We continue on with our monthly Kansas City Chiefs approval polls. We've already done a poll on Romeo Crennel this week, which is the first approval poll we've ever had with him at the helm.
So now we turn to Chiefs GM Scott Pioli.
Like the Chiefs record, Pioli's approval numbers have been up and down all season, with a little more down. Previous month's numbers are posted after the jump. Pioli was at 42 percent last month.
But vote in the poll -- Do you approve of the job Scott Pioli is doing as the Chiefs GM?

UH...........
NO!
ottawachiefsfan - January 4, 2012
it depends who pioli hires as hc
niageriannit1 - January 4, 2012
There is a poll every month.
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
That's one for "not sure."
Brsrkr - January 4, 2012
for now it should be ONLY [ ] Not Sure
(angelic smile)
upamtn - January 4, 2012
I voted a BIG FAT NO
His season just ended with his team missing the playoffs….the product he put on the field, players and coaches, was not good enough…could not win a division when the best record is 8-8…he didnt address needs from last year(B Richardson), he had to fire his head coach, the QBOTF he brought in just got outplayed by a guy we picked up off the waiver wire….Im not giving too much credit to him or Haley for last years BS 10 win season…easy schedule and we were STILL lucky to win the division….Pioli has not done anything that has impressed me yet….

KCMizzou - January 4, 2012
He's in the "Show Me" State.....isn't it about time for him to perform?
jcox31mc - January 4, 2012
I'm abstaining until the draft.
Get a QB asshole.
craig in calgary - January 4, 2012
Agree, Get a Coach, get a QB, get an OC.
jcox31mc - January 4, 2012
Get a "QB asshole"?
Did Philip Rivers become available?

Ha!

how about
he gets a QB, holds the asshole
Bigcherokeechief - January 4, 2012
sick
Brsrkr - January 4, 2012
Where are all the people who were praising him for saving cap space to sign players during the season?
JComp11 - January 4, 2012
What has he done with that cap space?
jcox31mc - January 4, 2012
buying a lot of new caps for next year
upamtn - January 4, 2012
free chiefs hat for the first 5.000 who renew season tichets
niageriannit1 - January 4, 2012
now you're talkin'
upamtn - January 4, 2012
I can't wait to buy my season ticket in december and get that hat
because no one else is paying to watch a crappy team with no QB
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
not true
a lot of people did just that in 2011
upamtn - January 4, 2012
they bought season tickets before the season based on 2010 performance
will they do the same based off the 2011 performance?
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
absolutely, happens every year in every NFL city
upamtn - January 4, 2012
even the 0-16 detroit lions? amazing

HIV 2 Elway - January 4, 2012
Offensive MVP.
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
aka highest F in the class
HIV 2 Elway - January 4, 2012
To be fair.
Succop was pretty much money, after a shaky start.
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
yup
upamtn - January 4, 2012
Agree, but saying he was the Chiefs offensive MVP is like bragging about getting the highest F in the class
HIV 2 Elway - January 4, 2012
well the crow bar to hunt wallett opened up when we signed succup
niageriannit1 - January 4, 2012
had to claw through all the spider webs in there.
Suffers from T-Rex syndrome, short arms that can’t reach his pockets
trentchiefsfan - January 5, 2012
were people actually making that argument?
Never ceases to amaze me how far some fans will bend over backwards to make excuses for these assholes
big matt - January 5, 2012
Many people, and it made sense until we were halfway through the season and there was absolutely no evidence of anyone being re-signed. But, hey, we locked the kicker up.
JComp11 - January 5, 2012
Fired Haley.
Named Crennel as interim.
Approve.
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
This
Pretty much the best he could do in the circumstances.
cheapham - January 4, 2012
Sounds like our season (7/16 = 44%).
Brsrkr - January 4, 2012
Looking at that picture......
I hope Martz is not trying to impress Pioli…
Beefcakess - January 4, 2012
Pioli has that
“WTF you talking about” look

