We don't do a lot of giveaways or things like that around here but this one fits in nicely with what I truly enjoy: Chipotle Burritos.
Yes, I'm a huge Chipotle fan and eat there regularly so I was very pleased when the folks at Chipotle offered up 10 free burritos to one of our readers. Their angle for the big game is they'll just give out some free burritos instead of spending tons of money on an ad. So, on gameday, if you pick up one of their burritos in a box, half your order of six or more is free.
But the more pressing issue is that I have 10 free burritos to give away to one of you.
Here's how we'll do this: Give us your greatest Chiefs memory in the comments. The person with the most recs (recommended) by 7:00 p.m. (Arrowhead Time) tonight wins the burritos. And you should also be available via email for me to reach you.
(Note: To "rec" something...if you're a registered user, click "actions" and then "rec".)
[Update: We have a winner -- AP user RememberDelaney37 for this memory.]

I worked for the Chiefs maintenance department in 2002
We had to be at the stadium on game days several hours before kickoff. My boss comes up to me one sunday morning before the game starts, tells me to hop in the cart and ride with him. We take the long drive up the tunnel to the main offices. We head inside, through all of the exec offices and head right into Lamar’s office (very cluttered). I stand at the door while my boss goes behind his desk, opens up the display case, walks over to me, says “Don’t drop this” and hands me the Lombardi Trophy.
Jaw dropped, hands trembling, I carry it out of the offices, covered, ride with it back down to the field to set it up at a podium mid-field for some pre game ceremony.
Words can’t describe the feeling.

It would be an incredible tale
I wish it was mine, so i could write it. Make it happen Rem, perhaps mix in why Joe Delaney is special to you, a personal story about the Chiefs Super Bowl and you would really have something there.

2003 Dante Hall return
It has to be the Dante Hall return against Denver in 2003 where he made about 10 defenders his bitch while on his way to a glorious touchdown!
wildcatn8 - February 1, 2012
The date: December 27, 1992.
The scene: Arrowhead Stadium.
Derrick Thomas leads the Chiefs to a 42-20 win over the hated Denver Broncos with 3 sacks. Man, that guy loved to torture Elway.
The gentleman in the seat next to me: George Brett. One of the best days of my life. I still have my little Chiefs football with Brett’s signature on it.

December 19, 2004
It was my first Chiefs game and an early Christmas present from my mom. I was so excited to go, that I could not stop shaking or talking about it the whole drive there. During the entire drive, I kept saying, “You know how awesome it would be if Dante Hall returned the opening kickoff? That’d be so cool!” As we stood in the stands after yelling “Home of the CHIEFS!!!” for my first time, I turned to my mom and told her that Dante was going to do it. I felt it, and I knew it was going to happen. He was going to take the opening kickoff back for a touchdown.
And he did just that. I lost my voice during that very single play, and I was unable to speak for the next 3 days. The Chiefs went on to demolish Denver 45-17, which is always a good sight. I will never, ever forget my first Chiefs game. That day is burned in to my memory forever.
Pickle29 - February 1, 2012
I don't have a real tender touching moment
but my most memorable moment was in 1993, watching the Chiefs Vs. the Houston Oilers in the Playoffs. The Oilers had home field advantage and the Chiefs spoiled it.
The Moment Joe Montana threw a TD to TE Keith Cash and Cash ran to the corner of the Endzone and spiked the ball in the giant poster of Buddy Ryan’s face. To this day I can still remember every bit of it. I had just turned 8.

When Willie Roaf came to Chiefs and paired with Brian Waters, Casey Wiegmann, Will Shields and John Tait I was sure we were going to the Super Bowl. With Priest running behind that line. I’m still wondering how we never made it to at least the AFC Championship game. However, I’m thankful for the great games they gave us.

