The Kansas City Chiefs enter their second month of the Romeo Crennel era.
Nothing happened on the field in the last month since the Chiefs weren't in the playoffs but KC did make the Romeo move official in January. Crennel went down to Mobile, Alabama to scout during Senior Bowl week and also made a radio row appearance at Super Bowl XLVI.
Crennel also filled out the coaching staff hiring Brian Daboll as offensive coordinator and Tom McMahon as special teams coach. The defensive staff stayed intact. Crennel did not retain three guys -- Richie Anderson (receivers), Pat Perles (assistant offensive line) and Steve Hoffman (special teams).
We had Romeo's first approval poll back in January -- 84 percent -- before he was officially hired on January 9.
So it's been about a month since Crennel has officially been on the job. It'll be eight more months before we see him coach a game that counts but there's a lot to be done in the offseason.
Go ahead and vote in the poll.

I've placed every aspect of this team squarely into the middle of the "Not Sure" category
Buck'O - February 8, 2012
I'm with you...
At least until they give me a “Please God, I hope so” category to vote for.
Scott B. - February 8, 2012
Approve.
This defense is going to annihilate teams next year. Can’t wait to see a healthy team return. Berry, Lewis, DJ, Tamba, Houston, Flowers, Carr (he’ll be resigned) all on the field at once? With an improving Dorsey and Jackson? Hell yeah.
Tomahawk29 - February 8, 2012
Pushing for Orton....approve
Not ready to crown the D yet, this is the D that got straight embarassed many many times
HIV 2 Elway - February 8, 2012
Pretty significant reasons why they got embarassed though.
Still would like to see a real NT for the first time since we started this 3-4 and some DB and DE depth.
GenericBrand - February 8, 2012
I'm gonna argue that they got straight embarrassed when the offense couldn't stay on the field.
Get Berry back, give Houston a full off season to develop, and implement an O that isn’t pathetic and this D is going to wreck opponents.
Tomahawk29 - February 8, 2012
I agree up to the point of
implement an O that isn’t pathetic
This is where they have to show me
Buck'O - February 8, 2012
Yep
LadyChief - February 8, 2012
Right on the money.
Mr.Pibbs - February 8, 2012
Hopefully
Hali and houston spend sum qt togethr this offense, hali is the perfect mentor.imo.
kcchiefsfan515 - February 8, 2012 via mobile
Yeah I like how he's publicly said he wants Orton back
And not blindly following the Cassel train.
And yeah the D did get embarassed some, but I agree with T29 ^
TheScootness - February 8, 2012
I'm with you there
Buck'O - February 8, 2012
a lot of that had to do with the offense though. rarely were we blown out right out of the gate, a lot of times it just broke down because the offense handed the ball over, or had consecutive 3 and outs
SDChief - February 8, 2012
Not this D
I’m not crowning them yet either but this is not the same that got embarrassed last year. This D will be + Berry + DJ gets better every year + another year of RAC + a full offseason + full season from Houston and Bailey and even Gordon + any FA or draft picks = easy top 10 possible even top 5.
KCMikeG - February 8, 2012
Odd how Crennels number is so high when he's the one who hired Daboll who's approval is so low.
GenericBrand - February 8, 2012
Pioli hired him
didn’t you KNOW THAT! ha
Brad-KC - February 8, 2012
You don't know that Pioli hired him though...
Tomahawk29 - February 8, 2012
Honestly this is just as much of a Crennel hire as it is Pioli.
Crennel has a history with him, from 2001-2004. Apparently they are friends, and have kept in touch since then. This hire isn’t all on Pioli, or Crennel, it’s likely a mutual agreement between both of them.
Tomahawk29 - February 8, 2012
I thought the CAPS and the ha would show my sarcasm
Yes, I think that was a Crennel hire.
Brad-KC - February 8, 2012
AP has been very serious lately.
Brsrkr - February 8, 2012
Troof.
+ Combativeness
severn58 - February 8, 2012
Yeah, I said it, so what?
You wants to fights abouts it?
Tomahawk29 - February 8, 2012
Keep it up sweetheart..
