This is two straight days with quite a bit of Kansas City Chiefs. On Monday, it was the Stanford Routt signing. And on Tuesday it was GM Scott Pioli's interview with 810 WHB's Border Patrol. With so much stuff going on, here are a few links to the highlights of our from today:
- Dwayne Bowe likely getting the franchise tag. This was me saying what everyone else was (and still is) saying. Bowe will be a Chief in 2012. I didn't realize the Chiefs GM would basically confirm that later in the morning.
- Pioli: Stanford Routt signing doesn't affect Brandon Carr. The Chiefs still want Carr back, that I agree with. I also think the Routt signing is a good sign Carr is on his way out. You can't look at it independently, though. This is a combination of a lot of factors: Carr and the Chiefs not having a deal, Routt, a good player in the Chiefs mind, being available.
The rest after the jump.

Routt on Chiefs: 'I don't see why we can't win'. Routt talked to ESPN's Josina Anderson after the signing. He also talked with Doug Farrar of Yahoo! Sports, which is all I know of so far.
KC Chiefs salary cap explained. Yes, the Chiefs have $63 million in cap space right now. But before the league year starts another $25 million will be taken up via escalators and incentives from current players. So the Chiefs real number is $37 million. Still a lot.
Don't forget about compensatory picks. Comp picks, something that doesn't get much air time in the NFL. Pretty interesting stuff though if you ask me (which you didn't).
Pioli: Chiefs want Bowe back 'one way or another'. In other words, whether it's the franchise tag or a longterm deal, the Chiefs want Bowe back.
:)
I really like to see what moves we will make this off-season. This will be the year I think some of the fire under Scott will die down. This man have been getting us guys that want to play for us and still care about the game. We don’t have any player on are team that thinks it’s me first.
BuddyMcLoving - February 21, 2012
I wonder what will happen next....................
LadyChief - February 21, 2012
Palko gets the Tag
TheScreenName - February 21, 2012

Think so?

