Well, this is strange. Really strange.
On January 1, NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reported via league sources that Kansas City Chiefs offensive line coach Bill Muir was "likely" to retire.
On January 24, Bob Gretz of BobGretz.com quoted Muir as saying that he will not retire and he plans to return to the Chiefs, not as offensive coordinator, but as offensive line coach.
And now, February 1, we have another report that Muir will retire. Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com has the report.
So...Muir's retiring...he's not retiring....and now he's retiring.
Anyone know the truth here?

Enough with the Favre treatment, Muir!
Calabaloo - February 1, 2012
Ha!
Tarkus - February 1, 2012
Good comparison.
I think they went to college together.
TwelfthMan - February 1, 2012
The answer
is on tape somewhere at 1 Arrowhead.
NJ Chiefs Fan - February 1, 2012
He will retire after he doesn't.
oldchiefsfan - February 1, 2012
Muir IS taking a nap
Chief Willie Wildcat - February 1, 2012
its gameday again?
slackator - February 1, 2012
He's old. What do you expect?
bossmanham - February 1, 2012
Shitty driving?
severn58 - February 1, 2012
I wonder why RAC once referred to him as
“Billy Favre”
Chief Willie Wildcat - February 1, 2012
Chiefs i.e. Pioli are trying to force him into retirement
Obviously Muir doesn’t want to retire.
Nothing gets leaked from Arrowhead without a purpose, and that purpose is to try and force him into retirement.
If they don’t want him back, just fire him, stop playing games and jerking the guy around
GracieKal - February 1, 2012
Just stop paying him, it will clear up on it's own
Muir even looks a bit like an old Milton
mushin - February 1, 2012
Fix the glitch
Ochophosphate - February 1, 2012
Ok...
I guess I’ll just set the building on fire…

That may be the highest compliment I've ever received
Thank you

Pacific Chief - February 1, 2012
this is probably closest to the truth imo
LHO - February 1, 2012 via mobile
yup
because its ALWAYS Piolis faultslackator - February 1, 2012
Actually, by definition of the job, it is ALWAYS Pioli's fault
Even if he had nothing to do with it personally.
mushin - February 1, 2012
@adamteicher
Bill Muir, last year’s offensive coordinator for the #Chiefs, has told the team he’s retiring. Story to come at http://kansascity.com
Chief Willie Wildcat - February 1, 2012
Thanks, Willie.
Tarkus - February 1, 2012
So now we need an OC, a OL coach, a WR coach, a DC, and a high up draft guru
Um somebody start getting some hiring done fast!
ChiefMizzou09 - February 1, 2012
Probably don't need a DC
per se unless Crennel adds that to someone’s title as he’s calling the plays.
golfbard - February 1, 2012
Luckily we have a GM that coaches are just lining up to work for
HIV 2 Elway - February 1, 2012
Phew!
Luckily
Chief-blinders-on - February 1, 2012
don't forget a #1 WR or #2 CB
Pioli’s not going to be able to sign one of them if he hasn’t to this point. He’ll franchise one and lose the other
Chiefs_KC - February 1, 2012
That's completely false
Why would the player sign an offer without at least seeing what another team is willing to pay? They have all the leverage in the world right now and aren’t going to do anything until they need to.
excidium - February 1, 2012
then we are in agreement. Pioli could have locked up Carr last season or during this season like Flowers, Hali, etc
Carr’s been getting one year tenders, why would he sign here now that he’s set to be a FA? Pioli will have to overpay the market since he didn’t sign him long-term before this point
Chiefs_KC - February 1, 2012
Tamba Hali.
Tarkus - February 1, 2012
I don't agree at all
I’m saying it’s too early to tell and I don’t think we’re to the point where we can say we’re losing either yet.
excidium - February 1, 2012
maybe, but if the dollars are the same in KC and say Detroit where Carr's from or a SB contender
I don’t think he’ll pick the Chiefs
Chiefs_KC - February 1, 2012
Tamba Hali was tagged and didn't get resigned until just before the start of the season.