Don't live anywhere near a Chipotles or whatever it is....but I'll take a stab at it.
My favorite Chiefs memory is attending my first game at Arrowhead with my brother.
We grew up in the same home supporting two different teams. He had his Cowboys and I had my Chiefs. He had Super Bowls and I had Joe Montana. He had HOF QB, RB, and WR. I had Marty Schottenhimer. He had a billionaire control freak owner. I had one of the most passionate visionaries in NFL history.
With that being said, we went to watch the Chiefs play the Cowboys at Arrowhead. It was a game I will never forget. Bowe catching the game tying TD right in front of me…..screaming my lungs out. Then the Miles TD run that made me hang my head.
Even though we lost it was a memorable time that I will never forget. I love the Chiefs even more because of that day.

That was my first Arrowhead game!
Went with the ex-girlfriend. It was such a good game. Don’t forget the Vrabel TD too! And the horribly obnoxious Cowboys fans after the game.

Truthfully
I cannot compete with holding the Lombardi Trophy. But I do love Chipotle. It would have to be my split-second trip decision to go to the Chargers Monday Night game this year. It was one of my favorite wins ever. I wrote about it in that article and how great the trip and game was. Haven’t felt that good in years. Obviously it all didn’t work out for the team, but the image of Caseel, Haley, and everyone being happy and the guys running into the crowd with the masks on was unreal.
Steve_in_RI - February 1, 2012
I agree. This is one is up there for me.
I bought tickets for me and my girlfriend to go well in advance of the game. I had never been to a night game at Arrowhead. I took off work on Monday and Tuesday to go. We just came off of our 3 game winning streak, including whooping the Raiders, and this was a primetime showdown, under the lights, for first in the division. I’ll never forget looking at her and saying “babe, we need a miracle.” Then that douche fumbled and the rest was history (my first overtime game at Arrowhead too)
Watching highlights all day Tuesday, I laughed everytime I watched that douche say "worst day ever in slooooooow motion.

1998 Broncos vs. Chiefs playoff game
I had enlisted to go the army in 97, my senior year of high school, and through out the year the recruiters took the 8 people from my school to multiple games that year. At the beginning of games we would have to pass out stuff like team schedules, roster programs, and other kinds of souvenirs. After that we would get into the games for free.
I remember at the playoff game we passed out these towels, kinda like the Chiefs version of the terrible towel, and we went to our seats. Normally we had ok seats, but for this game they surprised us and we had seats on the field literally. They set up some bleacher type seats and we sat close to the end zone. The same end zone where Tony G. caught that TD pass but the refs said he was out of bounds. I literally had a front row seat to that and I got to witness one of the main reasons instant replay was reinstated.

Derrick Thomas and his cast
One of my favorite Chiefs memories is when Derrick Thomas had the cast on his hand. Instead of letting the the injury hamper him, he terrorized QBs even more by using his cast as a club.

And another one
Circa 2004, I went on a double date with a girl and this other couple. My first date with this girl. We went to dinner and to the old dance club down in Westport; the name escapes me, but used to be next to Buzzard Beach.
We come in, I walk to the bar to get us drinks and I notice Eric Warfield sitting at the bar. Next to him, Tony G. and Jason Dunn, surrounded by women. I walk back to my group and as I go, I walk right past Dante Hall. I stop, say hello to him, wish him luck (very nice guy), and head back to my group.
I get back, tell them that all of those players are at the bar, and my date immediately asks “Where?” I point them out, and she doesn’t even say anything; she makes a beeline straight for them. Me and the other couple just look at each other bewildered, but just assume she just wants to meet them.
We wait around for about 20 or 30 minutes while she schmoozes up with Dante Hall. He is all over her, and needless to say, I’m humiliated. I walk up to her, and tell her we are leaving, and she just says “bye”.
The couple and I leave, and not a couple if minutes after, something happens in the club, the cops show up, and everyone starts pouring out of the bar. We are across the street in front of old Stanford and Sons when a big Escalade pulls up right in front of us, and Dante and my date come running up from the club. I watch my date get in the Escalade and I walk up to Dante and tell him “Take care of her”. He responds, “Oh, I will”.
I dated a Chiefs groupie whore!