I'll post this here as well
http://www.raiders.ninjagoro.com/2012/01/stanford-routts-2011-season-part-1-the-penalties/
^Write-up by a Raiders fan on Stanford Routt, goes pretty in-depth and goes into 4 parts breaking down his play from 2011. Including the Penalties and the Touch Downs allowed.
Its a damn good write-up even if its from a Raider fan, I suggest everybody read this to learn more about our new Chief. He’s a bit misunderstood I think.
ChiefWarPaint - February 21, 2012
I am very surprised by this.
Not at the information that’s inside the link, but that Raiders fans can read and write.
nateforchiefs - February 21, 2012 via mobile
LOL
I hear this penalty bullshit and it makes me laugh.. The raiders have led the league in penalties for quite some time now so its obvious there isnt a high concern to not have them.
I find it hard to believe that he will come here and it stay the same.. Revis should be penalized a shitload of times but the refs let him get away with it.. Physical guys will win some and lose some.. Just gotta find a way to drop the amount.
TheScreenName - February 21, 2012
They can dance too.................
LadyChief - February 21, 2012
Is that their team bus in the background?
TheScreenName - February 21, 2012
Hardy har har
Raider fans are people too, even if they like to dress up like its Halloween.
ChiefWarPaint - February 21, 2012
raiders fans only exist
to help the rest of the world feel good about themselves
TheScreenName - February 21, 2012
heard the interview by kevin ross former chief and raider coach talking about routt
he said if routt played for another team he would not have all those penalties. Anyone else see how routt was better than carr in 2010 in stats? Take away Nnamdi and he didnt do as good wonder what carr will be like when you take away flowers? I cant wait to see for all the people not on board with the routt signing and carr leaving.
I see it like this same guy just half the price. great hire, sorry carr but you wanted to much money that we already gave the big contracts away to other players in our secondary it had to happen.
chad unit - February 21, 2012
It seems like the penalties could be lack of focus.
11 penalties came in 3 games, while he 8 games he has none. To me that doesn’t say he is always dirty/physical, just that he loses his cool or lets the game get away from him. If we can keep his mind right he could work well for us.
nateforchiefs - February 21, 2012
wonder what the score was in those games he got those penalties?
think they was getting beat pretty good and he broke down mentally?
chad unit - February 21, 2012
Nah they won 2 out of the 3.
ChiefWarPaint - February 21, 2012
wonder what it was then? maybe he brought his problems at home to work?
chad unit - February 21, 2012
Well from the link:
Seems the more physical the WR, the more physical he gets.
I’m liking this guy more and more, especially this paragraph:
ChiefWarPaint - February 21, 2012
That bottom paragraph
is huge. Not letting one play affect the next is a very good attribute.
TheScreenName - February 21, 2012
I watched the film of the penalties
I’d have thrown a flag on every one. Uh oh.
XianDave - February 21, 2012
I think Crennel/Thomas can get him to tone that down a bit
And wearing Red will also have that diminish, I saw Carr/Flowers get away with a lot of grabbing last year.
ChiefWarPaint - February 21, 2012
thats because he was a raider
dgoddard - February 22, 2012
Carr and Routt?
I confess I am secretly hoping that they resign Carr as well, with the possibility that we move Routt to Safety. Then we will shore up our secondary, and make it even better than it already is. His move to safety would be ala C. Woodsons (GB). Could lengthen his career and make the team better IMO. Anybody with me? :)
jskirk71 - February 21, 2012
Heres the thing though
would it benefit us more, since we have Routt now, to not re-sign Carr and use that money in another area of need? Say OL, or NT?.
TheScreenName - February 21, 2012
Its a passing league and we struggle to get to the QB
However given enough time, like say the time 3 Above-Average/Great corners can give, Hali can sack the QB on every play.
ChiefWarPaint - February 21, 2012
true
but I think with or without Carr, we will be top defense,
TheScreenName - February 21, 2012
Play the nickel D most of the time? It could work.
Flowers, Carr, Routt, Berry and Lewis in the secondary. Houston (who can rush the QB and cover the pass), DJ in the middle and Hali on one end doing their thing. TJax, Soliai and Dorsey holding the line of scrimmage. Berry and Lewis both can play close to the LOS almost as another linebacker like we did with McGraw last year. Keep Gordon and Bailey as backup DEnds and NT.