Could go the same way with Carr. I just don’t see them letting Carr hit the market.
Tomahawk29 - February 1, 2012
This is what happens when you disturb his hibernation.
Let the poor man sleep!
GenericBrand - February 1, 2012
Atlanta just fired OL coach Paul Boudreau
wonder if he’s a target. He’s a veteran coach who has been around for a long time.
golfbard - February 1, 2012
He got let go because they did a poor job of protecting Matt Cassel....errr Ryan
And Dmitroff is POSITIVE that Cassel…errr Ryan isn’t the problem.
GenericBrand - February 1, 2012
Well played.
Tarkus - February 1, 2012
FREE MUIR!

GenericBrand - February 1, 2012
wow ... after the quotes from him last week
isn’t it nice that there’s such CLEAR communications over at one Arrowhead Drive
upamtn - February 1, 2012
I smell a Bruce Arians legnth retirement?
Where does Muir go next?
Chief-blinders-on - February 1, 2012
Wish him luck in his retirement
He did a good job with the O-Line in ‘10. I’ll give him that.
And my bill for the therapy I have to undergo for watching the offense this season.
mushin - February 1, 2012
Not strange
Muirs just senile and has forgotten that hes already filed the necessary paperwork.
Replace “Muir” with “Favre” and could you imagine the shitstorm this would be
slackator - February 1, 2012
I felt
they built a good coaching staff around Haley to give him a chance to succeed. So far, I can’t say the same for Romeo. Seems a lot of people exiting, not a lot entering 1 Arrowhead Dr
KansasCityShuffle - February 1, 2012
Yeah.
They’ll really miss Muir’s dynamic playcalling, and Hoffman’s great blocking schemes.
Tarkus - February 1, 2012
You forgot.
All those things were Crennel’s fault for not doing something about it.
GenericBrand - February 1, 2012
Muir > Haley
Haley is a fraud of an offensive coordinator. Plain & simple.
KansasCityShuffle - February 1, 2012
I hope he gets the job in Pitt
I want to see what kind of OC he really is. And I’d like to see James Harrison come after him on the sidelines leading with his helmet.
mushin - February 1, 2012
I was going to debate this....
But after seeing “plain and simple” you’ve given me no room to work with. Airtight.
GenericBrand - February 1, 2012
Nuff said.
Tarkus - February 1, 2012
theres no way around that......
KCinAZ - February 1, 2012
You could work with a loophole.
Respond with a counter argument and end it with both “Period!” and “NUFF SAID!”
Coming back against that is like trying to divide by zero.
TRSChief - February 1, 2012
Only if you said that
Muir suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Eastcoastransplant - February 1, 2012
Hrm. Needs moar capslock.
TRSChief - February 1, 2012
Well the limit goes to 0
So therefore, divide by 0 and u get an number of epic proportions. Therefore, by that logic, there is an infinite number of responses.
NJChieffan16 - February 1, 2012 via mobile
oh, I forgot something
This work for you cuzz, "Muir SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX!!!!!!!!!!!"Eastcoastransplant - February 1, 2012
haley called the plays not muir
niageriannit1 - February 1, 2012
except for when Muir did
slackator - February 1, 2012
Dante Scarnecchia, oline coach for Pats as new OC
Pioli needs more yes men
Chiefs_KC - February 1, 2012
So much for those hard hitting Bob Gretz questions
I was kind of looking forward to Bill Muir coaching the line again, oh well. Quick somebody get Will Shields on the phone.
Chief-blinders-on - February 1, 2012
Funny.
Tarkus - February 1, 2012
So if Muir retires at his age, and his coaching gigs are done for good
Think he’ll spill the beans about 1 Arrowhead Dr?
mushin - February 1, 2012
Geez, whoever the new oline coach is...
…please give them more talent to work with.
Pacific Chief - February 1, 2012
Albert, Asamoah, Hudson and Lilja have some talent
I wonder if they will explore moving Ryan Lilja back to RG.