I'll share a story...
on HOW I came to be a Chiefs fan.
I live in Rochester, NY, so all I get to hear about is Bills, Bills, Bills. When I was little, my father would drive me around town so he could get his usual Saturday errands done. We always went to a hardware store, and in the store was one of those machines where you put the quarter in, turn the dial, and out popped a plastic NFL helmet, with stickers and facemask all ready to assembled.
Now, my father was, and still is, a Chiefs fan. But he never brainwashed me to become one. Never bought me little baby clothes that said “My first Chiefs tee” or fun stuff like that. He let me like and follow whoever I wanted to like and follow.
Well one day I really wanted one of those NFL plastic helmets. I was about 7, and I never had one before. I really really wanted one, and pleaded with my dad for a quarter. He gave me a quarter, and there it was….a Kansas City Chiefs plastic helmet. I remember asking him in the car on the drive home “Dad, are they a good team?” (this was a year or two before the Montana signing). My dad’s response was “they’re the best.” I’ve been hooked ever since.
ibuc05 - February 1, 2012
I too became a Chiefs fan while living in Rochester
Couldn’t stand the Bills (love Jim Kelly as a person, hated him on the field). Older brothers were Niners fans. I followed Montana to Kansas City.

This was my first year of having season tickets with the chiefs, I got to enjoy the Halloween game and suffer through the Bills Blowout but I don’t think I have ever had more fun than the Chiefs Packers game. On the way to the game we were trying to figure out how we were going to heckle the undefeated and defending super bowl champs. We decided to “kill them with kindness” every single packers fan that we saw we would say “going to the playoffs two years in a row must be tiring” or “Nobody wants to win ALL the games” as the game went on the packers fans went from happy to annoyed to angry. The look on their faces by the end of the game was priceless and we did nothing but complimented them the whole game.
Not as good as holding the Lombardi Trophy but still sweet.

September 14, 2003
I was 15 years old, and had never really been a football fan. I had played baseball competitively since I was very young, I wasn’t allowed to play football in middle school (parents thought I’d get hurt) and up to this point had never really been a fan of professional teams. My family was mostly in Colorado, and they were quasi-Broncos fans. Anyhow, one of my father’s friends had season tickets, and gave us some of his tickets for this week 2 game versus the Steelers.
My dad’s friend was walking through the parking lot wearing his personalized #22 jersey with his name on the back. As we walked by a rowdy group of tailgaters, some started heckling him, “Did we sign Emmitt Smith?” Once we walked past and he saw the name Jensen on the back, he another guy yelled “Who the hell is Jensen? Are you the kicker?” My dad’s friend yelled back “I’m the guy who’s gonna kick your ass!” As a 15 year old kid who had never really heard adults yell profanities in public, I was grinning from ear to ear.
We got inside the stadium and my brother and I were given the lower level seats. We didn’t know what to expect. I remember getting a severe case of goosebumps after the crowd yelled “CHIEFS!” at the end of the national anthem. The other distinct memory of the game came when Dante Hall took a kick back 100 yards for a touchdown, and the guy next to me (who I hadn’t said a word to) had his hands on my shoulders and we were all jumping like crazy, trying to help Dante get to the endzone. When he did there was a seemingly endless game of stranger high-fiving, and it was awesome.
After that game, my family converted to Chiefsdom, and had season tickets until we all started moving around the country for school. That game marked the beginning of what has become out of control fandom for me, as I now know everything you could want to about the Chiefs, Royals, and Timberwolves (<—not my best choice, met KG once and got me hooked). I still get to Arrowhead once a year and it is a holy experience everytime, even when we lose to Tebow’s high school attack (<—bad choice of games).
RoyalFlush - February 1, 2012
I've only been to 1 Chiefs game, so I guess I'll list that
Last December, went to the Seahawks asskicking, ironically Matt Cassel’s best game as a Chief. Ironic since it was myself H2E and Arrowdread at the game, who are probably 3 of his biggest “supporters”.
Super rad trip, fun game, and we apparently are responsible for him getting an apendectomy because of some cosmic payback for being such assholes at the game (or so the Season ticket holder told H2E in an irrate answering machine message).
Good times.

