Stanford Routt has spoken.
The newest member of the Kansas City Chiefs spoke with ESPN's Josina Anderson after he agreed to a deal with the KC Chiefs on Monday. Routt was a 2005 draft pick and has spent his entire seven-year career in the AFC West with the Oakland Raiders.

"I trust the Kansas City Chiefs to lead us in the right direction. It helps that I'll be playing in the AFC West going on eight years now, so I think that will be a plus. I've always had a lot of respect for Romeo Crennel with his defensive expertise, so the sky is the limit for us. When you look at that, and combine it with the pieces they have on offense, I don't see why we can't win."
Kansas City "seemed like the right fit," he said.
When he visited the Buffalo Bills last week, he said in a media session that he just wanted to go someplace where he could win because, with the Raiders, he hasn't done a lot of winning. Good to know he believes in the Chiefs future.
Check out the full quotes here. And here's what GM Scott Pioli said about the Routt signing and how it affects Brandon Carr.

Welcome

fleetmarine - February 21, 2012
LOL
GaryfromIA - February 21, 2012
I clicked Rec and it threw a Flag...
Sorry mate!
KSU-Chief - February 21, 2012
Fixed
I put an explanation in the Flag box now it is a rec…
KSU-Chief - February 21, 2012
It puts a little number next to the word flag, but I don't think it actually flags anyone.
It always fixes itself upon reloading the page for me.
bossmanham - February 21, 2012
Yeah, it usually give me the option to unrec...
This time it said “Flag” then it put a page next to it for my comments. It was pretty strange.
KSU-Chief - February 21, 2012
It usally does that for me
pops the 1 next to the flag, if I refresh the page its rec’d though.
Fozzyboyd - February 21, 2012
No worries
fleetmarine - February 21, 2012
get used to FLAGS!!
Routt is in town
chiefsisit!!! - February 21, 2012
Nice
fleetmarine - February 21, 2012
Well played sir...
KSU-Chief - February 21, 2012
Flagged!
Tarkus - February 21, 2012
Heh
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
Let's hope he's one of the key players that the Chiefs
sign/draft this year before the season kicks off. I’m ready to sweep the division this year!!! (too early to for the ‘Chop’ ??!!)
GaryfromIA - February 21, 2012
'I dont see why we cant win'
You seen our QB?
ArrowDread - February 21, 2012
This QB?
ExRoyalsFan - February 21, 2012
hhahahha
RAC’d
Brad-KC - February 21, 2012
That because he had no protection!!
Bad play calling!! Tom Brady would have done the same thing!!! pffffffftttt
WestonK - February 21, 2012
unfortunately, the worst part about the whole thing was the hat drop on the sideline.
ExRoyalsFan - February 21, 2012
Tom Brady would have done that too.
WestonK - February 21, 2012
why would Brady cover up his beautiful hair?
Please try to make some sense next time.
Thank you
Brad-KC - February 21, 2012
lol
shaytron - February 21, 2012
Tommy can't throw the hat *and* provide a head for it to land on, too!
TRSChief - February 21, 2012
nice.
However, if you are not smoking hot then your comment will be disregarded.
WestonK - February 21, 2012
Well dammit. I think you have me there.
TRSChief - February 21, 2012
Man, you hard a**es expect Matty
to put the hat on and get his head under it at the same time? Multi-tasking perfectionists is what you are…………LOL……….;>}
G.L. - February 21, 2012
It was a screen.
By definition, there is no protection.
independent739 - February 21, 2012
really?
Did you just post that? By definition? I am not sure you understand what I was getting at, or who. By definition.
WestonK - February 21, 2012
Whoosh.
MtHammer - February 21, 2012
the more I watch this... the more I fell bad for him when his hat falls :((((
Brad-KC - February 21, 2012
Well stop watching
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
It's hard to not watch a train wreck
Brad-KC - February 21, 2012
Ya can't feel bad for him though
His own deedeedee fault.. and we are the ones who get to suffer the most from it!
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
Keep watching...he eventually gets it on
Nick Britt - February 21, 2012
Such a great reason why KC can
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
FAIL!
Why KC CANNOT win. WTF happened? Feel like #7 and the hat debacle right now…
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
That's an even worse play than I remembered,
WOW, glad that Pioli still has faith in him. FML
dbakerku - February 21, 2012
I can't believe that Jim Harbaugh guy
had faith in Alex Smith. Yea, a NFC championship game must suck. Hmmm what the wonders of a dominate defense, good run game, and a stout offensive line can do for an average QB…..
