Good morning! This is the day everyone has waited for. Today's Kansas City Chiefs news includes a 'Bachelor' recap. Oh, and we officially have a new offensive coordinator. Enjoy.
"This is a great opportunity," Daboll said in a team-released statement. "After meeting with Romeo, it was clear to me Kansas City was a good fit. I have a lot of respect for Romeo and a strong appreciation for the Kansas City Chiefs franchise.
"Romeo and I have similar ideas on the direction of the program, and we have a good core group of players to get started with. I'm ready to get in as soon as possible and start working to be a part of something special."

Daboll joins the Chiefs after one season (2011) in Miami where he held the same position for the Dolphins. In 2011, the Dolphins offense had both a 1,000-yard rusher and a 1,000-yard receiver for the first time in franchise history. RB Reggie Bush picked up 1,086 yards on 216 carries and had five 100-yard rushing performances. WR Brandon Marshall caught a team-high 81 passes for 1,214 yards and recorded five 100-yard receiving days en route to a Pro Bowl appearance on the AFC squad.

Warm weather? Favorable contract? There are a number of teams - from the Chiefs to the Redskins - who can offer as much money or more than Miami. Warm weather should not play a part if the team around Manning would be horrible. If anything, the Chiefs have the skill positions up and ready for a quarterback like Manning to use - from a young exciting tight end to a dynamic running game to very capable receivers.
Peyton Manning Rumors: Miami Dolphins Listed As Early Favorites By Adam Schefter from SB Nation Kansas City
After a rousing round of windmills and sit-ups for all - led by former Kansas City Chiefs football player Eddie Kennison - Branstad signed a Fuel Up to Play 60 pledge banner in the gym, and talked to students about the importance of good nutrition and staying fit. He emphasized the Healthiest State Initiative program, which encourages good nutrition and fitness.

Those honors came despite the efforts of Roaf's late mother to push him toward another career path. His father is a Pine Bluff dentist, but mother Andree Layton Roaf, the first black woman to serve on the Arkansas Supreme Court, would have preferred her son become a brain surgeon or lawyer.
"My dad and I talked about it recently that she is smiling down from Heaven knowing that I am being recognized for being one of the best left tackles," Roaf said. "She would have preferred that I was a better student, but she wanted the best for me in whatever I chose to do."
Willie Roaf Still Making Mother Proud from The Shreveport Times
Emily steps up to the plate again and confesses to Ben about her "other man" - the Kansas City Chiefs. It's actually pretty funny, maybe she has redeemed herself from those trainwreck other one-on-ones. And even when Ben leads her to the subject of Courtney, Emily doesn't rise to the bait. Good girl.
'The Bachelor': A Man, A Plan, A Canal - Panama! from Zap 2 It
I grew up in the Kansas City suburbs described in Tom Frank's What's the Matter with Kansas. Chiefs and Royals fandom was rampant, but Kansas City as it was felt insular and homogenous, and considerably satisfied with itself. Great sports moments in Kansas City felt like an intensification of normal life, not a transformation of it.

Has anyone read the book...
Whats a matter with Kansas? Id be interested in hearing if its a good read or not.
Matt in KC - February 7, 2012
I enjoyed it
The book has nothing to do with sports, but is a chronicle of how the state went from a progressive hotbed to the conservative stronghold that it is today. Obviously it is a bit slanted to the left, but it is a well-researched read.

Check the Slickipedia page - the Overview is an adequate summary/description
and like FtP below mentions – it’s a look at the political shift in Kansas over the last century+.
Here’s the link to tha wikiwiki

Worth the time,
especially if you grew up in the areas of Kansas that Tom writes about. Not only is it about a transformation from progressive to conservative but also about how populism was different back then. But, I may be biased as I grew up in a time and part of the state that revered people like Truman as well as Eisenhower (remember Truman from Independance MO and Eisenhower’s boyhood home was Abilene KS) and the writing of men such as E.B. White and William Allen White.

