Let's recap the Kansas City Chiefs coaching movement since the end of the season....
Romeo Crennel was retained as head coach; Crennel will be the defensive coordinator; the defensive staff is staying intact; special teams coach Steve Hoffman was not brought back; Tom McMahon hired from the Rams as special teams coach; Richie Anderson (receivers) and Pat Perles (assistant offensive line) were not retained; Bill Muir (offensive line and offensive coordinator) retired; Crennel expects Jim Zorn to stick around; Brian Daboll hired.
That's the gist of it right there, which means we have two spots remaining -- receivers and offensive line (and possibly assistant offensive line).
Crennel confirmed on Tuesday's conference call that the Chiefs were still in the search process for the offensive line coach. There aren't any known candidates for that position.
Crennel also said he knows the direction he wants to go at receivers coach. Who would that be? We don't know yet but Kent Babb of the KC Star wondered if it was an in-house hire, perhaps offensive quality control coach Nick Sirianni. We'll see what the Chiefs announce on that.
That's all we've got on the Chiefs coaching search.

Is Crennel keeping the DC title?
Brad-KC - February 7, 2012
Yes, according to kcchiefs.com
Nick Britt - February 7, 2012
Ugh, I'll have to think how I feel about that.
As of right now, I’d much rather have him be the HC with a heavy influence on what the DC does. He was a great DC…but would hate to have our Defense take a step back because he has too much to manage now.
Brad-KC - February 7, 2012
I think we're a little jaded by the experience with Haley
Haley tried to run the offense while still having his hands in everything. I believe RAC will leave the offense alone and thus have time to focus on the D.
MNchiefsfan - February 7, 2012
I think Haleys deal was
they would come up with the game plan during the week and then veto everything during the game. I think that is why we had so many wasted timeouts and then it all changed when he was gone
KingChief - February 7, 2012
That's a possibility as well
It would fit with the general idea that he was a little overconfident and stubborn.
I believe if he becomes more willing to adapt he’ll be a fine coach.
MNchiefsfan - February 7, 2012
The problem with Haley was
He fired his OC a week before the regular season, and instituted a whole new offense.
This wont be an issue at all with Crennel.
ChiefWarPaint - February 7, 2012
Also true
MNchiefsfan - February 7, 2012
Can we hire the Stanford offensive line coach?
nateforchiefs - February 7, 2012
Or Wisconsin
Steve_Chiefs - February 7, 2012
I would like to see Will Shields be the OL assistant or coach
KingChief - February 7, 2012
Saw pics of Siriani at the Senior Bowl with Crennel and Pioli
Methinks if he isn’t getting a promotion “officially,” he will still be a big part of what we do offensively.
Nick Britt - February 7, 2012
Daboll mentioned him in his Q&A too.
Some speculated that since he was considered a Haley guy that he’d be let go. It would be nice if he developed into a bright young coach in K.C.
Tarkus - February 7, 2012
That is still a possibility...But
They appeared to make all of their firings already.
Now, Todd Haley may bring some of these coaches to Pttsburgh, I wouldn’t be shocked to see Sirianni go there with him.
I think either way, Nick Sirianni will develop into a bright young coach.
Chief-blinders-on - February 7, 2012
I just thought it telling that Daboll mentioned him.
And Nick said above that he was at the Senior Bowl with Pioli and RAC. If he’s under contract, Haley might not get that chance.
Tarkus - February 7, 2012
That is true, but I think Pioli and RAC would leave the door open if it
was an obvious upgrade to Nick’s career. I don’t see KC bending over backwards for Haley and pals anytime soon.
However, you have to wonder if Pittsburgh wouldn’t do something crazy later and trade for Dwayne Bowe if he is franchised.
Chief-blinders-on - February 7, 2012
If we can't sign Bowe long term
Then that’s something I potentially see happening.
Although if that’s the road that has to be travelled, I’m guessing we’d be ringing the Ram’s phone first and foremost.
