We've got another cold one here in DC this evening. And it's not being helped by the fact that the vent in our apartment is covered because our landlord is renovating our kitchen. Don't get me wrong. This is a good thing, getting a new kitchen.
It's just having the fridge in the living room that's throwing me off a bit.
But who am I kidding? This is actually pretty cool. This evening, I made a sandwich and refilled my glass of water all from the seat next to my couch.
That's what I'm up to tonight. What are you doing?

If it wasn't a nice Stainless Steel fridge, I'd say you should drill some taps in the side of that thing and keep it there.
But that’s because the 15 feet from my couch to my kegerator is occasionally 15 feet too many. =)

Trying to think of stuff to put on my resume.
I haven’t done anything noteworthy since graduating from high school other than going to college. I don’t think my experience of working at McDonalds will count for much.
As for the fridge, I have a mini fridge in my room in my apartment at school, at I have decided it will be in every bedroom I have from now until I die in my 30’s from being a fatass caused by having a fridge in your bedroom.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 4, 2012
well depends on the employer
some like 1 page, some more
I just applied for army jag..10 page of pure awesomeness
also put in community service, groups, activities, etc. normally good discussion starters
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
For me, most of the noteworthy stuff happened in high school.
I’m hoping people still find it impressive.
How the hell did you get a 10 page resume? I’m struggling with one.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 4, 2012
I wrote descriptions
for example
I was a prosecutor in law school so I said
—argued 4th amendment
5th amendment
8th amendment
14th amendment
participated in trials
etc
in my opinion Do not mention high school unless it’s related
i.e. army=high school football
but always mention community service. People love that stuff
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
I know that when our company gets a 4-5 page resume, it's bothersome.
Most of the time, it’s expounding on the same things over and over, rather than being focused on the aspects of each that apply to the job posted.
Now, the Army’s selection process is much different than ours, I’m sure, but short, sweet, and specific typically gets the job done, in my experience.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
yea for companies
I have 1 cover page
1 page of resume
and 1 page of 3+ references
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
Yup.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
What's your opinion on high school stuff?
Looking back, I did some really impressive things in high school like winning multiple math contests and going to Missouri Scholars Academy (which they said accepts only the top 1/2 of the top 1%), but it’s not directly related, and it was a while ago. But since I’m going to have to learn a bit, I feel that it shows that I’m smart enough to learn the necessary things quickly and be able to understand it enough to be effective.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 4, 2012
I normally write such thing under miscellaneous
nothing wrong with boasting
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
You're close enough to where that's semi-pertinent.
But don’t focus on it too much. In a couple more years, it doesn’t come off so hot.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
Applying for something within your major?
Most will be just fine with the college courses if you’re staying within the same realm. Other than that, Chiefshero is right: service, activities, groups, etc.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
That's the problem.
My major is Physics, trying to get a job in computer science. It’s not too far apart, but it still might be far enough away that I’m thinking about teaching myself some more stuff as soon as I graduate.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 4, 2012
What specifically in Comp Sci?
Specific programming languages that you don’t know? Or more networking protocol?
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
The only programming languages I know are stuff like Matlab.
I’m not too familiar with Java or C or others that seem to be used when actually programming things. It shouldn’t be too tough to learn them, it’s just a matter of taking the time to do it.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 4, 2012
Also it would be good to list things you have programmed or work accomplished.
Your resume should list relevant education, experience, but really focus on your cover letter, that is how you sell yourself.
saskwatch - January 4, 2012
also write experienced in microsoft word, excel, powerpoint, etc
not sure why but people are always impressed with such thing
also 2nd languages are always a good thing
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
If it's a programming job, that's usually pretty laughable, if I'm honest.
We’ve got something on the market right now that is looking for some pretty heavy knowledge on various programming languages and the ability to create low level drivers. We’ve had people submit the Office Suite as their computer knowledge (to be fair, that’s all they put in that section), and their resumes are thrown out.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
I've heard that a large proportion of people who apply to programming jobs can't actually program.
Apparently some people with Masters in computer science have no actual programming ability. They said that if you know recursion and iteration you’re better than most applicants, which I couldn’t believe.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 4, 2012
probably because college is no longer "college"
like how law school teaches you all this crap but when it’s time to do it for real…I’m like WTF!!!!!!
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
And that might be the case in some spots.
We’re looking for someone to walk in and work, not learn. Nobody is going to know EXACTLY what we’re doing (we’re a circuit level design company, so our stuff is fairly proprietary), but at the same time, we won’t have time to lay the foundation.
However, we’re not looking for someone straight out of college, so that changes things.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
i found the best way to get a job is via interning. No pay but at least you get experience
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
I've considered interning.
Since I graduated from college a year early, I feel that I have a year to do stuff other than working without feeling too guilty about living with my parents.
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 4, 2012
i've been living with my parents since I was born
beats paying 20k a year on housing
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
Not necessarily true.
Lots of internships pay in engineering and comp sci fields. They’ll pay a little bit to show you the ropes, then bump you up when you’re comfortable.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
I was asking more about what the comp sci job was looking for.
But I assume it’s Java/C. Those aren’t difficult to learn. I didn’t know if it was GTK or DirectFB, which is a little different.
Work in those pertinent languages. Challenge yourself, and package the pertinent applications for them so their programmers can see habits, execution, and the like. You can find out a lot by looking at someone’s code and how they approach a situation.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012