nateforchiefs - February 21, 2012
That was my thought prior to the signing
and makes perfect sense to me.
TXChiefan - February 21, 2012
wont happen to much money in the secondary.
chad unit - February 21, 2012
Like how you think
Just a couple little tweaks. On passing downs TJax and Dorsey should be getting a drink on the sidelines and we should be bringing Bailey and Gilberry with Soliai/Powe/Gordon
KCMikeG - February 21, 2012
I don't disagree, but...
I think we can address those issues easier within the draft. Plus, even if we resign Carr, we can still address some of those issues via free agency with our current cap space. But as I said, a guy can dream. :)
jskirk71 - February 21, 2012
Not a bad dream
seems like this can pan out a number of different ways
TheScreenName - February 21, 2012
I 100% agree with
Moving rout to free safety, signing Carr and that would be by far the best secondary in Football!!! Doubt Pioli will pay that kind of money to the secondary…. We can dream though… Carr may change his stance and give us a discount? It has to sound appealing to him anyways..
Kclown - February 21, 2012 via mobile
Dolphin won't offer a new deal to Henne
Per PFT
I think KC should give him a look…and reunion him with Breaston. I know he won’t be the starter but he at least would make a fine back up.
What do you think?
angrydeafman - February 21, 2012
Chiefs already have two backup QBs.
Tarkus - February 21, 2012
agree...
stay away from that move
TheScreenName - February 21, 2012
Stanzi I would keep...
But Palko!?! Cassel!?! I would rather have Henne over those guys.
angrydeafman - February 21, 2012
Id rather have a quadriplegic over Palko
Cassel and Henne doesnt seem like much of a difference as far as backups go, which is where I think they belong, so why not keep the guy that we already have signed?
TheScreenName - February 21, 2012
This.
Tarkus - February 21, 2012
Agree..................
LadyChief - February 21, 2012
Cassel is due
5.25 million dollars for 2012.
Henne’s 2011 base salary was only 555,000. Not very far from Palko’s for the 2011 and he is RFA.
I am pretty he wouldn’t break the bank if he replaced Palko. Daboll was his OC for the 2011 so that helps….
angrydeafman - February 21, 2012
ok
then shit cann everyone and start from scratch
TheScreenName - February 21, 2012
Not saying that...
that’s what training camp is for. To find the best player…it’s called competition. Besides are you telling me that you are fine with Cassel, Stanzi, and Palko for the 2012?
angrydeafman - February 21, 2012
I was saying shit cann them then, didnt mean to make it sound like you were suggesting that
No I am not fine with Cassel/Palko/Stanzi……I wouldnt mind Orton starting, Stanzi number 2 and somebody not named Palko at 3…
TheScreenName - February 21, 2012
I wouldn't mind that either...
Orton, Stanzi and Henne would look a lot better than Cassel, Palko, and Stanzi ;)
angrydeafman - February 21, 2012
They're the same player
Back-ups
ChiefWarPaint - February 21, 2012
I would take Cassel over Henne.
Cassel aint great, but he is better than Henne for sure.
nateforchiefs - February 21, 2012
Henne looked pretty alright playing for Daboll before he got hurt.
His decision making isn’t as good as Cassel’s but he’s better at reads and has an honest to God deep ball.
If we’re not going to draft a QB in the first two rounds or bring in Manning, I’d like Henne as Cassel’s competition just as much as Orton or Campbell.
MtHammer - February 21, 2012
If you check the mock draft section
you will see where we can have RG3 backing up Peyton for a year, and costing us very little.
Don’t set your goals so low,… it doesn’t become you ;-)
tomachop - February 22, 2012
Ya, RG3 will be backing up Peyton...Obama will personally pay off 100% of the national debt...and a monkey will fly out of tomachop's bum bum.
Ain’t gonna happen.
DivineGrace - February 22, 2012
The monkey part is most likely
nateforchiefs - February 22, 2012
no.
LadyChief - February 21, 2012
mmm I disagree with the "gimme" that Bowe will get the tag
Lot of options out there…
1st of all.. it’s in Bowe’s interest to SIGN a long term, fair deal. More guaranteed money and potentially a really nice contract.
2nd of all, it’s in the Chiefs interested to sign Bowe, tag Carr and have even more options.
Brad-KC - February 21, 2012
I disagree with your disagree of the "gimme"
TheScreenName - February 21, 2012
well then sir
In typical discussions / debates, you should provide reasons for your argument. I have… your turn.
Brad-KC - February 21, 2012

