It's only Tuesday and I can't speak for everyone but it feels like a long week. Already. Despite this, I really am looking forward to Giants-Patriots on Super Bowl Sunday. Wednesday is a bit of a lull in Super Bowl coverage but if you're into, National Signing Day tomorrow can help fill the void.
This is your open thread for the evening. Use it to talk about whatever you want.

The week is how long it’ll take. After that it’s back to regularly scheduled programming.

Why are we still posting articles with Haley's picture?
I thought everybody hated Haley and are glad to be rid of his ilk?
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
we are
but those poor steelers fans may be trolling about tonight to find out what the first hand skinny is. :)
I thought we played the dirge for you my good man?!?! How’s the koolaid?
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
If you wish me to go away
I will.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012

hope all’s well in your corner of the universe!

Going down for the third time

Ups, Buck’O needs number two
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
Nah
time to pack it in and dig a hole.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
booo
you’re the community optimist. What gives?
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
Fresh out
Too much bad to be overcome.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
naw guy
Romeo’s in the wheel house. The players dig it. We have loads of talent. Other teams are poaching from our team’s staff. Things are headed in the right direction. It’s steady getting better!
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
Ok
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
Aww Aiken
you’re bummin’ me out
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
I'm sorry
didn’t mean to do that…maybe I should start watching soccer…

Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
Not at all
I’m waiting for your next post. I told you there was lots to be optimistic about.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
As Journey said
“Don’t stop belivin’”
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
There you go!`
I’m down with that. Chiefs are gonna find a way.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
any wish list for coordinators Aiken?
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
It simply makes no difference
The disease that this team has contracted will be it’s demise.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
Ever the optimist. ;)
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Sorry
time to go…
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
Have a good night bro.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
Polio
or as Kent Babb unleashed
Piolio?
Meh…
The Chiefs are headed for some good times if they make the right moves. The sooner you realize that the better your end of the world, Chiefs are going to win the Super Bowl offseason posts will be.
It is a time for hope. The Chiefs will pick up Manning, acquire Matt Forte and Paul Soliai on there route to win the Super Bow 2013!
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
Then again
there is the problem of an offense, Pioli’s overbearing ways will prevent anyone who thinks for themselves becoming involved with the team and we will see the team struggle for the next three years to have winning seasons and ultimately Romeo gets fired and we start, inevitably, all over again. Happy?
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
I don't think he thinks we're supposed to think
upamtn - January 31, 2012
I agree
Pioli has an image problem to deal with. Very much of his own making. But at the same time, the team is in pretty good shape.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
You mean like 7-9 shape?
I’d rather have Haley back.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
wonder if he'll catch on with the Steelers ... would be good for him
upamtn - January 31, 2012
Sure, but would it be good for the Steelers?
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
the big question ... time will tell if does land there
upamtn - January 31, 2012
Haley will find success in the NFL
It will be good to see the affect that has on his detractors.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
They will jump right back on the band wagon
and murder Pioli if he fails. Hindsight is always ______
Yep
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
Tired of bandwaggons
doesn’t anything stand for anything anymore?
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
No
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
The effect will be only one
Bad head coach, good coordinator when he’s not also head coach.
ArrowSpread - January 31, 2012
5-8
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
A really bad 5-8.
Aiken’s problem is he was rooting for Haley more than the team. I defended Haley once, till it became impossible to with the Palko disease we had.
bossmanham - January 31, 2012 via mobile
Yep.
Hey, I was rooting for Haley too, but at some point it became impossible for me to continue to do so.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
to be honest
I have that same irrational fear, but then logic kicks in and tells me that I am being silly.
In my opinion Romeo was the flavor of the moment hire, not the best hire. I worry about the Chiefs losing their first five games in a row and the “loyal” fans turning on him, putting the Chiefs in a crappy situation.
Because in all proof, Romeo is not a great Head Coach.
However, I am also an optimist. So, I will take whatever garbage the Chiefs throw at me and try and make into some sort of Super Bowl oragami Lombardi Trophy.
With the right moves this team can make this work. This defense has the potential to be great and if Jamaal can come back strong, it won’t matter if Ups is coaching this team.
A strong running game and a top tier defense in the NFL? Well, that will get you pretty dame far. Throw in the Killer B’s? Yeah, touchdown.
Next year will be great. Can’t wait for every moment of drama, heart ache and chiefsness.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
Good for you
don’t let the actual problems derail your enthusiam. i like it.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
You will come around...
Whatever your issues with the team.
The draft, free agency, new coaches, training camp, preseason.
Smelling the barbeque at Arrowhead? It isn’t so bad. It just takes sometime to get over a bs scenario with your favorite team.
The Chiefs have done a good job building this team with Todd Haley. The core is there and I want to see where it goes.
Unhappy office employees don’t get 6.4 yards per carry. That is Jamaal Charles and he is coming back in 8 months.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
The Pioli-hatred will persevere
All wrong, all the time!

