Three years ago this month we did our very first approval poll on Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt. And in those 36 months, his approval numbers have never been as low as they were in January 2012 --34 percent.
The Chiefs owner made an appearance on radio row at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis in the week leading up to the Super Bowl (technically February) and talked about the Chiefs salary cap, free agency situation and the end of the 2011 season.
Go ahead and vote in our poll. Do you approve of the job the Chiefs owner is doing?
Me either. 1st time I've not voted my approval of Clark, but...
I think he is a big part of the issue with the problems inside the organization with this whole micro-management, bean-counter picayune nonsense we’ve seen since Lamar died. I cannot believe 20 year employees of the team are actually filing lawsuits about how they’ve been treated by mgmt. You know Lamar is rolling over in his grave at the sound of that. Add in the fact they’ve created a huge amount of cap space and now are apparently balking at paying Carr what he has EARNED on the field of battle for OUR team. Infuriating!
I will be livid if we lose Carr over money… and I may well quit the team (and the NFL) entirely if they lose him because he felt he was disrespected by the way the team has handled all of this. This is no small thing – I’ve loved this team since I was in grade school at St. Elizabeth’s in Waldo back in the 60’s
But losing Carr that way, on top of how the team mishandled Jared Allen, and they way they kept LJ two years past the time anybody could stand a whiff of him… I’m losing respect for what the team STANDS for, and I’m not the only person who loves the Chiefs who feels this way.
Until Clark & Pioli understand the middle-class, blue collar moral fabric ethos of the teams fan base, there is no chance he can build a team we can be proud of. Chiefs fans expect our team to be winners in life as well as on the field. And off the field is where the team is failing most abysmally now. And it’s NOT the players who are failing us – it’s the moral fabric of our mgmt team being willing to overlook the nonsense of LJ while turning a blind eye to the real accomplishments of Carr.
I want us to win on all fronts and I want to be told the truth. If the team was sincere about building a long term winning tradition based on the draft – like they have told us time and time again, then not signing Carr is evidence we’re being lied to by the team. How can you buy season tickets from an organization that lies to you?
If we lose Bowe, I have much less problem with that as he has never really convinced me that he’s bought into the whole program here from his heart. All he has done is realize he was going to be cut and out of the league if he didn’t address his work ethic and shooting his mouth off to the media. And those two things are true no matter where he plays. But losing him is not the same as losing Carr who has been a model citizen on and off the field since day 1. Carr has earned his money with his play on the field. If the team doesn’t pay him now then we will know they have lied to us.
They have a real chance here with Carr to show us they MEAN WHAT THEY SAY. I hope they do.
Clark’s team lost three of their top players and had the same winning percentage as the Royals who had a relatively good year. The Chiefs are in so much better shape than the Royals that I can’t even fathom an an argument you could use to say Glass is a better owner.
Royals have pumped man loo tinto their farm team and international scouting
and if you haven’t heard, have what everyone agrees is BY FAR the farm system and are in a prime position to compete for years to come in a sport without a salary cap.
I’m not a Royals fan at all, but if you arent’ going to compete for big dollar FA’s like the Yanks, Sox, or Phils, it has to be through a good farm system, and from everything I’ve said, the Royals have one of the best farms in baseball. That appears to be what my Jays are doing too.
Greinke didnt want to be in KC anymore. so instead of waiting another year and losin him to free agency, they traded him picked up almost all of the Brewers top prospects. It has def worked out in KC favor
the Royals dont go out and get high $ FA, they instead build their team thru the draft where they dont have to pay the players top $, and Glass is a good owner?
the Chiefs dont go out and get high $ FA, they also are building their team thru the draft where they dont have to pay the players top $, and Clark is a cheap ass, worst owner in pro sports?
Why are the Brewers able to spend 2.5 times as much as us when they play in a smaller market? The Indians play in a similar sized market, have to compete with the NFL and NBA, and still spend more than the Royals. Compared to their peers, Clark is doing so much better.
they aren’t allowed to do that anymore with the new agreement and yet they didn’t bother to spend any money in FA.
I’m not saying they should have, but since DM took over every year we hear that the Royals are saving the money and will spend it in the future. With all the money they supposedly have been saving, the Royals should be able to have a $150 million roster for 2 or 3 years.
The Royals will probably have the lowest payroll once again this year and can’t spend any of that money in international signings or the draft.
Worst. Owner. In. The. Nationalfootballeaguejimbobcooter.
You think Chief fans aren’t that high on helmet-head, it’s nothing like Skins fans hatred of ol’ Danny boy….only 2 options for his poll, “no” and “run into an AIDS tree and die slow”
winning to make biz better is not what you want in an owner. I’m not saying i’d rather have jerry jones or al davis type as owner, but these guys want to win to win, not win because it will make them more money.
1. Very few people succeed without their parents help, whether it is by paying for their private school, tutors, paying for their expensive colleges, or whatever else. I’m sure even you received some help from your parents, it’s just that his father was able to help him a bit more.
2. Meh… can’t really blame him for that. Just about everyone wanted him.
3. You don’t know him personally so you can’t say if he is a good or bad person.
i think clark needs to open the crow bar to his wallett this year. 63 mil to spend
i understand holding back in the herm rebuild years, but that is over with, the chiefs will be in a nice run for 5 to 10 years if they spend some dough in FA
and even just pretends like he wants a competitive team. I will not approve. He says some of the right things but his actions speak so much louder. This team needs a QB and quality depth at every position. As much as I think Dan Snyder is a shitty owner, at least he tries to win. He’s doing it all wrong but no one can question that he tries to put together a good team. Clark Hunt doesn’t even try.
Never said to waste the money or flush it down the drain