Just spitballing… but if I’m the GM, I look at Dorsey and see him as a guy we’re not going to be able to keep next year. If Bowe’s in the same boat? I go this route…
Swap firsts with the Rams and give them Bowe/Dorsey. I believe the combination of one star and one instant starting run stuffer (something they need badly) would be enough to do the trick and would be more appealing than any combo of draft picks another team could offer.
Best case for me is to keep Bowe and trade picks for RG3, but if he’s not staying anyways…
MNchiefsfan - February 7, 2012
There are definitely options out there...
some more delusional than others.
Chief-blinders-on - February 7, 2012
Nicely put
electriclight - February 7, 2012
And ouch :)
MNchiefsfan - February 8, 2012
Ouch :)
MNchiefsfan - February 8, 2012
How about Reese Morgan...
Iowa every year produces high round offensive linemen, technicians…and has a great track record, and teaches the same blocking system as we do…what do you thing?
REESE MORGAN
Alex Humphries - February 7, 2012
Bob Wylie please.
GenericBrand - February 7, 2012
Bob Wylie
and Henry Ellard (WR Coach) would be a nice mix of coaches.
Cap that off with Will Shields as Asst OL and the Chiefs would be in a great situation IMO.
Chief-blinders-on - February 7, 2012
Frank Reich is another interesting candidate for Receivers Coach.
Chief-blinders-on - February 7, 2012
The comeback QB?
Tarkus - February 7, 2012
Sure
Chief-blinders-on - February 7, 2012
He had the largest comeback in NCAA history too.
At least at the time.
Tarkus - February 7, 2012
This a great resource to look at the NFL Coaching situation
Every Coach in the NFL and where they are.
Chief-blinders-on - February 7, 2012

woody555 - February 7, 2012
When is your renewal due?
Tarkus - February 7, 2012
It's already past
kcsno56 - February 7, 2012
Maybe he means next year.
Tarkus - February 7, 2012
Hey
that’s a Mens’ Wearhouse suit
KingChief - February 7, 2012
I like JC Penny suits.
Good value in my opinion.
nateforchiefs - February 7, 2012 via mobile
they are a little cheap if you are a multi-mill-billionaire.
Chief-blinders-on - February 7, 2012
Has Mo Carthon still got a job?
stenerud's roost - February 7, 2012
Yes.
- Brian Daboll
Tarkus - February 7, 2012
interesting
SDChief - February 7, 2012
They forgot someone
They forgot to mention me, the Armchair QB Coach.
Nathan4288 - February 7, 2012
The Chiefs have this guy as an option down in Carolina too
Offensive Consultant – Ricky Proehl
Could be an interesting choice. I’m interested in finding out who Romeo’s WR guy is.
Chief-blinders-on - February 7, 2012
Ricky Proehl is one of my favorite players ever.
Doubt he would leave Carolina but it would make me a happy camper.
GenericBrand - February 7, 2012
Yeah, who knows if he would leave
but he seems like he would be a good WR’s coach IMO. Just spitballin’
Chief-blinders-on - February 7, 2012
My two cents
Henry Ellard WR coach.
Get our guys a true WR as the coach. He played and he played great. Would be a great guy to tutor and coach our young WR’s.
Matt_Grbac - February 7, 2012 via mobile
And for Oline coach
Steve Loney
Coach Rams oline last few years. Was big on the Iowa coaching staff for quite a few years coaching oline.
Matt_Grbac - February 7, 2012 via mobile
I think Kirk Ferentz has a big share of the O-Line coaching also
Isn’t the Rams O-Line worse than ours?
Nick Britt - February 7, 2012
just researched more on Loney
Nevermind I said that :)
Matt_Grbac - February 7, 2012
someone call joe bugel
SDChief - February 7, 2012
There ya go.
Or what’s Art Shell up to these days?
Tarkus - February 7, 2012
He is a spring chicken
Chief-blinders-on - February 7, 2012
That pic is just asking to be captioned.