And you can be the first kid on your block with a Glasgow Smile, make all your friends jealous.
severn58 - February 8, 2012
Crennel hired Daboll just like Haley hired Weis
HIV 2 Elway - February 8, 2012
I see what you did there.
Falcon58 - February 8, 2012
exactly.
SDChief - February 8, 2012
Approved
I know he hasn’t done much in the past month, other than that OC thing (see HIVs comment above regarding that), but man I love RAC. Still excited he’s running the team.
Of course I’m also one of the people who approved of Haley until a month or two before he got fired, so my judge of character is not very good.
Spiderwomn69 - February 8, 2012
Serious question
How can we have any opinion on RAC as HC? Seriously. He’s done nothing short of hiring Daboll (and I don’t buy that it was even all him).
I voted Not Sure cause he’s done nothing yet.
SCKSChief - February 8, 2012
Tarkus - February 8, 2012
Thank you, Captain Semantics
SCKSChief - February 8, 2012
Semantics?
You asked how we can have an opinion because he hasn’t done anything. I was just pointing out stuff Joel listed that people can have opinions about. If you don’t think it’s enough to form an opinion, then that’s why he put in that third choice, I guess.
Tarkus - February 8, 2012
It came across as semantics because
I raised a legitimate concern and instead was greeted with a handful of coaching staff moves (none of which were terribly awe inspiring) when I listed the Daboll hire as basically the only thing done by RAC. To me, answering my question with one additional move (unless not retaining guys qualifies as a “move”) is really semantics. If it isn’t your definition of semantics, then it is definitely splitting hairs at the very least.
What else has he done besides hire two guys? There is no body of work as HC. That’s all I’m saying. There hasn’t been an off-season plan to evaluate. There hasn’t been a game plan solely engineered by his guys to pick apart. There hasn’t been a draft or FA in which he’s played a major role as HC. That is my point…not some pissing contest on whether I’m one coach short on the hiring process.
SCKSChief - February 8, 2012
This poll happens every month.
It’s not meant to be your “final answer.” It’s only how you feel as of right now. You’re not voting him into the Hall of Fame or even saying how you’ll feel next month. It’s about now. Again, if you don’t have an opinion at this time, that’s fine, but a lot of people do, for reasons already stated, both good and bad.
Tarkus - February 8, 2012
I agree
and the original post was my reason for voting “not sure”.
My apologies for the name calling.
SCKSChief - February 8, 2012
That's cool.
I’ve been called a lot worse than that. Today.
Tarkus - February 8, 2012
I don't know if AP can disagree without..........
the name calling
LadyChief - February 8, 2012
I disagree, you diva!
Tarkus - February 8, 2012
LOL!
LadyChief - February 8, 2012
What!?!?!?! How in the hell can you say this!!!
He WAS the HC the last three games … and WON two!!! We’re riding the RAC train to the SUPER Bowl next year, mofo! Ohhh … ye of little faith! (smh and sighing)
LocoLoboChico - February 8, 2012
And, SC, don't forget ...
PR/media relations drones, Owners, GM’s, coaches and players NEVAH evah lie in their press releases, nor to media reporters either. I’m totally, absolutely certain Pio*cough, cough*RAC has absolute control of his own city – cause press releases can not tell a lie!
LocoLoboChico - February 8, 2012
he beat the packers
you ungrateful turd.
shaytron - February 8, 2012
I agree with SCKS
Yeah he hired Daboll and McMahon, and I’m not real excited by either one yet. although I’m willing to give them a season to see before I start complaining. other than that SCKS is right Crenell hasn’t really done anything yet.
Hoochdawg - February 9, 2012
Oh yeah
he coached Haleys team the last 3 games, not gonna judge him on those. I want to see what he does with his team and his roster.
Hoochdawg - February 9, 2012
You know he was interm head coach last year for 3 games right?
Brad-KC - February 8, 2012
ugh, @ SCKSChief
Brad-KC - February 8, 2012
Interim, my friend
Lots of interim’s have good success and then do nothing as HC. Besides, the staff wasn’t “his”, the players weren’t “his”, the development of the team as a whole wasn’t “his”.
Ugh back atcha.
SCKSChief - February 8, 2012
You didn't think the defense had any development?