Lets all remember
We need to remember that the Dolphins beat our ass,and guess who was their offensive cordinator? so lets give him the chance to prove himself.
chiefsfool - February 7, 2012
Indeed
I’m pumped for the season, and can’t wait for FA and the draft. Our “arrow is pointing up” I’d say! :)
cheapham - February 7, 2012
you need to remember
Who start 0-7. Agree tho only time will tell how he pans out

I wasn't sure about Daboll, but I'm starting to come around
If he came make Reggie Bush a 1,000 yard rusher, he should be able to kill the ground game with JC

came=can

Also
A guy that made Derek Anderson pro-bowl worthy and also helped Matt Moore look workable.
I’m a bit surprised Miami never had a 1k yard receiver before, especially with Marino for all those years.
Ochophosphate - February 7, 2012
wonder ... how much of that, for Bush and Moore ... was "great OC:"
… vs how much was “great Oline” getting it together and 1) opening holes 2) pocket protection time
upamtn - February 7, 2012
From what I have heard
the right side of that line is pretty weak and needs an upgrade bad
KingChief - February 7, 2012
The ratings in links from Bewsaffs blog
show their RH and LH tackle play could be a carbon copy of the Chiefs. lh – top 15, rh bottom 10.
rdc - February 7, 2012
Pretty sure
Jake Long dropped pretty far back on OL rankings
Brad-KC - February 7, 2012
He was hurt and had a really slow start of the season
I think his first 6 games or so he was not playing up to typical Jake Long levels. Toward the middle and end of the season he was returning to form as a beast of a LT.
Ochophosphate - February 7, 2012
Impossible.
They didn’t even have DeCastro on their line.
Tarkus - February 7, 2012
I'm pretty sure
they’ve had receivers that reached the 1,000 yard mark several times, but this was the first time they’ve had a 1,000 yard receiver AND 1,000 yard rusher the same year.
hebegb - February 7, 2012
Well that makes sense
and with the rarity that they have 1000 yard rushers (especially when Marino was there) there would be few opportunities for both to occur simultaneously.
Thanks for catching and clearing up my poor reading comprehension.
Ochophosphate - February 7, 2012
I'm surprised Warfield didn't do it.
Back when they had all those backs getting 1,000 yards.
Tarkus - February 7, 2012
PANAMA!
because Van Halen ain’t got NUFFIN’ on my guy right here
upamtn - February 7, 2012
“After meeting with Romeo, it was clear to me Kansas City was a good fit.”
ie – "it was perfectly clear that next season I would be working at a 7-11 if Scott Pioli didn’t have a Patriots connection complex. "
rdc - February 7, 2012
It's funny
No other media mentions the Chiefs other than AP and SB Nation as a possible landing spot for Manning. Listening to ESPN Radio and NFL Network and they have never mentioned us a possibility…yet we continue to actually think it’s a possibility.
chai1836 - February 7, 2012 via mobile
We only get attention when it's negative news
This would be considered positive news for us so we are obviously not a choice for Manning
KingChief - February 7, 2012
I think it's the fact that they throw turds out there like Washington
as potential landing spots, and we have to believe that if Washington is in the race, then so is KC. That same logic is likely applied to Miami.
Ochophosphate - February 7, 2012
I have heard...
Miami, Washington, NY Jets and no others. They are mentioned every time Manning’s name comes up. I would think that we would at least get a nod for rumors if there were any indication that he would consider coming here or if we were attempting to push for him.
chai1836 - February 7, 2012
Kinda like the Eagles were mentioned last year for nmandi?
Remember the 3 and 4 letter networks don’t always know what’s going on. They just throw crap on the wall and hope it sticks most of the time. I’m sure when FA starts Mannings agent will be having discussions with half of the league. Yet all we’re gonna hear outside of AP and SBN and KC will be the trendy teams as dictated by those networks. I.e. Miami, Washington, NYJ. Its up to Manning and his agent where he’ll ultimately end up…
Chiefs08Matt - February 7, 2012 via mobile
I think it's mostly because
Pioli hasn’t went after the sexy free agents before. That and the whole small market thing.
Tarkus - February 7, 2012
We'll probably never know, but Pioli may never even try.
