Here's what I think they might be doing. Sign Routt, sign bowe, franchise Carr and either keep him for top money (which he nearly deserves) or trade Carr. Teams around the league know Carr is #1 talent so we would get high value. What do you guys think?
That's what I would do

I think Pioli is looking at options, as he should
my favorite “scenario” is where he re-signs Carr for the same money Flowers is getting, and then re-signs Bowe for a goodly sum as well … then no more nonsense about signing Routt, he’s not nearly as good as Carr
upamtn - February 15, 2012
agreed
They let Routt leave town without a deal, likely means he’ll sign elsewhere and set the value for Carr’s new deal in KC
stagdsp - February 15, 2012 via mobile
which in my mind should be the same money as Flowers is getting ...
upamtn - February 15, 2012
routt had a rough year as the #1 CB in a bad system
but i don’t think there’s much credibility to saying he’s not nearly as good as Carr: http://i.imgur.com/tRoO0.png
the biggest knock against him is that he’s three years older, which isn’t a deal-breaker.
shaytron - February 16, 2012
If we are letting Carr leave, I believe that there are better options as a #2 CB then Routt. I would gladly take one of the former Giants, Aaron Ross, or Terrell Thomas over Routt. Probably Tracy Porter too.
Topchief1 - February 15, 2012
Could help us get RG3..
chiefFANatic - February 15, 2012 via mobile
Doesn't "free agent"
mean that trading Carr isn’t an option for Pioli? I’d say vetting out Routt is his way of deciding how bad he f’d up last summer by not giving Carr a contract.
JaySoy - February 15, 2012
They would have to tag and trade him.
chiefFANatic - February 15, 2012 via mobile
The question is..
If we franchise carr and traded him for some draft picks this year, do you think we could get more value? Because I think so. Trade Carr for a 2nd and 3rd and a 5th. I could see that being done.
YerganFlurgan - February 15, 2012 via mobile
No wonder Carr wants so much money, he must read AP
No one is trading a 2nd, 3rd, and a 5th for Carr…. Maybe a late 1st or a 2nd or a 3 or 4th, but not multple picks in the first 4 rounds
Chiefs_KC - February 15, 2012
Idk bout that. He’s considered the best unrestricted CB in free agency and you know how the media can inflate prices. Maybe more like a 2 and a 4 tho
YerganFlurgan - February 15, 2012 via mobile
Question: Can Bowe be franchise tagged and Carr tendered at a 1st rd if someone signs him to an offer sheet?
or is the 1st rd tender only available to RFA, and not UFA?
Chiefs_KC - February 15, 2012
UFA means just that, unrestricted.
When free agency hits, if Carr isn’t tagged or signed to a new deal, he has nothing tying him to the team.
scottbwalters - February 15, 2012
Routt, Flowers, Berry, and franchised Carr is to much money for the secondary
when we have glaring holes in other places (NT, O-Line, D-Line) and need upgrades or depth everywhere.
Fozzyboyd - February 15, 2012
exactly. last year the offence couldn't move the ball so the d was always on the field.
Chiefs_KC - February 15, 2012
Disagree.
We have so much cap space, I have no problem making the secondary a priority. Its the anchor of our soon to be dominant defense. Its what gives Hali/Houston the time to get to the passer. I think signing Carr is absolutely paramount.
scottbwalters - February 15, 2012
We do have a lot of cap space but we have glaring holes in other spots and need depth everywhere
We need a real NT in a bad, bad, bad, did I mention bad way. We also need 2 new starters on our O-Line and some depth there. I can dream of a big QB but it will never happen. We need a 2nd RB to go with Charles and a 2nd TE to go with Moeaki in case he gets hurt again. We also need depth on d-line and possibly another inside LB. Also, as we showed last year we have little to no depth at safety or CB. So I am good with getting another corner but would prefer to spend that money on a good NT or RT.
Fozzyboyd - February 15, 2012
I have to disagree here. If we were tight on cap space, I might agree. But our depth in the secondary was an obvious weakness last year after Berry was lost. What happens if we lose Flowers or carr for the season. I don’t think there is enough quality depth with our secondary, which means we have the spending room to improve that…in my opinion.
swmochiefan - February 16, 2012
Sign Carr at all costs this guy is a cornerstone piece for our defense
