The Kansas City Chiefs officially introduced Romeo Crennel as the new head coach at a Monday afternoon press conference attended by Crennel, owner Clark Hunt and GM Scott Pioli. The guys had their introductory comments and then got into the Q&A session, which was highlighted by some coordinator and quarterback talk.
We'll start with the coordinator talk.
Offensive coordinator: "I don't know who it's going to be." That's your update. Exciting, right? So I'm not sure what Bill Muir's role will be if he doesn't retire, as NFL Network has reported he is likely to do. Crennel said that the OC position could be filled from inside or outside the building (as opposed to underneath) but no decision had been made.
Defensive coordinator: There's been a report that Chiefs linebackers coach Gary Gibbs could be promoted to DC but Crennel did not comment on that. He said the search for a defensive coordinator continues and, interestingly, he didn't rule himself out as the coordinator. The idea of Crennel sticking as the defensive coordinator is really the only bit of news we have in this one.
So the big update is....there is no update. (To be fair, we didn't expect a big update.) We're not any closer to finding the next coordinators for the Chiefs.

This is the most important part of the process...
Who else wants answers sooner rather than later?
Did the Chiefs re-up on the ability to be cute with information with the hiring of Romeo Crennel?
Who is the right fit?
Welcome to the Romeo Crennel era. For better or worse, it begins!
Chief-blinders-on - January 9, 2012
Well I wanted RAC to be HC and DC
So that works for me
CorFueled - January 9, 2012
I want him to call the defensive plays,
but I’d really like to see him get some up-and-comer to do the dirty work during the week. Like McCarthy/Philbin.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
Mel Tucker is intriguing
as is Jack Del Rio…
I want another DC brought in for the sake of game planning. Let us not forget the blowouts this season. Maybe it was all Haley, but new perspective under the tutelage of Romeo Crennel is welcome in my book.
This defense is far from good to go… it needs someones undivided attention IMO.
Chief-blinders-on - January 9, 2012
Is Mel still under contract with Jax?
Rev. Slappy - January 9, 2012
I have no idea what his contract situation is
but unless they pull a Kansas City, he will most likely be available.
Jacksonville is going into full scale rebuilding mode…my guess.
Chief-blinders-on - January 9, 2012
Agreed--the day-to-day stuff can't be the HC's responsibility, IMO
It works for some guys, but I don’t want Crennel to have that on his shoulders as he starts out.
burntorangehorn - January 9, 2012
I gotta admit, when we were having this same conversation about Haley being OC,
I didn’t even want him to call plays. I just wanted him to be HC during the game. But Romeo’s proven his defensive play calling skills, and I don’t think there’d be anybody better as long as we’re running his defense.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
Yeah, gameday is a different issue
It’d be great if Crennel had a guy who could implement the HC’s philosophy during the week, support the gameday playcalling of Crennel, and maybe offer a few new looks/perspectives from his own background. That’d be ideal, IMO.
burntorangehorn - January 9, 2012
Boo hiss. Hire Martz so we can fire him again.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
News update:
There are well over half a dozen days during the course of a week.
Chief-blinders-on - January 9, 2012
Surely you exaggerate!
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
I never exaggerate
and don’t call me Shirley.

Chief-blinders-on - January 9, 2012
Roger, Roger.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
What's our vector, Victor?
Chief-blinders-on - January 9, 2012
Romeo,
he’s the boss, the head man, the top dog, the big cheese, the head honcho, number one.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
the red zone is for loading and unloading passengers; there is no parking in the yellow zone

I know what this is about. You want me to have an abortion.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
Intuitive thinking
Chief-blinders-on - January 9, 2012
do you like movies about gladiators?
upamtn - January 9, 2012
No, but by coincidence I have been in a Turkish prison!
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking
upamtn - January 9, 2012
Oh, it's a big pretty white plane with red stripes and curtains in the windows and wheels and it looks like a big Tylenol!
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines
upamtn - January 9, 2012
I know but this guy has no flying experience at all. He's a menace to himself and everything else in the air... yes, birds too.
Chief-blinders-on - January 9, 2012
So he is
Number one?
Chief-blinders-on - January 9, 2012
Number one.