Buck'O - January 31, 2012
This looks pretty cool.
‘Breaking Bad’ goes 8-bit
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
This whole thing with Todd Haley sucks...
This time last year we were a team on the upswing.
2010 AFC West Divisional Champions with a bright future and a Coach of the Year Candidate.
Now, we are waiting for new positional coaches? What a difference a year makes, I think Haley is going to find some success if he can swim through all of this recent nonsense with the Chiefs organization. I wish him nothing but the best in his job search.
It will be nice to wake up tomorrow and read about:
The Kansas City Chiefs new Offensive Coordinator is ____________.
Except with the blanks filled in, because that gnus above is what we have been doing Thorman’s.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
as long as you remember that "tomorrow" come after the Super bowl
upamtn - January 31, 2012
meh...
That is likely, but at the same time…unlikely all the same.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
The reality is that
no matter what we think, hope or desire, what has happened is real. This organization is very sick and it will now take another few years to remove the cancer. We will continue to struggle and watch mediocrity and the angst will grow. It just ain’t good.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
Wow.
Your drama goes from one extreme to the other.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Sorry
Tarkus. I wish you well.

Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
So I saw this dunk live, and I spent all of today thinking "Jesus that was a nice dunk".
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 31, 2012
lay up.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
ha!
upamtn - January 31, 2012
Yeah, a little sloppy finish.
Not quite a clean dunk.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
That's what I'm saying...
I mean, he got up there, but it’s not a dunk unless your hand makes contact with rim.
ArrowSpread - January 31, 2012
He did touch the rim.
http://www.nba.com/video/games/clippers/2012/01/31/griffin_dunk_play6.nba/
You can see it on the last replay. Close, but still counts.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 31, 2012
And if you watch the guy in the suit walking behind the basket.
That’s my reaction every time I watch it.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 31, 2012
Looks great from that angle.
From another angle, the finish is not as clean as it could be. Still posterized, though.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
you use the Paint program too?
upamtn - January 31, 2012
I don't get it.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Hahaha
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
awwwwwwwww you missed it?
there was a kickass Posterized coupla weeks ago … I think it was Carr hitting Twbow, the usual, good stuff
half hour later craig posts a picture … hand drawn using paint program (and a 3 year old kid) … it was BRILLIANT

thats just like the one he did last year, and its not a dunk, his fingertips barely touch the rim, to me thats not a dunk

Works for me.
What was the problem again?
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Heh, heh, heh, boobs!
Someone say something about Peyton or what was it? I got distracted…..Is T-boner gonna ask her if she needs cleansing?
Wichita Chief - January 31, 2012
Anybody read Texas Chief’s post on Chiefs Lengths of time for SB or playoff wins? Good info…but depressing for sure. (Sigh)…Chiefs have some pieces in place. Wish we had a better QB tho! What to do…what to do…
TOUGH - January 31, 2012 via mobile
meh ... whining about how long it's been since whatever is silly ...
there are a lot of places that they don’t even have professional football … San Antonio, Portland, St Louis … we’re fortunate to have our Chiefs, but it’s not worth crying over a toy with no batteries … at least we can still play with it, even if not all the parts work right
upamtn - January 31, 2012

