We've got another cold one here in DC this evening. And it's not being helped by the fact that the vent in our apartment is covered because our landlord is renovating our kitchen. Don't get me wrong. This is a good thing, getting a new kitchen.

It's just having the fridge in the living room that's throwing me off a bit.

But who am I kidding? This is actually pretty cool. This evening, I made a sandwich and refilled my glass of water all from the seat next to my couch.

That's what I'm up to tonight. What are you doing?

If it wasn't a nice Stainless Steel fridge, I'd say you should drill some taps in the side of that thing and keep it there.

But that’s because the 15 feet from my couch to my kegerator is occasionally 15 feet too many. =)

Put in a toilet and it's complete
anybody up for some moonshine?
I am in a hotel room prepping for a job interview in the morning.
good luck

might I ask what company?

I won't ssay specifically, but it is an environmental management position with the local hydroelectric company
Oh yeah?

Still in the Great White North?

Still in SK, but I would have to move.

I

Good luck man.

Good luck to you, Sask.
sask ... you NAIL that puppy!
and I want a FULL report on my desk no later than NOON!

PDF format on the flashdrive AND hardcopy, as always … as well as all receipts including meals, signed and dated

Trying to think of stuff to put on my resume.

I haven’t done anything noteworthy since graduating from high school other than going to college. I don’t think my experience of working at McDonalds will count for much.

As for the fridge, I have a mini fridge in my room in my apartment at school, at I have decided it will be in every bedroom I have from now until I die in my 30’s from being a fatass caused by having a fridge in your bedroom.

well depends on the employer

some like 1 page, some more

I just applied for army jag..10 page of pure awesomeness

also put in community service, groups, activities, etc. normally good discussion starters

For me, most of the noteworthy stuff happened in high school.

I’m hoping people still find it impressive.

How the hell did you get a 10 page resume? I’m struggling with one.

I wrote descriptions

for example

I was a prosecutor in law school so I said
—argued 4th amendment
5th amendment
8th amendment
14th amendment
participated in trials
etc

in my opinion Do not mention high school unless it’s related
i.e. army=high school football

but always mention community service. People love that stuff

I know that when our company gets a 4-5 page resume, it's bothersome.

Most of the time, it’s expounding on the same things over and over, rather than being focused on the aspects of each that apply to the job posted.

Now, the Army’s selection process is much different than ours, I’m sure, but short, sweet, and specific typically gets the job done, in my experience.

yea for companies

I have 1 cover page
1 page of resume
and 1 page of 3+ references

What's your opinion on high school stuff?

Looking back, I did some really impressive things in high school like winning multiple math contests and going to Missouri Scholars Academy (which they said accepts only the top 1/2 of the top 1%), but it’s not directly related, and it was a while ago. But since I’m going to have to learn a bit, I feel that it shows that I’m smart enough to learn the necessary things quickly and be able to understand it enough to be effective.

I normally write such thing under miscellaneous

nothing wrong with boasting

You're close enough to where that's semi-pertinent.

But don’t focus on it too much. In a couple more years, it doesn’t come off so hot.

Applying for something within your major?

Most will be just fine with the college courses if you’re staying within the same realm. Other than that, Chiefshero is right: service, activities, groups, etc.

That's the problem.

My major is Physics, trying to get a job in computer science. It’s not too far apart, but it still might be far enough away that I’m thinking about teaching myself some more stuff as soon as I graduate.

What specifically in Comp Sci?

Specific programming languages that you don’t know? Or more networking protocol?

The only programming languages I know are stuff like Matlab.

I’m not too familiar with Java or C or others that seem to be used when actually programming things. It shouldn’t be too tough to learn them, it’s just a matter of taking the time to do it.

Also it would be good to list things you have programmed or work accomplished.

Your resume should list relevant education, experience, but really focus on your cover letter, that is how you sell yourself.

also write experienced in microsoft word, excel, powerpoint, etc

not sure why but people are always impressed with such thing

also 2nd languages are always a good thing

If it's a programming job, that's usually pretty laughable, if I'm honest.

We’ve got something on the market right now that is looking for some pretty heavy knowledge on various programming languages and the ability to create low level drivers. We’ve had people submit the Office Suite as their computer knowledge (to be fair, that’s all they put in that section), and their resumes are thrown out.

I've heard that a large proportion of people who apply to programming jobs can't actually program.

Apparently some people with Masters in computer science have no actual programming ability. They said that if you know recursion and iteration you’re better than most applicants, which I couldn’t believe.

probably because college is no longer "college"

like how law school teaches you all this crap but when it’s time to do it for real…I’m like WTF!!!!!!

And that might be the case in some spots.

