Last week Bill Muir informed the Kansas City Chiefs that he was retiring which opened up a hole at offensive line coach on the Chiefs 2012 coaching staff. Until now, we hadn't heard of any candidates for the job.
Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger reports that New York Giants assistant coach Jack Bicknell Jr. talked with the Chiefs earlier this week about the offensive line coaching position. Currently, Bicknell Jr. is the Giants assistant offensive line coach behind Pat Flaherty.
The last name Bicknell sounds familiar, and it should. Jack is the brother of Bob Bicknell, who was previously an assistant coach with the Chiefs (and currently on Chan Gailey's staff in Buffalo).
The Chiefs have positions to fill at offensive line and assistant offensive line. Romeo Crennel indicated this week he knows what he wants to do at receivers coach so the offensive line might be the only position remaining that's still open.

They win the superbowl
everyone wants their coaches! I like it!

^ What he said .....
Zulu Trader - February 10, 2012
The Giants offensive line wasn't very good this year
Granted that entire line is pretty ancient
ChiefWarPaint - February 10, 2012
Bicknell's a pretty good coach...he was at LA Tech for awhile, had some success.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him in KC. Actually, I like that our staff is mostly good, young to middle-aged coaches—might make it easier to connect with the players.
We NEED a teacher as a line coach, not a scheme guy or a yeller, that’s for sure. Someone who focuses on technique and getting each play correct the first time.
go_saleaumua - February 10, 2012
I digress to CWP's point
They weren’t very good this year. The NYG OL is (if I’m not completely mistaken) notorious for huge chunks of play (games upon games) during the season that is uninspired and ineffective. Might as well continue in the string of lackluster hires.
I hope I turn out to look like a fool because I hate these hires/prospective hires, but thus far I am not at all impressed.

UHHhhh....Other than handing them their asses...What's the Patriot Connection?...
KCChef - February 10, 2012
Pioli to Parcells to Coughlin.
Coughlin was Parcells’ recievers coach in the 80’s…also the Boston College connection between the Bicknell coaching family (former BC coach Jack and both his sons) and former BC coach Tom Coughlin…

Here a vid of him
No idea what he’s talking about. At work…no sound :(

Interesting
If what he says is true, he is apart of offensive playcalling and his specialty was goal line situations and the different defenses the Giants would face.
Me likey.
ChiefWarPaint - February 10, 2012
Successful college coach, recruiter...so he can connect with people too, and get concepts communicated.
Worst part about our line in ‘11 was the way that some guys (tackles, TE’s) blocked for one thing and the interior guys and/or FB/TE blocked for another. Maybe I was just over-analyzing what I saw, but it seemed like the basic concepts of what our O was trying to achieve, got lost in the shuffle.
Pat Perles is a fine husband and father, I’m sure…but he didn’t get shit done with our guys upfront when he had the chance. (Some of that is due to Weigs turning 103 during the season, but STILL).
go_saleaumua - February 10, 2012
Sounded good to me
Idk if he called goal line plays, but he was responsible for the goal line game planning. I also like the fact that he has had previous head coaching experience at Louisiana Tech. He had a good track record up until his 3-10 season in 2006; which lead to him being fired. Out side of that he seems like a solid pick up. Hope we can make it official.

Now, recievers coach: Please tell me it's someone who doesn't suck.
Promoting Sirianni might be smart, might be stupid. Who here suspects that’s the route we’re going on?
/raises hand
go_saleaumua - February 10, 2012
I would be surprised if it isn't Sirianni
And the kid was Haley’s bitch so he’s probably earned it.
GenericBrand - February 10, 2012
If Todd taught him a thing or two about coaching recievers, I'm for it. But did he?
…..would still like to see someone else there (Karl Dorrell, Steve Bush from MIA…maybe a college coach, like one of the WR coaches from OK State for example).
Ehh, who knows. Maybe I’m wrong and Siranni is a “secret weapon” on this coaching staff. Not like I’m with the team every day to see it.
go_saleaumua - February 10, 2012
I have no idea if this is true or I read it wrong
But Sirianni either worked with the receivers or used to be one. Or both.
GenericBrand - February 10, 2012
And just when I thought everyone had a wiki page
Mr. Sirianni does not.
GenericBrand - February 10, 2012
Maybe he was spying on Haley
that’s why you couldn’t find it
KingChief - February 10, 2012
Both, actually.
He worked with receivers in ’10, quarterbacks in ’09, defensive backs and receivers at the college level, and was a wide receiver at Mount Union.
“Prior to joining the Crimson Hawks, Sirianni spent two seasons as the defensive backs coach at Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio. He helped the Purple Raiders win the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2005.
Sirianni was a three-year starter as a wide receiver at Mount Union. He was part of the Purple Raiders squad that claimed back-to-back NCAA Division III National Championships in 2001-02. He concluded his collegiate career with 68 receptions for 1,332 yards with 17 touchdowns. He earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors as a senior after posting a career-high 13 TD catches."