upamtn - January 31, 2012
Hells Bells
This thread already sucks.
I agree with Aiken
Todd Haley’s pic hurts my heart.
The dude was not perfect but he was like me if I had the job and of course the training.
Keitzman: " I don’t think we were hard on Haley." Yeah right the kansas city Media was not hard on him, more like dismissive and ridicule. Nit picking the thing Rex Ryan does every day.
The entire 2011 season was a death dirge as we all watched from where ever Vultures hang out for Haley to be fired.
What Ever
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
Depression setting in...
NJChieffan16 - January 31, 2012
At team that horribly underachieved will do that to you.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Who underacheived?
Not Haley
Cassel was the dude with the football
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
Cassel will get Pioli fired.
I firmly and solidly believe this
NJChieffan16 - January 31, 2012
Just curious – what do you feel Pioli should have done w/ our QB situation when he made the Cassel move?
ExRoyalsFan - January 31, 2012
I applaud the move.
But at this point, sticking with him for too much longer will get him fired.
NJChieffan16 - January 31, 2012
Haley probably told Pioli
Cassel was not the ONE.
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
Haley's father did
that’s a fact :)
ExRoyalsFan - January 31, 2012
so why does everyone seem so convinced that Pioli dictates who plays then
Isn’t playing Cassel and Palko and Orton the coach’s decision?
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
The Coach can only play the roster
would your employees load software that you did not approve?
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
well no
but they sure as hell could weigh in to convince me
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
And Todd said Cassel sucks in 2009?
and asked for another QB and after all the other Crap QB’s from New England flamed out got Palko eventually in 2011.
And played him till he could start Orton but got fired the week before he was ready to go………………………….
Seems Pioli had his straw and broke Haley before he could have a chance to right the ship
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
Steve
Would you go out of your way to rub your boss’ nose in it? Give me an honest answer.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
So start the guy he tried to start and messed up his hand/wrist
Palko was the Backup QB allllllllllllllllll – Season
Pioli agreed if not chose him.
Pioli KNEW that a QB would come available to take over for Cassel when he got hurt?
Pioli made know effort that we know of to get the Cincy QB that the Raiders grabbed.
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
I'm not saying Pioli is perfect
In fact, I’m not even really defending him. He’s just as much at fault as Haley. How do you build a unit around a right-handed QB and go in with a left-handed backup? Brain-dead. But that said, do you publicly rub your boss’ nose in shit? The bottom line in my opinion is that Haley could have made better decisions with the tools he had but he didn’t and now he’s out of a job. He made his own bed and now he gets to lay in it. I for one am glad I don’t have to look forward to another year of run run pass punt Chiefs football.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
Something tells me Todd isn’t the kind of guy to make his bed of a morning.
ExRoyalsFan - January 31, 2012
Pioli hated Haley
I never read that Haley hated Pioli
Management requires a two way communication.
Pioli could have TOLD Haley that Orton or Stanzi was starting.
He did not
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
I think that decision was ultimately the coach's
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
BUCK!
sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh people … have we forgotten that Pioli hisself said in his book that Haley knew he was gonna get fired
and how did Pioli know that Haley knew a YEAR ago? way back at the combine in 2011
something’s wrong with that picture, people!
upamtn - January 31, 2012
Hey man! I never said Pioli was clean
I just don’t think Haley was a good HC. As a matter of fact, I think he was a pretty lousy HC.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
I honestly think he was trying to find himself
ie, find what would work and just trying TOO hard,, trying too many things, too much pop psych
upamtn - January 31, 2012
I agree with this statement 100%
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
Hey! You are either Team Haley or Team Pioli
And you choose NOW with no facts or substantial evidence with who is the good guy or bad guy. Hurry up!
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012
I know I know
Left or Right. Black or White. There’s no in between in this world anymore. This is what I get for trying to be rational and logical, facts be damned. I think Pioli really dammaged himself and I think Haley did as well. I think Haley paid the price for it by losing his job. Pioli, he gets one more chance just because he’s the boss.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
Buck come on
The GM gets the players. The coach decides who plays. You know this
NJChieffan16 - January 31, 2012
So what's the problem?
Haley’s gone, and the team marches on. WTF? We’re in a pretty damn good place.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
We are
Who is going to lead this piss-poor Offense?
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
peyton manning
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
Dr. Ups says he's through.
As opposed to throwing.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
nope i think he comes to kc
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
So you are telling me he has “throughn” his last pass in the NFL?
ExRoyalsFan - January 31, 2012
No, Dr. Ups is telling you that.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
ups will be the first guy to buy a manning jersey when he comes to kc
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
Im pretty sure he would since he is a fan of the guy
I am too and would love a Manning jersey
NJChieffan16 - January 31, 2012
#19 again?
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
YES
Except I didnt get to see Montana. At least win us a playoff game.
NJChieffan16 - January 31, 2012
as a long time chief fan this manning thing got montana all written over it
except the chiefs won’t be giving up draft picks
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
yeah it will go nuts if manning healthy and comes to kc
atleast clark understands the economic value of a packed arrowhead with manning
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
I be a huge fan, Manning rocks
and he ain’t playin’ again … hide n watch, people … just hide n watch
upamtn - January 31, 2012
ups i'll get u a chiefs manning jersey when he comes to kc this year
what size are u
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
ain't gonna happen
he ain’t playin’ no mo’
upamtn - January 31, 2012
and if he did, much I respect the guy, the LAST place I'd want to see him is in KC
honestly … tragedy waiting to happen
did you not read the Jason Cole article? do what those NFL doctors say mean nothing?
upamtn - January 31, 2012
Have they personally examined him?