burntorangehorn - January 9, 2012
Al Davis in his youth?
upamtn - January 9, 2012
Dammit, I'm stuck behind my boss' firewall and I can't see what I'm sure is a fine example of your unrefined yet tacky wit.
In other words, I can’t see the pic/gif you posted :(
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
Robert Wagner (I think) with an eyepatch

Beat me to it
burntorangehorn - January 9, 2012
(Number Two from Austin Powers)
burntorangehorn - January 9, 2012
Or maybe there's another reason I can't see it.....
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
hmmm
Chief-blinders-on - January 9, 2012
Apparently I can only see my own pictures when I'm at work.
Lucky thing I’m so good at entertaining myself.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
so THAT'S what you call it when you do that thing with your non-typing hand
“entertainment”
very clever :-)
upamtn - January 9, 2012
Have to keep it clean. My mom might be on AP.
Or Steve.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
Hi, Mom!
upamtn - January 9, 2012
Hi Steve!
Chief-blinders-on - January 9, 2012
Don't, man.
She’d eat you alive.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
She’ll only come out at night
The lean and hungry type
Nothing is new, I’ve seen her here before
Watching and waiting
Ooh, she’s sittin’ with you but her eyes are on the door
So many have paid to see
What you think you’re gettin’ for free
The woman is wild, a she-cat tamed by the purr of a Jaguar
Money’s the matter
If you’re in it for love, you ain’t gonna get too far
Chief-blinders-on - January 9, 2012
Hey now. Let's get back to the actual topic of this website.
Bashing Tebow.
A cross upon his bedroom wall
From grace he will fall
An image burning in his mind
And between his thighs
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
I expect that we will hire an official DC, but that Romeo will continue to call the defensive plays

News Flash: Today is MONDAY
That is all
Ren - January 9, 2012
The Chiefs kind of give me this feeling...
Chief-blinders-on - January 9, 2012
I think there is an update in the OC situation.
It wont be Muir. If it was Muir then wouldnt they have said "We already have an OC’?
GenericBrand - January 9, 2012
Good point.
Tarkus - January 9, 2012
Well find out more whn Muir wakes up from his nap.
Ren - January 9, 2012
So August?
Isnt he hibernating?
GenericBrand - January 9, 2012
That sounds about right
Ren - January 9, 2012
I'll get the pitchfork
Chiefshero - January 9, 2012
I'm kind of sketch on who our dc will be...
I don’t want our 11th ranked D to Drop next year because Romeo isn’t the dc anymore. Berry will help but I’d like to be in the top 8 this coming year..
Wrestler189s - January 9, 2012 via mobile
I would be pretty surprised if the DC isn't in house with Romeo calling plays on Sunday.
GenericBrand - January 9, 2012
Speaking of OC's - this is bad news fellas
just posted a FanShot on this – but this does not look good.
GB Packer’s OC Philbin’s son missing – believed to have fallen into icy river in Wisconsin.
Best wishes and prayers for some positive news. Signs so far are not promising.
Ochophosphate - January 9, 2012
Oh gosh, that's awful!
I really hope they find him. That would just be horrible. As a parent, my mind is blocking itself from even imagining what that could be like.
burntorangehorn - January 9, 2012
I know - I feel ya
My boys are still super young (3 and 4), and I can’t even imagine going through something like this.
From what I hear Philbin is a great guy. It’s awful to hear about horrible things happening to good people. We can only hope and pray for the best.
Ochophosphate - January 9, 2012
I like to post at random places for some odd reason
Chiefshero - January 9, 2012
Oh crap -
Ren - January 9, 2012
Damn, not good.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
i bet the giants had something to do with this
Chiefshero - January 9, 2012
My guess
Jeff Davidson for OC.
History with RAC as his Offensive line coach/Assistant HC/OC in Cleveland.
He is a guy with Oline and TE experience. He should fit right in with RACs vision and philosophy.
Matt_Grbac - January 9, 2012 via mobile
Where is he now?
Tarkus - January 9, 2012
Minnesota
He is their OL coach. I just looked up his resume. His time in Carolina isn’t exactly promising. Out of 4 years he only had one good year in 2008 where they ranked top 10. His last year they were dead last in points and yards.
I_Bleed_Red. - January 9, 2012
Doesn't sound promising.