Youknow...If you Choke a Raider Fan long enough...They become Purple Raiders too...
KCChef - February 10, 2012
Had to rec this comment - entirely awesome!
WorL4Chiefs - February 10, 2012
That's who I've been saying
since Josh Looney let out that he’s a possible candidate, due to working with the receivers last year. That and RAC saying he already has someone in mind.
Tarkus - February 10, 2012
In that case, I voluntarily apply to be the new quality control coach.
All those people trusting me with their retirement planning? Well…“I’m not going to be the Kansas City QC coach.” So there.
/dusts off resume, face paint, & red and gold tie
go_saleaumua - February 10, 2012
Same here
When I heard Looney throw it out there I thought it was a good idea.
O.C.ChiefsFan - February 10, 2012
My gut says either Sirianni
or find the worst NFL passing offense and KC will snag THEIR WR coach cause he knows a guy, who knows a guy, who roomed with a guy, who spent time in prison with a guy who banged a close relative of Pioli’s wife.
SCKSChief - February 11, 2012
I just want a coach who will teach our line to be physical.
That’s how Houston’s, Oakland’s, Chicago’s and Cincinnati’s O-lines have succeeded despite the lack of actual talent.
NigerianNightmare - February 10, 2012
I wouldn't call the Bears OL successful
They we pretty awful
KCinIL - February 10, 2012
neither would Jay Cutler
upamtn - February 10, 2012
They did lead a fairly effective running game, however.
Their offense is a run-based, hard-nosed offense and assembled a line accordingly.
NigerianNightmare - February 11, 2012
just hire a good coach please. one who will be around through crennel's entire run here. please.
SDChief - February 10, 2012
Which is what...
5 years max? :(
Brad-KC - February 10, 2012
That's enough time for Rome to get us a SB or 2
KingChief - February 10, 2012
How's bout a playoff win?
NJChieffan16 - February 10, 2012
Not interested.
We’re going to win so many damn games we get byes all the way to the big one.
joplin chiefs fan - February 10, 2012
Wow, we're uber optimistic today
Why not just get a bye FOR the big one while you’re at it.
SCKSChief - February 11, 2012
Baby steps.
ExRoyalsFan - February 10, 2012
Are we switching to a man blocking scheme?
I don’t think Lilja or Hudson could fit in that system.
Crown Chief - February 10, 2012
Lilja is looking like the odd man out.
Maybe he and Richardson can open a business together.
ExRoyalsFan - February 10, 2012
Judging by Bicknell Jr's playing career, I say he shoul be a good coach
He started in the 1985 Cotton Bowl Classic and played in the 1982 Tangerine Bowl. He was the starting center BC’s 1984 defeat over Miami and snapped the ball during the famous Hail Flutie play. As a senior at BC, Bicknell received the Scanlan Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a BC football player.
Matt_Grbac - February 10, 2012 via mobile
Mike Singletary would like to talk with you
ExRoyalsFan - February 10, 2012
ha!
I get what you are saying.
But as a positional coach…yeah. I think Bicknell could be a good oline coach….just like Singletary could be a great defensive positional coach.
Matt_Grbac - February 10, 2012
He did a lot of work as a LB coach for Baltimore
Ray Lewis= DJ
KCinAZ - February 10, 2012
Looks like a decent candidate
now if he just brings in Will Shields as an assistant all will be great…at least in my opinion.
Chief Willie Wildcat - February 10, 2012
I'd rather just bring in Shields as the coach
He wants to get into coaching, runs o-line camps and has been interning. He would be a perfect candidate as an o-line coach for us, who else would be better? The guy knows what it takes to be great, and has plenty of knowledge to share.
ChiefDailyBaked - February 10, 2012
Need a OL too
WHO ever we get as coach, need to upgrade the OL for him to coach. Not a whole lot for him to work with what we have now.