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
no, but neither did any of the doctors who opined that he COULD play again
what they DID say is that with the surgery he did have, he would taking a huge risk if did play again
that was the neck surgery, bulging disk issue … you know, spinal cord, kind of an important part of the human body
upamtn - January 31, 2012
So they're all speculating.
Which is what I’ve said all along, but you present your speculation as fact.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
true, but tell me ...
why is it that MY speculation is “wrong” but the speculation of someone else is “right”
that’s what kills me about this place … some things we can “agree to disgree” on … others not so much
upamtn - January 31, 2012
I'm only saying you're wrong
in being so rigid about what you think will happen, as if there’s no other possibility.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
it looks like manning got the itch to keep playing and is working every day towards that goal,
i don’t see him playing for the colts, if healthy, the chiefs will be stupied if they don’t sign mannin if healthy and willing to come to kc
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
nig, I know he WANTS to play, absolutely
he’s a fierce competitor … he wants it, I know that full well, and I know he’s throwing and working on it, but all reports I’ve seen lately are that his strength isn’t coming back and he’s simply not gonna be ready for at least another 6 months, if then (notice … IF … then)
all of which is above and beyond extra risk due to the surgery (which is a separate issue)
upamtn - January 31, 2012
but that would mean I'm wrong and come on, man ... can't have that happen, right? ;-)
upamtn - January 31, 2012
Your opinion might be right.
That you don’t know it’s an opinion is wrong, though. :)
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
right, my ...
wait, what???
never mind … I now need a map
upamtn - January 31, 2012
Yep and Favre was retired the first time for good
and Michael Jordan was only going to play baseball.
Joe Montana was done in 1991 and Aiken will never post optimism again.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
Ha!
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
I'm still waiting
I’m honestly so tired of speculating. I’ll pontificate once the hire is made :) Until then, I’ll be damned if I’m going to be bummed about my favorite team.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
Who said bummed
I just hate that history gets to be written by the un-informed and the angry.
Haley was a good head coach for the Chiefs.
4-12, 10-6, and 5-8 after a 2-12 season is progress
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
sure he made progress
he did some things very right. But in a multi-million dollar organization with the powers that be, he also did some things very very wrong. And he ultimately paid the price for them.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
What did he DO wrong?
and no you don’t get to Assume he rubbed his bosses nose in mistakes.
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
He coached like shit when it came down to the games
He treated the players like a tyrant. He regularly freaked out on the sidelines. He game planned like a bum. His playcalling was abysmal. He couldn’t make an in-game adjustment to save his life. All of this is well documented and has been discussed ad nausium right here on AP.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
Damn
could any of that be more subjective?
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
I could lie and tell you it was all duckies and bunnies
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
dinner!
upamtn - January 31, 2012
Buck, you talkin' about the guy who took the players to a movie?
or the one who watched them play cornhole in the locker room?
upamtn - January 31, 2012
He acted like most 3rd year head coaches?
This team needed a BOOT up its Ass
He did it and now Romeo gets to be the good guy.
Let’s see how we do now.
Last thing I heard is Coughlin is an Asshole and Belichick is worse
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
read where the Giants had to be in bed asleep at 9 PM the night before game vs Niners
not one of them is bitchin’ about it
upamtn - January 31, 2012
Vermeil tried that in his first SB.
Didn’t work very well. They were so tight, they could barely move. Meanwhile the Raiders partied and then kicked ass.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
You really think that?
I felt Haley got way too soft by his third year. I wanted more boots up the ass, but instead all I heard was about how much he liked everybody. And some of the players said he was just like another player on the team.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
they had earned that
well except Cassel
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
It looked to me
like he changed his tune in year 3 and was much nicer to his players than the previous 2 years. If he was consistent he’s have more credibility but every year there was something different. His problem was that his biggest success came in year 2 when he had an OC. Then he reverted and the team regressed. This was a huge mistake IMO. Subjective or not.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
valid yes and no?
wonder … did Haley changing cause the team to change? or vice versa?
just a thought … random
upamtn - January 31, 2012
Weis Quit
he was not fired.
and it is the same thing
Weis did not like Cassel as a QB
Haley did not like Cassel as a QB
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
We all were just fine with Cassel at QB after 2010
Except for H2E, Craig, and the naysayers we all trashed for even doubting Cassel could continue to improve into this season.
Whoops
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012
cept our coaches apparently
Pioli was fine with him
I don’t remember Cassel Love after the Oakland and Baltimore games
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
There is no woops there
Some fans will doubt no matter what the situation is.
They don’t get credit when everything falls apart just for being negative constantly. The idea of that is retarded.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
whaddya mean "we"
upamtn - January 31, 2012
You know and I know it was what it was
A decent season that led to the playoffs, and barring any substantial injuries (check), Cassel should continue to improve on his the negatives that plagued him in 2010 just like he did from 2009. There was no reason to believe otherwise unless you were a constant naysayer from the start.
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012
Cassel was all that Haley had. I don’t argue with that one bit. But Weis was able to do with Cassel what Haley could not in year 1 and in year 3. He wasn’t a very good coach and that’s what I’m trying to say. When the chips were down, his attitude was horrible. So much so that he went public about tapped phones et al. Like it or not, he contributed greatly to the black eye that the Chiefs now sport as an organization. So what we know, is that Todd Haley and Scott Pioli despise each other. In any organization I’ve ever worked in, the powers that be win out in those situations.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
