A few points of interest on the
Kansas City Chiefs 2012 coaching staff that was just announcing, starting with Romeo Crennel's quote:
"We were able to add a handful of strong additions to an already talented group of coaches, and I am excited to get started," said Crennel. "I am looking forward to sitting down as a staff, evaluating what we have, what we need, and moving forward towards the 2012 season."
And a bunch of short observations of the Chiefs new staff...

The Chiefs did not retain three coaches: Pat Perles (assistant offensive line), Richie Anderson (receivers) and Steve Hoffman (special teams).
One Chiefs coach retired: Bill Muir (offensive coordinator/offensive line).
The Chiefs hired five new coaches: Brian Daboll (offensive coordinator), Jack Bicknell Jr. (offensive line), Jim Bob Cooter (offensive quality control), Tom McMahon (special teams) and Derius Swinton (special teams quality control).
One coach received a promotion: Nick Sirianni went from offensive quality control to receivers coach.
Romeo Crennel is the defensive coordinator in name, too. We were wondering at one point if Crennel would have a defensive coordinator in name, even though we knew he'd really be running the defense.
Jim Zorn is returning. There was talk that Zorn could be leaving the Chiefs if he didn't get the offensive coordinator job -- he didn't -- but that's apparently not the case. Zorn is listed among the returning Chiefs coaches. The team reportedly denied him an opportunity to interview for a lateral move with the
Chicago Bears.
Emmitt Thomas is also returning. There were some brief rumors that he was in play for the
Raiders defensive coordinator job but he's sticking around, which is a good thing in my opinion.
Google isn't Jim Bob Cooter's friend. When your team hires a new coach, you Google him to see what he's about.
Do that with Jim Bob Cooter and you can see more questions are raised than answers.
Another thing I've seen popping up from fans: Jim Bob Cooter was with the Colts.
Peyton Manning was with the Colts. Thus, Peyton Manning is coming to the Chiefs. Hey, if it means Manning will be a Chief, I'm not gonna point out the faulty logic with that.
Overall
I’m alright with this staff.
My number one concerns were retaining Crennel as the HC/DC, making little to no changes to the defensive coaching staff, and making some drastic changes on the offensive level.
I’m ok with the Daboll hire, but don’t like the Bicknell hire. Bicknell’s OL work for NYG leaves something to be desired. The Jim Bob hire is freaking hilarious. Jim Bob Cooter, the Tennessee legend who in 2006 was busted on a DUI with an underage girl and an open container, then in 2009 was caught climbing into an apartment window and climbing in bed with a random woman. Welcome to KC, a classy, classy city Mr. Cooter.
I’m good with the Sirianni promotion. I also like the McMahon hire. Overall, the coaching changes are acceptable. Daboll has a lot to prove, but I like his self proclaimed aggressive approach. We need an attack instinct on this O.
Now, bring on Free Agency.
Tomahawk29 - February 14, 2012
I'm okay with Daboll cause I think he has something to prove coming over from a crappy Dolphins offense.....
That said, he was working with Matt Moore at QB in Miami and I’m not sure Matt Cassel is much of an upgrade.
BigRedChief - February 14, 2012
All this over a little Cooter?
BigRedChief - February 14, 2012
I guess cooter wasn't satisfied with digits to start, went all in
niageriannit1 - February 14, 2012
I would find it difficult
as a player to take a guy named Jim Bob Cooter (Coach Cooter) serious anyway. I wouldn’t hire him just because of his name.
griffey2 - February 14, 2012
thats like Dick Trickle or something
tomachop - February 14, 2012
nascar car guy drove the miller high life car

Coaches have stupid nicknames all the time that the players give them...
that would be a horrible reason not to hire someone.
You base it off ability, not what there name is. It’s football, there is plenty of room for Jim Bob’s in football. You might not hire him as CEO or elect him as President, but he can coach your football team in a grunt role.
Come on man.
Chief-blinders-on - February 14, 2012
Is that you, Tristan?
Brsrkr - February 14, 2012
At least his name isn't Harry Cooter.
Tomahawk29 - February 14, 2012
RAC is most definitely the highlight of the staff.
He is like the commander with tons of combat experience. What does every successful commender need? They need a few great officers to carry the message and keep the ship afloat. I’m looking at you Derrick Johnson and Eric Berry.
fishhooks - February 14, 2012
So Manning might be chasing Cooter to KC?
Tarkus - February 14, 2012
KC Cooter > Indy Cooter
BigRedChief - February 14, 2012
Where's Todd Haley
Under the “not retained” list?
NJChieffan16 - February 14, 2012 via mobile
Who?
BigRedChief - February 14, 2012
That's a much older list.
Tarkus - February 14, 2012
tell me if my theory is crazy or not
the chiefs are waiting for the peyton manning situation to get resolved, which looks like he is going to be released and available , before they resign any free agent and spend big money.
niageriannit1 - February 14, 2012
Your theory
has been proclaimed for going on 3 weeks now.
Chief Willie Wildcat - February 14, 2012
yeah but what do u think
niageriannit1 - February 14, 2012
The Chiefs should have absolutely NO interest in Manning
Dagda - February 14, 2012
but I should have read more before I commented
my apologies. The Chiefs have nearly $63 million in cap space including what they carried over from 2011. There should be NO issues with signing Carr and Bowe before they know what’s going on with Manning.
Chief Willie Wildcat - February 14, 2012
I think we'll know what's going on with Manning about five days before anybody can sign, right?
Brsrkr - February 14, 2012
Bowe and Carr can sign any time.
Tarkus - February 14, 2012
This fact seems to not be understood by everyone...
(not saying you, Brsrkr)

NJChieffan16 - February 14, 2012 via mobile
With a rap sheet like Cooter's... shouldn't he be an assistant for the Raiders?
BigRedChief - February 14, 2012
At least playing for them...
Wait does he own a gun or an Escalade?
KSU-Chief - February 14, 2012
With a name like Jim Bob Cooter
I think it’s safe to assume he owns several guns.
workingmansdead - February 14, 2012

LadyChief - February 14, 2012