1999 vs the Broncos at Mile High
My wife got me tix to a Chiefs/ Donks game for my birthday. This was the first pro game that I ever attended. The game was late December and it was freezing out. The day before the game I came down with the flu. I don’t remember the drive to the stadium or the drive home because I passed out, but I’ll never forget the game. It was a defensive battle and a bit of snoozer on the scoreboard. The Chiefs were down going into the 4th. The donks kick the ball to Tamarick Vanover and he takes it to the house. The Chiefs hold on for the win. I’m surrounded by Bronco fans up in the nosebleeds of old Mile HIgh who are not very happy. There was a rowdy Chiefs fan a few rows down that was throwing gas on the fire even more. As sick as I was, I was in no shape to defend myself so I didn’t know if I’d make it out alive. Needless to say, I survived and it was a memorable game for me. It was my first game ever, the broncos lost, and I got the pleasure of seeing Derrick Thomas play before he died.

River Falls 1999
I was 12 years old. My mom (who taught me to be a Chiefs fan) and I had positioned ourselves to intercept as many Chiefs as we could as they were on their way to a team meeting. The hour hit, and we began to head back to our hotel, as the UWRF campus seemed dead, and all players were, presumably, already in the meeting room.
As we began to walk, a figure talking on a cell phone came strolling over the hill. At age 12, I immediately recognized my personal superhero: Derrick Thomas. I had three of his cards on my person.
We rushed up to him – it was quickly obvious that he was only pretending to talk on his cell phone. Equally obvious was his hurry (you wouldn’t want to be late to a Gunther Cunningham meeting either). Even so, he couldn’t help but smile as my mother and I ran up to him, begging for an autograph. He resisted at first, smiling and laughing as he did. As if he knew from the get-go that he would sign my card, but wanted to play the game anyway. “Derrick, please! He’s a kid! Derrick, he’s a kid!” my Mom prodded. Of course he relented. And we let him on his way.
At age 12, my personal hero – Derrick Thomas – gave me his autograph.

the old man takes me out to arrowhead to see the stadium and as we are walking around arrowhead, we run into a chiefs coach named tom pagna, who procedes to let us go inside and down to the stadium floor. I got to go to the field, and where the old arrowhead logo use to be at mid field, I got to run from the 50 yard line to the end zone. After that tom pagna invites me and my dad into the chiefs locker room to see it and all the chiefs jerseys hung up ready for sundays game againest the raiders. It was unbelieveable to see the locker room and go down and run on the field. As we are leaving the locker room tom pagna reaches over and hands me an authetic chiefs helmet from 1978 to keep. That helmet sits on top of my tv to this very day. Never forget this one.
niageriannit1 - February 1, 2012
Wow, well, there are so many memories that have shaped my fanhood it's hard to decide.
My first and only Arrowhead experience in 2006 for Raiders week where we won by four on a last minute Jarred Page interception; seeing Tamarick Vanover return a punt in OT against the Chargers on MNF in 1995. So many experiences.
But the one that really sticks out to me is getting an email from Scott Pioli two years ago after posting on here about my then gf (now wife) and her battle with a brain tumor. It’s one thing to be a fan of a football team, and to pull for those 53 guys on the field every Sunday. But it’s another thing to know that that same football team is a fan of you and is pulling for you as much as you are for them. I feel that way with this team. Whether its the players and the acts of service they do in the community from charities to donating their time to help during periods of disaster, or whether its guys from the front office taking time out of their busy days to contact some lowly blog poster who hasn’t even lived within a day’s drive of Arrowhead Stadium in the last two decades, or whether its the fellow bloggers who you may disagree with at times on certain issues but are there to offer words of encouragement at needed times and who you know at the end of the day that you can consider a guy in Canada, Colorado, or Columbia, MO your friend without having ever met him. This is what being a Chiefs fan is about for me. It’s when pulling for a team of millionaires actually makes your life a million times richer in ways that transcend money.
So I guess my real greatest Chiefs memory of all time is discovering AP and all of you with it.