We’re looking for someone to walk in and work, not learn. Nobody is going to know EXACTLY what we’re doing (we’re a circuit level design company, so our stuff is fairly proprietary), but at the same time, we won’t have time to lay the foundation.

However, we’re not looking for someone straight out of college, so that changes things.

i found the best way to get a job is via interning. No pay but at least you get experience

I've considered interning.

Since I graduated from college a year early, I feel that I have a year to do stuff other than working without feeling too guilty about living with my parents.

i've been living with my parents since I was born

beats paying 20k a year on housing

Not necessarily true.

Lots of internships pay in engineering and comp sci fields. They’ll pay a little bit to show you the ropes, then bump you up when you’re comfortable.

I was asking more about what the comp sci job was looking for.

But I assume it’s Java/C. Those aren’t difficult to learn. I didn’t know if it was GTK or DirectFB, which is a little different.

Work in those pertinent languages. Challenge yourself, and package the pertinent applications for them so their programmers can see habits, execution, and the like. You can find out a lot by looking at someone’s code and how they approach a situation.

focus on all your classes

Go

Employment
--

classes taken/ studied
physics 101
102
103
etc

list everything

it was funny, I wrote member of "arrowhead pride"

the army recruiter was like WTF is arrowhead pride?
I told him and he was like “Oh I’m part of battle red blog.”

and we discussed for the next 4 hours on which team was better. We even had lunch. So I hope it went well

Do you have to apply for the army, I thought you signed up?
army jag is the law corp

over 1600 per year

60 selected…oy

1600* applicants
Lawyer?
yep. Finishing law school this year
ooh. judge advocate general

I’m smelling O-3 or O-4 pay grade

That's too bad. :)
You just destroyed any credibility you might've had.
LOL what's wrong with being a lawyer?

Sure we’re soul sucking evil people…but we have feelings too you know

All the feelings that you've sucked out of other people.
I was this < > close to joining your ranks

had a sweet scholarship set up, too. Decided to go back and get a Comp Sci or Electrical Engineering degree instead. Probably a bad move lol

As an Electrical Engineer, I'm pleased.

Heh.

We'll have to chat sometime about it

I decided I’d rather go into something more math and science heavy rather than go to law school (I currently have a BA in English Doh!) I’m only in my first year back in school, however, and at this point I could either go EE or CS and I’m really not sure which one I want to pursue.

CS definitely has it's benefits.

EE has a lot of different ways you can fall with it. I’m lucky enough to work at a circuit level, as well as do a good bit of programming, but my job is a rarity.

from that discussion earlier about the Texans and their defense, thought you might like this little post

http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2012/1/4/2681371/nfl-playoffs-2012-houston-texans

psh I hate on anybody besides the chiefs

I’m a real fan. Screw the rest of the league XD

is law school as bad as they make it out to be?

I really wanted to be a lawyer but have had to change career options/choices because of all the money involved, time, law school/bar exam etc… how did all that work for ya?

going to law school is like learning how to ride a bike

you have to learn differently than you did in undergrad

you need to live, breathe, and eat law. Have fun reading instead of spending time with your family and friends

you should spend 80+ hours a week studying/attending classes

have fun waking up at 8 am on saturday/sunday to make outlines

I went into it because I thought it would be easy…I can’t leave because of the 80k debt

unreal, sorry to hear ... I still have a lot myself (not that much, but lots) from Educ degree(s)
can’t leave because of the 80k debt

worse is I can’t land a contract job these days (in part) because of the economy, so I substitute teach :-/

I'm trying to join the army...for the 60k education relief
I can understand the fridge in the living room, but why is your girl not in the kitchen?
because it's 2012?
Because the kitchen is in the living room?
our landlord is renovating our kitchen.
I'm wishing that it were warmer in DC

so that I could smoke a cigar on my balcony while I contemplate all the ways Denver is going to be embarrassed on Sunday. It’s supposed to warm up by Friday though, so there’s hope yet.

Anyone watching the Orange Bowl?

Clemson is being thouroughly disrespected

I am off and on

Looks like this one is going to be over early.

i rather watch golf than this game
There's more defense in golf
especially when tiger wood's wife comes after you
Watched basketball tonight, and drank some of the new Red IPA.

The further I get into it, the more I’m thinking this is the Arrowhead Red recipe for good.

Well start distributing, MFer
What I gotsta do?
Come to my neck of the woods and you can have at it. =)
Well where the hell is that?
Wichita, KS area.

I’d love to distribute, but I don’t have the cash flow to pay the permits, let alone bribe the drivers to put it on the trucks! =)

There's a whole Discovery Channel series about modern illegal alcohol manufacture and distribution.
I'd rather get a good flight of beers going and start up a brewpub.

I’ve got plenty of growlers for everyone else for now. =)

Loving these weather updates
  1. reason to read AP.
btw anybody pissed off by powerball?