it probably isnt…..thats my provided reasons for my argument..
More or less just fucking with ya.. I do think Bowe will get tag unless he signs first of course

I'm in agreement with your disagreement of the disagreement.
ExRoyalsFan - February 21, 2012
I disagree.
I think.
Chiefs will try to get a deal done with Bowe without using the tag. Ergo, it’s not a gimme that he’ll be tagged.

disagree to agree?
TheScreenName - February 21, 2012
Indeed?
Rac_City29 - February 21, 2012
Basically, I think it's in the interest of BOTH Bowe and the Chiefs to reach a long term deal
He wont get Fitz (QB) money anywhere. We can give him a nice 6 year 50 mil deal with 20 guaranteed.
Brad-KC - February 21, 2012
You think he'd sign for 6 year 50 mil?
ExRoyalsFan - February 21, 2012
yeah
Brad-KC - February 21, 2012
They were predicting the Santonio Holmes deal for Bowe today.
That’s 5 years and 45 million with 24 guaranteed IIRC
WURoyal - February 21, 2012 via mobile
Id rather have him
than Holmes

Anyone else watch ESPN with weinkie talking about peyton's injury?
If not here is what was talked about, Chris weinkie former carolina panthers QB had pretty much the same injury when in college from a really good hit and had to do all the rehab and couldnt throw 5 yards said his throwing arm was just gone, He did the rehab and he said about 7 months later he was back to throwing great, he later went on to win the national championship at florida st that year, then the next year went on to win the heisman I think? Dont quote me on the second one he won something the second year after coming back from the injury I remember. Then went on to the NFL with the injury never bothering him again. He said with peyton’s mental drive he should come back better than he did, in fact he also said when he came back his arm felt better than before the injury, he thinks cause of the rehab working it so much. He said having the injury he was just as likely to get hurt cause of it after the rehab as a guy who never got the injury.
pretty cool I guess hearing that, Im sketchy about peyton but that kind of makes you wonder is it possible still for him to come to kc? Chris said him and peyton didnt have the same injury but alot of it was close to the same. Who knows peyton’s might not have been as bad as Weinkie’s injury for all we know I never heard him say who had the worse injury just that it was about the same.
Didnt want to make a fan post or fan shot figured I would share in a comment. Any thoughts on this? Anyone else watch it?
chad unit - February 21, 2012
Peyton is older and it takes longer to recover from injuries when you're 35 vs whatever Weinke was.
Can he come back? Probably. But I dont think he will be 100% before the start of next season, I say pass on Peyton.
nateforchiefs - February 21, 2012
He will have had more time than Chris in his recovery also while your talking about age.
the guy has determination like no other, Im on the fence about it honestly its the thought of peyton manning at QB for us while also the risk of is he the old peyton manning?
Just saying what they was saying on espn, im neither here nor there but think there are points to be made for both sides on this.
chad unit - February 21, 2012
Plus Peyton has world-class doctors, with 15 more years of experience dealing with the injury for the entire medical field
Who knows how surgical and rehabilitation techniques have improved in that time.
Sam D - February 21, 2012
Plus Peyton
had 4 surgeries and Chris had one – kinda similar sort of maybe. Peyton is done.

Brad-KC - February 21, 2012
Frank Martin should be seen as a basketball genius for getting K-State back on track
manofnothi - February 22, 2012
Hmmm..
I would still like to see Carr resigned but i agree with comments above that we could maybe use that money else where… let’s sure up the D and O line and I think we should be pretty good this year! I’m gonna say we probably end up with Cassel under center but I wouldn’t mind giving Orton a shot, I like him. And lets have a good draft! GO CHIEFS
sweetactionjackson13 - February 21, 2012
We are gonna end up with Cassel at quarterback so we might just
as well make our defense and the offensive line/running backs just as good as they possibly can be for the coming season. We are not going to have a decent quarterback. Our only option as I see it is to play fantastic “D” and ram it down people’s throat with the running game.
G.L. - February 22, 2012
Orton over Cassel is easy decision!
Look at how crisp Orton’s passes are compared to Cassels. I watched Cassel at Training Camp make fun of the other QB’s when he could not even hit a barrel in the end zone. This is a no brainer!
Dan Sample - February 21, 2012
"Let's just keep matriculatin' the ball downfield fellas..."...
KCChef - February 21, 2012
Hmm if anything
the evidence shows that Pioli wants a long term deal with Bowe and also wants to retain Carr.
Although there is a possibility of Bowe getting the tag, and Carr being allowed to leave, I feel as if Pioli would pay more than he would have so he doesn’t have to let Carr walk away for nothing. Keeping Flowers, Routt, and Carr is a very feasible scenario imo as well.
andrew33 - February 21, 2012
Who the Fuck would even TRY to Pass against that Secondary ?...
KCChef - February 21, 2012
hadn't really thought about this but
Nickel package: Flowers Carr, Berry, Routt, Lewis, with DJ dropping into coverage. Sounds sweeet!
Won’t happen though, I hate my little fantasy letdowns sometimes….
tomachop - February 22, 2012
More likely than RGIII backing up Peyton Manning
DivineGrace - February 22, 2012
You know, I am an offense leaning
kind of fan………BUT……………if we could retain Carr, and add a solid nose tackle, I just might become a defense leaning kind of guy. That would be some serious ass kickin’ potential.
