11. Kansas City Chiefs: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M
Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel will turn 30 just after the 2012 NFL Draft. They could groom Tannehill for a year or two behind Cassel.
The 6-foot-4, 222-pound Tannehill is a good athlete who can make big plays with his feet and has a strong arm. This season, he completed 62 percent of his passes for 3,744 yards with 29 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. The senior also rushed for 355 yards with four touchdowns. Tannehill was inconsistent and is still developing at the position. He played well versus Baylor and Missouri, but struggled against Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas.
Tannehill has only played one full season at quarterback (20 total starts at QB), so he will need time to develop at the pro level. As a wide out in 2008, Tannehill caught 55 passes for 844 yards and five touchdowns. He switched to quarterback in 2010 and played well in the last half of the season as the Aggies' starter. Tannehill completed 65 percent of his passes for 1,638 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions.
Pick change; previously Trent Richardson, RB
that there's funny stuff, it is
stupid but funny :-)

Yay!
I read somewhere that the most consistent way to gauge a QB prospect was by the number of games played/started. Dudes who are 1-year wonders normally wash out of the league, where guys who’ve started 2-3 years normally have a better chance of being good.
Cassel=0 games started., didn’t make this comment to get in a dig at Hat Cassel, just saying he kinda fits the bill here.
severn58 - February 16, 2012
which makes Cassel a "zero year wonder"
IOW … no wonder he hasn’t been very good :-)
upamtn - February 16, 2012
Stanzi started three years
chief Stevie_k - February 17, 2012
Draft him
…and have the converted WR play behind the converted TE.
Pass.
craig in calgary - February 16, 2012
Walter has us all LOL'ing here at AP
ExRoyalsFan - February 16, 2012
Stanzi is better
DangerVaughn - February 16, 2012
Yes indeed!!
BMJ420 - February 16, 2012
Was gonna say this.
chiefFANatic - February 16, 2012 via mobile
one of the dumber picks I've seen
BJ Kissel - February 16, 2012
Tannehill is missing the combine and is injured right now.
If he gets picked before the third round i will be shocked.
PSUkegreen - February 16, 2012
He will
So get your shocked face ready
BAMFSpecialOps - February 16, 2012
Would only be better if . . .
we traded up to get him!!!! (sarcasm)
Dallas Chief - February 16, 2012
I just threw up in my mouth a little
stagdsp - February 16, 2012
I passed a little bit of gas.
Mr.Pibbs - February 16, 2012
I was laughing so hard .....
I thinkj I pee’d a little!
Zulu Trader - February 16, 2012
To be fair to Walter
this isn’t Walter’s mock. Its on his site but it is by Charlie Cambell.
Chief93 - February 16, 2012
Good point. Charlie be DAMNED
ExRoyalsFan - February 16, 2012
I think almost all the mocks are funny ... and wrong
Luck to Colts … ok, then what?
80 bazillion things can happen and not one soul knows just what it will be … this or that COULD happen, that or this MIGHT happen … so-and-so does something really stupid and then nobody has a clue who to draft next because a parakeet flew out of Pioli’s nose
upamtn - February 16, 2012
I'd be fine with it
Hilarious that all the AP babble are screaming over and over and over and over and over again about getting a new QB, then when we do you hate it.
Sounds about right for the Chiefs, oh the irony.
ChiefWarPaint - February 16, 2012
Problem with it is its a hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee reach
BAMFSpecialOps - February 16, 2012
and he's not that good
but, other than that, it’s a solid pick
stagdsp - February 16, 2012
Not at all
QB is a highly coveted position, and Tannehill has the tools but is very raw. They never should have switched him to WR, which has hindered development.
The first round is more then just who can play for me now, its also a place where those prospects with huge potential are drafted, and that is something Tannehill definitely drips of.
I honestly don’t see him as any worse then Ponder, in fact he’s got a much higher ceiling IMHO.
ChiefWarPaint - February 16, 2012
if we were picking down about 28th, maybe
upamtn - February 16, 2012
Giants picked Jason Pierre-Paul mid-first round
And he’s about as raw as they come, just pure athleticism. Way more raw then Tannehill.
ChiefWarPaint - February 16, 2012
And like Tannehill
A base of talent is there to work with to pair with the athleticism, and the intangibles/drive to put it together.
ChiefWarPaint - February 16, 2012
Ponder has the tape to back it up
Not much to go off of for Tanne, who was inconsistent all year. Yeah.. that sure sounds like a top of the first round pick doesn’t it? 1 year player who didn’t even play that great? You have been watching the Raiders too many years.