$2 FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Damn.

Sandwich photography, excellent.

I don't care what anybody says

This is an awesome song

how about those mountaineers?

dont pick against WVU in BCS games

Corby Jones took care of 'em back in the day.
before my time, but i've heard mentions of what mizzou did to wvu once

wvu in the big 12 should be fun

Tim Howard is a class guy.

And the 4th ’keeper to ever score from the run of play in EPL history.

bolton is something else this year

too bad everton lost to them

They are super-awful, although Holden coming back will help a bit.

Really can’t believe Everton dropped points.

pretty bad loss

i haven’t paid as close of attention this season as most

Being an Arsenal fan, I tune in, they suck.

I stop watching, they make up a little ground. I need to shut it down for the season for their good.

i don't really have a team

usually just root for teams that have dutch stars.

Which means you're an Arjen Robben fan?

Please tell me you don’t like Nigel De Jong…

what isn't to like?

robben has a lot of work to do to make up for blowing the breakaway against spain last year. that nearly killed me.

No doubt there.

De Jong broke a couple of my favorite players’ legs…not to mention the karate kick in the Finals last year. I’m not a fan of the guy.

yeah, if he wasn't dutch, i wouldn't okay his game

the dutch don’t usually have an enforcer like him though. i could see why people would hate him though.

Truth.

They play a lot more straightforward game. I bet you’re enjoying the fact that he’ll put his nose into challenges.

it helps

sometimes the dutch are too finesse. he’s an amped up version of the de boer boys.

i can’t wait for euro 2012 to start. 156 days i think. spain, holland, germany….going to be epic.

Yeah, we pick a team, and whoever's last buys lunch for first.

Thing is, Spain’s off the table. I’m going with Germany, but I can see them getting tripped up early.

i always think sweden can make some noise

the group of death might just take down one of holland or germany. i think they’re both too strong, but you never know.

I always like them on paper, but they're too inconsistent.

Kinda like Russia. You think “Hey, maybe”, and then they bomb out.

right, i always get my hopes up for them

never happens except 1994 world cup. henrik larsson should’ve made it happen.

rooney is still out for the group stage, correct?

Yup.

Idiot. I hope he costs ’em an advancement.

i wouldn't be surprised if he did

they might be able to eek out two 1-0 victories without him, should be interesting.

Holey shiz, dropped half a hundred on 'em already.
This is #15 Clemson, right?

How the hell is this a BCS bowl?

#15 vs #23.

I’m looking forward to the Cotton Bowl.

Oh yes.

My second most anticipated Bowl Game. First was the Fiesta Bowl, and it didn’t disappoint.

I don't understand this.

Last three bowl games I’ve watched with AP have been great games. I don’t know where the mojo went tonight.

Blame the BCS.

This very well could have been KSU/Arkansas.

They'll still play each other.

I don’t get caught up in where/when because I don’t get a cut of the BCS money.

I would’ve liked to see Boise/KSU.

Right, but both of those schools would've benefitted from it.

Boise/KSU would have been fun, but the Cotton Bowl is going to be a bruiser, and I’m very okay with that. It’s Klein’s sort of game.

As a Mizzou fan, I hope they're exposed like a cheap Tebow.

/sour grapes

As a KU fan, enjoy the SEC. ;-)
Thanks

May you also find the path to freedom from Texas.

You realize that KU and MU were the only remaining charter Big 8 members? Nebraska wasn’t one, they dropped out a year or two back in the day.

Yeah, I did know that.

Losing the rivalry sucks, for sure. Going to be hard not to automatically root against you guys. =)

That habit will take a long time to break.

I don’t see how it can happen, honestly :)

I need some of them shirts
x

Hate worthy then, hate worthy now :)
Continuous charter members, that is.
bleh kalo!

respect diminished! (ok not really but come still!!!)

should read

come on* changed my words in mind but not on the puter.

And likewise. =)
clemson can't handle the 'eers

heck of a coaching job during the break

I think Clemson's coach is crying
this kid is ticked

He refused to pay tuition next year

because of the disgrace

I would be, too.

This is embarrassing.

The Orange Bowl?

What’s the score?

63-20

In reverse order of the school’s rankings.

I wouldn't know their rankings anyway.
Just taking a shot at ranking in general.
About the only reason to keep watching is to see how much they end up scoring
Dana won't slow things down.
Make it 62

63 to come.

well this is a horrible game. Good night all.
Have a good one

take care of yourself

I wouldn've faked that punt.
˙uʍop ǝpısdn pɹıǝʍ sʞool ǝpıɹd pɐǝɥʍoɹɹɐ
AP as viewed from Australia?
No, just tired.
if we do end up losing bowe this offseason

i wouldn’t mind drafting this tavon austin guy from west virginia, big playmaker

he's a junior

dude can fly though. this is his best game of the season.

i read somewhere he was comin out

said he projected as a 3rd rounder, but only one source so who knows

i wouldn't be shocked if he comes out

i hope he doesn’t though. i don’t see his stock rising any higher than 3rd round though, so it would make sense to leave if that is where he’s projected.