Meeting a Pair of Legends
I met Derrick Thomas and Neil Smith in an Omaha-area sporting goods store. I was 9 or 10 at the time, and I’ll never forget how nervous I was standing in line with my parents to meet them. I remember thinking, as I approached the table where they sat side-by-side, how much Neil Smith looked like Sinbad in person. I could only nod numbly when Neil asked, “Hey man, how are you doing today?” as he signed my card (a 1990 Score card of #90 taking down Dan Marino). When I got to DT, he took my card and leaned forward to whisper, "Did you know this is my favorite card? Man, I was so full of pride at that moment. I still have the card, of course. It’s a 1991 Pro Line card with a shirtless DT looking down at the photographer. I still can’t believe he’s gone when I look at that signature. Those were my first Chiefs teams, and they’ll hold a place in my heart forever.

my wife and I sat there in the rain
the whole time. That was a great memory too. I agree with that feeling that the Chiefs were going to win that night.
fongKC - February 1, 2012
Hard to describe the feeling of that night
You just couldn’t tear yourself away from it for fear you’d miss something or let the team down. There were 11 men on the field playing defense that just kept standing and standing against Rivers and the Chargers. 80,000 in the stands that were hanging on every snap of the ball. Afterwards I was emotionally and physically drained, but too pumped up on adrenaline to sleep. Ordered season tickets the next day.
Chief Willie Wildcat - February 1, 2012
Ditto!
I was freezing but we refused to give in and take cover. “Bring it on!!” we kept yelling. Either to the bolts or the rain, it didn’t matter. Pulled in my driveway at 5:30 the next morning. My wallet took 3 days to dry. I have goosebumps remembering it now. Wow!
Wichita Chief - February 1, 2012
my most vivid Chiefs memory
is of the game vs the Giants after 9/11.
I was out in NYC on 9/11 for work, and watched the towers fall from the Newport Center in Jersey City. I didn’t get home until that Friday (and after days of not knowing HOW I was going to get home) and then they didn’t have football that weekend. Well I had tickets to the Chiefs game and ended up going the following week. It was just such an emotional game for me and for everyone there. I remember a fireman’s boot being passed around for donations, the applause for NY. Was a great day and a great memory!

Simple:
First training camp at Missouri Western. Stayed after practice for autographs. Low and behold, Brian Waters grabs my football, suddenly drops it, and my jackass friend says, “That’s why you’re a lineman, Brian.”
Brian no happy. Brian Waters almost ate my friend.

He should've pancaked your friend and said
“no, that’s why I’m a lineman.”

He damn near did.

Andre Rison burns a safety ... and the Raiders' house on MNF!!!
I hate the Raiders. Although some might say it’s innate, my revulsion of the Raiders really began in the days of Martyball and Christian Okoye — Faiders were always contenders even though we dominated them during that period. As the decade progressed, revulsion became enmity, highlighted during a classic MNF matchup in Oakland in 1997 that I had the pleasure to attend.
My favorite Chiefs memory: Grbac dropped a 32-yard bomb into Andre Rison’s bread basket and the Chiefs “burnt Al Davis’ house down” with 3 secs left. Ignoring my safety, I leapt up and down, screamed for joy, and then ran out of the Coliseum ducking and dodging beer cans (and worse). GO CHIEFS!

One of my best memories, staying up late to watch it with Old Man Thorman.

Short and sweet...
My very first game I ever went to was in 03 against the Bears. I was 14 and I got to see my hero and still favorite Chief Priest Holmes get the single-season TD record.

This was the playoff game against the Colts. I was 24 at the time, and I went with my Dad, his best friends, my brother and his wife. I remember listening to the pregame while we were tailgating, and someone with insightful information claimed that they thought whoever scored the most points would win the game. We were down 31-17 late in the 3rd quarter.
I was sitting in section 345, row 13. I was on the visiting side at about the
40 yard line. The Colts kicker kicked off to Dante Hall, “The X Factor”. He got the ball at the 8 yard line.
He faked right, then juked left, and ran by five guys (no pun) and ran towards the right side and outran the rest of the Colts to make the game within a touchdown. I was screaming so loud, and I had tingled down my spine.
I have not been to every Chiefs game, but I have been to about 30 games in my lifetime (very thankful), and I will tell you that when Dante Hall returned that kick it was “by far” the loudest that I have ever heard Arrowhead Stadium. I was so excited, and I thought for sure that we were going to win this game and it is so awesome to be a Chiefs fan right now.
That is my greatest Chiefs related moment of all-time. It was followed by my second on the next Colts possession. Petting was driving (as usual that day), but then he threw a deep pass that was intercepted (by Eric Warfield IIRC).
On the next drive, Priest Holmes broke off a long run, got stripped by David Macklin, and broke my heart.

that play hurt so bad...
Like Johnnie Morton on third down.

