The Kansas City Chiefs Coaching Staff As Of Now

The Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff is wide open on the offensive side of the ball. With Bill Muir's retirement announcement, the Chiefs have a number of spots available on the coaching staff. The defensive staff is basically intact but the offense needs several key ingredients.

Here's another look at where we stand with the Chiefs coaching staff an what we're waiting on.

Star-divide

The current offensive staff: Jim Zorn (quarterbacks), Bernie Parmalee (tight ends), Nick Sirianni (offensive quality control) and Maurice Carthon (assistant head coach).

What we're waiting on: offensive coordinator, offensive line, receivers.

The new offensive coordinator will have a couple of pieces in house whenever the Chiefs decide who that person will be. If someone on the outside is hired, you gotta wonder if Zorn will stick around. The Chiefs denied the Bears request to interview Zorn for the same position in Chicago and the KC Star has reported he could resign if he's not made the offensive coordinator (nothing like a little public pressure).

The current defensive staff: Romeo Crennel (defensive coordinator), Gary Gibbs (linebackers), Anthony Pleasant (defensive line), Emmitt Thomas (defensive backs), Adam Zimmer (defensive assistant/assistant linebackers) and Otis Smith (defensive quality control).

What we're waiting on: nothing.

Romeo is officially the defensive coordinator and his staff is staying intact. There were reports that the Oakland Raiders were interested in Emmitt Thomas, perhaps as defensive coordinator. But it sounds like he's staying in Kansas City.

The current special teams staff: Tom McMahon.

The Chiefs let Steve Hoffman go and hired McMahon from the St. Louis Rams.

Are they allowed to have their windows open?
We are waiting for Peyton Manning to pick the offensive coordinator

Or hire him as the player coach. 3 more years at Qb/OC then take over HC when Romeo retires with three more rings.

How has no one rec'd this!

=)

Because I don't believe it to be true...

It’s a nice fantasy, but I doubt he plays again, and I doubt he’s signed by our Patriot Way staffers. Manning to KC is just a nice January/February fantasy…Otherwise I would.

Because it's already been said about a million times?
I'm guessing Daboll will be our WR coach
Or coordinator. But we have no way to know, just yet.

Me, I wouldn’t mind Daboll in town…Some folks absolutely hate the idea because he coached for the Browns and got poor results, and they don’t think he got anywhere with Miami this year.

I watched Miami win games with Reggie Bush as their lead back, Matt Moore running an aggressive, multiple-set offense, and Scissorhands Marshall as their #1 receiver.

Could anyone win in Cleveland besides Marty? Colt McCoy’s best pro season (also his rookie year) came w/ Daboll as his coordinator. Apparently, Coach was a prick to McCoy and it “bothered the whole team”…I would argue that more UT players need an ass-reaming when they end up in the NFL. He hasn’t had good results since Daboll was let go, that’s for sure.

Sourced the McCoy tidbit from Yahoo’s “Shutdown Corner” in early December, btw. I’m too lazy to go looking for the right links.

Scissorhands...lol

Mr. Marshall had a decent 7 on 7…err…Pro Bowl on Sunday.

I will admit, he has some skill. I owned him in fantasy this year...and was a satisfied customer.

But he cannot be trusted to make the simple catch on 3rd and 4, or the game-winning catch with 18 seconds left.

All of the other shit? The cool, 17-yard passes that he turnes into 55-yard runs for TD’s? Especially against poor tackling secondaries and during the Pro Bowl? Gravy :D

Sounds eerily like Bowe, doesn't it?
Adult swim

This ad must go,its a little ignorant.

ignorant?

I’m not sure that word means what you think it means….

What's with all the people on here lately trying to act smart?

If the person used the word, they probably know what it means. Maybe it’s you who doesn’t fully understand all the uses of the word. I agree with the person, I check AP to get Chiefs news, not to see some creepy looking dude half naked wearing a ski mask. Need to get one of those “are you over 18 and don’t mind disturbing images” to enter the AP site these days

There is a contact us section at the bottom of the page

Write SB Nation a stern email. The problem with those ads is that we fall in the shows demographic.

It was good for Adult Swim to get the show out there, but they could have choosen something more tasteful clothing wise, but to me, it is no more annoying then the yelling guy.