it was funny, I wrote member of "arrowhead pride"
the army recruiter was like WTF is arrowhead pride?
I told him and he was like “Oh I’m part of battle red blog.”
and we discussed for the next 4 hours on which team was better. We even had lunch. So I hope it went well

Sure we’re soul sucking evil people…but we have feelings too you know
Chiefshero - January 4, 2012
All the feelings that you've sucked out of other people.
Brsrkr - January 4, 2012
I was this < > close to joining your ranks
had a sweet scholarship set up, too. Decided to go back and get a Comp Sci or Electrical Engineering degree instead. Probably a bad move lol
joplin chiefs fan - January 4, 2012
As an Electrical Engineer, I'm pleased.
Heh.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
We'll have to chat sometime about it
I decided I’d rather go into something more math and science heavy rather than go to law school (I currently have a BA in English Doh!) I’m only in my first year back in school, however, and at this point I could either go EE or CS and I’m really not sure which one I want to pursue.
joplin chiefs fan - January 4, 2012
CS definitely has it's benefits.
EE has a lot of different ways you can fall with it. I’m lucky enough to work at a circuit level, as well as do a good bit of programming, but my job is a rarity.

is law school as bad as they make it out to be?
I really wanted to be a lawyer but have had to change career options/choices because of all the money involved, time, law school/bar exam etc… how did all that work for ya?
KC Nate - January 4, 2012
going to law school is like learning how to ride a bike
you have to learn differently than you did in undergrad
you need to live, breathe, and eat law. Have fun reading instead of spending time with your family and friends
you should spend 80+ hours a week studying/attending classes
have fun waking up at 8 am on saturday/sunday to make outlines
I went into it because I thought it would be easy…I can’t leave because of the 80k debt
Chiefshero - January 5, 2012
unreal, sorry to hear ... I still have a lot myself (not that much, but lots) from Educ degree(s)
worse is I can’t land a contract job these days (in part) because of the economy, so I substitute teach :-/

I'm trying to join the army...for the 60k education relief
Chiefshero - January 5, 2012

BeauJackson - January 4, 2012
Being an Arsenal fan, I tune in, they suck.
I stop watching, they make up a little ground. I need to shut it down for the season for their good.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
i don't really have a team
usually just root for teams that have dutch stars.
BeauJackson - January 4, 2012
Which means you're an Arjen Robben fan?
Please tell me you don’t like Nigel De Jong…
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
what isn't to like?
robben has a lot of work to do to make up for blowing the breakaway against spain last year. that nearly killed me.
BeauJackson - January 4, 2012
No doubt there.
De Jong broke a couple of my favorite players’ legs…not to mention the karate kick in the Finals last year. I’m not a fan of the guy.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
yeah, if he wasn't dutch, i wouldn't okay his game
the dutch don’t usually have an enforcer like him though. i could see why people would hate him though.
BeauJackson - January 4, 2012
Truth.
They play a lot more straightforward game. I bet you’re enjoying the fact that he’ll put his nose into challenges.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
it helps
sometimes the dutch are too finesse. he’s an amped up version of the de boer boys.
i can’t wait for euro 2012 to start. 156 days i think. spain, holland, germany….going to be epic.
BeauJackson - January 4, 2012
Yeah, we pick a team, and whoever's last buys lunch for first.
Thing is, Spain’s off the table. I’m going with Germany, but I can see them getting tripped up early.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
i always think sweden can make some noise
the group of death might just take down one of holland or germany. i think they’re both too strong, but you never know.
BeauJackson - January 4, 2012
I always like them on paper, but they're too inconsistent.
Kinda like Russia. You think “Hey, maybe”, and then they bomb out.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
right, i always get my hopes up for them
never happens except 1994 world cup. henrik larsson should’ve made it happen.
rooney is still out for the group stage, correct?
BeauJackson - January 4, 2012
Yup.
Idiot. I hope he costs ’em an advancement.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
i wouldn't be surprised if he did
they might be able to eek out two 1-0 victories without him, should be interesting.
BeauJackson - January 4, 2012
Holey shiz, dropped half a hundred on 'em already.
Brsrkr - January 4, 2012
This is #15 Clemson, right?
How the hell is this a BCS bowl?
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
#15 vs #23.
I’m looking forward to the Cotton Bowl.
Brsrkr - January 4, 2012
Oh yes.
My second most anticipated Bowl Game. First was the Fiesta Bowl, and it didn’t disappoint.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
I don't understand this.
Last three bowl games I’ve watched with AP have been great games. I don’t know where the mojo went tonight.
Brsrkr - January 4, 2012
Blame the BCS.
This very well could have been KSU/Arkansas.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
They'll still play each other.
I don’t get caught up in where/when because I don’t get a cut of the BCS money.
I would’ve liked to see Boise/KSU.
Brsrkr - January 4, 2012
Right, but both of those schools would've benefitted from it.
Boise/KSU would have been fun, but the Cotton Bowl is going to be a bruiser, and I’m very okay with that. It’s Klein’s sort of game.

