.
electriclight - January 30, 2012
Why can't Crennel give someone the DC title, even if he wants to control everything?
It seems like the right thing to do for your staff. Someone gets to put it on his resume.
electriclight - January 30, 2012
I suppose he could if he wanted to
upamtn - January 30, 2012
Like the Rat did with Kubiak.
Even let him call the plays after a few years, so he could further prove himself. Not bad for a rat.
Tarkus - January 30, 2012
I didn’t know Carl Peterson still works for the Chiefs?
Kansas City Keith - January 30, 2012
Al Saunders wouldnt be likely
Since the Chiefs dumped on him. Too bad, cuz I’d love to have his high-octane O back in KC!
TOUGH - January 30, 2012 via mobile
49ers D line coach
Would be my pick if Romeo was to hand off the DC title to someone. Be a good way to get a great coach on staff…
TOUGH - January 30, 2012 via mobile
The OC is what I'm worried about
QUESTION TO ALL POSTERS…Who would be your pic for OC???
TOUGH - January 30, 2012 via mobile
Jim Fassel or Hue Jackson
Matt_Grbac - January 30, 2012
Fassel still has is....lets bring him in!

Matt_Grbac - January 30, 2012
Damn if thats all it takes--throw my name in as OC--Donald Duck
NFL season ticket holder - January 30, 2012
Quack Quack!
Matt_Grbac - January 30, 2012 via mobile
BRIAN FERENTZ or CHAD O'SHEA
I hope I am wrong but these are who I think will get Scott’s approval.
NFL season ticket holder - January 30, 2012
Good move on RC's part to get a new ST coach. Beyond a few run backs, the ST has gotten worst over the last 2 years.
Not adjusting the OL after already having a blocked FG against you when the the division title was on the line——-it’s something you have to be accountable for.
NFL season ticket holder - January 30, 2012
Brian Ferentz
WAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY2 green, only two years as a position coach, tight ends at that, no thanks. If were going with a 1st time OC at least get a qb coach (Lombardi or Sullivan).
TEXAN_CHIEF - January 30, 2012
Fassel is a Fossil
He’s such a re-tread tho. Everybody knows his bag o’ tricks. Jackson might get my vote. His stock is rising…except in his pressers! Keep him away from the mics and working on the O.
TOUGH - January 30, 2012 via mobile
Fassel is a proven OC
More than we can say for some candidates.
I’m just saying he would be my personal choice IF I was making decisions, which I’m not.
I think he could do wonders for our offense. He played as a QB and coached them. He has been HC and OC. Lots of experience to draw from.
Matt_Grbac - January 30, 2012 via mobile
My Locos can't afford to lose him.
Tarkus - January 30, 2012
awesome sig line
but you really need to prioritize your allegiances brotha :)
Shanghai_Chiefs - January 30, 2012
True dat.
But I’d prefer to get an ascending coach, rather than a retread.
Tarkus - January 30, 2012
agreed
this wait is killing me.
at least Archer is back on, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Community are coming soon.
Shanghai_Chiefs - January 30, 2012
I love Archer.
Tarkus - January 30, 2012
I love Lamp.
Shanghai_Chiefs - January 30, 2012
Do you really love the lamp
or are you just looking at things in the room and saying you love them?
SCKSChief - January 31, 2012
Does ascending towards heaven count?
Cause then Muir would be your man.
I wouldn’t call Fassel a retread….I would call him a classic that you can always depend on. Sometimes getting a newer shiny toy makes for more flash and less substance. Cough Haley Cough
Matt_Grbac - January 30, 2012 via mobile
Good news
Since we interviewed Mike Sherman and HAVE NOT hired Brian Daboll that means were thinking outside the box and not just settlign for the latest Patriots retread.
TEXAN_CHIEF - January 30, 2012
I sure hope so
Daboll, IMO, would be a disaster. As would Sherman have been.
SCKSChief - January 31, 2012
Well if we are thinking outside the box...I won't be surprised to find us standing outside the box by ourselves when the dust settles.