The drive home afterwards was in complete silence with four people in the car. It was one of the lower moments that I can remember as a fan.

Greates performance i've ever seen
November 11, 1990, DT destroyed Dave Krieg that day seven times. It was one of the most memorable performances by a Chiefs player and truly solidified my love for the Chiefs and Derrick Thomas “Greatest of all time”

MNF Montana vs Elway 1984
Best MNF game I’ve ever seen. Montana hits Willie Davis in the end zone with 5 seconds left to beat the Donkeys at their place. That was sweet!!

When Joe Montana first came to town
we played the 49ers at home. Aside from Arrowhead being louder than I can ever remember, we were in the redzone and driving. Out of nowhere Montana rolls out and runs the option! Possibly slower than Tom Brady, but there he went!
Same game that DT passed out due to heat exhaustion… I think they said it was about 120degrees on that asphalt… astro-turf…

Place: Arrowhead
Opponent: Division rival San Diego
From their own 1/2 yard line Treen Green takes the snap, he play action fakes and steps back into the endzone, seeing his man he steps up, gets a key safety saving block from Omar Easy and airs it out. At the 40 yard line, rookie gazelle Marc Boerigter is behind the Chargers secondary and catches a perfectly thrown ball in stride. Off to the races 59 more yards as Rogers Beckett can’t close on the deceivingly fleet of foot Boerigter who scores an incredible 99 yard TD reception to etch his name in the record books.

Chiefs vs. Raiders - November 6th, 2005
It was a classic match up between to storied franchises. KC took an early lead with the likes of Larry Johnson leading the way. The defense was terrorizing Kerry Collins and shutting down Randy Moss. However, in classic Chiefs/Raider fashion the Raiders stormed back with capping it all off with Moss’s only catch of the day…a touchdown that put them up by three. With about 50 seconds left the Chiefs marched down the field, slowly at first but thinks to a quick pass to a wide open LJ from Green, Larry was able to explode down the middle…only to be stopped at 1 yard line with just 4 seconds left, a timeout was called. After the time out I was equally shocked AND excited to see our offense out on the field…Vermeil was going all or nothing in this game. The crowd is all but silent with anticipation, the ball is snapped and LJ flies over the pile and into the endzone. After that…Arrowhead erupted! I was high fiving everyone around me and the whole way out of the stadium, the crowd was doing the tomahawk chant.
I have been to many games…but none have topped the sight or sound of that one. The feeling the excitement I got when LJ scored was mind blowing. FOREVER A CHIEFS FAN!

I was at that game!
Going for the win. Yeah buddy! We don’t need no stinking field goal!
Wichita Chief - February 1, 2012
not exactly my "favorite" moment but, (it's so hard to choose)
During training camp 2010, Eric Berry and Javier Arenas came into my store up in Saint Joseph. Señor Berry wanted some headphones so he could still listen to music at night before bed without disturbing his roommates. He was looking at some ear buds, but then we showed him the Beats Solo headset. He loved them. Always a great day when you can impress someone that you respect.