This team is set up nicely, asuming they have one more good offseason
stagdsp - January 4, 2012 via mobile
and as long as the "new hire" doesn't do a restart
upamtn - January 4, 2012
Yep, solid couple of drafts.
Need to hit more more good draft, and get a decent offensive coordinator.
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
would parcells come in and coach kc
niageriannit1 - January 4, 2012
he's over 70 years old ...
not that I have anything against old people, but … Parcells? nah, his time has passed
upamtn - January 4, 2012
agreed
Just like I want a QBotF who’s going to stick around for more than few years at the end of their career, I want a HC who’s going to be here for more than a few years..
After Shotty we had:
Gunther 2 yrs
Vermeil 5 yrs
Edwards 3
Haley 2.5
I think you can make the argument, that Vermeil who was here the longest since Marty, came in with a QB and a vision and stuck around for more than 3 years because he had a QB he could run with. Although Vermeil’s D’s sucked…
Gunther had Grbac
Edwards had Huard and Thiggy
Haley had Cassel
None of those guys are long term solutions!
Eastcoastransplant - January 4, 2012
yeah, shame Vermeil couldn't envision a defense
upamtn - January 4, 2012
and this is why
I dont see RAC becoming our hc, I mean how many more years is he going to coach, hes what 65, unless they make him hc and whomever they bring in for oc is the coach in waiting, I would just like to see a coach here for more then 3 years
banshee_01 - January 4, 2012
5 yrs of Crennel would be a good thing in my book
upamtn - January 4, 2012
if he coaches us for 5+ years
then I have no problem with him being our HC, I’m just tired of changing coaches and systems every 2-3 years, same with qb’s
banshee_01 - January 4, 2012
Couldn't agree more.
Eastcoastransplant - January 4, 2012
I'd be ok with 5 or 6 years if he can pull it off.
Eastcoastransplant - January 4, 2012
Not many coaches last longer than that anyway.
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
Going back to the Elite conversation,
If you have an elite coach who has tied his horse to the elite QB, then they do.
I don’t see Payton, McCarthy or Tomlin leaving their respective teams anytime soo.
Nor do I see Coughlin or Belicheck who have been around longer than 5 on each of their respective teams.
So with the right coach and the right QB….
Eastcoastransplant - January 4, 2012
But you are right
That’s 6 coaches out of 32 teams.
Eastcoastransplant - January 4, 2012
True dat.
Then there’s Gruden, who collected QBs like they were trading cards, and a lot of people consider him elite.
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
but Chucky loves ALL players
upamtn - January 4, 2012
no
he only loves them if they happen to be playing in the game that he is announcing that day
banshee_01 - January 4, 2012
this guy?
Eastcoastransplant - January 4, 2012
that's the one :-)
talking about what a great coach he is … simple as Child’s Play
upamtn - January 4, 2012
Heh. Heh. Heh.

LadyChief - January 4, 2012
Then my work here is done. :)
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
Vermeil not only had JUST a QB he could run with
He struck gold with the PRIEST. Also didn’t help when Roaf and Shields were playing like GODS!
58 was my friend - January 4, 2012
Also didn’t hurt when Roaf and Shields were playing like GODS!
Oops
58 was my friend - January 4, 2012
Agreed
Just saying that those teams with Huard and Thiggy, Grbac, wouldn’t have been the same. Mayyybe with Cassel, but Green had such better vision for the field, and a better long ball. He was accurate and dangerous. And we didn’t have any all pro wide receivers. Not including TGonz in that thought.
Eastcoastransplant - January 4, 2012
12 plus years
once you look at the time frame of the coaches we had Jeez been along time since the fun days of Marty
sodablaster - January 4, 2012
Yup. The game has pass him by even when he was HC in Dallas
C’mon Vinny? Drew Beldsoe? And he almost wanted to cut Tony Romo if it hadn’t been for Sean Payton wanting to keep Romo…
He is definitely 70 too old for any HC job
58 was my friend - January 4, 2012
And would Parcells be able to have his son in law tell him what to do
trentchiefsfan - January 5, 2012
I Put Not Sure
But was tempted to vote no since Carr & Bowe have not been locked up.
Spiderwomn69 - January 4, 2012
meh, it's early yet
upamtn - January 4, 2012
never too early to sign proven talented players
trentchiefsfan - January 5, 2012
on top of that
i think it will be harder to sign them, if they don’t know who will be running the team. Too much turmoil.