And I read that Weis gave up on Cassel and Haley had to mentor him in 2010
hard to believe that story got out of Arrowhead
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
I read that as well
sadly, it didn’t pan out. You know what really stinks? We’re gonna watch Romeo have to deal with Cassel next year too.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
This is a problem Pioli is going to have to face all by himself
if it doesn’t work out well
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
why you think I want Orton :-)
upamtn - January 31, 2012
Too bad Haley
didn’t mentor hm in 2009 and 2011 then.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Hard to believe anything except the play on the field
And it was consistently not good-outright embarrassing and terrible through the season.
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012
Yep
Haley was a drowning man and Pioli watched.
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
Definition of throwing him a lifeline:
“Hey Todd. Why don’t you play Stanzi?”
“You will never take me alive!!!”
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012
Ha
Can’t blame him IMO.
YOU DON"T OWN ME :)
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
So five blowout losses of 27+ points
represented the talent level of the team?
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Tarkus
I DON"T CARE ABOUT LOSSES
but wins and we had plenty with a scrub QB
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
If you care about wins, you inherently care about losses...
ArrowSpread - January 31, 2012
Tarkus likes to point out blowouts
which inherently point to the Defense which also says we are going to get blown out many more times since we have the same Defensive leadership in place.
Bogus arguement either way
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
I did not want to point this out
it’s just cruel. Thanks Steve. :)
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
It's not about offense and defense, per se.
It’s about the team being totally unprepared for at least five games. The same team that beat the Packers.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
And the same team that shut out the Raiders
in the black hole. That had never happened before either. Too much on each side of that ledger to say who was right.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
Exactly why I said they underachieved.
They showed what they were capable of in a handful of games, so there was no reason to totally crap their pants in at least five games. That’s on coaching. The injury excuse is tired. That explains a less than stellar record, but not a total lack of competitiveness in so many games.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
No quarter given
for injuries et al? Necessary changes in game plan when reeling from week to week as you are losing starting players every time you step on the field?
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
So we disagree
What else is new?
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
Our team was made up of 3 years and less players
what our cadre of Vets was 6 guys,
yep yo-yo is youngsters
I can attest to that
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
We won 5 games before the Packers game
with Cassel/Palko for Gawd’s sake
and of course we never beat anybody any good with Cassel at all.
and of course we beat the Packers with that no-good QB Orton
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
Uhmmm...
2009 Steelers game.
Zif - February 1, 2012
that over-acheiver ESPN analyst and spokesperson for all that is good
won what?
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
You're going to have to narrow that down a bit.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
i can't remember his name
must have blocked it out
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
Todd Haley
was exactly the kind of coach that the PEOPLE of KC could have rallied behind. He was a first time head coach with a good pedigree. He may not have figured it all out in his first 2+ years, but there have been many like that. Some went on to dynasty status. Without knowing why all this has happened, it sickens me to think (arguably) what could have been. Todd Haley was into the city and the fans. He had all the pieces that could have made him a Kansas City icon but we watched while the press helped the puppet master pull the right strings to get him excommunicated. My heart is sad for Kansas City. I cannot change that. Only Romeo’s great success can improve the shadow on my heart.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
It's more likely to happen than not
but you my friend are in for one helluva long offseason.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
unfortunately
I think I am in for a very long rest of my life as a Chiefs fan.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
I dunno man
I’ve been pulling for these bums for… well… a long friggin’ time. And I have to say, for me it boils down to the simple pleasure of hope for 16 games every year. It’s fandom. It’s not life. Thank God! Nevertheless. It’s fun sitting down with friends and watching the games, win or lose.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
I actually was in favor of giving him one more season due to so many injuries and whatnot
But those blowouts were terrible Aiken
NJChieffan16 - January 31, 2012
Yes, they were
Somehow though, given where we were in the process of making this team and considering the injuries, the lock out and Todd’s ‘plan’ that may not have worked well, the losses were just losses to me. How does a team lose like that and then beat an arch rival by shutting them out in their own stadium in the same season? All is not as it seemed.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
All is not as it seems
We will never know if Haley truly was a detriment to the team or if those reports were all lies
NJChieffan16 - January 31, 2012
They blew out a rival for the same reason: injuries
Lets not overlook the fact that we had wins against Curtis Painter, Kyle Boller (with Mcfadden out) and Caleb Hanie (with Forte out). If the injuries are an excuse for the losses, they are as much of an excuse for a big chunk of our wins
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012 via mobile
I thought only the Chiefs had injuries.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
No. They are just the only ones that get to use the excuse.
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012 via mobile
Ok
So the Chiefs just plain sucked, right? At least you chose a point of view…or am I assuming too much?
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
yep
We can’t only not beat good teams we can only beat injured teams
throws hands in the air
it is all Haley Hate
Cause Haley cause all this losing…or winning….whatever
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
Sorry Steve
this issue will not go away for some time. Way to many band waggon haters have redefined what Haley actually did or did not do. Nothing we can do will change that.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
Let me ask you
when the boys came home from ’Nam, did they look like baby killers and rapists to you?
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
I was 13

Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
Uh oh.
I have a feeling someone’s about to invoke Godwin’s Law.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Godwin
another maggot lawyer…
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
maggots don't need lawyers ... come on, man
upamtn - January 31, 2012
Sorry Ups
I wish you well…
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
We all need to get together and get you drunk Aiken.
Perhaps get you a Todd Haley look a like stripper from the pitch.
Where is the beer? Kalo’s house?
Let’s do it.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
Todd Haley look alike stripper?
You can get one of those under a bridge downtown.

truthfully you just have to go to any quick trip late at night
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
Oh man,
now I am offended.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012

You’re not offended. You just need to blow off some steam.
I know how you feel, I put so much emotion into this dam team, it is draining.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
That was more a shot a pitch women, then you.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
My point of view is they were badly coached.
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012 via mobile
right you are!
Zorn did NOTHING to be a good coach for Palko and I’m sick of it!
upamtn - January 31, 2012
Boom! And we know Haley didn't, and look what that got him
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012 via mobile
an interview with Pittsbugh as OC
While Zorn is enslaved wit Cassel instead of Chicago
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
so why didn't Zorn get canned? Palko looked like crap
so did Cassel …
sheeeesh, people … y’all lay a lot of shit on Haley but the dude didn’t play on the field
a year ago he was a genius … then somehow he “knows” he’s gonna get fired back in March of 2011? how did he know that?
dunno, but Pioli said so in his book so it has to be true, right?
upamtn - January 31, 2012
No coaches ever see the field.
So does that mean it doesn’t matter who is the coach?
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
well, orton was drawing up plays on his own in the GB game and they worked
so … who knows
upamtn - January 31, 2012
So you agree Orton didn't need to learn the playbook?
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Uh oh
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012
I agree orton is so damned good he can lead us to the Super Bowl
but we have to get DeCastro first … you know this!
upamtn - January 31, 2012
I'll take that package.
/no homo
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
/no skitzo
upamtn - January 31, 2012
How do you know Zorn won't be canned?
I’ve said it a million times: I liked Haley as a motivator, but hated him as a gameday and personnel manager, decision maker, and adjustor (if that is a word).
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012
Historic number of blowout losses (not just this season)
don’t make a strong case that he is such a great motivator.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Individual motivator. Got the best out of those we were ready to write off.
Team motivator to consistently win? Far from it.
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012
I can see that.
But I’m no Chris Chambers.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Haley knew how to motivate Chambers. Unfortunately for Haley, he couldn't control the size of contract that was being offered to Chambers to motivate him
Fortunately for the team though, b/c if Haley did control the contracts, we would have had Palko under a Peyton-size contract and Jerehme Urban would have been the highest paid receiver in the league.
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012
And TJ would have a five year extension.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
When are blowouts not terrible?
The injuries, lockout, preseason approach, front office hijinks, Todd-Scott Dance routines….
There was so much to blame on this season.
But look outside the box for two seconds.
The Chiefs are 7-9 with a brutal schedule and 5 season ending injuries before week two and they still went on a four game winning streak and gave us some hope.
They beat the only undefeated team in the NFL and almost made the playoffs and won the division for the second time in two seasons despite a crude coaching change mid season. Sure, Haley could have stayed, Pioli could have went, but it is what it is.
All things considered, it wasn’t that bad. Let’s reload and win this shit next year!
Now, where is that new OC? Tom McMahon wants to know dammit.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
I agree...
Very well said. I still feel good about next year, even though Cassel is starting. I just hope he doesn’t keep regressing.
NJChieffan16 - January 31, 2012
It was not a brutal schedule.
It was about right in the middle of the league.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
That is not what every Chiefs fan said 60000000000000000000 and 3
times before the season started.
Nit pick if you want, but the Chiefs have some reasons to hold their heads up and plow into next season.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
But only one reason to drop their heads and give up before the season even starts: Cassel
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012 via mobile
I'm not sure the team feels that way about Cassel
I know you do, hell I do.
But, I haven’t reserved myself to Cassel being the 100% starter no matter what like some have. We shall see what happens.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
It was a joke obviously
But yeah, I agree. Unfortunately though, I’m getting closer to believing he is likely our best option, as I don’t believe the team will want to put itself in this same position again a couple of years down the road with a marginally better Orton by giving him a long term contract.
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012 via mobile
A joke?
I wonder why so many don’t find it funny?
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
Obviously because the team is "sick" and the positivity is gone forever and ever
RememberDelaney37 - January 31, 2012
and ever
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Not nit-picking.
Just stating a fact. It was a middling schedule. Not brutal at all. It’s irrelevant how it looked before the season. Just like last year’s schedule was historically easy, regardless of how it looked before the season.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
It's whatever, the argument has nothing to do with what I was saying.
The Chiefs had a tough year and if you look at it with some perspective, it wasn’t that bad considering.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
I disagree.
The record wasn’t horrible, all things considered. But I just can’t call a total lack of competitiveness in so many games as “wasn’t that bad.”
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
They were very inconsistent
there is no denying that, but there were so many positives.
The injuries happening so early almost gives the Chiefs an extra draft next season.
Steve Breaston showed to be a great signing.
Rodney Hudson, Jon Baldwin, Justin Houston, Allen Bailey all seem like potential great Chiefs done the road with a full offseason.
The defense improved without Eric Berry.
The Kickers are a good duo.
We can spend all day and night arguing the bs, but there were a lot of positives and at the end of the day this team was a field goal away from the playoffs.
The blowouts blew, Todd Haley getting fired sucked, Kent Babb is not very timely and the injuries were devastating.
However, this team showed some heart at times. The Monday Night Game against the Rivers “Worst Day Ever”… the Packers Win.
It was okay considering.
In June 2011… ask any Chiefs fan. What is your record if you lose Jamaal in game 1 and Eric in game 2 for the season. After you punched them in the ballsack… what do you say? 7-9?
I don’t think so.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012