KCinIL - February 8, 2012 via mobile
I never said that
They did. And that development was his as DC, am I incorrect?
Bottom line is Interim HCs do stuff all the time that they can’t replicate as full-time HCs. I don’t dislike RAC. All I’m saying is that to have a poll after 2 hires and two or three guys being let go is a bit pre-mature.
SCKSChief - February 9, 2012
So the past does't count and we can't judge the future so maybe we should just judge what the poll is about.
You say all he has done is hire Daboll and say we can’t evaluate any of the things that haven’t happened yet? Really? Can’t judge the future? Shucks! Then you want to discredit Brad-KC by saying that the staff or players or the development of the team weren’t “his” is just foolish. He coached the D staff and D players who made the biggest developmental step over the offense and ST combined which lead to the development of the entire team. If anything the offense and ST slowed the development of his D by turning over the ball and not scoring or giving up field position, otherwise his D’s contribution to the team’s development would have been even more significant.
Here’s what RAC has done already. Beat the undefeated Packers, the only team to do that all season, and winning 2 out of 3 which except for 2 blocked FG’s and Boew’s dropped TD would have been 3 in a row and a division championship and a playoff game with a brand new QB with all of our injuries. He has hired a great ST coach and an OC who will fit his system to our players skill set vs. forcing his system on them. He speaks honestly and openly to the press and fans. Big Thumbs UP from me so far! Thanks RAC!
KCMikeG - February 8, 2012
Read above reply
I don’t feel that claiming “not sure” on basis of not enough evidence is “foolish”.
SCKSChief - February 9, 2012
On Daboll's hiring.
Tarkus - February 8, 2012
There we go
should help his approval rating
RichieGrogan - February 8, 2012
Sarcasm?
Tarkus - February 8, 2012
Company line
SCKSChief - February 8, 2012
IOW.
Your mind is already made up, and nothing anyone can say will change it.
Tarkus - February 8, 2012
same can be said about many in regards to todd haley and his time here and how it went down
goes both ways there.
its hard to believe that romeo had 100 percent say over his offensive coordinator….really hard to believe.
SDChief - February 8, 2012
No coach has 100% say.
But that doesn’t mean he wasn’t 100% RAC’s choice, which is how I interpreted his answer.
Tarkus - February 8, 2012
so it was "your decision 100 percent" to me.....is pretty point blank that it was his decision to bring in daboll
the reality is, its the gm hiring the staff.
but I can see it going either way now that you bring it up
SDChief - February 8, 2012
It's made up in the fact that I don't trust Pioli much more than the KGB-led Soviet state
I think he’s egomaniacal to the max. And a master micro-manager.
I personally like RAC. I think he’s a helluva coach and a good guy.
I just think that everyone is essentially given a talking points memo for their time with the press.
SCKSChief - February 8, 2012
You're calling RAC a punk, then.
Brsrkr - February 8, 2012
Where did THAT come from?
SCKSChief - February 9, 2012
So where do you get your "talking points"? You should get your money back because they suck!
KCMikeG - February 8, 2012
Welcome to AP, KCMike
Glad to see you’re 41 posts in and telling people their thoughts are idiotic and in fact “suck” because they refuse to follow blindly what is spoon fed to the media. You have every right to disagree and I expect that from people here. Please note, I never, in my disagreements told anyone their ideas suck. There is an art to disagreement, my friend.
SCKSChief - February 9, 2012
This guy hangs around AA saying nasty shit all the time
best to just ignore him.
big matt - February 11, 2012
SC ... now you're getting just plumb delusional about all this stuff.
But I’ll forgive your transgressions this one time, and offer you an enjoyable alternative for your own good. We’re going to send you to a holiday retreat in a very warm, sunny and beautiful part of the country. Trust me, you’ll grow to love your time spent there, and you’ll come back a NEW man! Ya dig?
LocoLoboChico - February 8, 2012
Thanks, Mr. Pioli...err...Loco
SCKSChief - February 9, 2012
Damn, my man ...
SC! I ashamed of you! Don’t you believe EVERYTHING your EMPLOYER tells you!?!? As if it were the infallible WORD of god!?!? You disloyal, traitorous, treacherous employee and Chiefs fan, you! ;=) Have a great night!