thats martz saying i can't believe you one a game with palko
niageriannit1 - January 4, 2012
No
Bigcherokeechief - January 4, 2012
Generally approve
Locked up DJ,JC,Tamba,Flowers,Succop(laugh all ya want the dude carried us ALOT), got enough to lock up Bowe/Carr and do some damage in the offseason, brought in McClain,Breaston,Orton, fired the son of a bitch who single handedly tried to destroy our season. Not too shabby, let’s just hope he keeps the ball rollin!
KCinIL - January 4, 2012

Bigcherokeechief - January 4, 2012

besides writing paychecks
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
Pretty sure he doesn't write paychecks.
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
his secretary probably does
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
Or Clark
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
is that when he's on vacation or when he's somewhere other than KC?
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
He was of vacation during the season?
News to me
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
pioli was studying up on the right 53 formula on vacation
niageriannit1 - January 4, 2012
Sounds rational
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
he forgot to add QB
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
Didn't know Orton isn't a QB
Guess we should’ve just stuck with Palko huh?
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
we should have went with stanzi
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
because 5th rounders with no experience and no off-season practice time are always the best bet
upamtn - January 4, 2012
considering that we're not in the playoffs. Why not?
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
We were still in it at the time we got Orton
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
considering had be defeated the Raiders we would have been in the playoffs ...
… that’s why not
you play to win the game … hello?
upamtn - January 4, 2012
playoffs? playoffs?
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
TJ Yates did ok
KingChief - January 4, 2012
Top run game, top defense
I would do good
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
texans..top defense???? LOL
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
You should look at the stats
http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/total/position/defense
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
4th in the league in pts allowed
that’s pretty significant since games are determined by … you know, points scored
upamtn - January 4, 2012
that's because they're playig in a weak division
if manning was around, their D would be in the top 20
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
boy, stop!
upamtn - January 4, 2012
let's see
indy, ten, and jac
play them 6 times a year
oh my blaine gabbert is so tough
matt hasselback is so tough
no peyton manning, oh my
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
they also BEAT Cin, Atl and Pitt
upamtn - January 4, 2012
we had a chance to beat the pitts too
and guess what? under palko
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
So you think the 49'ers suck too?
Because they play the Rams, Cards and Seahawks?
Cause they have one of the top D’s this year too.
Ochophosphate - January 4, 2012
and watch them get their ass handed to them in the playoffs
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
THEY made it, WE didn't ...
any questions?
upamtn - January 4, 2012
Oh so we're going to go by the assumed fact you can predict the future
why didn’t you put down nostradamus as you username
trentchiefsfan - January 5, 2012
Nice
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
Right
Cuz 2 games against him would somehow do that. Gonna shit on a defense that was ballin cuz of the division, smooth
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
look at the rest of their division
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
Spin it however you want
Top D is top D is top D.
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
they're the 2010 chiefs
they’ll get their ass handed to them in the playoff
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
Playoffs are playoffs - it's anyone's game as we saw last year
And that wasn’t the point in question.
You were scoffing at them having a top defense in 2011 – which in fact they do/did have. You can’t look at the stats, which are facts, and just poo-poo it off because you don’t like it.
Nobody said having a top D was a guaranteed Championship game or Super Bowl appearance. KCinIL just said “Top D”. He didn’t say they were going to win the SB because they have a Top D.
Ochophosphate - January 4, 2012
Amen
I think your SF point kinda put his ridiculous argument to bed.
KCinIL - January 4, 2012