A new line coach could mean some shifting, what if we bring in a coach that is on the Albert “Natural Postion” committee each draft season?
Lots of good story lines this offseason.
Chief-blinders-on - February 1, 2012
And it gets more interesting.
Tarkus - February 1, 2012
Hahahaha
The wheels are quickly falling off this bus.
GenericBrand - February 1, 2012
falling off?
They were still on?
mushin - February 1, 2012
Touche
GenericBrand - February 1, 2012
are we on the rims yet
niageriannit1 - February 1, 2012
Hmmm, intradesting. Whole lotta gnus today.
severn58 - February 1, 2012
New 2012 strategy
Pay Carr and Bowe and stick with Cassel. Tank season because this is turning into a gong show. Clean house. And with the first pick of the 2013 draft….QOTF. Its almost worth it at this point.
GenericBrand - February 1, 2012
Pioli won't sink his ship this year. I agree on needing to clean house though
I’d argue that if we’re looking to clean house and draft QBOTF #1 next year that Bowe should be franchised and traded for draft picks
Chiefs_KC - February 1, 2012
yeah in 83 we thought we had the the QOTF in todd blackledge, thats the last time we have drafted a qb in the first rd
niageriannit1 - February 1, 2012
And that was 29 years ago.
Yes considering whom we could have gotten instead it’s tragic. But b/c it didn’t work one time does not mean we should forever give up on drafting a QB.
Eastcoastransplant - February 1, 2012
Well Jim... Don't let Palko hit you in the ass with a soft throw on your way out.
This team doesn’t need to bow to the demands of Jim Zorn. It needs a fresh start on offense.
Chief-blinders-on - February 1, 2012
Starting to think it needs a fresh start on everything
Except for Crennel, Hali, Houston, TJax, DJ, Flowers, Carr, Berry, Lewis, Bowe, Albert, Asamoah, Hudson, Charles, Baldwin and Moeaki.
GenericBrand - February 1, 2012
Don't forget Breaston, Colquitt, Succop... Emmitt Thomas
and so many others.
Chief-blinders-on - February 1, 2012
Meh
Kickers, 3rd WRs and DB coaches are a dime a dozen.
GenericBrand - February 1, 2012
So you dump them just to dump them?
Tarkus - February 1, 2012
Nope
Just not including them in my core group of players to build around if the whole thing gets blown up after next season.
GenericBrand - February 1, 2012
K
Tarkus - February 1, 2012
Next season? So the franchise is blowing up again?
Hooray for the next 6 year plan!
NJChieffan16 - February 1, 2012 via mobile
No, it's not.
Tarkus - February 1, 2012
well, you could say it's been a 40 year plan to this point, if the team's off course already, time to correct it before it ends up in England
Chiefs_KC - February 1, 2012
Core group of non-negotiable core players*
GenericBrand - February 1, 2012
I love reading all this conspiracy talk about "1 Arrowhead Drive"
This is probably what’s going on. The employees got used to the same bosses/way of life for what…20 years? A new guy comes in and shakes things up…becomes more strict, more detail oriented.
Employees don’t like the change.
Emp A to Emp B: Man things are getting really strict around here, did you hear about that candy wrapper story? It’s almost like he had cameras on it.
Emp B to Emp C: Pioli knew I didn’t hand in a report on time… it’s like he’s watching me or something.
Emp C to media: Uhhh I keep hearing our phones are bugged. (even though I have no proof of this, I’m going to spin it because Pioli doesn’t talk to the media and I can get away with it)
Media: Uses this as a “source”. and THAT’S how a conspiracy is born.
Brad-KC - February 1, 2012
He's retiring as O coordinator
But staying as line coach…that answers all the reports.
tlback20 - February 1, 2012
hit the?
Chief-blinders-on - February 1, 2012
I thought he was retiring completely.
Reports say he was offered the O-line coaching job and he turned it down.
golfbard - February 1, 2012
Yep.
He’s gone.