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
hmmmm
what the wonders of a dominate defense, good run game and above average QB can do for your team…oh yeah, win you a SB.
Brad-KC - February 21, 2012
That formula hasn't worked for a long time now
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
RIIIIIGGGGHHHHTTT....
Since SF and Balitmore where worlds away from playing in Superbowl, right??? Tom Brady and Eli Manning look AVERAGE to me in those games. I blame the kicker, Lee Evans, and the Special Teamer from SF for losing those games. Most deffinetly not either Alex Smith or Joe Flacco.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT
Rant all you want really, go ahead I don’t care.. point is the formula of ‘’dominate defense, good run game and above average QB can do for your team…oh yeah, win you a SB.’’ has not worked in a long time.
last time was what.. Ravens?
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
I'm not ranting at all. I understand Matt Cassel is not a franchise QB.
But I also understand that under the right circumstances we CAN win with Matt Cassel. I think the QB position does need to be upgraded, but I don’t think Matt Cassel is dog shit either. For a guy who “provokes thinking” you sure don’t seem to think logically.
the last time was actually the Buccanneers..
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
Yeah ok so that's the forumla to win by.. yet it hasn't won a SB in forever...
That is logic, look up what the word means
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
The Pats had a great defense during their mutli SB run
Brad-KC - February 21, 2012
Really?
Look at the formula you posted, I quoted.. tell me how Brady and the Pats fit that
Possibly the first one SB but even then they were trusting Brady more than the run game to win games
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
You just proved yourself incorrect. Maybe, the first one, maybe the first one...
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
How did I prove myself incorrect?
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
No logic would mean.. Alex Smith and Joe Flacco
being a few plays from proving my point. If you’re trying to tell me that Alex Smith is not comparable to Matt Cassel then you should really stay off that Whitney Houston diet…
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
Comparable does not mean equal
you know that right?
I would say Smith has more tools than #7 and Flacco is just a better QB.
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
Wow.. the formula was
For the last time
See the win part? How does getting to a Champ game WIN a SB? Want me to point out WIN A SB again? one more time.. WIN A SB.. Flacco/Smith DID NOT
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
They were close!
Does that still equal “no cigar”?
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
I agree with your general argument
But you are completely wrong there…
PVChiefsfan - February 21, 2012
The last two quarterbacks to play in the Super Bowl were Eli Manning and Tom Brady.
The year before that was Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger.
The year before that was Drew Brees and Peyton Manning.
The year before that was Ben Roethlisberger and Kurt Warner.
The year before that was Eli Manning and Tom Brady.
The year before that was Peyton Manning and Rex Grossman.
Hey, look at that! We had to go back 6 years, but we finally found a non-elite quarterback who made it to the Super Bowl!
I mean sure, despite being an interception machine, Grossman was capable of playing for stretches at a level higher anything Matt Cassel is capable of. And sure, that was pre Pollard blowing out Brady’s knee, pre concussion mania, pre new defenseless receiver rules, and a host of other things that have increased the importance of the passing game. And sure, he lost.
But the point is, it’s totally possible to at least almost make it to the Super Bowl, and maybe even possible to make it lose! All we need to do is follow a really dated model for winning from a different era in the NFL that hasn’t resulted in a Super Bowl champion since Brad Johnson! Huzzah!
MtHammer - February 21, 2012
By no means do I think Matt Cassel is a franchise QB, BUT
can you find me the GIF of Matt leading us in comeback against Dallas in 09? Maybe the game winning drive against Buffalo in 2010? Or how bout the game winning drives against Indy or San Diego from last year?
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
Are you kidding me
That Buffalo game was a mess. Cassel sucked the entire game, and I cant believe Chiefs almost tied Buffalo in that season. He got saved by both eric berry and ryan succop.
The only legitimate comeback I give Cassel is the colts, and that was a game the Chiefs should have won easily.
Cassel sucks fishdicks
andrew33 - February 21, 2012
Sounds like an excuse to me...
I remember Cassel excuting the 2 minute offense and setting up the game to be won against Buffalo. Like I said find me that GIF…
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
What did he have, 150 yards in 5 quarters? Quite an impressive game for Cassel.
JComp11 - February 21, 2012
Did we win?
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
Oh great.. whats next Tebow vs Cassel?
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
How is this relevant?
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
Tebow does the same crap
is how that was relevant…can’t believe it has to be explained.