Man, that run really looked like one of Charles'.

/tear

Thinking I may flip over to my real name for the forseeable future.

Used to be a way to do that, but you’ve got to contact a mod now? Is that right?

How will we know it's you?
His real name is PhoenixKalo

Shouldn’t be too hard.

It's not really a secret.

It’ll be more like Bajah’s switch.

Who?
You know, that one guy. =)

He’s BJ Kissel now.

So you'll be KP Kissel?
I was thinking of switching over to a handle.
Oh really?

My nose looked like that once.

/flag football

Looks like Rapistberger's nose last year.
Look everyone

It’s Joe Flacco

...or maybe not.

There’s a couple "Craig"’s around here as it is. Might add to the confusion.

That could be hilarious.

Remember “craignotincalgary?” What happened to that dude?

He moved to Calgary?
I was about a second away from hitting Post on the exact same thing
It makes me happy to bring the straight line to so many.
possible scenario

i wouldn’t mind resigning carr, packaging dorsey/bowe and a 2nd for rams 1st pick and get rg3. then drafting him in 3rd/possibly 4th. an idea at least, but imagine all the speed we would have on the field with charles in the backfield 3 wr set of baldwin, breaston, and this guy in the slot. rg3 at the helm. one can dream:)

Driving home from work

smooth sailing 85% of the way home. Just hit dead stop traffic.

Yeah, that's why I don't like cities.
I love living out in the country

At times it can be a bit of a drive to get places, but it’s just so nice and quiet.

One nice thing about living/working in St. Joe, MO,

there’s no commute longer than 15 minutes.

unreal. I-76 here in Philly has to be one of the worst highways in the country.
Called out an entire family of tourists in a parking lot today

a snot nosed teen was standing outside of his car in a parking space and got mad that I parked in the parking space he was standing in, said something stupid and probably didn’t think I’d do anything about it. Needless to say the guy cowered and probably won’t be doing that any time soon.

How stupid is that though? You’re standing in a place designated to cars and you get mad when someone wants to park there? It’s like walking in to a burger shop and being mad they sell burgers there. Fuck new school man

What exactly did you do?
didn’t think I’d do anything about it
called em out haha

probably not the best idea, luckily the three guys in the car all sat with their tails between their legs

Anyone know

What Kendrick Lewis’s surgery was today? It’s all over his twitter, just not a what. Knee i assume, he was hurt a bit. Maybe scope and clean?

Just seeing that.

Hadn’t heard anything, myself.

Shoulder I think.

Someone put up a FahShot a little while ago, said he hurt it in the second half the other day or something.

Ah.

He wasn’t playing like it was a problem.

I think Lewis is a lot like Flowers

He’s not coming out of the game unless he absolutely has to.

Wonder if it was when he laid the wood to Tebow.
Hrm.

Why can’t I remember that shot? He was flying everywhere Sunday, I can’t single any out other than the fumble.

Only thing I remember

is Lewis jumping on Tebow’s back to cause the fumble.

That's what I meant.

Maybe it wasn’t that big of a hit, though.

Probably got touched by Jacob's angel after that.
Did Tebow fall on him when they went out of bounds?

Might have been hurt then. Kendrick’s not exactly a big guy.

Could have been when he dove for that terrible Tebow throw too.
Good call.

He did lay out for that, didn’t he?

Which one?

There were so many.

Which one?

Care to narrow that one down kind sir?

Ha!

Somehow, I knew I’d get that reaction.

It was the one that inspired me to comment that his throws are so inaccurate, they couldn’t even be intercepted. If it was just poorly thrown, it would have been an easy pick. But it was so terribly thrown, even Lewis couldn’t get to it.

Oh

The Tebow Special. Methinks I remember that

wasn't it his shoulder?

probably read some weird comment today and took it for fact

DAMN still hittin in this game!
Ouch

Talk about getting slammed.

Tandem form tackle.
That is how the game is played

love that stuff

Wish we could see a little more form tackling from the Chiefs
Forte does not.
Are they doing the kneeldown from the shotgun?
103 combined points

Shame it wasn’t closer to a 53-50 split, would’ve been a more interesting game.

I looked up ass whopping in the dictionary and found this game
just got off work.

Working at night and taking care of my 2 daughters ages 4 and 3 years old so yea I’m pretty tired. If Kc let’s bowe go for nothing or atleast without bringing someone else in. I’m going to be one pissed off chief fan. Der I said it.