a snot nosed teen was standing outside of his car in a parking space and got mad that I parked in the parking space he was standing in, said something stupid and probably didn’t think I’d do anything about it. Needless to say the guy cowered and probably won’t be doing that any time soon.
How stupid is that though? You’re standing in a place designated to cars and you get mad when someone wants to park there? It’s like walking in to a burger shop and being mad they sell burgers there. Fuck new school man
IPWT2009 - January 4, 2012
What exactly did you do?
wustl_chiefs_fan - January 4, 2012
called em out haha
probably not the best idea, luckily the three guys in the car all sat with their tails between their legs
IPWT2009 - January 5, 2012
Anyone know
What Kendrick Lewis’s surgery was today? It’s all over his twitter, just not a what. Knee i assume, he was hurt a bit. Maybe scope and clean?
sayten - January 4, 2012
Just seeing that.
Hadn’t heard anything, myself.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
Shoulder I think.
Someone put up a FahShot a little while ago, said he hurt it in the second half the other day or something.
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
Ah.
He wasn’t playing like it was a problem.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
I think Lewis is a lot like Flowers
He’s not coming out of the game unless he absolutely has to.
bh13 - January 4, 2012
Wonder if it was when he laid the wood to Tebow.
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
Hrm.
Why can’t I remember that shot? He was flying everywhere Sunday, I can’t single any out other than the fumble.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
Only thing I remember
is Lewis jumping on Tebow’s back to cause the fumble.
His Royal Greatness - January 4, 2012
That's what I meant.
Maybe it wasn’t that big of a hit, though.
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
Probably got touched by Jacob's angel after that.
Brsrkr - January 4, 2012
Did Tebow fall on him when they went out of bounds?
Might have been hurt then. Kendrick’s not exactly a big guy.
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
Could have been when he dove for that terrible Tebow throw too.
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
Good call.
He did lay out for that, didn’t he?
KaloPhoenix - January 4, 2012
Which one?
There were so many.
bh13 - January 4, 2012
Which one?
Care to narrow that one down kind sir?
His Royal Greatness - January 4, 2012
Ha!
Somehow, I knew I’d get that reaction.
It was the one that inspired me to comment that his throws are so inaccurate, they couldn’t even be intercepted. If it was just poorly thrown, it would have been an easy pick. But it was so terribly thrown, even Lewis couldn’t get to it.
Tarkus - January 4, 2012
Oh
The Tebow Special. Methinks I remember that
His Royal Greatness - January 4, 2012
wasn't it his shoulder?
probably read some weird comment today and took it for fact
IPWT2009 - January 4, 2012
DAMN still hittin in this game!
Brsrkr - January 4, 2012
Ouch
Talk about getting slammed.
bh13 - January 4, 2012
Tandem form tackle.
Brsrkr - January 4, 2012
That is how the game is played
love that stuff
His Royal Greatness - January 4, 2012
Wish we could see a little more form tackling from the Chiefs
bh13 - January 4, 2012
Forte does not.
Brsrkr - January 4, 2012
Are they doing the kneeldown from the shotgun?
Brsrkr - January 4, 2012
103 combined points
Shame it wasn’t closer to a 53-50 split, would’ve been a more interesting game.
bh13 - January 4, 2012
I looked up ass whopping in the dictionary and found this game
Chiefshero - January 5, 2012
just got off work.
Working at night and taking care of my 2 daughters ages 4 and 3 years old so yea I’m pretty tired. If Kc let’s bowe go for nothing or atleast without bringing someone else in. I’m going to be one pissed off chief fan. Der I said it.