To take it one step farther, by your rationale, Tebow is a good QB because he’s “led” comeback wins.
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
Thanks for explaining that
Done with him/her however
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
You should be because your losing this argument.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
How am I losing it?
You can’t even follow your own line of thinking… ‘winning is all that matters’ uhhhh how does Tebow fit?
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
So are you telling me that Tim Teabow not a winner?
Won a National Championship. Won a Sugar Bowl. Won a Heisman. Won a division. Won a playoff game. He’s a LOSER.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
Not at all
just a terrible QB. And there’s no “a” in his last name…for argument’s sake and all.
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
Lmfao I don't get how someone could actually continue spewing this blabber
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
Me either, man
it’s almost sad, actually.
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
Whats next.. we should cut Berry cause his stats sucked last year?
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
Yes
It is logical after all…and he didn’t help us win any games.
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
Same thing with Charles
Cutting those 2 would give us even more cap to resign Cassel!
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
Emphasizes your stupidity...
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
You getting pwned...
accept that..
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
Lmfao keep trying kid
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
Laughing at the guy using "lmfao" and "BAMF" calling someone a "kid"
Classic.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
So the queen throws out ''pwned'' and doesn't expect to be called a kid
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
"pwned" is complete kid speak
Whereas, acronyms like “LMFAO” are more universally recognized across genders and ages.
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
Ok...everyone, time to give up. The adolescent term "pwned" has been used
Hence we are all, henceforth, banished to the realm of “wrong.”
We are apparently attempting to resist the Borg and we all know how that ends.
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
AP really needs to get a ''ignore'' function that hides all evidence of the poster
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
Agreed
I really love when they come out swinging like this…almost to two hundred and all.
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
I'm sure ups will come in and delete this whole section
Seems that’s what happens when these ‘break out’ posters appear
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
You should of stopped
at “blind squirrels, and nuts”.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
Do tell
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
You should stick to spelling becuase that is the only thing you're correct about.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
Oh thats a good one!
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
Good one? Is the truth..good or bad.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
Matt,
Shouldn’t you be practicing or something ? If they bring in competiton like they say, you’ll need the practice to hopefully make the Backup QB.
dbakerku - February 21, 2012
Should go "...about which you are correct."
…for sound grammar.
Yet somehow, I think arguing my subjective opinion as incorrect is also one you’ll not win.
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
Tebow has also won a Division and a Playoff game. That's god awful. Who would want that?
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
All by his lonesome too
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
That’s your argument? Really?
JComp11 - February 21, 2012
Yea that's my argument. I understand you don't have one, so I'm not surprised by your response.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
The guy threw for 152 yards and we won on a last second field goal. Why would you give him credit for two short passes at the end of the game when he had 5 quarters of terrible play to put the team in that position?
JComp11 - February 21, 2012
He drove us down the field
and we won the game. Thats all I remember from that game. Winning is more important to me than 152yrds.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
All hail #7...the second coming of St. Tebow!
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
Not only is your joke horrible, but your losing credibility quickly.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
Says who?
You?
I quiver with fear!!
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
I wouldn't quiver...it's the internet, BRO.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
Noted, MAN.
See…I can shout too. Yay me!!
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
I'm not shouting?
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
You point out its the interwebz yet don't know all caps=shouting?
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
I don't follow interwebz lingo.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
You telling or asking, Mr. Burgundy?
I can’t tell by your punctuation.
Dammit, who put the question mark on the teleprompter?
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
You know you're losing an argument when you start talking about grammar.
Nice.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
You know you're not winning
when you revert to “pwned”.
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
That’s odd, you referenced the Dallas game from 09 earlier. Could’ve sworn Dallas won that game.
I’m glad wins and losses are the only way to judge players. We better dump the roster and start over then, right?
JComp11 - February 21, 2012
Yea Dallas won that game. But didn't Cassel give us that TD to tie the game and send it into OT?
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut from time to time
..wait…did that cost me more credibility?
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
So now you care about things other than winning? Which is it?
JComp11 - February 21, 2012
Must have cake and eat it too!
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
Please. Give us another one liner.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
No
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
Logic. That's what I care about in this discussion.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
So here’s your logic.
In the Buffalo game we ignore 5 quarters of terrible play where the QB throws for 110 total yards because his final drive (45 yards in passes) ended with a FG that won the game.