so THAT’S why Cassel is our QBotF

At least not in my opinion. I’m gonna try and believe in this organization no matter what, it would be easier if they won consistently and gave us Super Bowls. But not everything in life is easy.

Serious comment here...
I think KC would have ended the playoff drought this year had we beat Oakland on Christmas eve. PIT looked terrible @DEN. However, we probably would have gotten embarrassed (again) @NE, just as DEN did. At least the pesky drought could have been lifted off our shoulders….

Thats
what WOULD of happened
Kansas City Keith - January 31, 2012
If you could cherry pick any offensive coach(HC/OC dont qualify) in the league to fill our opening, regardless of their current status who would it be?
It’s strange because I was thinking about this this afternoon and no OC really came to mind and not very candidates, even ones under contract were all that appealing to me.
GenericBrand - January 31, 2012
Brian DabollExRoyalsFan - January 31, 2012
Just make Zorn the OC
and get it over with quickly.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
Prolly gonna happen
although I’d still prefer Hue Jackson
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
Ok, that's it
I just threw up on my keyboard.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
For a not so quiet guy
Hue is being very quiet lately.
GenericBrand - January 31, 2012
Ah ha!
He’s already learned the Pioli Way. That confirms he’ll be the next OC.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
You said it not me!
GenericBrand - January 31, 2012
actually yeah, there could be something to this...
Shanghai_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
weis
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
Im glad to see one person understood what I was getting at.
Interesting choice too. Can’t say I would complain.
GenericBrand - January 31, 2012
yeap aways liked weis hated to see him go
will do good at kansas
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
Sounds like someone is looking for an instant fix
What we need is a play caller that fits which ever QB we have and knows how to utilize speed backs in the EP offense.
That is why I wanted Bruce Arians, now the pickens are more slim… but they are still out there and I think the Chiefs will find someone.
Ups is probably right about it being a Giants/ Patriots guy. The obvious name is Brian Ferentz, but outside of that… who knows?
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
It will, most likely,
be someone that is unproven that has Pioli ties. Pioli wants someone who will bow down to the master…not somebody who will tell him to go fish.
Aiken_Drum - January 31, 2012
Like Sherman?
GenericBrand - January 31, 2012
Not the question. This is a hypothetical situation where you can choose anyone.
And not looking for a quick fix. Just curious, if you could pick anyone even if they were an under contract offensive coach on another team, who you would pick.
GenericBrand - January 31, 2012
McHoodie.
He’s not the OC just yet, so he still counts, right?
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Even if he was the OC he would count in this scenario
GenericBrand - January 31, 2012
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Sorry
I meant HC that act as OC.
GenericBrand - January 31, 2012
Or did you mean Sean Payton types?
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
Sean Payton would be another good one.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
as long as its not
Shawn Payton. crazy mofo gives big fans a bad name.
Shanghai_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
Todd Haley? .... :)
Kevin Gillbride?
Joe Philbin?
Tom Clements?
Realistically, maybe one of these guys.
OFFENSE
Jack Bicknell, Jr Assistant Offensive Line Coach
Kevin Gilbride Offensive Coordinator
Pat Flaherty Offensive Line
Jerald Ingram Running Backs
Mike Pope Tight Ends
Sean Ryan Wide Receivers
Mike Sullivan Quarterbacks Coach
Kevin Gilbride Jr. Offensive Assistant
maybe one of these guys.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
i know it may sound as a reach but the peyton manning effect could be in play here
if healthy and soon to be released
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
not a chance
upamtn - January 31, 2012
So far the list is McHoodie and Weis
GenericBrand - January 31, 2012
And Gilbride and Clements
GenericBrand - January 31, 2012
I wouldn't mind any of those.
Less enthusiastic about Gilbride, though. I’d hate if RAC had to punch him in the face on the sidelines.
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
I guess what I learned from this today
Is there really isn’t any obvious candidates that would wow me. I thought there were more really great OC so maybe a young unproven guy isn’t a horrible option if thats what we end up stuck with. All I know is that we can’t do much worse then Knapp.
GenericBrand - January 31, 2012
We could dig up Lombardi
We have the technology
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
your the owner of a company u got a top 20 to 25 CEO in cassel but u
got a shot to get a top 5 CEO in peyton manning to lead your company, but he’s 62 years old and retirement is near, what would u do, make the switch or stay the same. Sales will go threw the roof for 3 years or stay in mediocracy and pass on it.
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
CEO's are overpriced AND oveerrated
and they command insane amounts in “golden parachutes” that drain resources, even if they drive the corporation into the ground
pass
upamtn - January 31, 2012
okay
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
The owner of a company