what comes after ditto?
Eastcoastransplant - January 4, 2012
got me
upamtn - January 4, 2012
Yessir - climb out from under which rock you have been living...
The only category they aren’t top 10 in is interceptions, where they hit #13.
So yes – top defense.
Ochophosphate - January 4, 2012
Jesus, stupid bullet points - that's not how this should look
2 in Overall D
3 in passing D
4 in rushing D
6 in sacks
4 in scoring D
Ochophosphate - January 4, 2012
the Texans overcame a LOT of injuries this year
RB, WR, QB … seriously, their injuries were as crucial as ours, they got it done, we didn’t … and yeah, they have a much better defense than people think
not to mention a much better OLine … that’s a very good, tough team
upamtn - January 4, 2012
Wade Smith
Damn I wish we had em still!
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
It didn't hurt them to have AJ and Schaub
58 was my friend - January 4, 2012
that's the deal, though
all those guys got hurt … including Foster … and they STILL did what they needed to do
upamtn - January 4, 2012
Just think if we didn't run Palko out there
Over and over….god…I really hate Todd
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
I just am not sure who we would have run out there in his place?
Not that I’m apologizing for Haley. But initially who? Stanzi off his little time in the NFL? Maybe. Palko week one. That’s why we had him… Week 2? Ok maybe. We couldn’t have put Orton in much sooner and when he did go in. he got blown up.
Eastcoastransplant - January 4, 2012
I put my paycheck on the line
That Orton would’ve been good-to-go the game after Pit(especially with this playbook) hell he probably could’ve gone in that game the 2nd half and did better than that guy. I was at that game, I hated it. The Bears were tearing up our OL so we run him out there for a fle-flicking long route developing play, ridiculous.
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
Yeah I hear you.
Truth be told, he couldn’t have done any worse than Palko. And once he was in the system he was worlds better. Hell he made the team better b/c the D didn’t have to be out there for 55 minutes and the O line got better as well.
Eastcoastransplant - January 4, 2012
Thank god that experiments over
But damn, those games fuckin hurt!
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
They were straight up demoralizing.
I mean, after this season my whole take on a QBotF has changed. Not that I ever wanted us to Suck for Luck cuz of how badly that hurts the overall team’s growth. But… having a stellar QB changes so much.
Eastcoastransplant - January 4, 2012
so, Rodgers?
upamtn - January 4, 2012
is a stellar QB
and his team plays like they know they will win. Cuz most of the time they will. Having faith in your QB to make plays makes you play better.
Eastcoastransplant - January 4, 2012
oh, I was hoping you were saying we'd get him ;-)
upamtn - January 4, 2012
I wouldn't complain at all
But sure as shit not sure how that would happen. I think the constellations would have to align even more so than when they did in 06 and we fell into the playoffs.
Eastcoastransplant - January 4, 2012
Thier d hasn't played that good the last few games
KingChief - January 4, 2012
Neither has Yates
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
He has gone 3-2 in 5 starts
not bad for a rookie
KingChief - January 4, 2012
Not bad at all, but he hasn't been real good
It helps alot when you got a top run game and top D, all I’m sayin

Falcon58 - January 4, 2012
Why would, or should, a GM ever obtain players without co-ordinating the needs with
the head coach. If you think about it, why would any coach be happy if your GM comes up to you and say, Hey, we just signed this guy, good luck. To me, this may be why there were problems with Haley and Pioli. The GM should discuss personal all the time with the coach and if the coach says he needs a certain player, the GM should be supportive and help go out and get that player (as with Breaston). I wonder if this would be Fisher’s problem right off the bat.
jcox31mc - January 4, 2012
how dare you sound logically. This is the chiefs GM we're talking about here
don’t make me smack you
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
Fisher wants to be GM
And judging by all his misses in Ten he should be nowhere near 1 Arrowhead drive
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
Dude, Bud Adams was calling the shots in TN
If I remember right, Fisher wanted nothing to do with VY
HIV 2 Elway - January 4, 2012
He had alot of input if I remember right
And 1 person means nothing. The dudes a mediocre HC don’t know why people hype em up like he’s something special
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
What makes you think Haley was never consulted?
You think he had nothing to do with Breaston being signed? Baldwin being drafted? His boy Thomas Jones? Urban? Etc.
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
Right
And Im sure he got tired of telling Haley this Palko guy sucks and seeing Haley ignore em and continue to throw that waste of space out there
KCinIL - January 4, 2012
Agreed
I posted about the relationship between our HC’s over the last 15 years and their QB’s. I mean no wonder they last such short period’s of time here. Not defending either coach here, but saddling/expecting Gunther to win with Grbac, Edwards with Huard/Thiggy or Haley with Cassel on a long term basis is ridiculous.
Eastcoastransplant - January 4, 2012
who do u blame for the gaithers release then
niageriannit1 - January 4, 2012
Gaithers
did he come out and play better than anyone else when he was with us? if the answer is “no” then it’s really on him (my two cents)
upamtn - January 4, 2012
probably because we never gave him the chance
1 snap. offsides. He’s gone.
and compare to how he’s with the chargers who gave him more chances: pro
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
the Chargers would have stuck a tree in at that position with the injuries they had
upamtn - January 4, 2012
but compared him at LT for the chargers vs our LT. He's obviously better
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
no, he isn't "obviously better"
upamtn - January 4, 2012
did you not watch Albert play this year
hes not better then Albert
banshee_01 - January 4, 2012
I Used to NOT SURE
and DISAPPROVE (because of how much weight the Cassel deal made me loose faith in him)
I was leaning towards APPROVE (upon reading excerpts from War Room)
then Haley firing – after which I had no doubt: APPROVE
58 was my friend - January 4, 2012
how do you loose faith?
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
untie it
upamtn - January 4, 2012