At the same time, we ignore the final two drives of the Dallas game (both 3 and outs) and another dazzling 180 yard/five quarter passing performance outside of a single drive because that one good possesion tied the game
The only “logic” I see is that you’re able to pick a single drive out of both games and attribute the win and the almost-win to Cassel.
JComp11 - February 21, 2012
And given that all this nonsense in this thread started with a gif of ONE PLAY that lost us a game
I think his argument is completely relevant
PVChiefsfan - February 21, 2012
Cassel doesn't lose games or win games
the Chiefs do
And until the Chiefs find someone that gives them a better chance to win games than Matt Cassel does he will remain our starting QB.
PVChiefsfan - February 21, 2012
Also
They are always LOOKING for the QB who will give us a better chance to win games than Cassel does, but sacrificing OTHER things to get that QB may actually harm our chances to win more games.
It’s a tricky balancing act, I am sure. If it weren’t, all of us asshats would be general managers.
PVChiefsfan - February 21, 2012
Cassel didn't lose us the game by throwing an INT on the screen play?
News to me
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
No my argument is Matt Cassel is not horrible.
That has always been my bottom line and we “can” and “have” won with Matt Cassel.
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
Anything worthwhile?
I mean besides that division title where the stars aligned with the running game and then we got the woodshed job at home in the playoffs?
Even Flacco and Smith (two guys you used to cement your argument about #7) have playoff wins.
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
My logic is Matt Cassel is not a horrible
as you make him out to be and that we can and have won with Matt as our starting QB.
Zing!!111
AhQueeNo - February 21, 2012
You talk about us "winning" with Matt Cassel.
Well he can hand it off to Jamaal Charles and lob it to Dwayne Bowe against losing teams all season long, but then when it come to playoff time and he has to play a real team he throws 3 picks and our only score is Charles busting a big one.
He can’t hang against playoff teams, and that’s what matter.
bamachief5558 - February 21, 2012
This
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
Matt Cassel cannot freaking throw and catch the ball at the same time!

Routt isn't being a team guy
He is a Chief and referring to the team as they instead of we. Makes one wonder if he was sent here to sabotage the team.
KingChief - February 21, 2012
Clark does the same thing
HIV 2 Elway - February 21, 2012
What?
bossmanham - February 21, 2012
Huh?
The only “they” he used was referring to the offense. Which is a unit he won’t be playing on.
TRSChief - February 21, 2012
I knew a couple people would take the bait
KingChief - February 21, 2012
Typical response
when demolished by other posters.
Brad-KC - February 21, 2012
I knew that the only time Routt said they was in reference to the offense
and I knew that posting that, that others would jump all over it so there really is no demolishing happening there
KingChief - February 21, 2012
I knew you would take the bait.

He knows he has not done anything yet to deserve to be called a chief, You earn your arrowhead just like the rooks in training camp, In my opinion he is being respectful saying them it is are chiefs team now that we love and has a bright future…

SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
crazy but
Tag/Trade Carr to indy for for Manning, they desperately need a CB… they let Cassel score 4 TD’s on them…
BlackDoom - February 21, 2012
No no no no no
Plus Indy can’t afford to actually trade Manning, they would have to eat most of his contract
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
Yes, im sure Pioli, and any other GM for that matter...
Is jumping at having the chance to pay Manning that 28 million dollar bonus he’s due March 13…
Chiefs08Matt - February 21, 2012 via mobile
Not sure that would exist
He’s talked of restructuring his contract in case he can’t play right away due to the nerve.
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
There is, at best, a 0.00000000000000000000000000000001% chance that Manning gets traded.
He’s getting cut. The next most likely scenario after that (which isn’t even remotely likely) is that he restructures his deal and stays with the Colts while they groom Luck. For all intents and purposes, there is zero chance that he restructures his contract so the Colts can deal him.
MtHammer - February 21, 2012
Nothing in it for Manning to redo his deal just to be traded
Doesn’t get the same chance to pick the team he would want like being a FA
Costs his team players/picks that could help the new team win
BAMFSpecialOps - February 21, 2012
Wasn't arguing that he'd restructure for the Colts
just that I’d heard he was open to the “no up-front guarantees” in a new deal elsewhere. Sorry for lack of clarification.
SCKSChief - February 21, 2012
Yeah, in that case he wouldn't need to "restructure his contract" because he wouldn't have one after being cut.
Any structuring done on his next contract with a new team would be the first structuring.
MtHammer - February 21, 2012
Phrasing...gotcha.