would probably ship off anyone close to retirement. Offer them a package and send them off to pasture. Take a chance on the guy half his age for half his cost and see what happens.
Chief Willie Wildcat - February 1, 2012
pretty much this
upamtn - February 1, 2012
what happens if the dude getting shipped to the pasture is going to be a better ceo for 3 more years than the dude half is age . i would hang on to the old guy a few more years
niageriannit1 - February 1, 2012
So I'm taking Environmental Physics this semester, and I learned something really interesting.
Back in the day when they made swords, they had to melt the metal, making it really hot. And they discovered that the quickest way to cool it down was to stick it in a peasant.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 31, 2012
so the, kinda the same principle as prostitution?
Texas Chief - January 31, 2012
LOLOL
upamtn - January 31, 2012
this needs greened
as we all know how a peasant feels now !
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
okay it looks like manning going to be released, u know he hasn't been medically cleared to play but is a free agent what would u do
wait for the medical clearence before u sign him or sign him and hope or wait that the medical clearence comes in before the season starts
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
Very tough call
I punt the decision to the team’s owner ;)
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
but that clearance MAY not come til late summer
also it MAY not come ever
do you PLAN on it coming? one would think not
upamtn - January 31, 2012
Peyton can throw TD's for SB wins from a full body cast
Sign me up
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
I would LOVE to see Peyton Manning in red and gold
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
49ers?
Tarkus - January 31, 2012
that the chance u take
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
Damn
when this place shuts down it really drops dead with a thud.
Buck'O - January 31, 2012
Why do you say that?
ughhhhhhhhhhh
Night guys
Steve_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
AP has a curfew...
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
I would love a strong third shift on AP
but then I would get nothing done
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
I know what you mean
upamtn - January 31, 2012
I mean what you know
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
usually about the time i finish with actual work and start reading/commenting
gonna change my name to TH-TH-TH-THREAD KILLER!
Shanghai_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
at least we know who to blame ;-)
upamtn - January 31, 2012
i think most people were so depressed about you-know-who up there
being such a debbie downer. shocking how far that pendulum swung the other way.
Shanghai_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
that is just Aiken going through his wide array of public emotions
nothing to see here
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
everyone runs when they see you...
up, it is bed time.
Shanghai Chiefs ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun!
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
I'm too dumb to be scared
upamtn - January 31, 2012
you don't have to be smart to run, just not old...
dammit, I guess your screwed either way.
Well, I guess someone has to talk to China. Might as well be a diplomat of nonsense.
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
thanks Blinders ... I think :-)
upamtn - January 31, 2012
any time
Chief-blinders-on - January 31, 2012
yeah
i get that a lot.
must be my rugged good looks.
Shanghai_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
damnit, I just spewed coffee ALL over my monitor!
so … you were saying?
upamtn - January 31, 2012
my work is done here :)
Shanghai_Chiefs - January 31, 2012
i would sign him and hope the clearence comes before the season starts, if it doesn't then so be it
atleast u took the chance on getting a future hall of famer who makes u an instant super bowl contender. i Don’t think it will be that expensive to sign manning with his present injury
niageriannit1 - January 31, 2012
not expensive? haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
that’s there’s funny shit
upamtn - January 31, 2012
If Peyton's next contract is under 80 million
I would be shocked.
Chief-blinders-on - February 1, 2012
man
hard to imagine any price one way or another
have to figure he’s going to be cut by Irsay … so then wait til he’s cleared but even then it’s “iffy” … 10/yr? 15/yr? and for how long? guaranteed? bonus?
adds up … fast
upamtn - February 1, 2012
3 years - $60 million
would be my guess. And of course pass a physical before being allowed to play.
Chief Willie Wildcat - February 1, 2012
er I mean
pass a physical before getting any payment.
Chief Willie Wildcat - February 1, 2012
really, cmon man
do you think the Colts would let go thier franchise qb if they didn’t think he was done? Would you? Especially with the hometown feedback if he can still play? Give the Colt ownership a small bit of credit
tomachop - February 1, 2012
uhhh
its not gonna be cheap, and its going to be a huge risk
tomachop - February 1, 2012
bt I guess ups kinda relayed that to ya
tomachop - February 1, 2012
not sure he heard me in all his excitement of winning the Super Bowl just from signing him, know what I mean?
upamtn - February 1, 2012
just got here, afer skitzo I really should read a little more
tomachop - February 1, 2012
LOL
it’s all good
upamtn - February 1, 2012
that was the most fun Ive had in a long time
tomachop - February 1, 2012