still need to do 2 more, plus how many holes have we had that haven’t been addressed? We’ve needed a NT since Pioli got here and only one we signed was a stopgap in Gregg. Going into last year with no legit backup QB was terrible. Going into last year with BRich starting at RT was almost criminal. We need depth at almost every position. Can’t tell me there weren’t FA’s out there that wouldn’t have been upgrades.
Not really, that's front office, I mean more players on the field.
Great that he spent money for a guy to evaluate talent but they haven’t really gone out and signed free agents to fill the many holes we’ve had or depth we’ve needed.
Clark Hunt Approval January 2010 – 82%
Clark Hunt Approval January 2011 – 95%
Clark Hunt Approval January 2012 – 34%
2009 season team spent: 84.5 million; record: 4-12
2010 season team spent: 77.7 million; record 10-6
2011 season team spent: 92 million; record 7-9
please correct my numbers, as I can’t find one place that details what teams spent against the cap (or lack of cap) per year. But based on what I could find, there does not seem to be a correlation between what Clark spends and fan approval, but rather how well the Chiefs perform vs expectations and fan approval.
i know i saw 24 million under somewhere, but i went with 27 million from november just to be “conservative”. Would love to see a site that put up team money spent towards cap per year, but I guess since the NFL doesn’t have to publicize that, it’s hard to get accurate numbers.
Honey, check it out, you got me mesmerized
With your black hair and your fat-ass thighs
Street poetry is my everyday
But yo, I gotta stop when you trot my way
If I was workin at the club you would not pay
Aiyyo, my man phife diggy, he got somthin to say
I say that because he hired the best guy at the time that could do the job.
He has given Pioli the power to do whatever he wants.
Im thinking its Pioli who will not spend the money. He even stated in “War Room” that he is tight with the Hunt’s money and he is proud of that. Like really? I think Pioli is an extreme conservative that also has a “teachers pet” mentallity. He wants to keep his job so he does whatever it takes to save and conserve money.
a couple of months ago, and it was an easy disapproval. now, it feels like a fresh start, i like the calmness and professionalism of romeo and like the fact that the key work Daboll uses for his offense is attack. Haven’t had that mentality since Vermeil.
I think this is a big year for clark and pioli. seems like with some good moves, chiefs could have a great year, so its hard to give a disapproval at this pt.
I'll say one thing for being perceived as Patriots West
our owner certainly doesn’t seem to have the relationship with players that Rober Kraft does. It seems like the Pats love that dude as much or more than Belichick.
I am voting do NOT approve knowing that we, again; have the most money too spend. I will eagerly change my vote IF that money starts being spent aggressively in an attempt to make this a formidable franchise. I guess what I am saying is that I am tired of the perception that we are the Kansas City CHEAPS! Change that perception and you win my respect. I’m not talking spend with reckless abandon like an Al Davis or Dan Snyder. Just a middle ground where we aren’t always appearing in the bottom three of overall team spending.
Not sure untill he shows me he will open his wallet.
Never know how much is Hunt and how much is Pioli, but if we are that far under the cap then there is an issue.