Loose Faith
she’s been around the block way too many times. You need to lose her.
Chief Willie Wildcat - January 4, 2012
When Clark hired him, I started to believe KC was gonna finally make a big turn for the better
then when the Cassel deal happen… I started to doubt all the hype surrounding Pioli being an elite GM

SP needs to divorce Cassel
that’s the albatross around SP’s neck
Bleedingredandgold - January 4, 2012
58 was my friend - January 4, 2012
that needs to be green!
LadyChief - January 4, 2012
And so it is.
Brsrkr - January 4, 2012
Not sure
Had to fire the coach after 13 games. A lot of loose lips in the organization when things weren’t going so well. A serious lack of depth on the roster. We all knew it wasn’t there, just hoped and prayed the key stars would stay healthy, they didn’t.
Hopefully he’s learned from some of his mistakes because a lot of the problems in the organization shouldn’t be laid at Haley’s feet.

Everything said here perfectly describes why I voted "Disapprove".
Despite the vaunted tight-lipped New England way, they did plenty of talking out of the corners of their mouths. Pioli completely mishandled the Haley situation and I no longer trust him. But I don’t trust Hunt either.
Falcon58 - January 4, 2012
CWW...this is mainly why I also went Not sure
Combined with some of the questionable FA signings at the end of the period….and a few oddball draft choices.
For me, the jury’s out…what Pioli does over the next few months will determine for me if he deserves an “approve”.
WorL4Chiefs - January 4, 2012
Ok, basing this off his recent moves.
1. Signed Orton
2. Released Gaither
3. Fired Haley
That’s 2 approves and 1 not sure for me. So overall, I approve.
The Chiefs had a bad year, but you cannot argue that Pioli wasn’t proactive. When he could make adjustments, he did so. I think that’s a very good sign, and those changes (Orton and Haley) almost got us into the playoffs.
citadelchief - January 4, 2012
That’s actually a very easy argument to make. How was he proactive? He waited until the “starting” QB was injured to get a competant back-up (and only after Orton happened to fall in his lap) and had shit for depth the entire season. He also kept Haley around after more than a few blow out losses. Isn’t that the definition of REactive?
JComp11 - January 4, 2012
No, reactive would be to wait until the end of the season and then address all of the concerns.
With 0 guarantees on getting a QB in the offseason, he was proactive by claiming Orton off of waivers (not to mention drafting Stanzi last year as well). He could have easily just demanded the team go with Stanzi as the starter, or even make Jason Whitlock’s dreams come true by giving Jeff George a shot. Getting the quality guy when he becomes available is being proactive.
Knowing that Haley wasn’t the right coach for the team, he fired him and gave Crennel a shot to show what he could do before entering the coaching hunt. He could have let Haley finish the season before starting a coach search. Giving a potential candidate an opportunity before having to make the real decision is being proactive.
citadelchief - January 4, 2012
That makes no sense. What does Orton have to do with the off season? He is a free agent. It was a direct REACTION to losing Cassel. How can you claim that going into the season with Tyler Palko as the back up is being proactive?

I wish we had that threat on special teams. Pollards downfall was his attitude, but he hit hard and would block a kick every once in a while.

I do hate Bernard Pollard for one reason and ONE REASON only
He was 100% responsible for bringing Matt Cassel to KC and I f***ing hate that