LocoLoboChico - February 8, 2012
I say "Good day" to you, sir!
SCKSChief - February 9, 2012
OT
Dan Le Batard has one of the worst shows ever.
Tarkus - February 8, 2012
and worst last names
Brad-KC - February 8, 2012
Approve
2-1 in 3 games. Players endorse him. RAC seems to speak to the media more and I like that. I like the potential in the Daboll hire. I look forward to see what we do in FA and the draft.
Pacific Chief - February 8, 2012
I'm still undecided
I realize that not all 22 starters can or will be superstars. I realize that not even the top few of our superstars will be better than what some other teams have to offer. But I cannot understand how the bottom of our roster is so much worse than the bottom of the other 31 teams. Finding starting-caliber offensive tackles and whatnot is not easy, but finding backup tight ends (I’m looking at you Jake O’Connell) and backup safeties (Sabby, Langford and Donald Washington) shouldn’t be THAT impossible. Now backup QB on the other hand…
kc_radrh8r - February 8, 2012
Well I'm retarded
I was so eager to post that I failed to read that this is for Romeo and not Pioli. Face palm!
kc_radrh8r - February 8, 2012
Either way,
I disagree. I think we have boat loads of talent that can compete with the best in the league on both sides of the ball. We only lack a QB
Brad-KC - February 8, 2012
Agreed with Brad-KC
We have a ton of talent: Sabby pisses me off the most. With his measurables he should be wrecking freaking shop. From some comments I have read, Sabby was getting better towards seasons end and Langford is a ST ace plus an extra DB. Washington is one year younger than Malcolm Jenkins and is a world class athlete. Depth at Oline, a banger at RB and more overall team depth. I love our talent.
Pacific Chief - February 8, 2012
The Chiefs have a Pro Bowl QB. Not many teams can say that.
Dagda - February 8, 2012
Cassel was good in10', not pro bowl good
the only reason he was invited was because some guys did’nt want to go,or were hurt, someone had to play in that god awful Pro Bullshit Game
tomachop - February 8, 2012
Depth at Online, a banger at RB and overall team depth and we are looking damn solid*
I meant to say :P
Pacific Chief - February 8, 2012
we may have a little talent
But when you go with a worthless oc. and start Cassell, how could anyone vote approve?
mu-chief-stl.cards fan - February 8, 2012
I have to admit
that Sabby did play great in the final game at Denver. I was at the game and he did an excellent job spying Tebow. It was without a doubt the most effective any one individual has been against Tebow this year.
kc_radrh8r - February 8, 2012
Agreed
Except that we already have our banger in McClain. Haley never understood how to use him. Under RAC he had more plays and just look at the 902 years he had when the Ravens used he right. He punishes people even more when he is carrying the ball than he does when he is the lead blocker.
KCMikeG - February 8, 2012
Backup TEs.....
There was a former Chiefs backup TE playing for the Ravens this year, and another for the Packers. Whose fault is it that they didn’t make it here?
Brsrkr - February 8, 2012
That's a question I really would like to know
I’m betting that it is Pioli more so than the head coach who brings players in, but I honestly have no idea who has more power in deciding who stays. Does the coach (in this case Haley with Jake O’Connell vs. Tom Crabtree) get to pick his 53, does the GM say who stays and goes and forces the coach to have to go with those guys, or is it a 50-50 split? I don’t know.
kc_radrh8r - February 8, 2012
Also
On espn nfl 32 Mangini says he guarntees Cassell will start and thats the reason they hired Daboll, for Cassell. I believe it, wasn’t Daboll ,Mangini’s offensive coordinator?
mu-chief-stl.cards fan - February 8, 2012
Well
if Mangini says it, then it has to be truebadassz1987 - February 8, 2012
A guarantee, no less.
Tarkus - February 8, 2012
Thats what he said.
mu-chief-stl.cards fan - February 8, 2012
I'm not sure until I see what happens at quarterback.
As long as there is some kind of change, I would be happy. Right or wrong. And I’m not sure about the OC hire yet. If Cassel starts and plays like crap, and isn’t replaced, then these two coaches along with Pioli should be fired before the year is out. Hopefully, the least they will do is bring in Orton.