Worth reading.
Tarkus - February 15, 2012
That was a good read (saw it yesterday)
But the Chiefs need to make use of this “asset” that they have. The time to do it would be now. Make some moves. Get serious about making a legit run.
Tomahawk29 - February 15, 2012
Don't they HAVE to spend money to get above the salary floor?
Or is that by 2013?
citadelchief - February 15, 2012
2013
Not sure if that’s the end of league year 2012 or 2013, though. I do remember that they have all year to do it, though.
Tarkus - February 15, 2012
I agree, but they have to do it smartly.
They didn’t get into such a great position by spending just to spend.
Tarkus - February 15, 2012
Yep, look at teams like the raiders, Jets, and Cowboys.
Now they have to cut contracts because they were just spending money for the sake of spending it.

Paul Allen

please correct my numbers, as I can’t find one place that details what teams spent against the cap (or lack of cap) per year. But based on what I could find, there does not seem to be a correlation between what Clark spends and fan approval, but rather how well the Chiefs perform vs expectations and fan approval.
fongKC - February 15, 2012
Right
And I’m pretty sure those numbers are not accurate (if you’re talking about the salary cap). Think the Chiefs ended 2011 around 99 million.
Joel Thorman - February 16, 2012
right on
i know i saw 24 million under somewhere, but i went with 27 million from november just to be “conservative”. Would love to see a site that put up team money spent towards cap per year, but I guess since the NFL doesn’t have to publicize that, it’s hard to get accurate numbers.
fongKC - February 16, 2012
it shows that there are a ton of bandwagon fans

2012 Chiefs Cheerleaders
Chief Willie Wildcat - February 15, 2012
that's a lot of Ashley's
Shanghai_Chiefs - February 15, 2012
I vote not sure
I say that because he hired the best guy at the time that could do the job.
He has given Pioli the power to do whatever he wants.
Im thinking its Pioli who will not spend the money. He even stated in “War Room” that he is tight with the Hunt’s money and he is proud of that. Like really? I think Pioli is an extreme conservative that also has a “teachers pet” mentallity. He wants to keep his job so he does whatever it takes to save and conserve money.
Matt_Grbac - February 15, 2012
Had trouble deciding on this poll
a couple of months ago, and it was an easy disapproval. now, it feels like a fresh start, i like the calmness and professionalism of romeo and like the fact that the key work Daboll uses for his offense is attack. Haven’t had that mentality since Vermeil.
I think this is a big year for clark and pioli. seems like with some good moves, chiefs could have a great year, so its hard to give a disapproval at this pt.
Arrowhead25 - February 15, 2012
BBQ Sauce > Honey Mustard
do not approve
ArrowDread - February 15, 2012
I'll say one thing for being perceived as Patriots West
our owner certainly doesn’t seem to have the relationship with players that Rober Kraft does. It seems like the Pats love that dude as much or more than Belichick.
Chief Willie Wildcat - February 15, 2012
Players loved Vermeil.
He had one playoff game in five years. Love is overrated.
/single
Tarkus - February 15, 2012
Lonely Valentines day?
ArrowDread - February 15, 2012
Pretty much, yeah.
Tarkus - February 15, 2012
I still think we're the same person.
Either we say the same stuff, or you’re saying exactly what I was going to say until I saw that you already said it.

Nice!
LadyChief - February 15, 2012
I was just about to say the same thing!
Tarkus - February 15, 2012
This one is hard to say about.
A lot depends on how things shake out over this off season and who is held accountable during the coming season. For now, unsure.
G.L. - February 15, 2012
Clark Hunt = most boring man in KC
Zero personality. Zero charisma. Bout as exciting as a root canal
ArrowDread - February 15, 2012
root canals always get my attention
man 1 was enough for me, I don’t think I was numbed enough. I was white knuckled the whole time.
tomachop - February 15, 2012
i thought it was the most interesting man in the world
niageriannit1 - February 15, 2012
Lowest rating since the polls started (so far)
independent739 - February 15, 2012
I'm still protesting the lockout.
Not sure when I’ll start voting approve again.
Tarkus - February 15, 2012
Me two...........

LadyChief - February 15, 2012
Some nice FA signings could swing me back.
Even our own.
Tarkus - February 15, 2012
Yep..........
LadyChief - February 15, 2012
Not sure
Guess we’ll find out soon enough with the franchise tags comin up and re-signing or not re-signing our players.
KCinIL - February 15, 2012
I agree with some posters on here!
Jason Drue Keith - February 15, 2012
Wow...RAC flat out dwarfs Hunt & Pioli
Big guy
WorL4Chiefs - February 15, 2012
I voted not sure
If he resigns Bowe, Carr, and upgrades depth at Safety and O-line then he has my approval.