i think half of us are spaming
i blame the schools
Chiefshero - January 9, 2012
It's pretty much an open thread with a nice intro.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
we really don't deserve such a treat on a Monday
upamtn - January 9, 2012
Clever..
ScoutSoldier - January 9, 2012
I didn't read all of the comments so this might have been said already
Pioli said that the coaching staff will be entirely left up to Crennel. This makes me feel a little better about that situation.
JoMo Chiefs fan - January 9, 2012
doesn't that usually translate to "he gets who I give him and that's that"
upamtn - January 9, 2012
more like he'll get it and like it
and I will force him to look at me
Chiefshero - January 9, 2012
I actually might prefer that. Not sure I want Romeo bringing in the offensive guys he had in Cleveland.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
that whole organization is pretty offensive
upamtn - January 9, 2012
if they're offensive, I rather not have them around the kids
Chiefshero - January 9, 2012
Don't look, kids!
SCKSChief - January 9, 2012
This doesn't seem quite right
Just because we, the fans, don’t know anything doesn’t mean that the Chiefs haven’t made any progress. I think it’d be better to say that we’re not any closer to finding out the next coordinators…
Btw, I don’t post often, but I’m an everyday reader. Keep up the good work, everyone!
timmer - January 9, 2012
I dont know
I think (maybe this is wishful thinking/kool-aid drinking) that Crennel and Pioli will get along and work together much better than he and haley did. If everyone is on the same page, I think next year could be very exciting.
JoMo Chiefs fan - January 9, 2012
didn't you know
the first murder of 2012 was in Independence Missouri…over kool aid
Chiefshero - January 9, 2012
What?
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
yea the first murder of 2012 was in independence missouri
2 guys fought over kool aid
although they hated each other before, that incident sparked the shoot off
Chiefshero - January 9, 2012
Anybody seen Aiken lately?
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
Agreed
timmer - January 9, 2012
One thing I'm pretty sure about, RAC will always prioritize winning over his personal ego.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
yup
upamtn - January 9, 2012
we could always hire herm
he plays to win the game
Chiefshero - January 9, 2012
DB coach, or scout.
Or he can just stand around and talk.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
would be more interesting than pioli
Chiefshero - January 9, 2012
Not to be underestimated
timmer - January 9, 2012
fact: 98% of us will someday die
Chiefshero - January 9, 2012
True stuff
SCKSChief - January 9, 2012
OC seems like more of a mystery to me.
Sticking with a DC in house makes more obvious sense.
timmer - January 9, 2012
OCs are a dying breed. We need to find them and breed them with each other to become super OC
Chiefshero - January 9, 2012
Has anyone read "Good to Great"?
Romeo seems to fit the mold of a “level 5 leader” (that’s a good thing) more than the average NFL coach. Research proved that companies with a humble, self-sacrificial, genuinley-interested-in-others leaders were more likely to become great companies.
timmer - January 9, 2012
was a good Forbes article recently on bad traits of executives ... being self-centered was one of them
upamtn - January 9, 2012
Self-centered people are the best at calling attention to themselves and thereby get promoted.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
But enough about me.
What do you think about me?

How To Be More Interesting

In case anyone is interestred...
Here’s a link to some videos by the author about level 5 leadership.

Leadership Lessons: Don't Try to Be the Smartest Person in the Room
whew, one less thing for me to worry about!
Seven Habits Of Unsuccessful Executives … actually a good read
upamtn - January 9, 2012
THAT'S what I've been doing wrong!
I mean….yeah, I knew that.
Brsrkr - January 9, 2012
Stop trying to lead me around!
Tarkus - January 9, 2012
Pioli only seems to display 4 of these 7 traits - I think we are ok???
Habit #3: They think they have all the answers
Habit #4: They ruthlessly eliminate anyone who isn’t completely behind them
Habit #6: They underestimate obstacles
Habit #7: They stubbornly rely on what worked for them in the past
electriclight - January 9, 2012
I dunno ... 4 out of 7 on the wrong side, not looking great but we MIGHT survive if he leaves Crennel alone
upamtn - January 9, 2012
With Josh McDaniels gone...
I have a feeling Jim Zorn could be our offensive coordinator. Can anyone else see that as a possibility?
supersoccersteven - January 9, 2012
I can see Jim Zorn as OC
I hope he is ready.
