5. Jason Campbell, Raiders
Scouting Report: Sporting strong pocket composure, a long delivery, and sub-optimal anticipation, Campbell requires a dominant rushing attack to succeed with consistency. Although he earned respect as a team leader and executed Hue Jackson’s offense by staying composed and avoiding turnovers, Campbell was less effective down field than Carson Palmer despite a stronger arm. A solid, albeit unspectacular NFL starter, Campbell will have to compete for a starting job in 2012.
Availability: Campbell can’t return to Oakland because he would reportedly become a "polarizing" force among a wide receiver corps that viewed him as an offensive leader prior to the Carson Palmer trade. For the first time in a half-decade, Campbell will not go into training camp with a starting job all but locked up. His best bet may be to re-join QBs coach Jim Zorn in Kansas City as competition for Matt Cassel.
Prediction: Chiefs on a two-year, $9 million contract.
Man, I hope not
This would not be an improvement! Better to keep Orton or get a QB in the draft or even Manning but taking a step sideways doesn’t help . . .

yeah, I'd rather have Orton
Campbell would be OK for depth, though

Would definately prefer Orton, or obviously Manning if healthy and I still like the idea
of Flynn, though that’s probably not going to happen for sure. It’s key IMO that we at least upgrade to Orton.
jcox31mc - February 16, 2012
On page two it has us trading for Jimmy Clausen?
km230015 - February 16, 2012
good lord no!
upamtn - February 16, 2012
He's going to get cut
And i would be ok with signing him for something like a min contract and competing with Stanzi for the #3 spot. That’s it.
I have thought he was extremely overrated coming out of school…but as a cheap backup, I would take him, I suppose.
kcsno56 - February 16, 2012
Only reason i say no is
QB: Cassel, Stanzi, Campbell, Clausen going into camp. According to their article.
km230015 - February 16, 2012
I'm not really following you
kcsno56 - February 16, 2012
Page one of the article has us getting Jason
and then page two has us trading for Clausen so i was just saying that would be the roster based on the article.
wouldnt mind giving him a look if he is cut though and we dont pick up Campbell, and get another QB
km230015 - February 16, 2012
This article from 'Chris Wessling' is no crystal ball.
We are not trading anything of substance for Claussen, and I think it’s more likely they end up cutting him.
kcsno56 - February 16, 2012
Still
meh.
Orton
Campbell
Clausen
Quinn
Meh.
km230015 - February 16, 2012
I like your draft a young QB idea better
Foles, Brock, somebody.
At least have a chance to be a QBOTF
km230015 - February 16, 2012
Oh, completely agree
That was my point all along. The only way I bring in Claussen is if they think Stanzi isn’t going to cut it, and he competes with him for the #3 spot. In that scenario, we have a draft pick like Foles at #2.
Only way I go after Campbell is if we draft a guy like Foles, plan on cutting Stanzi, then have Campbell start the season as #2 with the idea that Foles can hopefully eventually overtake him. Campbell would essentially be the vet backup we should’ve had last year, available as a replacement for Cassel if he gets hurt.
Regardless, we have to get a legit rookie QB in this year as possible QBOTF .
**Note, I change my tune if somehow Peyton is signed. Under that scneario, Cassel is a perfect backup, and then we can draft a late QB to compete with Stanzi for the #3.
kcsno56 - February 16, 2012
ok
i was just going based of the scenario the Article imposed because that would suck going into Camp.
km230015 - February 16, 2012
I like the idea of drafting a QB every year.
km230015 - February 16, 2012
I would prefer a draft pick
Signing someone like Campbell only makes sense if they’ve given up on Stanzi. If so, fine.
Otherwise, we need to at least give ourselves a chance at finding the QBOTF, in whatever round that may be.
You can then have the draft pick (someone like Foles) compete with Stanzi for the #2 spot.
Now…if they don’t think Stanzi has what it takes, go ahead and sign a Campbell to be the #2 and then draft a QB to replace Stanzi as the #3.
The problem that many forget when wanting 2 vet QB’s on the team whether it’s Cassel/Orton or Cassel/Campbell or whatever is that the team will be carrying 3 QB’s tops, and you have to plan accordingly for the roster.
kcsno56 - February 16, 2012
which is why I think all this competition talk means that either they get rid of matt or they let Stanzi compete in a farce and keep . After Romeo had so much drama with Anderson and Quinn I simply cannot see him saying okay lets bring that sort of drama
into the equation when he knows has the makings of a top defense
Willie Beamon - February 17, 2012
I know Chiefs fans aren’t thrilled about the thoughts of Campbell coming over, but I guarantee you he would do better than either Cassel, or even Orton. Campbell has been forced to learn new offenses almost yearly, and he finally was maturing into an above average passer, and I would personally be thrilled if (assuming the Chiefs ignore Manning), he is the guy out of the FA QB’s who is brought in to “challenge” Cassel.
Topchief1 - February 16, 2012
How can you guarantee he would do anything that he hasnt done in the past ?
Campbell is horrible . For all the talk hes never actually produced anything no numbers nothing in . hes been carried throught out his career first by Portis and then by Mcfadden