You think they would make ads that were engaging and interesting, not make you hate the product.

I was being facetious if the word police don't get after me to question if I know what the word means

Not sure who came up with that advertising idea but they should be out of a job, I don’t even know what product they are pushing because It does the opposite of get my attention to want to know more. I wouldn’t even know it was Adult Swim if I hadn’t read that in comments on threads

Maybe adult swim thought people didn't know about the show...

so they would hammer it into peoples heads.

The show is good enough that maybe some of the irritated people will stick around and get the joke….who knows?

Delocated did have a problem in that no one knew it existed after two seasons on the air, maybe it will work. Personally, I would have took a different route, but maybe that’s why I don’t run a network.

As far as the world police go… they are out there, be careful not to get pulled over in your blogging leisure time for misuse of their, there or they’re or to, too, two, tutu.

Don’t even get them started on effect versus affect. Someone’s head will explode.

I can mute a yelling guy.

I can’t turn off a visual ad without turning off AP……

Yes

This ad is really…wrong.

Dude, chill out, it was a joke

a quote from The Princess Bride even.

I dislike the ad too, for the record.

Ok, that's fair. Let's assume that, since chiefsfool used the word ignorant, he knows what it means and that I'm the one who doesn't understand (God knows that's a very real possibility).

Could somebody, then, please do me the kindness of explaining how the underwear ad is ignorant in this context?

Are we absolutely sure he didn’t mean inappropriate?

Or is the answer something a little more convoluted, like he meant that it was ignorant of AP/SBN to think that the readers wouldn’t have an issue with the ad? If that’s the case he’s at least guilty of some seriously vague phrasing.

The world may never know!

So many questions…so little answers. Damn that Pioli.

I hope when the dust settles...

We have the right guys in the right place this time. Because, we haven’t had that in a long time.

And it shows.

Reading about the Chiefs coaching staff

While a dude in a ski mask and tighty whiteys on a bear rug is staring back at you makes for an uncomfortable morning.

Hey now, this is a judgement free zone. It’s OK to enjoy staring at that mans junk, think Matt Cassel is an underrated quarterback, or think that old man Muir got a raw deal.

Romeo can hire Todd to be the WR coach
Joel thinks if he sells out like PeyPey that Manning will come play in KC

Show him that being a corporate shill is still cool in the City of Fountains. Now, WHO WANTS SOME CHIPOTLE?

I do.

Haven’t had any in a while. Could use a good cleansing.

Where is RD when you need him?
If Manning brings his Neck Aids to the whole team, do we get sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield?
As far as football goes.

I wouldn’t mind seeing this:

Offensive staff:

Al Saunder OC
Jim Zorn QB
Hue Jackson RC
Will Shields AS/OL
Bob Wylie OL

That oughtta do the trick.

Hue > Saunders

Really they are both solid picks.

You get the feeling that nobody wants to keep the guy around...
I'd take him for the Chiefs in a heart beat.

Hue seems like a great position coach.

What is an RC?

WR coach don't know why I typed it like that, I'm an idiot.

I would rather him be the QB Coach, but we have Zorn there already… so.

Take it easy on yourself...lol

Whether its Zorn, Hue, Saunders, or a blind monkey, the offense should be better…

It's all good.

Hey, blind monkey’s do good work.

Especially with a good organ grinder
That might not be the case.

Football coaches spend a lot of time bouncing around from job to job.

wonder if new OC - assuming it's not Zorn - keeps Zorn around
If it is Zorn.

Will he keep Zorn around?

I thought Zorn threatened to walk if he didn't get the OC position. Did I dream that up?
Nope...
So we'll need a QB Coach, too.
Potentially

but that is what Hue Jackson is for.

I hope not

I have not been impressed with what Zorn has done as a coach – anywhere or at any time.

Send him on his way!

...what's he done that's so unimpressive?

Helped develop Charlie Batch, who’s been in the NFL since Bobby Ross collected paychecks in in Detroit…Coached career years for Hasselbeck….helped Seneca Wallace turn into an excuse for a backup quarterback…career year for Flacco…

Enlighten me on why he needs to be “sen(t)…on his way!”.

if he wants to take his ball and go home...

let him walk