Oct 21, 1991 Chiefs vs. Raiders.
I watched this on TV. But it doesn’t matter.
I’m 15. It’s my first year being a KC fan. I hadn’t really followed football prior to that year and my friends (at the time) were big fans. So I needed to ‘find’ a team. I wanted big D, big ground em and pound em running attack, and all heart. Well that was the Chiefs to a T. So I start following them. This game is the one that solidified it though. We’re down to the raiders 21 – 10 by the start of the 4th and things aren’t looking good. The Raiders are again marching down our field. They’re at the our 8 yard line I think (inside the 10 for sure) and looking like they’re gonna score, when… Jay Schroeder’s pass is intercepted by Lloyd Burruss and he’s running it back. I’m screaming at the TV. I’m jumping up and down. I’m in awe. What is happening? He makes it all the way to the 15! But then we go 1, 2, 3 plays and can’t score. Oh no. Not again… But we have super tecmo all world Christian Okoye and on 4th and inches he takes it in and scores! 21-17, but there’s not enough time left. It’s just not going to be enough… until… we do get the ball back and deBerg marches us 57 yards down the field to get us within scoring range. Less than a minute on the clock, and he finds Todd McNair for the TD. I was screaming so loud my parents run down stairs thinking the house is on fire. And I"m hooked for life.
Eastcoastransplant - February 1, 2012
Where to begin?
-homemade fireworks with Lamar?
-Tecmo Bowl with Okoye?
-bye-week bong hits with the Chiefs?
-dancing on the field Thanksgiving night?
-KC Wolf showing up at school drunk?
Too many memories. I’ll save the good stories for the Poncho’s promotion cause we all know Ponchos>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Chipotle

First ever Chiefs game:
The infamous no-punt playoff game against the Colts. Most exciting shootout EVER.
Also, the coldest day of my young, 13 year old life.
Sadly, my dad went to the bathroom right as Dante took one to the house. At the ripe, young age of 13, I got to rub that in his face for a while.
Also one of the few positive memories I have with my dad, so it’s an epic one to have.

My firstChief game
7pm central time! I’m a little further west and I just got home. I’ll throw my story on anyway. My best friends Rudy (Raider fan) and Roland (Chief fan) asked me if I (Chief fan) wanted to fly to KC with their dad (Raider fan) to go to the Chief-Raider game. I scraped together my paper route money and went. The game was great, the Chiefs won handily. The interesting part was that we stayed in the same hotel as the 1969 Chief super bowl team that was honered at halftime. Meeting Len Dawson, chatting with Jan Stenerud on the elevator, rubbing shoulders with lots of Chiefs. Talk about shock and awe. On Saturday night My friends’ dad told us to come with him. We rode up the elevator and somehow managed to get into a pre-game party with all the 69 Chiefs! There was a big table full of memorabilia we were looking at. Suddenly my friends’ dad being quite brash (and possibly well lubricated) picked up a Len Dawson game ball and was casually tossing it up and catching it. He hollered at Len “Hey Lenny, how much you want for this thing?” Lenny the Cool politely responded that it was not for sale. Needless to say, we were soon escorted back to the elevator. So my favorite memory is also on of my more embarassing ones. What a great trip…

Damn, west coast time hurt you
Because this story would’ve been in the running. That’s awesome. Would’ve been cool to see what a party like that would be like with those Chiefs compared to modern day guys.
Joel Thorman - February 1, 2012
Thanks Joel
Mountain time, actually. Chief fan in donkey land…
As I remember, the party was subdued by todays standards. I would call it a cocktail party. Unfortunately, thanks to Mr Fettig, we weren’t there long enough to see if it got any wilder. Oh well, at least he had the audacity to get us in there in the first place!
OT89 - February 2, 2012
I know there's already been a winner
But I’ll say mine is this:
Been to many games, but that was the first and only with the Pops.
And it happened to be the win over Green Bay.

Here's my real one - Winter of 1986
I was 8 years old, and skiing in Utah. My dad and I went for the infamous “last run of the day,” and as we came around a bend, I crashed and broke my leg, cutting the family trip short. After a scary Lou Ferrigno-doppelganger casted my leg, my parents got us on a standby flight back to KC. I was sitting in a seat next to a really nice man who struck up a conversation with me about skiing and my broken leg. He told me he had broken his leg once in a really bad ski jumping accident, but that it healed up great, so I shouldn’t worry. Then he signed my cast. After we got off the plane, my dad said, “Do you know who that was?” and of course I didn’t. He said, “That was Jan Stenerud, the greatest kicker to ever play.” So when he said his leg healed up just fine, he wasn’t kidding.
